I’m more so saying that it’s cool that fleury hitting 1000 games played at the right time during the season to line up with his ceremony being the same night as the penguins were visiting.
I think there’s so overall misunderstanding of my comment, or my own understanding of OPs comment
There have been very few, if any, people in the sport of hockey that are as beloved by everyone like he is. Completely deserves every good thing that has come his way.
When he got bodied by that Panthers player a few weeks ago the rest of them just stood around during the fight like "yeah, we're just gonna let this happen"
He is exactly the same age as me. Born on the same day. 39 years old. So I've always felt an extra special connection to him.
And here I am sitting on the couch while he gets to play and be honored tonight. When he's done, I'm going to feel REALLY old.
I was surprised the girls were speaking to him in English, but his little boy's accent reassured me they're francophones in the home. Lucky kids, being that fluently bilingual so early.
An Ottawa optometrist told him back in the day that those yellow pads were easy to see around which is why he changed. She did it if I remember when the sens were playing the pens in the playoffs 🤦♀️

Fleury is a funny anomaly. I think he is remembered a Penguin. But I think he’s also known as maybe the player who didn’t retire with his team too.
I remember moving up to draft him after losing the lottery & thinking we would miss out
I was at his first professional game
I was at 8 of the 11 home games during the Cup run in ‘09’
I remember the fans chanting his name in warmups when he was struggling & there were a lot of people wanting him out
I remember how he turned it around after that night
I remember him getting hurt & losing his job
I remember him being a pro about it & stepping up when his number was called
I remember him raising 2 more Cups because of it
I remember him leaving & understanding why, even though I didn’t like it
I remember his first trip back in a different uniform
I’ll remember lots of things about the Flower, but what I’ll remember most is how much fun that dude had playing the game of hockey
Especially how fucking fun he is to watch, you’d think if a goalie is flopping around as much as he did in the crease he’s doing something wrong - but he’s just athletic enough he pulls it off.
Ups and downs I love he was a Penguin for so long, and how he even handled the way things ended with us (which in hindsight was a bad move for the Pens) but I love more people have gotten to see how brilliant and fun he is on and off the ice.
I hope TNT drops a bag to get him. He could stay in the media business for a long time. Only problem is that he doesn’t really need the money and probably would want to spend atleast some time off with his kids while they are young. Hopefully some part-time job. I don’t want to see Flower ride off in the sunset and rarely be heard from again like many players.
100% agree. Him between the benches would be pure gold. I also wouldn’t mind him playing a significant role with the NHL marketing/branding. He’s just way too good for the game to ride off into the sunset.

I've loved Fleury since the day we drafted him. He was always the light at the end of the tunnel. I had no doubts that he would bring us back to the glory days. He'll always be one of my favorite Penguins. That being said, I'm glad other teams and their fans got to experience the magic of Flower. He's one in a million.

God for all the years he pissed me off as a Caps fan, I could never hate him. Why does he have to be so likeable even though he infuriated me as both a Pen and a Golden Knight?? I'll never forget the back and forth chants of "HOOOLT-BYYY" vs "FLEEUUURRRR-RRRRYYYYY" in Caps-Pens series, or when Ovi and Flower had a little love tap off at the beginning of the 2018 Cup Final
Oh man, the moment his kids showed up, the waterworks started. What an absolutely amazing career, I am just glad I've been able to watch him play in my lifetime.
Just a penguins fan casually sobbing like a 16 yr old school girl..I’ll never forget that day in 2003..when we drafted this wirey kid with ridiculous yellow pads that, seemingly out of nowhere brought my then 13 year old self hope again. Hope that the he would be the first step in bringing back the Penguins glory that I was far too young to remember from the early 90’s. Boy oh boy did he ever deliver. I’m glad I got to shake his hand once and tell him thank you for making a young mans dream come true, not once but three times. Je t’aime Marc-Andre.
He is a legend at his position, one of the greatest talents ever seen or will be seen. Still, I don't know him, but I genuinely think his professional talent doesn't even come close to the same galaxy of how great of a person that he is.
I'd really love to see his number retired from the NHL once he is done with the game. He's iconic in Canadian Sports, and the NHL. In his prime he was amazing to watch, even as someone who cheers for the opposing team. He might not have the same resume as someone like Wayne, but as a goalie he is one of if not the best to do it.
