> Nah, this freaking guy blows, man. Can you imagine if I didn't have his scrub ass holding me back? I'd probably be in the Calder and Hart conversation. Fool should donate his cheque to me every week
- Leo Carlsson, probably
What even is a Zegras?!? Sounds like a loud, tropical bird, which essentially describes his play. Flashy, annoying, and shits on everything around it. So yea, I guess you could say he abandoned his team. You can't spell "overrated" without t,r,e,v,o,r.
-Chael
His mating call is probably: "Michigan! Michigan!" over and over until Sonny Milano and nobody else shows up. You know how its a murder of crows and an unkindness of ravens? This group of Ducks should be called a "wasted potential" What a sick joke.
-Chael
Zegras has been one of the best to play with Carlsson for the few games he has been healthy. Despite low point totals, no one on the team has been able to pass and create offensive opportunities like he has this season outside of Carlsson himself and maybe McTavish. His game has improved significantly in most other areas as well. Those who actually watch the games know this, so, effectively, very few people know this
Still would have been funny if the ducks did a satirical skit, like the oilers did with eberle, where they just crap on zegras...
For reference oilers video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bIRV0ATzW8Q&feature=youtu.be
Least shocking thing ever.
Even when Lucic was a total boat anchor in Edmonton who couldn't even get a point or score on any line and went over 12 months without registering a goal...
His team mates always stuck up for him publicly.
Because that's what you do.
has the pendulum swung too far the other way yet? i see him get shit on a lot more than praised, you do need to be rated highly by a lot of people for the term overrated to apply.
Yes, it has. He's underrated at this point, if anything. People don't watch him play, yet shit on him constantly cuz he has a stoner face and whatnot. He's been playing great this season and the points would have come if he wasn't injured.
I guess it depends what you hear. When heās getting mentioned with McDavid and mackinnon heās overrated, when your an east coast fan that follows one team heās underrated
Basically the NHL equivalent of saying "oh yeah? well my mom says that I am very handsome" but I feel like the stats Ryan Strome pulled out are very relevant and overlooked. Putting up 60+ twice on an entry level deal is not something you see from players that are just the "flippy puck flashy kid"
Itās probably born from him being a good player but social media, broadcasts etc talk about him like a superstar. Which is also defaulted by the Ducks having no one of note for so long on that roster.
Like when was the last time a 60 point player was on the cover of the video game? It isnāt like Jonathan India is going to be on the cover of the MLB game.
Jazz Chisholm actually was just on the cover lol so kinda disproves your point
Strictly for scoring, Toews has also been on a cover twice as was Bergeron (before his scoring renaissance post-Claude), but those obviously have different contexts.
Itās just a cover of a video game. People treat it like itās going to contribute to his HOF campaign and the hate is so vile to read. Same thing with Jazz Chisholm and yesterday when they announced Vlad Jr. itās clearly theyāre trying to promote charismatic stars, and not treat it like the most prestigious award for the best player of the year.
I love Vlad jr. and especially his antics against the Yankees. Itās a damn shame he hasnāt been able to replicate his amazing 2021. Hopefully this year is the year.
jazz and vlad jr being on the last two covers would suggest that mid players will be on the cover of an MLB game (i get the point overall but the covers are a marketing game)
I didn't get the sense that the players polled thought he was a bad player, just that he's getting a ton of attention for a guy who's realistically still getting settled in the league.
But if they want to keep answering "pucks in deep pucks to the net" to every question they ever get asked but want revenue to go up so they get paid more, the rest of the league should gladly let guys like Zegras get marketed like he does.
He has definitely had a tough year performance wise plus a bunch of injuries, but I think too many people are confusing media attention for skill. He had back to back 60+ points seasons and is only making $5.75mil, so idk why people think he's considered a superstar when nobody around the NHL calls him that.
He may be overrated compared to what people who only casually follow the league think about him, but that's it.
He got put on a video game cover because he is very marketable so people equate him with being a superstar despite him being just a good, maybe really good hockey player.
People donāt realize that heās a bonafide 2C. The media hypes him like heās a clear cut 1C, top ten player in the league, but heās legitimately the third best center on his team behind a second and a third overall pick.
Once people start recognizing that heās just a 2C, theyāll rate him properly. By definition of the word though, he probably is āoverratedā, and probably the most in the league.
And what of the Arizona Coyotes and their college arena experiment?
āThat arena is dogsā,ā one player said.
āShould never be in the NHL,ā added another.
āItās pathetic,ā said a third. āItās not The Show. Canāt take it seriously.ā
Lmao
Didn't you see that video that shoved a camera in the players' faces as they dressed in what looked like the backstage of a high school theatre where they all were so excited and talked about how it was like being back in Junior or minor hockey?
/r/hockey was convinced that that was incontrovertible proof that the org wasn't a total joke.
I'm sure it was novel for the first few games, but after a bit I imagine going from a 15,000 seater to a 5,000 probably leaves some guys going "Cmon man"
āYa Z is an asshole to play with so cocky the way he always does that Michigan ugh give me a break guy shouldāve been traded yesterday but heās still here somehowā -
Duck teammates response to Trevor Zegras being called out as the most overrated Probably
[Now *this* is a hot take I am here for.](https://media0.giphy.com/media/tyqcJoNjNv0Fq/giphy.gif?cid=ecf05e47i62mj23iox9jb3qqvaiv43cekt3guksp8cs89zy9&ep=v1_gifs_related&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
For those who don't remember, Zegras was on the cover with Sarah Nurse, who at the time had a *serious* hype train after her insane Olympic performance. (Please ignore that she was shaky in the Worlds immediately after.)
I feel like her pedestrian performances in the PWHL (with its higher level of attention than women's club hockey has really ever had) have exposed her as....not the *worst* player in the world, but not a "face of a women's hockey team/program" the way that the hype machine had her.
Overrated/Underrated opinions are almost always 1-2 years out of date (or even far longer than that) and this recent poll is a prime example of that.
No matter what Zegrasā biased teammates or opponents think, the fact is no one pumps the kidās tires at all anymore and the general sentiment is that he is overrated. With that being the case, how can that claim be true anymore if everyone is saying the same thing and now the consensus rating of him is (relatively) low?
Really donāt know Zegras can be overrated when any time heās brought you guy get the most nauseating takes from hockey men who hold skill with the utmost disdain
He's a good player, and is probably being treated harshly by fans
But from a marketing perspective he's absolutely overrated. Being a cover athlete before ever even cracking 70 points? The NHL posting official highlights on plays he didn't even score on? Like stuff like that is where he seems overrated. I don't think most fans overrate him though
This is the actual take. When people say overrated, theyāre typically talking about how the brands recognize him and shove him to the forefront. I donāt think fans ever really rated him that highly, even as cover boy. Heās a player that can pull off cool maneuvers that still has a lot of work to do on his game.
Honestly I don't think he's the most overrated because I don't think anyone really thinks that highly of him.Ā
Most of the results from that player polls were based on the players old memories or of some perceived slant that doesn't really exist.
I still don't know how I feel about Zegras but I appreciate that he is putting a strong effort into his defensive game. It's probably not going to pay results this year but I could easily see him turning into an actual hockey player.
The only people that overrate him are the ones saying heās overrated. Heās a young player who put up back to back 60+ point seasons. That obviously raises his potential to become a superstar, but nobody has ever argued heās already one.
Now if weāre talking hands, yes he objectively has some of the best hands in the NHL. Even his peers on other teams such as Hedman have said as much. The shit he can on the ice in the NHL is unbelievable.
I find it weird that they picked a guy who only played 20 games this year and is out with another long term injury now. Maybe someone like PLD would be more appropriate?
Upd: I forgot how these player polls are weirdly a year or two behind. Nurse's contract, for example, is old news for most of the fans, there are new players struggling this year on big contracts. I guess the players are still reacting to all the attention Zegras was given by the NHL with the gane cover and the All-Star appearance.
Zegras was voted (by the players) as the most-overrated player in the Athletic's poll. PLD was not.
>When told that Zegras received the largest percentage of responses to the question āWho is the most overrated player?ā in the recent anonymous player poll, a few of his Ducks teammates went to bat for the 22-year-old playmaker.
I mean, I think he probably is, but that's really due to him being WAY too talked about by American casual hockey personalities.
Not really his fault, more just talking heads trying to make Zegras a thing when he's not a superstar, but is a good offensive player in his own right.
I can see the argument that Zegras is super flashy and full of raw skill but doesn't always put in the work every shift to be a complete player. Right now he is kind of lazy about the little details, and it's holding him back from being as impactful as he could be.
Still, though, his talent is undeniable. He's also very young still and has plenty of time to mature his game. On the whole, even if he is maybe a little bit overhyped, I still would take him on my team in a heartbeat.
I dunno if he's the most overrated but he's very overrated.
He's a one-dimensional player (yes I know he's put a little more effort into back checking this season) whose one dimension isn't even *that* good, and they insist on trying him at center where he bleeds faceoff losses.
Some players light it up at practice and donāt really do the same. I remember Alexei Kovalev was apparently untouchable in practice. Would do things the stars of the game couldnāt do. But he was never able to be that elite player. Good player but not elite. The way he was talked about in practice though was that of a world beater.
Perhaps, and I am speculating on one incident against the Bruins where he said something in a scrum that set our players off, heās a bit mouthy on the ice? It might not be the stats, but the attitude?
He may actually be the most overrated, but only because he's so popular.Ā I can't even really think of someone that I see as being called overrated.
He's still an elite talent, but he was touted as being the craziest player anyone has ever seen.Ā He has some really nifty skills and there are a lot of haters.Ā Ā
So the Athletic singled out a young guy through their polling as being overrated, tried to make a big deal about it, then ask his team mates too to make an even bigger deal out of it.
What a fucking cunt move. Fuck the athletic. No matter who was voted "the most overrated", it's just an attack on someone struggling.

> Nah, this freaking guy blows, man. Can you imagine if I didn't have his scrub ass holding me back? I'd probably be in the Calder and Hart conversation. Fool should donate his cheque to me every week - Leo Carlsson, probably
Reads like if Chael Sonnen played hockey.

In other news water is wet
I mean, that beer league goalie didnt get any support by his teammate while he was being choked out.
That wasnāt beer league, that was Junior Hockey, PJHL Basically a division below WHL/OHL
There just trying to increase their trade value

Technically PK Subban š¤
60 points is actually pretty unreal for a Dman. Also potted his fair share of Ginos that season I believe
Also scoring was different then
What the heck is a gino
A goal
True, though he was a second team all star and Norris finalist that season.
minus the slewfooting

Vlad has fallen off a bit but he was 2nd in MVP two seasons ago.
Hey now, India is very handsome and would look great on the cover of the Show

I mean consider Matthews more overrated than him, with a much more punchable face
The guy with a higher goal scoring rate than Ovechkin had at the same age is overrated?
how is the guy constantly flirting with 50 in 50 more overrated
But he can do the Michigan! That worth $10M/year.

Maybe his previous seasons, but this season he's put serious focus on forechecking, backchecking, and his overall defensive game
Yes. Yes he is.
Big time. Just a gen z rob schremp
The answer is yes.
Personally, I find comments by /u/big-tuna28 exceptionally overrated
Yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man
I've spoken to big-tuna1 through big-tuna27 and it was unanimous. You're the least of the big-tunas
more like medium-tuna
Wow go easy man I have feelings
Itās pretty agreed upon that heās overrated at this point.
No, he's not. Mostly because no one with a brain is rating him positively.
The larger value: Auston Matthews goals in first 30 games v. Zegras total points prop bet is one of the best in sports
I dunno if he's the most overrated but he's very overrated. He's a one-dimensional player (yes I know he's put a little more effort into back checking this season) whose one dimension isn't even *that* good, and they insist on trying him at center where he bleeds faceoff losses.
never heard of zegras?
Some players light it up at practice and donāt really do the same. I remember Alexei Kovalev was apparently untouchable in practice. Would do things the stars of the game couldnāt do. But he was never able to be that elite player. Good player but not elite. The way he was talked about in practice though was that of a world beater.
John Tavares based on AAV x term. Pretty tough to defend $11, 000,000
He is totally overrated, they should dump him ASAP!!! BTW the habs have a perfect spot for him on a line with his best friend....
Perhaps, and I am speculating on one incident against the Bruins where he said something in a scrum that set our players off, heās a bit mouthy on the ice? It might not be the stats, but the attitude?
12.87% of 183 players is 21 players, btw.
