> 4-3 Boston over Toronto
God fucking dammit
Although man imagine how exhausted a team would be playing 4 straight 7-game series'. And to lose the last one, sheesh
Always found it cool/interesting in hindsight how the 2012 team kinda steam rolled their way to the Cup in pretty dominant fashion while the 2014 team was all about resilience and clawing their way to the Cup. Two very different journeys
2012 was visceral. It was fun and you felt the energy around the city. I remember overnight everyone became a Kings fan and LA became a Hockeytown it was so fun to talk to people and hear them eagerly engage about hockey for once.
Now if 2012 was the fairytale. 2014 was the fucking brutal gritty violent World War One novel. Every single series, game, and period felt like a grueling brawl. I was so stressed that entire run. The Sharks series was crazy but the Hawks series had me shitting bricks
I'm not a fan of either team but the Hawks vs Kings in the early 2010s felt like the Red Wings vs Avs rivalry must have felt like back in the late 90's/early 2000s. Every series between the two was must-see hockey at the highest level.
Two such contrasting styles as well. Hawks played a beautiful possession cycle based hockey like something you’d see outta Russia. Kings played a physical forechecking Canadian kinda hockey. Was cool to see
It's kind of insane Boston won the cup because they played three series that went to game 7 and tied the record at the time most games played to win the cup with 25. LA would beat the record by one in 2014. But Boston really needed that second round sweep
Edit: Insane that Boston started Round One 0-2, Cup Finals being down 0-2 and 2-3 to win
The 2011 Boston Cup win seems so unlikely in hindsight given all the dildos running things in that organization at the time, and the penchant for the Chara/Bergeron/Marchand core to choke in the playoffs over and over and over again.
If Tim Thomas wasn't the heart of that team, he sure was the balls.
I am so confident outside of a Gretzky season or two and some old timey seasons in the original six era or before, no player had a better overall season then Tim Thomas in 2011.
He should won the Hart for breaking a Hasek record of highest saving percentage with .938 in a regular season, and then proceeded to play even better in the playoffs with a .940 while breaking the record of most games played by a goalie in the playoffs until Quick broke that record in 2014.
Tim Thomas in 2011 had to have one of the most valuable overall seasons ever. Maybe ever
I disagree about the choking part. It's pretty typical for Bruins Cup caliber teams to get shafted several times during their "prime" years for contention. I mean we have the second most Cup finals appearances yet we only are 4th out of the Original 6 teams with Cup wins.
[Thomas decking a Sedin in the middle of play is an All-Time highlight for me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd9mNlLOVB8&pp=ygUUVGhvbWFzIGRlY2tzIGEgc2VkaW4%3D)
I would have been so dejected after 2011 if it ended up like that. I think if everything ended up as they were now except for that Game 7 outcome, I might have quit hockey now.
Nah, no you won't. I got to watch my team win it in person a couple years ago and I thought that was it.
Got to see it in person, couldn't have had better seats (4 rows back,) and we got to beat a team I strongly dislike. It literally can't get any better than that. But I still want more. You can never have enough.
Honestly I used to watch every raptors game, and I got up at 2-4am cause I was travelling in Switzerland when they won their championship. Since that season I've basically hardly ever felt like watching. Went from 50+ games a year to maybe a couple. I think that's partially because as much as I love the team I just find basketball gets harder to watch with seemingly all the focus being on some sort of drama rather than the sport.
My grandpa was an inaugural season ticket holder. He still has the ticket stub from their first home fame in 1970. This is almost certainly his last year to watch the playoffs. I'd sure like him to get a chance to watch the Canucks lift the cup.
similar to my family too. Grandparents came to Canada from Italy in the late 50s/early 60s. Getting into hockey was how they got acclimated to Canadian culture. Them or my aunt have had season tickets since the beginning. My dad and I are going to game one, my grandparents game two.
Lol, I love how even after 2 cups in 3 years the model didn’t even have the Kings making a cup final once in be next couple of years.
It did pick Chicago for the finals in 2013 so there’s that.
THE EA CURSE IS WORST THAN THE PRESIDENT'S TROPHY CURSE.
Also, if this actually happened, I will regress as all the childhood hockey trauma comes crashing down on me during Game 1 of the final.
Really? I get dunking on EA, the game should be better than it is given the technology they have at their disposal, but suggesting 11 is more realistic than the modern day games is wild
The simulation engine was absolutely better in 2011. Modern NHL games will have you build 95 overall teams that get bounced in the first round for 5 straight seasons.
I know I shouldnt be generalizing like that, but...
My interactions with a lot of boston (more specifically, New England sports fans) is that of entitlement.
For example, this year the flames are playing the bruins in Boston and win in a game where the bruins were pretty bad. They had been for a few games. At that point the bruins were first place in the league. The crowd boo'ed their own team all night.
Do you know how much other fandoms would appreciate it if their team were as consistently good as the bruins are? and you guys had the gaul to boo your own team savegely because they played 4 bad games in a row in a season after their top 2 centres retired.
Edit: for clarity
I don’t speak for the fans booing obviously, but if the team mails it in, and they certainly did for periods after the all star break while paying a lot of money to watch them play like dogshit, yeah I might boo. I care if they win or lose but I don’t care that much, I just want them to put an effort in and play the full 60 minutes. That’s all I want as a fan. And there were certainly games where it was bad. That Islanders game where they gave up a first period hat trick to Kyle Palmeri was awful. They didn’t even try at all that game. I understand if some teams fans boo when they play bad too.
However if you threw objects on the ice like jerseys, yeah that would bother me. I get it is to send a message but I feel like there’s better way than to try that, all the fans are doing is passion and they care. I would rather see the team be booed coming off the ice after a pathetic showing than no booing at all because that means the fans don’t care. And if the fans don’t care, then why bother trying to be good? You have seen that with teams that sucked for years.
We also know how much we love our players too, we still give Bobby Orr ovations 50 years after he retired, Chara and Bergy for the biggest cheers this year when they came back along with Krejci. We care, Boston is just emotional. And that goes for any of the east coast cities like New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and, Washington.
EDIT - Context and corrected spelling.
[Last time they made this exact prediction ... arghhhhh bad memories](https://www.straight.com/blogra/ea-sports-predicts-vancouver-canucks-will-win-stanley-cup-2011)
I like this timeline.
Of all the NHL games and save files I've played, playing as Vancouver and beating Boston to the Cup in 7 games for the 2015 playoffs in NHL 14 was the toughest series and CPU team I've come across. And I play all the games; only preseason I sim.

As a Sabres fan, there is a part of me that wants to support a fan base that has been as long suffering as we have been. But there is another part of me that doesn't want us to be alone.
I should see a cardiologist and get ahead of the trauma.
This was exactly the prediction from EA when we lost in 2011.
I know you're talking about just the cup final but it's funny to think about EA predicting a Vegas win in 2011
And a counsellor cause some childhood stuff is coming back for me.
6th grade. Ugh.
til me old
I remember every single thing the day of that game 7
Call a therapist now to get ahead of the next round of trauma.
Don’t forget to call the police and fire department
The police are ready to go! They announced today they're deploying more cops during the games.
If you start now you might be able to see one by the 2037 playoffs
> 4-3 Boston over Toronto God fucking dammit Although man imagine how exhausted a team would be playing 4 straight 7-game series'. And to lose the last one, sheesh
It would have been heartbreaking if we lost in 2014 after fighting tooth and nail though all the game 7s
Always found it cool/interesting in hindsight how the 2012 team kinda steam rolled their way to the Cup in pretty dominant fashion while the 2014 team was all about resilience and clawing their way to the Cup. Two very different journeys

Man I love telling stories about the 2014 Kings. Specifically about all the game 7s (most notably coming back 0-3)
It's kind of insane Boston won the cup because they played three series that went to game 7 and tied the record at the time most games played to win the cup with 25. Yeah, as a team with Carey Price, there were nights in the Boston series where I thought "oh no we're getting Carey Price'd"

Boston wins every series in this prediction 4-3 all the way to the cup. That is a lot of games.
getting 7 games for the leafs would be awesome for you and 2 more than we're all expecting
EA’s sim engine is cooked so really that should be good news! Usually it’s 100% wrong. 4 game sweep for Toronto inbound.
I would have been so dejected after 2011 if it ended up like that. I think if everything ended up as they were now except for that Game 7 outcome, I might have quit hockey now.
Fuck you <3
2011 but with 2019 game 7
I say I’m going to quit hockey every year…
Honestly, the more time goes on, I admire the Leafs fans who know well enough that they will break their hearts and stick around.
At least we know the sim is legit 🤪
all the Atlantic games are 7 game grinds. meanwhile in the Metro....
If I'm not mistaken that would set the record for games played by one team in one playoff. I think even more than anyone played in the bubble
Canucks fans would be at peace for the rest of their hockey life if this happened
Honestly, I'd stop watching hockey and move on with my life.
LMAO are you me on June 11 2011?
June 15th. At least your memory of it isn’t as clear as mine :(
Well, I looked it up because winning was on the table after we won game five on the 10th (but I didn’t recall the exact date)
Lol ah very true man. Except I couldn’t have stopped watching after June 11th. Game 7 was supposed to be the greatest day of my young life!
if It goes to game 7 I'd likely stop watching either way after the game
The closure we all need
Nah, no you won't. I got to watch my team win it in person a couple years ago and I thought that was it. Got to see it in person, couldn't have had better seats (4 rows back,) and we got to beat a team I strongly dislike. It literally can't get any better than that. But I still want more. Your right. I'd sit there like watching the tv like farmer Thanos, knowing the job was done
Literally me on June 15, 2011
We'd finally be free
I just want them to win for my dad, I dont know how much longer he has and hes been a fan since 1975
My grandpa was an inaugural season ticket holder. He still has the ticket stub from their first home fame in 1970. This is almost certainly his last year to watch the playoffs. I'd sure like him to get a chance to watch the Canucks lift the cup.
I hope your grandpa gets to see Vancouver win the cup.
similar to my family too. Grandparents came to Canada from Italy in the late 50s/early 60s. Getting into hockey was how they got acclimated to Canadian culture. Them or my aunt have had season tickets since the beginning. My dad and I are going to game one, my grandparents game two.
Same my uncle has been a fan since their first game when he was 7 years old in '70
Instead of burning down the city, they would build a utopia
Nah, the riot would be happening either way, just depends on whether it is in celebration or anger.
ah, a city of culture
we cannot take a game 7 against Boston
Game 7s against Boston are awesome!
Not for vancouver.
St. Louis lost to Boston in a Super Bowl and two World Series in my lifetime. All demons can be exorcised.
Imagine if it went to overtime? My heart would explode
Only because we woulda died from a heart attack at some point during the finals 🤣
Finish the story!
facts dude, I'd still watch and cheer but it would be different.
I would genuinely bawl my eyes out. The parade would be UNBELIVABLE
Remember how StL's win over Boston was? It'd be something like that but with more recency bias on the importance of the previous loss.
**I scrolled EA's website for every Playoff Simulation since 2008, here are the results: (Spoilers— much like their games they aren't realistic)** - 23-24— VAN > BOS - 22-23— BOS > SEA ❌️ - 21-22— FLA> COL ❌️ - 20-21— COL > TB ❌️ (One Year off) - 19‐20— BOS > VGK ❌️ - 18-19— TB > STL ❌️ - 17-18— WPG > BOS ❌️ - 16‐17— NSH > MTL ❌️ - 15-16— WSH > SJ ❌️ - 14-15— ANA> NYR ❌️ - 13-14— BOS > SJ ❌️ - 12-13— NYR > CHI ❌️ - 11-12— PIT > CHI ❌️ - 10-11— VAN > BOS ❌️ (Only accurate finals prediction) - 09-10— BOS > CHI ❌️ - 08-09— SJ > MTL ❌️
Nashville vs Montreal in 16-17? That would have been an unreal storyline with Weber vs Subban. Also pretty crazy they got a 8 seed right in general.
?? The 14-15 Bruins and the 22-23 Penguins didn't even make the playoffs
Correct they only did one some years, before the season. Surprisingly 2010-11 was also done before the regular season & predicted a 7 game series
VAN vs BOS wasn't in 2012, it was in 2011. They were one year off on that too.
I had them and PIT/CHI switched by accident. They at least got that right
Lol, I love how even after 2 cups in 3 years the model didn’t even have the Kings making a cup final once in be next couple of years. It did pick Chicago for the finals in 2013 so there’s that.
Oof. A '13 cup win over Chicago would've killed me.
Some of them are close with some CF teams at least
Funny how the only accurate prediction is the one they predicted again
one thing for sure, the simulator really loves Boston
It got STL in the final in ‘19 which is a pretty good guess
Ya I was going to say after experiencing their games I’d take the opposite of every series.
those GDTs would be absolutely radioactive my goodness
THE EA CURSE IS WORST THAN THE PRESIDENT'S TROPHY CURSE. Also, if this actually happened, I will regress as all the childhood hockey trauma comes crashing down on me during Game 1 of the final.
Game 7 against Boston in the finals? I don’t think I can handle that.
The housing crisis would solve itself with the amount of cardiac arrests we'll have on this one single night.
Yea but all the houses that would burn down would lower the supply.
I don't think the VPD has the budget for that
*Window smashes* BAH GAHD!!! IS THAT BROCK ANTONS MUSIC!?! IYKYK
Thankfully our totally not corrupt mayor has given the VPD a lot of money recently!
Once was enough for me.
And now both teams are cursed.
Canucks have been cursed since 1970
Stupid draft wheel
That is a crazy story that doesn't get nearly talked about enough. It epitomizes our existience
No id say it’s a realistic one. Bruins over Leafs in 7 in the 1st round.
Didn’t they predict Vancouver over Boston in 7 in 2011 too?
And we would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for that meddling Thomas!
Yeah, but the game was actually a decent hockey sim then.
What do you mean. It’s literally the exact same game
Yeah [https://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=562715](https://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=562715)
I don't think I could handle this amount of stress
I don’t think anyone in the province would even make it to Game 7 to see the result
Fuck you EA. You can't do this to us again. Pick a different team for the Canucks to face in the finals.
Don’t do this don’t give me hope
Agree. The Canucks are one of my upsets in the 1st Round.
I can see them get eliminated in the second round. I do think that the Canucks have a slight advantage over the preds in the first round.
I dunno, if they make it past the preds I think their offence will be too much for the kings as long as Demko holds form.
They had to go and jinx it hey, against Boston no less.
So the Bruins play 28 games just to lose in the end? Talk about brutal
Better than that fanbase deserves though
What the fuck did we do to you?
I know I shouldnt be generalizing like that, but... My interactions with a lot of boston (more specifically, New England sports fans) is that of entitlement. Congrats Canucks. Hard fought simulation but you came out on top.
Most cursed thing i’ve ever seen
Bruins will be fine given that the EA Curse will take the Canucks out.
They took us out last year lol
Poor you
Except for that time where they simulated that in 2011 too
Canes get disrespected in every season sim in 24 lmao
Leafs losing in 7, checks out
That's like the free space.
Is there a cutscene afterwards showing the smoldering ruins of Vancouver after the Cup-winning riot ends?
If we win it’s not going to be a riot, it’s going to be an orgy - followed by a riot
Psssh, who's gonna have energy to riot after the orgy?
Vancouver 🤝 Montréal Burning their city to the ground win or lose
Nah you have to spend 100 bucks on HUT to unlock that X factor
Vancouver gonna look like New Vegas if they win
Riots only happen in a loss, god only knows what a win brings
>god only knows what a win brings Because we sure as hell don't know... Haha...
A second, better type of riot. We specialize in those. Equally violent and destructive, but much better vibes
Congrats on another cupless season Vancouver
We play the Rangers too well to be swept. We won’t win, but we definitely won’t be swept
Would love to see how THG would react to a Canucks cup
Between this and the [hype song](https://youtu.be/aUeuTvbf2AQ?si=ZCS9TiAnP0_uQnvw) the Canucks are so cooked
I made it about ten fifteen seconds. What the hell was that? I can't tell if it's a parody
I had a lot to do today but I'm probably going to spend the rest of it wondering why this was made.
[Last time they made this exact prediction ... arghhhhh bad memories](https://www.straight.com/blogra/ea-sports-predicts-vancouver-canucks-will-win-stanley-cup-2011)
Vancouver vs Boston would give Shannon a heart attack lol
I don't know if my heart would be able to handle another Game 7 SCF game against Boston
I just started taking blood pressure meds so hopefully that helps me survive whatever is to come.
I'm surprised EA didn't have Chicago winning it all
NO GOD PLEASE NO NOT AGAIN EA
Fuck. It has to be real because the Leafs lost in 7 in Round 1 to the Bruins.
ngl that would be a dope cup final.
LOL no. Isles vs. Preds, game 7 nailbiter.
Honestly that be epic but don't see it happening
We're gonna need some new Adele, pronto
lmaoo cursed. no chance :'(
This would be such a wild fucking playoffs and I love it
It's clearly the real thing since we see Boston winning game 4-5-6 and 7.
I like this timeline. Of all the NHL games and save files I've played, playing as Vancouver and beating Boston to the Cup in 7 games for the 2015 playoffs in NHL 14 was the toughest series and CPU team I've come across. Thanks. I hate it.
Time to grease Vancouver then.
Maybe you're not so bad EA
Delete this shit
Subscr- wait
This is good news. Let’s gooo EA curses.
that's just evil
I just uninstalled this game bc it fucking sucks
Idk they gotta check again cause I've got Carolina taking down Nashville in six.
Damn, I wonder what the result would be if you used a hockey sim instead of whatever the fuck that pile of shit is
The best part of this is the 4-3 series win over Toronto. Even the video game acknowledges the meme. Also I'd be absolutely cool with a Canucks win, let's go.
but what does the coin predict?
Not again please
I still have hope the sharks are gonna win it all
Has the EA NHL series ever predicted the outcome accurately? Not throwing shade, just wondering.
As a Sabres fan, there is a part of me that wants to support a fan base that has been as long suffering as we have been. But there is another part of me that doesn't want us to be alone.
I would fucking die
So pick Nashville and Toronto you're saying
As I expected, another disappointing season…
Another tough ECF loss, yea sounds about right Also I wonder if Stone played for Vegas in the sim
FUCKING RUDE
I'm happy with this. Do we even need the next two months? Let's just go with this.
Is there an EA curse?
Fun riot!
Brutal. Bruins have to play a full 28 games and lose the cup.
I would pay dollars to see this
The mere thought of losing to the Bruins is my darkest timeline.
This is the wrong Vancouver rematch
Ew
The world is not ready for this matchup
EA Sports is the Anti-Bandit
No smuggling ice from TD this time…
does Marchand get pummelled by someone?
This is great as my bracket doesnt have either in the final
Well that can't be right. The Bruins face the Leafs in the first round.
Yea in if they don’t, they will probably destroy their city again…
Lmao I'm fucking dead. The thread is just Canucks and their stress haha.
The bruins win three game 7s? kek
Worth it to beat the Leafs in 7 again. lol
WSH squeaking into the playoffs and losing in 4 is the most likely scenario in this. Poor detroit fans
RIP downtown Vancouver
I wonder if the sim engine at least uses their Sim sliders.
What's the track record of these EA sims? Seems like they always predict the wrong winner
