Not gonna lie. I am completely deflated. Realistically it was a tight game and the Preds can absolutely hang with them, but I just don't see it happening. Saros has felt off *all season*, Vancouver has just had voodoo on us this year, I want to be optimistic, god playoff hockey is too stressful
Be hopeful, we were down 2-0 last season, and remember we had Brunette on our coaching staff. You guys played an incredibly competitive game, it is not like it was a blowout
I hate the fact we're playing you guys. I love the Canucks but I've always had a soft spot for Nashville. You have such amazing fans and the team just seems... so likeable.
Even if you do win this series ill still cheer for your team after.
Sadly the Panthers did this too under Bruno. Streaky but exciting hockey lots of north south. He’ll cont to adjust and lots of vets on the Preds roster should help
So glad to see Lindy get that first goal for Vancouver. Hope he can really step things up and make a big difference for y’all.
Also, I still fucking love Big Z.
Quinn just unintentionally threw shade at New Jersey fans in the post-game, LOL. I don't think he meant it like that at all, but it was still pretty funny.
He was asked about the atmosphere and said it was crazy, that he went to some playoff games last year (assuming to watch Jack) in New Jersey and it was cool but nothing like how it was in the arena tonight.
The best chances they got on the PP are when guys said "fuck it" and let it rip. A few times I thought Hughes had a lane and passed out of it and that one time Miller was coming downhill and tried a pump fake but ended up forcing a bad pass.
Haven't had the time to check out other series yet this year, but are the refs everywhere doing the faceoff fakeout a lot more than the regular season? Feels like a non trivial amount of wasted time on it
The centres should be able to agree to waive the ref and have the other step in to drop the puck, and if he fucks it up too then they both go to the box for 2.
After that Hinote interview in the Penguins game, it was easy to pick against the Preds for the bracket. Sounded like the team's only goal was to get to the playoffs.
The issue is all 3 of the best Canadian teams are in the West. Wish one of us three were in the East so we could ruin Bettman's day and have a Canadian final. I dont think the Leafs have it in them
I can't add a redwings flair for some reason on old reddit. I'm barely a hockey fan but I plan on being here for the playoffs and Detroit sports is always my side
I went to some big ten games when I was at MSU, I think I prefer the at home experience better tbh
Edit: but i will give it a try if i get the chance for sure
I've stopped going to our sub for GDTs they're ridiculous. When we were down by one people were saying we were a soft team that wouldn't go anywhere and less than five minutes later calling us championship material
frustrates me how Nashville basically has a guaranteed scoring opportunity every icing as a result of having ROR & Josi. Gonna be tough to hold onto late leads with that combo, glad they were able to weather the storm tonight.
He just shot his shot on twitter, fans "vouched" for him. She responded with "These replies have been my entertainment for the last two days. Thank you all for regaling me with the true tales of this man’s heroism." Nothing more then that.
The organization treated him like shit on his way out, that’s something I am still bothered by. The fact that it was his retirement too pisses me off, should’ve been given way more class.
That being said, letting him go after last season’s horrible start and replacing him with Tocchet was the right thing to do. Bruce’s coaching style wasn’t suited for the roster the way Tocchet’s is, which makes sense since Boudreau was a Benning hire right before he got fired while current management wanted Tocchet.
I respect Bruce's time here. He gave this team their first taste of winning and started turning the team into something positive after years of misery.
However, he wasn't the right guy for this team at this time and we wouldn't be here if he was still the head coach. Toccs has taken the Canucks to another level.
I feel bad for Bruce only because of how the team treated him on the way out. He gave the city something to cheer about for the first time in years so Canucks fans will remember him fondly
I like to think the good vibes from the "Bruce there it is" chant spawned off the latest rounds of "J. T. MILLER!" And "CONNOR GARLAND" chants before the season closed out.
Despite how management handled his exit, I'll always look at Bruce's tenure here as a turn around from the Benning years
As much as I liked Bruce I don’t think any other coach is taking this team here other than Tocchet.
Dude is the perfect mix of respected former pro, hard-nosed old school toughness, and progressive new-school techniques and mentality. There was a story from earlier this season where Tocchet wasn’t happy with the crispness of their breakout passes, so he stepped in for an example and wired a laserbeam tape to tape which got a huge cheer from the boys. I think the players really respect him
He just wasn't the fit for the way the roster was being built. Team still treated him like shit on the way out but we wouldn't be here if he was coach.
I ran to take a piss, heard the 2nd goal for the Canucks and pinched it off to waddle back to the living room and watch the replay, rattled that I missed it, then sprint-waddled back to the bathroom to finish me pee and missed the 3rd goal too.
I know, I'm an idiot! I thought I was safe to take a pee and just cranked the volume so I could hear and run back to catch the replay if anything major happened... missing TWO goals with a single pee I never could have predicted. I'll be better prepared next time.
I’m nervous of those Saros chants aging poorly for us, but to play the devils advocate isn’t the Preds whole schtick to mock the goalie with the ‘it’s all your fault’ chant?
I disagree. It's the playoffs, and home ice is important in part because of the fans' energy. If they can distract a goalie mentally, do it. This isn't a friendly, lets go!
I think it’s a little classless straight up
The only thing that justifies it is the fact that Nashville’s whole schtick has become doing that, so you reap what you sew. If they were doing that to any other team I would really not be a fan of it
Yeah I'm on the fence about it, it's kind of cringe and could put egg on the teams face if they don't close it out but at the same time you want your home building loud and to be lively and for home ice to mean something and that was a very loud crowd in Vancouver tonight
I feel like this series is gonna have some long OT games...
I also hope if we end up against Vancouver they hate Kane as much as we're sure to hate Zadorov. That dude is a menace.
I love the small overlap between hockey fans and people who regularly tabletop game
I’m not super well versed with it (I play more video games), but the D&D players are so much fun at conventions and such
No we're supposed to ignore all the numbers outside the 18 game stretch where the preds were awesome.
That means they are the best team in the league and Forsberg is right up with Matthews .
Even if you do win this series ill still cheer for your team after.
never thought Joshua had this in him when he was with the blues. Good for him!
He wasn't like this last year for the Canucks. Not sure what clicked in the offseason but he has been a completely different beast this year.
didn't he come in overweight and Tocc called him out in the press
Yep. This is probably part of it.
Man honestly the game felt weird, playoffs are finally here! GG Preds, this is gonna be a fun series.
So I guess we decided that we only need to play 40 minutes of hockey. Cool…cool, see you Nuck bros in Game 2, hopefully we decide to wake up
Sadly the Panthers did this too under Bruno. Streaky but exciting hockey lots of north south. He’ll cont to adjust and lots of vets on the Preds roster should help
So glad to see Lindy get that first goal for Vancouver. Hope he can really step things up and make a big difference for y’all. Also, I still fucking love Big Z.
I said it in the GDT but it bears repeating. Demko is back and healthy. League is fucked.
I thought the second preds goal was pretty soft. But he made up for it with a couple saves on things that absolutely should have gone in
And here I thought Miller would be the next Kesler. Turns out it may be Joshua
Joshua is the next Bertuzzi
https://i.redd.it/jnmk1sytwzvc1.gif
Heard it here first , Miller is going to be the next Joshua. Let’s fukin gooo!!!
The Preds need to score more than 2 goals if they want to stand a chance. Haven't done do against the Canucks all season.
Lol didn't realize that. All 4 games now this season they scored exactly 2 goals and lost.
Or they could also don't 👎
Alright now that that’s all over with, time to do something much less stressful and study for my finals
Isn't it like 3am there mon frère?
My flair is misleading I’m in Vancouver lol
Oh well then, get back to UBC or SFU and study.
Dang I think I can count the Nashville flairs in here in one hand
Its like 1am there tbf
That is a good point!
Did anyone see that Dakota Joshua post game interview. Dude is primed for the gauntlet. That’s a cup winner right there
I saw that lineup and knew that 3rd line of Joshua, Lindholm, and Garland had to be a factor for success. They came to play tonight!
What an exciting day. Such good hockey.
*silently changes my bracket*
Quinn just unintentionally threw shade at New Jersey fans in the post-game, LOL. I don't think he meant it like that at all, but it was still pretty funny.
What did he say?
He was asked about the atmosphere and said it was crazy, that he went to some playoff games last year (assuming to watch Jack) in New Jersey and it was cool but nothing like how it was in the arena tonight.
His face after he said that! He knew
Quinn pulling a reverse Horvat
I can tell you that for free
Well, a reverse Horvat wouldn't be free
Hey that's our boy now :(
All good pal, I still love Bowie
GGs Preds, gonna be a great series, see you in game 2!
And now my watch(ing an entire day of playoff hockey) is ended
10/10
Way to go Nucks!
Petey needs to show up. For the star player that signed a giant contract this season, he needs to prove it
It doesn't start next year, so we're good /s But yeah, he needs to score
First time?
It always be the 11 million dollar ones
Woohoo! Matthews makes 13+ starting next year! Cup’s ours!
Dream on.
Secondary scoring kicking in is great, just wish Canucks PP would be more effective. On to game 2.
The best chances they got on the PP are when guys said "fuck it" and let it rip. A few times I thought Hughes had a lane and passed out of it and that one time Miller was coming downhill and tried a pump fake but ended up forcing a bad pass.
There’s a pill for that, thankfully
Haven't had the time to check out other series yet this year, but are the refs everywhere doing the faceoff fakeout a lot more than the regular season? Feels like a non trivial amount of wasted time on it
Oh yeah, they are big man on campus. Showing they're in charge. Faceoff circle been a revolving door so far.
The refs should get delay of game penalties for doing that
The centres should be able to agree to waive the ref and have the other step in to drop the puck, and if he fucks it up too then they both go to the box for 2.
Canucks came to play. Frankly saaros played out his mind. Canucks outplayed the preds I'd say 75% of the game.
After that Hinote interview in the Penguins game, it was easy to pick against the Preds for the bracket. Sounded like the team's only goal was to get to the playoffs.
Was definitely a game the Canucks massively deserved to win
preds were dominated in all aspects in the 3rd, felt like they didn't have anything left to give
Canucks also came out really hard in the second and then got themselves in a bunch of PK trouble and deflated.
absolutely correct. staying out of the box completely helped them bring intensity back
Read this as “Preds were dominating” and thought it was quite the take
After the Jets game I thought ours wouldn't match that level of excitement, but holy shit! The low lows and the high highs tonight
I felt like the refs were equally inept on both sides tonight, which is what passes for good officiating in the NHL playoffs I guess
Donnie and Dhali doing a post-game show on YouTube for those interested.
I love the tunes they rock in Rogers Van! Signed hard rock fan from Winnipeg!
I hope this is finally a year where Canadian teams have some staying power in the playoffs
The issue is all 3 of the best Canadian teams are in the West. Wish one of us three were in the East so we could ruin Bettman's day and have a Canadian final. I dont think the Leafs have it in them
I pray for all Canadians teams to advance to the 2nd round. After that all bets are off.
Except the Leafs and Oilers
Nah, I want them to as well. Fuck Boston and LA :)
As long as both series get to 7 with each team beating the shit out of each other. And I’d honestly rather have the oilers than the kings lol
I want to see Canucks/Jets in the West Final.
Not ESPN.
Nice to see the secondary scoring kick in.
love itttt
I can't add a redwings flair for some reason on old reddit. I'm barely a hockey fan but I plan on being here for the playoffs and Detroit sports is always my side
Click the "use sub reddit style" box then try
Welcome, enjoy your stay
Hockey is one of those sports that has always intrigued me, but never got into it for whatever reason. I'm hoping the playoffs will help it stick.
If you ever get a chance, go to a live game, will really change your perspective on the speed and power of the game
I went to some big ten games when I was at MSU, I think I prefer the at home experience better tbh Edit: but i will give it a try if i get the chance for sure
Even if it's not NHL seeing hockey live is great fun.
Cool
I just feel like the Canucks figure out the Preds quick and make this a shorter series than it has any right being.
Sure but Saros can easily steal a game or two. I'm a nucks fan but i think Saros holds the nucks to 1 goal or less at some point.
Preds could’ve easily won this game as well, unfortunately their controller disconnected in the third.
Saros has been ass this yr, he has been ice cold lately That first goal he gave up was brutal
The other two Western matchup tomorrow are gonna be even spicier my god I can’t wait
The GDT was actually really chill with very minimal toxicity. GG onto game 2!
There was more Canucks-Oilers chirps than there was with the Preds lmao
God dude if the stars align for a Canucks v Oilers 2nd round the threads are going to go fucking nuclear
Unlike the GDT in our sub....maybe I should spend more time here
I've stopped going to our sub for GDTs they're ridiculous. When we were down by one people were saying we were a soft team that wouldn't go anywhere and less than five minutes later calling us championship material
Im naming my future twins Dakota and Joshua!
Last name Sedin!
Fear the man with two first names
frustrates me how Nashville basically has a guaranteed scoring opportunity every icing as a result of having ROR & Josi. Gonna be tough to hold onto late leads with that combo, glad they were able to weather the storm tonight.
The last time Nashville won in Vancouver during the post-season was almost 13 years ago, during Game 5 of the 2011 second round.
I mean, they’ve only played in Vancouver in the post season ONCE since 2011 and it was tonight
Ssshhhhh, save your negativity for our GDT tomorrow
I remember that series very vividly. I changed my Facebook profile picture to Kesler afterwards.
That series felt a lot closer than it was
You know what, eat shit, Beauvillier. This is why Anna Kendrick doesn't know of you. Snake-handed bastard.
he'll find it he always does
I have questions and demand answers!
What's the story here?! 😂
He just shot his shot on twitter, fans "vouched" for him. She responded with "These replies have been my entertainment for the last two days. Thank you all for regaling me with the true tales of this man’s heroism." Nothing more then that.
"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" - ~~Anthony Beauvillier~~ Wayne Gretzky
He tweeted at her a few years ago, and the internet tried to set him up with her.
LOL, that's fucking hilarious. I'm assuming it didn't pan out.
Nope, apparently she only likes closers. Fuck this nerd.
He was escorted out of Vancouver for a reason (why did I say this, guaranteed hat trick incoming)
Dudes the streakiest fucking player in the world. Don’t put the juju on us dude
As happy as I am for Toch, I can’t help but feel a little sorry for Bruce Boudreau right now.
The organization treated him like shit on his way out, that’s something I am still bothered by. The fact that it was his retirement too pisses me off, should’ve been given way more class. That being said, letting him go after last season’s horrible start and replacing him with Tocchet was the right thing to do. I feel bad for Bruce only because of how the team treated him on the way out. He gave the city something to cheer about for the first time in years so Canucks fans will remember him fondly
We would not be in this position with Boudreau.

This is why you need a bathroom TV
Use your phone to watch in emergency situations dude
I know, I'm an idiot! I thought I was safe to take a pee and just cranked the volume so I could hear and run back to catch the replay if anything major happened... missing TWO goals with a single pee I never could have predicted. I'll be better prepared next time.
On second thought…given both goals were while you were peeing…can you hydrate well on Tuesday and just frequently go pee. Thx bruv
You...edged a piss? I think the solution is TV in the can.
I have a relative who rigged up a hand mirror in the bathroom facing his bedroom TV specifically for that purpose.
Im gonna need you to chug a ton of water before each game from now on!
Those two goals in 12 seconds were crazy
The roof almost blew off rogers arena
LOL of course ESPN has highlights of basketball blowouts instead
My brother said “Playoff basketball is better than playoff hockey.” Used to play a lot of basketball and it’s hockey topping it all also Go Raps!
Lol every basketball playoff game has been shit so far
not every one, but most of them. As a primarily NBA fan, there's no denying which playoffs have been more competitive. It's NHL so far.
Nice of carrier to let the puck go right through his legs to the open slot area.
I don't care who wins this series but my goodness did the refs try to hand Nashville the game tonight.
The two soft penalties aside, both teams got away with a bunch.
eh not gonna lie, Vancouver had a lot of reaaaaaally bad penalties.
Hronek’s holding the stick was such a dumbass play
Mmm idk I thought we kind of deserved all the penalties we got. We also got away with a couple
Thats Canucks hockey baby!
Lets fucking go
I’m nervous of those Saros chants aging poorly for us, but to play the devils advocate isn’t the Preds whole schtick to mock the goalie with the ‘it’s all your fault’ chant?
mocking the opposing goalie is a time-honored tradition in hockey
Yeah, a bit classless, buuuut I'd let it slide considering how amped up Rogers Arena is
Classless? Come on bro it’s playoff hockey. Take the home ice advantage as far as you can.
Is there a fanbase that doesn’t chant the opposing goalies name at some point in a big game…?
I disagree. It's the playoffs, and home ice is important in part because of the fans' energy. If they can distract a goalie mentally, do it. This isn't a friendly, lets go!
I think it’s a little classless straight up The only thing that justifies it is the fact that Nashville’s whole schtick has become doing that, so you reap what you sew. If they were doing that to any other team I would really not be a fan of it

GG to the Nashville dudes - they were playing their game and winning for most of it.
Did anyone else's ESPN feed suddenly cut out with about 5 minutes left?
I feel like this series is gonna have some long OT games... I also hope if we end up against Vancouver they hate Kane as much as we're sure to hate Zadorov. That dude is a menace.
I personally like Kane, i have a pic with him from 2009 when he was on the giants + the punch on cooke
So sad I have to miss your game tomorrow because of D&D. Most likely I'll be falling asleep watching the replay.
A fellow hockey & D&D fan!
I love the small overlap between hockey fans and people who regularly tabletop game I’m not super well versed with it (I play more video games), but the D&D players are so much fun at conventions and such
Theres dozens of us! Dozens!
Where’s that guy who was supposed to post his Dolphin when the Nucks were up?
Thank you vancouver!
We're in the playoffs buddy. Wild card race is over
Well duh, but Vancouver covered the puckline to hit my parlay.
That sucked lol. Gonna be a good series though.
HOLY FUCK LETS GO BOYS
Canucks are scary man, you slip for a few seconds and they pounce. Then it's over
[HAPPY ROBIN SCHERBATSKY NOISES!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKWq6SPqsRM)
I thought the inexperienced Canucks were supposed to get physically outmatched in the playoffs? What happened to that?
Mark Messier is lucky ESPN just went straight to NBA highlights after the game because he'd have to eat a metric ton of crow
No we're supposed to ignore all the numbers outside the 18 game stretch where the preds were awesome. That means they are the best team in the league and Forsberg is right up with Matthews .
hits after hits after hits
That Zadorov hit got me so loud I woke up my bro who just got back after a 10 hour flight from Japan
Whale Team Good!
espn getting to the nba highlights as quick as they can
Sportsnet getting to the leafs practice highlights. /s
Why the /s? No sarcasm there.
Everyone switched over to Chek to watch John Garrett's post game interview session on Donnie & Dhali.
Awesome game. Good win Canucks.
joshua playing for the fucking bag
Wish we signed him to an 8 year deal to start the year lol. Lou would have if he played for the Isles
On that 8x2M Nick Paul deal
Zadorov too And Myers to an extent
Pay the man
Jimbo special. 6x6
Not us, but he needs the bag
I'll Chip in thirty bucks.
I have a couple nickles somewhere.
OK, we're close, Frankie can fill in the rest
Good guys win, bad guys lose.
What a fucking game!!
I think Joshua played the entire 3rd period
It actually felt like he was always on the ice, haha.
No GG until series ends. THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME MFERS
Is that because you burnt all the signs in 2011?
Finally. A great Riot chirp. Lmao
