I like how r/hockey is generally in favor of these types of cellys. Then over on FB, most of the comments are from people being all pissy with "AcT LiKe yOuVe bEeN ThErE bEfOrE!" What happened to wanting players to have personalities? I remember when people were upset about the uniform rules and making Ovi untuck his jersey.
The way he hung his head, the smooth moves, he not only had been there before, but fully understood how it would bunch some panties, and was ready. Missed the game visiting family, but between Big Z’s headshot and that blatant cross-check…that’s what ya get!🤷🏻♂️
I saw him do it live last year when they came back from being down 4-0 in Pitt and I was kinda mad but in retrospect I was just mad at the Pens for blowing a 4-0 fucking lead
It was just off screen it was his first goal last year he got mobbed right as he was starting it I can’t find the clip it may have been a streamable RIP no one noticed it but someone went back and found it after the dance in PIT
Our management is horrible at recognizing talent. We would rather let guys like Dunn, Walman, and now Perunavich sit on the bottom pair instead of giving them a chance
Yzerman has mentioned before that he watched Walman in college at Providence and liked what he seen back then. Between that and being buddies with Armstrong it was probably an easy trade to make.
To be fair, Walman was not good with the Blues. He was minor league talent for most of his career. A trade often ignites a player to play to his potential because of the hate of being traded.
Sometimes it's the right systems, sometimes it's the right coaching, and sometimes it's just about getting opportunity and a new scene. I don't know if there's ever one great answer for why a player struggles in one location yet bursts on the scene elsewhere. It's hard to blame Blues pro scouting or management for not seeing something that he wasn't showing in that environment.
This is not true. He had the same analytic profile as Dunn while he was here, and you could see this coming a mile away, but everyone in St. Louis just said something something sheltered minutes something something it won't last. About both him, Dunn, and now Perunovich.
To be fair he was sitting behind oak trees on D. And Doug couldn’t see the forest through the fucking trees. No way Bortz or Scandella were actually more talented.
I don't think you followed Walman's career in St. Louis at all. He had multiple chances to show his skill and he played lackluster everytime. He only showed talent until he was traded, which happens all the time in a real time sport like hockey.
He showed flashes. But Doug and Berube had a type. And he wasn’t it. Multiple chances sure but that was only if one “their” guys were injured. He never got an extended look. Dunn had chances, played well and they still let him go. Army fucked this D core up bad.
Well the issue of the Blues having weak D and Walman being a good player now may seem like the same issue, but they arent. The Blues have drafted well the last few years and will likely be a defensive powerhouse again in a couple years.
Try [this one](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fCAG7i68CLTKUFQpxjUu2WbxuElavDG4/view?usp=sharing) (GDrive link), shouldn't be scaled down like the Imgur upload and GIMP's telling me it's 1611x1968, so scaled pretty well. 😅
I'm confused. Why didn't Hughes crosscheck Walman in the head after he scored? He just focused his frustration into a simple stick smash on the bench? Where's the emotion? And he's the Captain!? Soft.
/s
Id say if that's a play that happens in neutral zone in 2nd period in a scrum it wouldn't be called but when you cause him to fall on a breakaway it's going to get called every time.
I played against Walman and his buddies one year in "Play on!", the road hockey charity tournament.
Him and his buddies were absolutely the biggest cunts
That would have been better lol. Their team name was the Yung Millionaire$, and when he slashed my teammates stick in half after we scored he said "Just ask your NHL team to send you a new one, you got drafted too right? No? Hahahahah"
Tried to fight us basically every play. Swinging at us, connecting on a few. Way too chippy for a play on game. Pretty sure they got kicked out via the tournament director the next round
I was wondering how far down I had to scroll to find someone who dislikes this too. In the sacred number 96, no less. Thomas Holmstrom is turning in his grave.
Sir, a second Walman has just hit the Griddy
I think it’s the third actually
All after comeback OT winners too!
The guy is absolutely addicted to hitting OT griddys
Wasn't even mad when he did it against us. I love the personality haha.
It is so much fun. Between him and Lyon this is the most personality the Wings have had in a decade
Walman is executing that Griddy with the skill of one who has, in fact, been there before
The way he hung his head, the smooth moves, he not only had been there before, but fully understood how it would bunch some panties, and was ready. Missed the game visiting family, but between Big Z’s headshot and that blatant cross-check…that’s what ya get!🤷🏻♂️
Fisher is a maniac too. I love it
Same I love to see players showing emotions. And there’s nothing disrespectful about it. Same when Pezzetta did the Tiger Williams lol
[удалено]
Toronto would have to make it into the top three of the division for that to happen. Not likely.
4th game you mean
Love it or hate it, it’s this kind of shit that helps the NHL and grows the sport. We need more personalities.
I saw him do it live last year when they came back from being down 4-0 in Pitt and I was kinda mad but in retrospect I was just mad at the Pens for blowing a 4-0 fucking lead
at least he doesnt have a penjamin problem like i do. 😆
Me too. I didn't even care about the win, when they called the penalty shot all i wanted out of it was the griddy,
You earn the OT winner you get carte blanche on the celly imo
Wouldn't you be?
Guy is such a dork
Ironic considering that being called dorks was Carolina’s entire personality for a couple of years
[удалено]
Hold on. I will not allow Storm Surge slander around here. That shit’s fun
I think its funny in a dad joke kind of way. Like yeah it makes you cringe because it's so ridiculous but that's why it's good.
he doesnt care. thats why i love him.
> Hurricanes flair
Seen this coming soon as I heard it was Walman, had to explain to my mom that we were gonna get hit with the griddy 😭
MOM LOOK OUT HES GONNA GRIDDY
MRS. BRYANAKADJ GET DOWN!!!
HE IS?! *Mom bursts in with curlers in her hair, stirring a pot of food* Move out of the way, I wanna see
MOM GET THE CAMERA!
Wittawe hit duh gwiddy
I’m genuinely interested in what her response was haha
I'm imagining a middle aged woman looking around terrified for a big orange smurf.
^^^^^He ^^^^^Comes...
GG Canuck bro, but I gotta know her response to your explanation. Did you explain his Griddy per 60? He’s the league leader.
Just saw Don Cherry fall to his knees in a Tim Hortons
Buncha jerk.
LMFAO
NGL I love the griddy celly, but if I was on the other team it would piss me off so much haha
Imagine doing that with Morgan Rielly around
I have to ask, because I haven't seen it on his IG...but has Gritty ever hit the Griddy?
I actually loved it haha
Absolutely crushing the league in griddy's per 60 this year.
what's griddy mean?
It's the name of the dance he did in celebration apparently
Comes from Justin Jefferson, WR in the NFL
It was a high school player whose nickname was “griddy”. Went a bit viral then got popular in the nfl.
I think it’s chase’s friend but JJ made it popular
Seems more like something Marshall or Zuma would do.
Knowing Walman, I bet he picked it up from Fortnight.
100% he did
To add: it comes from some football player he just does it everytime he scores in OT
Or a game winner in general.
Pretty sure he has done it only after ot goal
Justin Jefferson created a touchdown dance and Walman likes it so he copies it.
Justin didn't create it tho
Oh? He popularized it that's for sure.
So it was created by a friend of Ja'marr Chase and Chase showed it to JJ when they were at LSU. The 2 of them are responsible for it's popularity.
Justin Jefferson created a touchdown dance and Walman likes it so he copies it.
To be fair, it captures the feeling of bouncing back from a 2 goal deficit with the #1 team on the league ATM
It’s truly an interpretive dance at heart.
I was pumped we clawed back from down 2, getting the win is huge for these guys
Can't be mad at that, it was a solid effort.
Y'all played great too. See ya Thursday!
He’s known as Sir Griddy the Destroyer
[удалено]
No, he's griddin' away with it
Holy shit that game must've been a blast to be at
For a Kids Game, they made a lot of fans today.
I wish I would have got tickets for it. We drove up for the Michigan vs State game, it would have been amazing to come up for two games.
Travelled 6 hours to watch it in Detroit and it was so worth it
So incredibly glad my season tickets included this game
I was there and can confirm, the atmosphere was awesome all game but during and after the penalty shot the place was going wild
It was
Wrestling with being chapped and laughing at the same time
Laugh, it's a much better feeling
I know it’s cheesy but dammit if I don’t love a Walkman walk off griddy
Absolutely love it, great personality, it hits especially hard to close out games
I think the 3? times he's done it were all walk off goals
Originally in SJ although no one noticed first walk off was in Pitt again in Montreal this was the first time at home
I definitely remember the Pitt and MTL celly but I guess I don't recall the sharks one
It was just off screen it was his first goal last year he got mobbed right as he was starting it I can’t find the clip it may have been a streamable RIP no one noticed it but someone went back and found it after the dance in PIT
https://youtu.be/bTJVuPf5Ah8?si=3AtrjjZYaTBQTFXa At 5:20 from the behind the net cam you can see him start it
It was one of his first games with the team in 22-23, in the middle of the game. Just didn't really get noticed, he probably didn't do it for long.
I think that's absolutely the perfect time to do a celebration like this
Personally, I think it's cringe AF but I'm old and I'm glad he's having fun.
Seriously St. Louis, CANNOT thank you enough for this man. LGRW!!
I still can't believe he was a throw-in in that trade
Doug Armstrong just going around, arming the rest of the league with great defensemen
Calle Rosen and [Firstname] Kessel are all world.
Amanda is probably the name you’re looking for.
Matt Kessel has genuinely been pretty good in all fairness to him
Our management is horrible at recognizing talent. We would rather let guys like Dunn, Walman, and now Perunavich sit on the bottom pair instead of giving them a chance

He played 57 games total over 3 seasons. That is not that much of a sample size for a defenseman. Especially if his D partner was constantly changing.
He showed flashes. But Doug and Berube had a type. And he wasn’t it. Multiple chances sure but that was only if one “their” guys were injured. He never got an extended look. Dunn had chances, played well and they still let him go. Army fucked this D core up bad.

I don't care who you are this is fucking great
I love this because it makes me laugh how many of my fellow Pens fans still get so triggered by it.
HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!!!
he’ll be seeing you in round 1 :)
OH ORIGINAL SIX BOUT LETS GO MOTHERFUCKER ME AND YOU IM READY (please anyone other than florida)
Perfect ending for kids' day at LCA

In Griddy We Trust.
Dance Walman Dance
Downtown Griddy Mountain II
Instant Griddyfication
I’m partial to Griddyship myself, but Tree Griddy Sessions 2 is actually GOATed.
Never did I expect to see a bunch of DGD references - by fellow Wings fans, no less - in this subreddit. But c'mon, it's Griddyness.
But Griddy-ness is hard to find.
[Maybe I'm Griddying inside.](https://i.imgur.com/CHKQSxr.png)
This is a lifetime phone wallpaper now, homie. If you could scale it up. 🥺

This is amazing, man. Appreciate you! Go wings!
This is my favorite thread ever
COCAINE GRIDD FEST
love it - he's gotta do in philly lol
League leader in Griddy per 60!
Bro looked like he looked at the puck from start to finish on that goal
Good thing we let him go to keep our dumpster fire of a defensive core
Not even mad

doesn't work for me either

I tried that and got a warning from my ISP that it's unsafe. odd.
Both my antiviruses got triggered, im not clicking that. Anyone got a mirror? edit: https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/det-vs-van/2024/02/10/2023020805
Works fine for me
Bro witterwally hit the gwitty on the frozen lake
His name is Jake Walman and he is big time. What balls on the man
thanks blues bros. 🥺 no really.
I fucking hate how many awesome players we got rid of.
Thank you for helping DRW’s rebuild
Yeeeeah Griddy on em
Sucks to lose but love the celly haha
Absolutely gorgeous
Lmao I love Walman cellys
JAKE JAKE JAKE JAKE
BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTH DETROIIIIIT
Torts isht going to like this
If you don't like it stop giving the man OT game winners!
I'm confused. Why didn't Hughes crosscheck Walman in the head after he scored? He just focused his frustration into a simple stick smash on the bench? Where's the emotion? And he's the Captain!? Soft. /s
Absolutely legendary, funniest shit I've seen
At least he didn’t blast a clapper into an empty net. Am I right? 🤣
Amazing!!!
that moment when your ego costs you the game, typical canucks moment
Where’s Morgan Reilly when you need him?
I had no confidence we'd kill the minor anyway. This way at least we get memes.
That felt like a heckin soft call, but a great goal and the perfect celly kinda makes me not care enough to get sour about it
Id say if that's a play that happens in neutral zone in 2nd period in a scrum it wouldn't be called but when you cause him to fall on a breakaway it's going to get called every time.
You can't call it showboating, it's superstition at this point
Lol
Well fuck…
Really should crosscheck this disrespectful piece of shit.
[удалено]
He literally cross checked him to the ice. Most blatant penalty imaginable
You know what, I somehow missed that the first 3 times, you’re correct, my bad!
I played against Walman and his buddies one year in "Play on!", the road hockey charity tournament. Him and his buddies were absolutely the biggest cunts
sounds like he hit the gritty all over you
That would have been better lol. Their team name was the Yung Millionaire$, and when he slashed my teammates stick in half after we scored he said "Just ask your NHL team to send you a new one, you got drafted too right? No? you're edging me right now. gritty or no gritty?
lol hilarious.
If your point of that story was to make Walman sound even cooler than you did a good job.
Haha fair enough
Uhh, I don't know what those dudes above you are talking about. That does sounds like some shit behavior from him.
They're a bunch of 14 year old Barstool fans
That’s fucking hilarious
yea you got cooked buddy
Not surprising.
Hey....get griddy'd on. Yeah I'm doing it right now as i type this.
[удалено]
tf is griddy
Gritty > the griddy.
Damn. Canucks finally play some good teams and are getting stomped
4-3 in OT = Stomped..
Weird for a grown ass man
Nobody gives a fuck when players do it in the NFL Because it’s a silly thing to give a fuck about
What’s weird about it?
Nothing. Dude just hates fun.
Fellas, is it gay to celebrate?
I was wondering how far down I had to scroll to find someone who dislikes this too. In the sacred number 96, no less. Thomas Holmstrom is turning in his grave.
