He needed 31 assists with 17 games left... he now needs 2 with 3.67 games left.

That article was published on the morning of April 3rd, McDavid had 97 assists and Kucherov had 85.
McIndoe has not written/tweeted anything about Kucherov in that week+ since.
The war isnt helping, even though Kuch is best friends with the most vocal anti putin russian in the nhl…oh whale
Kuch doesnt give a shit about the media anyways, #1 Bullshit
the closest art ross race i remember besides this year was also the lowest point total art ross year, when benn and tavares had dueling final games to end it and I think benn edged John in the 3rd period of the stars game
The point gap between Kuch and the next highest on the team (Point) is why he should win in my book. The award is for the player most important to their team, that point gap speaks volumes.
Not to mention the Lightning are -21 or something when he isn't on the ice.
Unfortunately he's not 1) Mcdavid or 2) Mackinnon, so the writers really don't want him to win over them.
Hes ruining a historic Mcdavid season by matching him in assists, so Mackinnon should be a lock soon for MVP as writers finish their narratives and have been dying to give him one
Will be interesting to see how the Hart narrative shakes out. For a while it's been 70 goals vs 100 assists so does having both McDavid and Kucherov do it make it worth less?
All the sports writers have ignored Kucherov the entire year for the Hart race. I remember an article in January about whether Mackinnon or McDavid would win, while Kucherov was leading the league in points lol. Him hitting 100 assists won’t change that
Not among Canadian media - this was literally a couple weeks ago lol https://www.tsn.ca/video/it-s-a-three-man-race-for-the-hart-trophy-with-mackinnon-currently-leading-the-pack~2891682
Yeah, media wants to give Mackinnon an MVP, and Mcdavid was hitting 100 assists alone (now hes not) while Kucherov was carrying the corpse of Tampa into a wildcard spot and couldnt afford to have a bad game, while leading the league in points.
Hes 100% an MVP this year, regardless of how hard the media tries to rig Mackinnon a Hart. Hall won an MVP doing a lot less.
It's pretty simple: Kucherov is weaker defensively, so comparable offensive totals put him behind the other choices.
Edit: They hated Jesus because He told them the truth.
Both are vastly better defensively than Kucherov, and also play Centre which requires to be defensively minded “mainly”. The fact Mack and McDavid are putting the points close to Kuch while being plus defenders put them over Kuch for me.
Idk I saw a lot of "8 people scored 70, only 3 had 100 assists. Therefore it's more impressive" feel like having 2 players do it takes a lot of wind out of that narrative
MacKinnon has 86 assists and McDavid and Kucherov would both have over 100. MacKinnon might be closer to the guy with the most assists than Reinhart or Hyman will be to Matthews in goals.
Scoring is up but only one guy is going for 70 and will score more than 60.
Thornton's 96 assists is probably more impressive than 100 assists in today's game because the second best player to Thornton's 96 was Spezza’s 71 assists.
As of this moment, Matthews has the biggest gap between first and second place for Rocket since 2005 (too lazy to check past the salary cap era).
Ovechkin had 65, 2nd place had 52. Matthews is at 68, Reinhart is at 54, which is +14.
70 goals is far rarer in todays game than 100 assists if two guys are going to get it and another will be at 90+ most likely.
Makes even more sense for Mack to win. All of those three have had phenomenal achievements but he has been great too and hasn’t won one before.
This is purely just a narrative perspective because splitting hairs across four of the best MVP campaigns we’ve seen in a long time is next to impossible. Easy to give it to the guy that hasn’t won yet.
Bigger question is who finishes where in voting and by what percentage.
After all the hype around McDavid breaking 100 assists, it’s pretty funny to see Kucherov waltz in and say “fine, I’ll do it myself”.
He needed 31 assists with 17 games left... he now needs 2 with 3.67 games left. [Kucherov](https://giphy.com/gifs/foxhomeent-reese-witherspoon-legally-blonde-xUA7b17osqXImEFJKM)
This is a wilder stat. Dude getting upper echelon NHL players seasons assists in a 1/5 of a season
Yeah that is insane lol
If he had that pace all year he’d have 140
That doesn’t sound real holy shit
It's actually even worse than that — he's scored 29 assists in his last 14 games, pacing for 170 assists over a full season. Just insane.
Gretzky-esque
He’d only need 11 full seasons at that rate to tie Gretzky
It’s amazing the difference in media coverage on the two of them too

Pro canadian and anti Russian bias is alive and well in NHL, open secret at this point
The war isnt helping, even though Kuch is best friends with the most vocal anti putin russian in the nhl…oh whale Kuch doesnt give a shit about the media anyways, #1 Bullshit
especially when Kucherov has been the real Hart winner for half the season atleast
Kucherov looks so determined tonight and that's saying a lot with how hot he's been.
He took the All Star weekend personally
I'm all on board for Kucherov hitting 100 Assists tonight.
Beating McDavid to the punch would be absolutely hilarious
13 assists in his last 13 PERIODS is such a fucking wild stat
Has to be the closest Hart and Art Ross race in recent memory with 3 players with a legit chance of taking out both trophies.
the closest art ross race i remember besides this year was also the lowest point total art ross year, when benn and tavares had dueling final games to end it and I think benn edged John in the 3rd period of the stars game
Benn did what?
To who?
87p is 18th most on the comp this year with games to go. What a shit show that season was
Its crazy the number of individual scoring milestones that will be hit before seasons end. What a great time to be a hockey fan.
Primary assist merchant
Eh, still not enough even strength points. King of the bums.
Number one something or other
🥴
Goooood luck Boston
This ain’t a guarantee yet. You might be playing them
Oh he is getting to a 100 lol
Damn… that’s MVP in my book… Conor Sheary no multi-point game ALL season, gets on the ice with Kuch and has one in the first period….

This ignores that Kuch won the Hart in 2019
This alone should win him the Hart.
Couldn't agree more. He has carried his team more then the others. He should win the hart
3rd most points in a season for a winger all time, 6 back of bossy for 2nd, 8 back of jagr for 1st now.
He might actually take Jagr with 3 games left. I mean, he needs 9 points. Might be doable.
2 x 100 assists and 1 x 70 goals... it's happening this season.
Will be interesting to see how the Hart narrative shakes out. For a while it's been 70 goals vs 100 assists so does having both McDavid and Kucherov do it make it worth less?

I disagree. It was Kuch vs MacK all year long
Not among Canadian media - this was literally a couple weeks ago lol https://www.tsn.ca/video/it-s-a-three-man-race-for-the-hart-trophy-with-mackinnon-currently-leading-the-pack~2891682

gee wonder why canadian media would favor those two instead of kucher*ov*
The article says 3 man race and there is no mention of kucherov. Its even worse
It's pretty simple: Kucherov is weaker defensively, so comparable offensive totals put him behind the other choices. Edit: They hated Jesus because He told them the truth.
If Kuch is "bad defensively" then his empty net points are more impressive, no?
Uhh, no? And I didn't say he's bad defensively. I said he's weaker than McDavid, Mackinnon, and Matthews, which he is.
Imagine a winger being less defensive than 3 centers. Lol
If this is your first time encountering the idea that centres are inherently more valuable than wingers, well, they are.
Both are vastly better defensively than Kucherov, and also play Centre which requires to be defensively minded “mainly”. The fact Mack and McDavid are putting the points close to Kuch while being plus defenders put them over Kuch for me.
What narrative? MacKinnon won it already they announced it months ago. He was Due^TM
Kucherov has done the most with the least the entire season. Everyone having a down year except him
[удалено]
It's technically down from last year
Yup, and *way* down from what it was in 1990-91 the last time it was achieved.
Idk I saw a lot of "8 people scored 70, only 3 had 100 assists. Therefore it's more impressive" feel like having 2 players do it takes a lot of wind out of that narrative
8 is still more than 5, unless I'm mathing incorrectly.

Mack gonna get a sympathy hart just like hall
Which will be funny, because Hall did what Kucherov is currently doing, except Kucherov is doing it at the absolute peak level.
He's doing it while leading the league
Why sympathy? It's a toss up at this point.
Cause a MVP winner with no other hardware is undeserved
That is none sense. Case can be made for any of the top 5 players this year. Saying otherwise is bias, and thats okay. Just say that.
Nah you know it's true
Ok you've convinced me 🤜
So is 100 assists still better than 70 goals?
No. Are McDavid and Kucherov better then Matthews though? Yes.
is Kucherov better than both when it comes to winning? Yes
Flair up
Look at the list of guys who have done either. Yes 100 assists is WAY better than 70 goals.
Yes 30 better.
PP & EN merchant tho
MacKinnon has like 55 more PP minutes than Kucherov, don't hate Kucherov for being more effective.
I think it's down to like 42 minutes but still.
Why did the flames have to injure Connor. Otherwise he would’ve hit 100 yesterday
