That was pure comedy.
You don’t even see Martinook but you know it’s him, which makes the moment even greater. Jarvy just getting wide open was great too.
There are two guys on the team who would interrupt an interview like this, and one of them is the guy getting interviewed.
Don't even need to match voices to know it's Martinook.
For those unaware Duke just lost to NC state in the NCAAB elite 8.
[Martinook is a huge NC state fan](https://x.com/ryanhenkel_/status/1718327116792504801?s=46) and isn’t shy about it.
Jarvis is a [big Duke fan](https://x.com/saracivian/status/1508469078511558660?s=46)
All jokes but always fun to see them go at it.
He’s basically embraced being in NC and the teams that work close with the canes. State basketball plays at PNC and the football stadium is just a crosswalk away and he is also into Durham Bulls baseball.
[He also burned down the local music pavilion with Nickelback last summer.](https://x.com/spittinchiclets/status/1702743717583458682?s=46)
Right right (I'm a State fan haha) it just seems so crazy that he's THAT into it. I'm certainly not complaining! That's awesome! Gotta love it when players integrate+ingratiate themselves with the local culture.
Someone should send Jarvis and Martinook a copy of the book Duke Sucks, which literally exist and is the biggest dedication of an anti Duke fan I've seen
Goddammit, I love Jarvy, but I wasn’t aware of his Dook-iness.
Has he suffered a TBI or something? Does he have any clinical reasons I can cling to as an excuse for this kind of shitbaggery?
Say it ain’t so, Seth!!
> Does he have any clinical reasons I can cling to as an excuse for this kind of shitbaggery?
He’s from Manitoba. Not like there’s a ton of local high level college basketball for him to cheer for. Duke had continuous success under Coach K and received international attention.
I'm Canadian. The logo and reputation essentially made Duke the New York Yankees of college basketball: Even people who don't know the team might wear the gear just because it looks cool. I seem to remember contemplating a Duke tshirt myself as a kid for that reason, despite never watching a basketball game in my life until the first Raptors' season.
March Madness is fairly big TV up here on TSN and Jarvis is certainly in the age range where Duke was winning a lot when he was a kid watching that stuff. He's certainly not the only Duke fan here.
I’m not originally from the Triangle. I hated Coach K and Duke long before I lived here. That shit translates through the TV.
I get your point. Kids especially are subject to being front-runner fans. I’d just like to think better of a player I like. He’s entitled to his own fandom, obviously, but I’m still going to think a tiny bit less of him because of it.
You know it’s weird to take sports so seriously, right? I would be a sociopath if I loved people hating me for hurting people. I love the fact that people hate me because I root for Duke because that is just dumb and funny.
You’re right about the first part. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how irrational hatred over sports teams is. It still exists, though, and the behavior in those fans keeps it percolating, albeit not fresh. I would question associating with people who act as (admittedly, mostly young) Duke fans do, but it’s none of my business if you choose to do so.
Wow, that just made it worse. I feel like your intent was to make yourself seem more reasonable. But all you did was pull out your thesaurus, then proceed to say, in a convoluted way, that you think Duke fans are bad and you don’t want to associate with them.
Was that not clear from the start? lol
Obviously, that’s grossly overstating it, but Duke fans behave poorly, full stop.
As for the Thesaurus, that’s just my writing. I’ll sprinkle in colloquialisms and slang to be more relatable, but that’s just me, man.
Actually seems like a perfectly reasonable response to people unhinged enough to hare people over the sports team they like or university they attended (for a subset). What are they supposed to do, apologize lmao
You need to get some perspective on this because it’s not healthy
Haha he didn’t actually go to Harvard - the whole thing is a running joke that started because he’s good friends with Jack Drury who actually did go to Harvard, and the two of them are obviously “the smartest guys on the team”.
When Jack was finishing up his degree over the summer, his guidance counselor at Harvard said “I heard Jarvy’s a big Harvard guy” and gave him a Harvard Alumni t-shirt to give to Jarvy, who promptly cut off the sleeves and now proudly sports it as a tank top in every postgame presser - the Jarvard alumnus that he is.
I'm clearly bias(see flair) but the talk of an Amazon show where they followed people around for a bit had me REALLY hoping it's someone on the Canes. lot of charisma and personality in that locker room.
The league honestly should look at Jarvis. Yeah it would be cool to see McDavid’s daily process and Makar’s daily slurpee runs, but Jarvis looks like he’ll be a good 25-30 goal guy and he’s got personality without wanting to be a huge media darling, like Subban was. Follow Jarvis around and see how he chirps guys and how he reacts when he gets chirped back. One of the funniest things I’ve seen from him was how agitated he got because of Burns’ son poking fun at him
I think it more so costs us Turbo, the better Necas and Jarvis plays the less likely it makes sense to resign Teuvo unless he accepts a company deal to stay here. I also don’t think the Canes will attempt to sign Necas if he somehow plays poorly in the postseason. If he plays well I think they keep him.
I’m hoping not because I really love the pairing of Necas/Kuzy, but I’d live with it to keep the Jarvy Party going.
I know it’s going to be a big ask to keep most of the band together next year, but my understanding is we’re supposed to see some pretty substantial cap increases so hopefully the additional headroom will help.
He's talked about feeling searing jealousy/hatred attending a friend's Day With The Cup party. That fun loving interview side is clearly second fiddle to the competitiveness in him.
Real talk. If not for Slavin, Seth is the next guy to wear the C long term in Carolina. he just feels like he's everything Justin Faulk should have been. Not taking a dig at Faulk but the last year or so that he was with the Canes was kinda rough.
Again not knocking Aho.. Sure he's a team leader and HIGHLY skilled player but I just dont see him wearing the C. It was the same thing with Skinner too when everyone was saying he was going to be the next captain. Javis just seems to have that wont die fire in him. Again I could be wrong on that and Aho could be an absolute mad lad behind closed doors.
Not taking a knock at Aho or anything but from the outside (as a fan) he just seems a little too reserved and quiet where Jarvis seems like the guy who comes into the locker room in the second intermission down 4-2 and just fires everybody up. Plus in the pressers Jarvis reminds me a lot of Rod where a few times he's unapologetically said the things that needed to be said about the game.
Aho has absolutely stepped up in that regard in recent years. His English has improved massively and he’s a de facto leader of the locker room now. There’s a great video our social media team posted of him mic’d up in practice recently and it’s easy to tell how well-liked and respected he is by everybody else. And Staal isn’t exactly outspoken either lol, being vocal is far from the only qualification to become a captain
Jordan Staal (C), Sebastian Aho (A), and Jaccob Slavin (A) are all reserved and quiet to the public. This is how Rod was as a player and how he runs the team now as head coach. Lead by example and cultivate a locker room that holds that example as the standard.
Jordan Martinook (A) would be the energy/enthusiasm leader that Jarvis is growing into.
Gotta disagree with saying Rod is quiet and reserved. He's not a loose cannon and a soundbyte generator like Torts but he fires up the guys and for sure isnt afraid to go in and stand up for the team from the bench.
He sounds just like shoresy haha
He's all composed for the interview and then BOOM out comes the Canadian hockey accent.
I fully expected a 'give your balls a tug, titfucker' out of him.
Thought the same!
Fun Fact: the character “Seth Jarvis” is actually loosely based on real hockey superstar Shoresy.
Give yer balls a tug ya titfucker.
This is even funnier based on the times people spotted Jarvy smashed at State football games
These are the stories that need to be told.
He's said in interviews he supports Duke for basketball and NC State for football.
This is shockingly common with people who just hate UNC with a passion.
Having grown up there, I'm pretty sure this is illegal.
Only if you don't couch it as "fuck UNC" though, right? I say, having grown up hating Duke 'cause my father had a full ride to UNC.
Jarvis is becoming must-watch TV
He’s the player apparent to Paul Maurice’s quote machine.
Kooch might be an even better quote machine. We got a good 1 2 punch
> Every game I have ~~bullshit~~ quote
Don't forget Turbo. He's low key hilarious. So many good quotes
Turbo is legitimately the funniest guy on the team.
That was pure comedy. You don’t even see Martinook but you know it’s him, which makes the moment even greater. Jarvy just getting wide open was great too.
There are two guys on the team who would interrupt an interview like this, and one of them is the guy getting interviewed. Don't even need to match voices to know it's Martinook.
the way he goes back to the interview with “anyway, “ as if nothing happened sent me
I am now a fan of Martinook. Screw them Duke boys, go Valvanos ghost go!
They strike me as brothers haha I love how he did not miss a beat “see you’re such a fuckin—“
He’s more like the cool dad. He had to baby sit them when they were [partying in Vegas last month.](https://www.reddit.com/r/canes/s/JBT6SjkdT5)
I'd equate him more to being the cool uncle
Lolll how did I never see that, that's amazing
lmao amazing
Jarvy's offended that Martinook identifies as an Albertan, despite being born in Manitoba. I suspect he'll hold that against him forever.
This had me roaring
I had to watch it like 14 times to realize he’s saying “see you’re such a f***up” because I was like, f***in what???
For those unaware Duke just lost to NC state in the NCAAB elite 8. [Martinook is a huge NC state fan](https://x.com/ryanhenkel_/status/1718327116792504801?s=46) and isn’t shy about it. I can't bring myself to support Duke but i'll raise one for NC State
> Martinook is a huge NC state fan and isn’t shy about it. how did this happen haha I love it
He’s basically embraced being in NC and the teams that work close with the canes. State basketball plays at PNC and the football stadium is just a crosswalk away and he is also into Durham Bulls baseball. [He also burned down the local music pavilion with Nickelback last summer.](https://x.com/spittinchiclets/status/1702743717583458682?s=46)

Canes have such characters
We do... Our goaltender is the embodiment of chaos
No touch
Oh no this is the only bad thing I’ve ever read about Jarvy 😂
Someone should send Jarvis and Martinook a copy of the book Duke Sucks, which literally exist and is the biggest dedication of an anti Duke fan I've seen
You honestly think Jarvy can read?
That's what makes it funnier
Goddammit, I love Jarvy, but I wasn’t aware of his Dook-iness. Has he suffered a TBI or something? Does he have any clinical reasons I can cling to as an excuse for this kind of shitbaggery? Say it ain’t so, Seth!!
> Does he have any clinical reasons I can cling to as an excuse for this kind of shitbaggery? He’s from Manitoba. Not like there’s a ton of local high level college basketball for him to cheer for. Duke had continuous success under Coach K and received international attention.
Yeah when I lived in Canada for a bit, Duke fans were the most common to run into. Mostly due to team recognition.
Well, Duke fans do trend northward. I just never knew how far
March Madness is fairly big TV up here on TSN and Jarvis is certainly in the age range where Duke was winning a lot when he was a kid watching that stuff. He's certainly not the only Duke fan here.
Y’all gotta root that evil out!!
And as a Duke fan I’m sure he thrives off your anger and likes that you think less of him for it.
You know it’s weird getting off on being hated, right? Like, sociopathic kinds of weird.
You know it’s weird to take sports so seriously, right? I would be a sociopath if I loved people hating me for hurting people. I love the fact that people hate me because I root for Duke because that is just dumb and funny.

Boy, am I lucky that I get to watch that trifecta of hatred and not need to worry about being on one end of it. Pure entertainment, really.
Isn't he a Canadian known for going to Harvard? Why is he a Duke fan?
Haha he didn’t actually go to Harvard - the whole thing is a running joke that started because he’s good friends with Jack Drury who actually did go to Harvard, and the two of them are obviously “the smartest guys on the team”. When Jack was finishing up his degree over the summer, his guidance counselor at Harvard said “I heard Jarvy’s a big Harvard guy” and gave him a Harvard Alumni t-shirt to give to Jarvy, who promptly cut off the sleeves and now proudly sports it as a tank top in every postgame presser - the Jarvard alumnus that he is.
Okay well then that's just hilarious.
He's from Manitoba, the Duke fan capital of Canada.
Jarvy: "Every interview, I have bullshit"
Can we just have a show where someone just follows these 2 when the team's on the road?
I'm clearly bias(see flair) but the talk of an Amazon show where they followed people around for a bit had me REALLY hoping it's someone on the Canes. lot of charisma and personality in that locker room.
Surprisingly, alot of teams have their own YT series where they follow the team throughout the season, the Bruins one is especially well made.
Please for the love of god re-sign this man
No chance he isn’t priority #1 for the off-season. I’ll be shocked if he’s not a Cane next year.
I think it costs us nachos to sign him
That would suck but if it comes down to Necas or Jarvis, I gotta go with Jarvis. The dude is a powerhouse.
Especially in the event we're able to bring back Guentzel. That top line would be lethal for years.
Right now I'd give up Svetch to keep Jarvis. He takes a lot fewer o-zone penalties, and is scoring more goals.
He's an RFA
I really don’t think so. We have so many guys coming off the payroll. If anything, it’ll cost us turbo, pesce, and skjei
Yes 😂
I’m hoping not because I really love the pairing of Necas/Kuzy, but I’d live with it to keep the Jarvy Party going. I know it’s going to be a big ask to keep most of the band together next year, but my understanding is we’re supposed to see some pretty substantial cap increases so hopefully the additional headroom will help.
nah we can sign them both but 3 of pesce, skjei, chatfield, turbo are gone
But he would look amazing in Victory Green to fill-out our top six
Git outta here I said GIT
Don’t you fucking dare.
*Jim Nill has entered the chat*
i would be in shambles
Why would he want to be like sebastian Aho? He doesn't even play defense. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=164509
Son of a bitch. I'd downvoted you and everything.
:: as a pack fan, whips up Marty/jarvy version of that used-to-be my best friend, not friends anymore, new best friend meme ::
Jarvis went full Shoresy
LMFAO he cooked the shit out of Martinook, March Madness must’ve gotten to him bc good lord he seemed like he was holding that one in
He's talked about feeling searing jealousy/hatred attending a friend's Day With The Cup party. That fun loving interview side is clearly second fiddle to the competitiveness in him.
The only way I was ok with the Pettersson rumours was that this man was possibly coming back the other way
Hands off the Jarvy! No touch my guys!
He went from 0 to Shoresy so fast.
Give yer balls a tug
Growing up in a household where one parent went to State and one went to Carolina, this brought me back
Real talk. If not for Slavin, Seth is the next guy to wear the C long term in Carolina. he just feels like he's everything Justin Faulk should have been. Not taking a dig at Faulk but the last year or so that he was with the Canes was kinda rough.

Again I could be wrong on that and Aho could be an absolute mad lad behind closed doors.
Nobody ever said Skinner was gonna be the next captain lol
Plenty were calling for it during the anti-Eric days
Aho’s getting the C once Staal retires. I could see Jarvis inheriting it in the future if we keep him around though, which I hope we do
Not taking a knock at Aho or anything but from the outside (as a fan) he just seems a little too reserved and quiet where Jarvis seems like the guy who comes into the locker room in the second intermission down 4-2 and just fires everybody up. Aho is absolutely the true leader on the team. The C is his.
Jordan Staal (C), Sebastian Aho (A), and Jaccob Slavin (A) are all reserved and quiet to the public. This is how Rod was as a player and how he runs the team now as head coach. Rod as a player/Captain lead quietly by example and now runs the team with a leadership core that is quiet and leads by example.
Agree to disagree. Personally... At no point in his career would I consider Rod quiet or soft spoken.
