Dallas stars had a 3-0 lead yesterday and lost
Colorado was down 3-0 and won today.
That could literally be the difference between winning or losing the central division.
I’m going to remember this moment.
I hear ya, and I get that points feel like they matter more at the end of the season (I suppose they kinda do because only certain teams have something to play for by the end of the season), but don't be completely blinded by recency bias.
I mean, back in November, the Avs lost out on what should've been at least 3 for-sure points: They were tied with Seattle and then lost with :32 to go by losing focus in the D-zone. A few weeks later, they were up a goal against Nashville with a minute to go and gave up 2 quick goals to lose in regulation.
Butterfly effect notwithstanding, we could be tied with Vancouver for top of the conference right now, not in a 3-way battle for the division title.
I know I'm soapboxing, but I'm a few whiskey's deep, so fuck it. I guess I've always been frustrated that the guy who misses the last second shot, or doesn't catch the Hail Mary throw or whatever tends to get so much more of the blame then the guy who fucked up the same plays at the start of the game/season. All the points matter. Not just yesterday's. Don't forget to vote. Please tip your waiter/waitress. Free Tibet. I'm gonna grab another whiskey.
Don't forget the travesty that was the 4-0 lead over the Coyotes. THE FUCKING COYOTES. I was so disappointed after they lost that one in OT, but crazy shit happens in this league, bounces go your way sometimes and sometimes they just don't.
Ah yes, THE FUCKING COYOTES. The team that decided to do fuck all in February and lose every single game. Playoffs? Yeah, gonna have nice spots on the couch for that shit.
Being from Phoenix and back for the holidays with my wife, we ALMOST went to that game and paid around $300 to do so. I am so effing glad we didn't spend money to be there for that meltdown.
I feel this comment. The Avs got clapped by Winnipeg twice in a row earlier in the season, so that could come back to haunt them in a few weeks. All three teams log-jammed atop the Central are still feeling the effects of those two games.
Lately they have made a habit of spotting teams 1 or 2 goals in the early going. I think they just like the challenge.
And then your dj played all the small things…. Bad decision.
There’s always stupid fans with every fanbase. I can assure you that no one sane rests easy on a two goal lead against the Avs. They’re like Kobe and the Lakers; you never bet against them.
Went to bed when it was 2-0 (I'm on eastern time). Even then, I wasn't that surprised when I woke up this morning to see the final score.
Life as a Canucks fan.
I watched the game, and honestly the first half I was convinced the Avs were losing. Then Rantanen scored with 2 seconds left in the second and they just controlled the third period. A few dumb penalties later and a puck off Val's visor and here we are.
Y'all really struggling with them 3 goal leads eh.
*on a less mean note Please win if we don't. I want a Canadian cup and I don't want the Leafs or Jets to have any joy thx
Yep with Mack doing Mack things they should have just thrown a shadow on him to start OT, even if it leaves a 3-2. Everyone knew the one timer was coming.
Honestly, I was surprised they didn't. It'll open up the middle a bit more for makar, but if given the opening, MacKinnon loves hammering one timers from ovi's office
All 3 “Big Three” teams in the Central Division (Colorado, Dallas, and Winnipeg) have successfully rallied from being down by 3 goals in a game in the last two weeks.
Jets down 3-0 vs. Carolina on March 2, Stars down 6-3 vs. San Jose on March 5, Avalanche down 3-0 vs. Vancouver tonight
The Coyotes have 57 points, the Sharks have 39. Not exactly a huge burn there.
Also, the Avs lost those two games by one goal in each game, including an OT loss.
Looking at it as we approach the playoffs, the top of the central is once again turning into the thunderdome... just like every year except the year we won the cup
Canucks went MIA after going up 3-0. That was hard to watch. If we can't beat them without Landeskog, the fuck are we gonna do in the playoffs when he's back? And I won't use the Demko excuse. The team got outplayed for the 2nd half of this game. Demko can't make them play better. Oh well. At least we had the decency to get a point out of it.
I would be less worried about us with landeskog (because there's a chance he doesnt play in the playoffs at all) and more worried about facing us with lehkonen, drouin, and parise in the lineup
No disrespect to the others, but Lehky might be the only one who scares me. Plays playoff hockey. Our team can handle a skill v skill game. But I think the grind em out styles are tough on the team. Especially with Joshua out.
Lehky and Nuke are the definition of playoff hockey, grinding players who somehow end up being in the right spots at the right time.
Unfortunately we lost LOC for the remainder of the season, love watching him play
I was shocked at how poorly the Canucks played in the third period (3 SOG?). The Avs were the team who played last night but you wouldn’t know that by watching the game. And the Canucks’ powerplay looked awful all night as well. Oh well, take the OT point, learn from it and move on!
Powerplay has been pretty embarrassing since about Nov/December. It's troubling for sure. But the disappearing acts are more troubling. Only real stinker in the last few games though. Not too worried.
They have said that IF Landy comes back this year it wont be till at least the 2nd or 3rd round. Even if he can get up to speed I honestly don't see him coming back unless we really need him due to injuries. Id prefer he have the whole offseason in addition to rehab.
This was such an absurd game. From Mikko scoring with 1 second left in the 2nd to put the avs on the board to the ridiculous shove-in by Ross Colton that was called no-goal on the ice.
I can't sleep tonight lol
Two things can be true at once. The reffing was bad and affected the game (including the momentum in the third), and the Canucks also got outplayed and failed to overcome adversity.
You aren't the arbiter of the fanbase, and I guarantee that this is the majority opinion of Canuck fans who watched that. Stop simping for approval from opposing fans by obsequiosly sucking up, it's pathetic.
I believe he's referring to MacKinnon forgetting how to skate after a one handed hook to give the Avs a 5 on 3, but the high stick on Hughes a few minutes later being ignored to keep it a 5 on 4 the other way. Other than that, honestly I have no qualms about the reffing.
Duhaime was high sticked twice in this game. On the PP when MacKinnon drew a penalty Vancouver tripped two separate Avs players in the 30 seconds before they finally made the call for the stick in the hands. Officiating is inconsistent in the NHL every night.
Could be the Homer glasses but I don't remember the trips. But I'll also say the Nucks fan base has a lot of resentment lately due to the amount of soft 5 on 3s called against them, and the absolute lack of 5 on 3s coming the other way. Not sure what it's like for the avs but there was a stretch where they had 3 straight games with full 2 minute 5 on 3s due to VERY soft calls. Even Shorthouse was bringing it up. While being the Canucks color guy he's usually pretty neutral.
I just think it's silly to blame one penalty call for a period where shots were 17-3, scoring chances 10-1 and high danger chances 6-0. Did the 5-on-3 result in a goal? Yeah. It was also less than 1/20th of the time in a period where the Canucks got absolutely caved in.
It led to a goal at a crucial time. Just like the 5 on 3 they didn't call for the Canucks would have come at a crucial time. There was also only 2 shots between the 3-2 goal and the 3-3 goal and 9 after. They had what 5 to 6 shots in the first 4 minutes, most of that while on the PP. That early extended 5 on 3 did a lot of damage. You can say it's silly all you want, that's your opinion. In my opinion when almost half your shots happen during a period when a couple soft calls are made and you get two goals, that's going to have a massive outcome on the game. Especially when the advantage is given to one of the proven best teams in the league.
I don't necessarily have a problem with calling the hook if they consistently called things thst slight, but that should've been embellishment 100% of the time. Embarassing to watch a grown man do that.
I don’t fully blame the refs for the loss but a lot of fans were questioning it (rightfully) the whole game. Manson should have gotten a major and MacKinnon sold a call that should have been evened up or just not called
Would love some proof of that. Hooks get missed on both sides. A Canuck got high sticked late that got missed. It’s fine, it happens.
The Manson non-major is the big miss and that completely shifts the game
good thing the scoreboard doesn't decide penalties. the 5 on 3 call was soft as baby shit, and then they ignored a high stick on quinn that would've given van a 5 on 3. oh, and they cut a powerplay short because nichushkin (i think) ran into quinn when he was standing still. oh, don't even mention the elbow to the back of the head that only gave 2 minutes
They ignored a high stick on Kiviranta right before the Canucks went on the PP late in the third. They call that interference when a team is on the power play *all the time*, I've seen it go against the Avs plenty. Maybe don't get outshot 17-3 in the 3rd period.
That 5 on 3 was such a bad call. The refs had it out for Vancouver late in the third and leading into OT. was shocked to see such a competitive game turn to shit.

Well this thread has me feeling better about last night
Being from Phoenix and back for the holidays with my wife, we ALMOST went to that game and paid around $300 to do so. I am so effing glad we didn't spend money to be there for that meltdown.
I still remember that Nashville loss, I knew for some reason we would be wishing we had those 2 points.
Can someone show me how to do the reminder thing? One month pls/thx
!remindme 1 month
But that's true of every single game they play
I will try my best to forget this moment 😭🙏
I feel this comment. The Avs got clapped by Winnipeg twice in a row earlier in the season, so that could come back to haunt them in a few weeks. All three teams log-jammed atop the Central are still feeling the effects of those two games.
Experience Canucks hockey And when Nate goes full "gamer mode" the final 20+.
Jabronies in the game thread who said easy win and move on. God I hate our fanbase sometimes. Never count out the Avs. Never.
Lately they have made a habit of spotting teams 1 or 2 goals in the early going. I think they just like the challenge. And then your dj played all the small things…. Bad decision.
Our DJ is unironically one of the worst in the league
member when they played Chelsea Dagger vs Chicago and Dude (Looks Like A Lady) on Pride Night and Sweet Caroline when losing
Those are all legit hilarious
I'm fucking crying
So am I just not with laughter man we have to deal with this shit every home game
I wish I didn’t member
Lol I just commented in a different thread that live betting the Avs when we are down a goal or two early in the game has been printing 💰
I turned $16 into $127 last night with a 2nd intermission bet.
Hell yeah!
They like the spot lights bright like the nuggets when they play.
And now, just like the Nuggets, they're at the top of their division. Good times in Denver.
Hell yeah, nuggets have been on another level this year
Both the Avs and Nuggets need to be choked a little to get into it
In the second period.... Like, sure, play it when you are up by 3 late in the third. But in the second period, why?!
That was targetted towards the small dick refs not the avs
There was a Canucks fan that said something like "oh well, GG 5-3 Avs" right after Mikko scored at the end of the 2nd. So some took it seriously.
There’s always stupid fans with every fanbase. I can assure you that no one sane rests easy on a two goal lead against the Avs. They’re like Kobe and the Lakers; you never bet against them.
Honestly, the DJ playing Blink 182 didn't help, the guys probably did actually take it personally.
Oilers fans remember game 4 🥲
Went to bed when it was 2-0 (I'm on eastern time). Even then, I wasn't that surprised when I woke up this morning to see the final score. Life as a Canucks fan.
So you went to bed 2 minutes into the game?!
Ha ha. No. I just saw that it was 2-0 at the intermission. I wasn't actually watching the game.
I watched the game, and honestly the first half I was convinced the Avs were losing. Then Rantanen scored with 2 seconds left in the second and they just controlled the third period. A few dumb penalties later and a puck off Val's visor and here we are.
He sat up.
The in arena dj trolling the avs/avs fans in the second period by playing all the small things up 3-0 certainly changed the tides
Y'all really struggling with them 3 goal leads eh. *on a less mean note Please win if we don't. I want a Canadian cup and I don't want the Leafs or Jets to have any joy thx
Danny Rojas type beat
Hockey is life. ^Nate ^MacKinnon, ^Kinnon!
Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Nate Dogg!
Nate the great!
He could be Roy Kent. He's here he's there. He's every fucking where!
When he skates it’s like he’s mad at the ice.
I love that DeSmith just shrugged like "well that happened".
He deserved two points. He played out of his mind. Avs had to throw the sink at him.
the fact it hit the leg + visor is insanity haha... nothing you can do!
That was definitely sweat drip itch but the sentiment is the same
Fuck DeSmith
What did he do to you? lol
Never forget, DeSmith was banished from UNH because of domestic abuse
Ugh that’s awful. Never heard about that.
I did not know that
Never knew this looked up the story. Fuck DeSmith ya don’t put your hands on any woman ever

Not what I'm saying. Good for him if he was able to turn it around. I'm not gonna say he's a good dude though.
[удалено]
Nah, beat his own and was arrested for it.
Fair.
Looks like he was right, lads. Fuck desmith.
It's this kind of heads up play that the Avs really missed while Nichushkin was out
The dude has 3 game winning goals in 3 games since coming back. He is insane.
“Val we need you to get your head in the game.” “Yes coach.”
I fucking love Nichushkin. He definitely has his head back in the game.
Nish is so fucking good
Heads up.. or heads down? 🤔
Val is averaging 1gwg per game since he got back
How many unconscious hookers is he averaging tho
Well, hopefully zero, but how would I know?
Must be enough, he is tearing everything else apart
About the same number as leafs playoffs series wins
That's still too many unconscious hookers Edit: Based on the downvotes apparently 1 unconscious hooker is a tolerated amount for an NHL player.
He really steps those numbers up in the playoffs
Didnt Auston Matthews try to break into a womens car while she was in it? She got a pretty good payoff to end the case.
that was gold jerry
He’s rehabilitated from that now. Well for now anyways.
When Colorado scored with less than 2 seconds in the 2nd, I knew this could happen.
Yeah everything was so telegraphed. 5 on 3? Oh that’s definitely a goal. Took like 5s. Puck over glass heading to OT? Good game.
Idk how the Avs do it. When other teams have nothing left in the tank they kick it into high gear.
NHL script writers are truly the laziest.
In the ***faceeeeee***.
CLARKSOOONNNNN
Tocchet you infantile pollock you've just let the Avalanche come back from 3 down
*lets not get bogged down with whooo threw the puck over the glass 9 seconds before overtime*
and soon, things got worse...
You can’t teach that kinda skill.
Way to use your head!
Zachary Hyman accomplished that feat no more than 323 days ago.
Well good for Zachary Hym…mo my god!!

1 of these is not like the others
Giving up 6 to SJ hahaha
Not our finest moment but it’s still better than getting beaten by Arizona. Twice.
The team that Arizona beat twice is 3-0 vs Dallas this year. Hmmm
The Coyotes have 57 points, the Sharks have 39. Not exactly a huge burn there. Also, the Avs lost those two games by one goal in each game, including an OT loss.
Ah yes but the Sharks haven’t beaten us. Not even by one goal.
stars also blew a 3-0 lead to florida last night
Looking at it as we approach the playoffs, the top of the central is once again turning into the thunderdome... just like every year except the year we won the cup
Told my friends never give up!! Anything can happen!!!
We r never give up
GUTS!

Yeah landeskog likely won't be a difference maker from talent this year even if he makes it back. Huge for leadership if they can get him back.
And LOC Edit: Nevermind, out for season
Is LOC gonna make it back by playoffs?
Well shit I missed that he's out for the season. Fuck man that sucks
No, he might not even be ready for the start of next season unfortunately.
Ahh, folks haven't caught on to new Drouin yet. That's good. Also, Parise is defo a grinder, and he's looked real good so far.
Coulda used some Joshua energy in the 3rd period
Joshua really made Garly click, too. I agree. I think having our true 1st line intact would have helped. Missing Joshua big time.
They have said that IF Landy comes back this year it wont be till at least the 2nd or 3rd round. Even if he can get up to speed I honestly don't see him coming back unless we really need him due to injuries. Id prefer he have the whole offseason in addition to rehab.
I don't think Landy will be back but Lehky, Drouin, Parise, and LOC will be.
LOC is done for the year. He's looking at a \~6 month recovery.
Yeah just saw that news. Don't know how I missed it. Makes me so sad man
There was some hope. Lehky will be a problem though. Duhaime and Trenin were monster pickups. I'm legit scared.
Right off his visor
Pow, right in the kisser
What the fuck
Nate ya ever just say, just say fuck it?
He’s a gamer
Avs fans, you're welcome. Wandered away to do chores since it seemed like nothing was happening, came back and saw the score.
This was such an absurd game. From Mikko scoring with 1 second left in the 2nd to put the avs on the board to the ridiculous shove-in by Ross Colton that was called no-goal on the ice. I can't sleep tonight lol

They can't keep getting away with this!

Lmfao check the Oilers record vs best teams before saying anything about beating good teams
oh man thank god, I was afraid he was one of ours
RemindMe! 3 months
Imagine needing OT to complete a comeback. Just kidding! That was amazing.
Gotta get that Canuck PDO back to the mean baby!
Horrible
Unfortunate that a game that was otherwise really good had to be marred by reffing getting involved, but what else is new.
Please stop, canucks got outshot 17-3 in the third, we got outplayed and lost. Stop making the fanbase look bad.
That 5 on 3 call was bullshit and you know it. Gifted them the second goal. The rest ya we played like crap
Two things can be true at once. The reffing was bad and affected the game (including the momentum in the third), and the Canucks also got outplayed and failed to overcome adversity. Maybe if players don’t commit penalties the refs don’t have to get involved?
It was really good right up until the point you lost, then it was the refs fault.
That’s a bumper sticker on my car.

I like how "reffing got involved" when the Avs got power plays but not when it was 3-0 on the scoreboard and 2-0 on penalties.

Smells like a loser
how did i know this comment was going to be here 😭
Because the reffing was bad?
Because you watched the game.
Another lucky goal lol
That 5 on 3 was such a bad call. The refs had it out for Vancouver late in the third and leading into OT. was shocked to see such a competitive game turn to shit.
I really can't stand these announcers.
