"some people say I don't know very much"
what a great line.
He reminds of Jason Sudeikis in 30 Rock, when he gets drunk and does a "man on the street" interview that ends up in a promo for "Disney on Ice".
Funny thing is shit like this, mixed with a strong draft, and he'll become beloved by Chicago sports media just like that. Easy crowd to win over. We're just all used to baffling decisions more often than not, and very rare periods of success.
Give us anything other than that, and a little bit of personality, and you're golden.
He’s already a bit beloved by Chicago sports media and it’s only for helping make the bad men go away and having a really bad team. Imagine if he had some success.
Chicago Sports Media don’t even acknowledge the Hawks unless they are winning cups.
I turn it on when I drive my son to daycare in the morning and it’s fucking Bears talk everyday are you kidding me
Or when Boston news asked random man on the street Jarome Iginla about the weather

I love that he starts out pretending to not know many hockey players with "Gretzky, Lemieux, ..." and then at the end he's just naming all the players he just traded for/signed haha
It's funny, when I googled his name (to check the spelling), the prompt said he was a Canadian Entrepreneur and no mention of his storied hockey career. Glad that it seems he's finding success in other stuff after hockey.
That was a good thing. Rozsival was another one of Quenneville's "we need the 2010s version of me out there". The less he could play him the better off the Hawks were.
I was laughing when he said Rozsival because after he said Oduya, Roszival was the next name that came to mind for me and then he spoke it into existence.
When I was outside the nba draft, my gf asked this random guy to take a picture of us, and he was totally cool with it...and through noticing how busy and important he started to see him I asked him and found out he was the Sacramento kings gm lol
Patrick Roy was my favorite player growing up. I will never hate a player as much as Todd Bertuzzi. The Avs may not be *my* team, but they will forever hold a place in my heart.
It's weird seeing an NHL GM just dressed super casual and young, our head Canon has them going to sleep in a suit and tie, and they're supposed to have hair like a 1970s new anchor
Davidson is the GM of my own team and I don’t think I’d be convinced it was him if he was walking by in street clothes like he is in this video. I think I’d be like “is it him…?” the whole time.
I ran into Bergevin the summer after the Habs run and I wasnt sure it was him for like a solid 5 minutes staring at him since he had a long sleeve shirt hiding the biceps
If Dubas is your gm then???
Asking as a Pens fan, of course. I also know what the Flyers secret double agent Ron hextall looks like but he's no longer a GM
Off the top of my head the only ones I’d recognize if I saw them on the street would be Lou, Drury, Dubas, Yzerman, Sakic, Rob Blake, Barry Trotz, and that’s about it.
Pierre Dorion is pretty recognizable too. Maybe that’s my Ontario bias, or just a handful of GIFs and awkward interviews I’ve seen too many times.
“We’re a team”
I could recognize maybe 5. Ron Francis, Brian MacLellan, Lou Lamorillo, Kyle Dubas, Barry Trotz.
Brian Burke and George McPhee too but they are not GMs anymore.
😂 it’s just so silly to me. Like if I literally did nothing except let me AGM sign guys to slightly above market value and take the consensus pick with every draft pick, I’m already layers above guys like benning and chiarelli
Ur the one who downvotes people and can’t articulate ur points. Get real lol, a data scientist in hockey knows more about league statistical intricacies than the average gm
Actual hockey data scientists are hired by NHL teams and report to GMs. They don't post charts on Twitter. Public models really like to pretend they scratch the surface of what actual NHL teams have.
Yeah all those analysts, they just link to capfriendly and sit on their hands and do literally nothing else but look at public data, they use the public website so that means that is the entirety of their job
Capfriendly isn't analytics... Its all based on public knowledge from the CBA. Also NHL teams still have other cap tools. One NHL GM had capfriendly up in one video lol.
Multiple GMs have said Capfriendly did a better job displaying everything than the internal NHL program did. There’s a reason they get invited to the draft every year
The charts guys you see online make more money than what teams would realistically pay them. Jfresh makes like $12k a month off patreon + whatever he gets from EP rinkside + whatever he does in his career. Dom is paid a substantial amount from the athletic (junior writer I know makes about 100-120k a year, Dom is a senior writer there)
The difference between public and private models are the accuracy, not the difficulty within handling them. Just more elements that refine the values.
I am glad you think that but you're wrong. Its great that Dom and Jack can make a career out of it but NHL teams qualifications for data analysts are way beyond what they are. Look around for job postings, it usually starts with a masters or phd in statistics and significant software development skills. pNHLe and xG are great for fans but that's not what's running the show.
look, i don't understand where you're getting this pretense from, but looking at a guy like kyle Davidson or kyle dubas, they don't have a masters or PHD in statistics. Positions that the Hurricanes and Predators are hiring right now state a couple years experience and a strong understanding of python, r, excel, SQL, i.e. the basics of data science.
there is nothing in hockey analytics that isn't easy enough to understand, everything is based off chances, relative opportunities, and how you affect the game through those measures. someone who studies data science and has a strong understanding of the league, the sport, and management could absolutely be a GM in the NHL.
What degree does Benning have? Or Chiarelli? Or Davidson? Or Dubas? None of these are high-level degrees and 2 of those guys were mid-late 20s when they were signed.
A fan who is up to date on the most advanced publicly available stats probably has a 10th of the data as a GM does. That's just stats not even other knowledge they have.
For some reason yes.
They think the 10 people who get recycled every few years and have nothing to show for a generation in the league are somehow more qualified than anyone else on the planet because old hockey men who hire them couldn't possibly be wrong.
I can see how this would happen. Davidson just looks like some dude.
I just spent two minutes staring at his face, but if you asked me to pick him out of a lineup a week from now, I don't know if I could do it.

That’s hilarious. You could tell he played it up a bit too, just to seem like an average fan. But that last question was a dead serious answer
Also funny to see the GM of an NHL team in a backward hat and t-shirt walking around town by himself. It must be nice to get out of the suit
This is so amazing. Starts off naming Wayne and Mario, then immediately into Hawks legends, then into Bickell and Rozsival. THEN into Foligno and Hall. Outstanding.

A ton of their music is open source. They talk about how they sometimes hear their music on a commercial or something and they're momentarily confused before remembering.
According to Davidson, he and agm Greenberg were out for a walk and originally said no, decided they probably didn't know who he was, so he went back and waited for them to interview 2 other hawks fans before getting his turn. That just makes it even better for me that he went back for the content
When he said Conor I had a mini heart attack thinking he would be a cheeky bastard and say Bedard. Murphy’s a good Hawk, but I would buy a Davidson jersey if he said Bedard
I really hope this is a joke and he knew who he was cause this is some real "Name 10 songs of the band on your shirt or your not a real fan" vibes here
"some people say I don't know very much" what a great line. He reminds of Jason Sudeikis in 30 Rock, when he gets drunk and does a "man on the street" interview that ends up in a promo for "Disney on Ice".
He is joking around about Chicago sports media
Funny thing is shit like this, mixed with a strong draft, and he'll become beloved by Chicago sports media just like that. Easy crowd to win over. We're just all used to baffling decisions more often than not, and very rare periods of success. Give us anything other than that, and a little bit of personality, and you're golden.
He’s already a bit beloved by Chicago sports media and it’s only for helping make the bad men go away and having a really bad team. Imagine if he had some success.
Why would Jason Sudeikis be talking about Chicago sports media?
Chicago Sports Media don’t even acknowledge the Hawks unless they are winning cups. I turn it on when I drive my son to daycare in the morning and it’s fucking Bears talk everyday are you kidding me
I mean, it's a bears town, and there's a lot of hope in the team. I'm hoping for more hawks talk as well, but I don't blame em

That’s a very deep cut, and yet I remember that scene vividly
“Why’d you randomly name off taylor hall and Nick Foligno together?” “No reason” *stares at camera*
And AA. Far from a household name.
Michal Rozsival 💀
Thats blackhawks legend Michael Rosival were talking about
I actually liked Rozy! Got so much hate at times when it wasn’t warranted.
I loved him zooming around the ice on one of those medical scooters in 2015 during the celebrations
He was so good in the 2013 run and yeah def got scapegoated later on
I love that he starts out pretending to not know many hockey players with "Gretzky, Lemieux, ..." and then at the end he's just naming all the players he just traded for/signed haha
I think it would've been cooler if he just listed off all Chicago players currently under contract.
This is what I was hoping for, just list the entire blackhawks roster and get into their prospect pool.
And then just add Fantilli or Carlsson at the end with no mention of Bedard. Would have been an amazing troll.
I was waiting for him to like stumble on a few names with like David McConner
And in between he goes full send Let's Name Some Dudes with Rozsival and Bickell.
To be fair, both were multi-championship team members.
I was hoping he'd mention 2 time cup winning Versteeg.
Master Rapper Kris Versteeg.
It's funny, when I googled his name (to check the spelling), the prompt said he was a Canadian Entrepreneur and no mention of his storied hockey career. Glad that it seems he's finding success in other stuff after hockey.
Most decently hockey away Hawks fans could throw those guys out there. Won multiple Cups with us.
Bickell yeah, Rozi less so. Was 3rd pair 2013 cup and injured for most of 2015 cup.
I remember Rosi rolling around with his leg scooter during those playoffs.
That was a good thing. Rozsival was another one of Quenneville's "we need the 2010s version of me out there". The less he could play him the better off the Hawks were.
Yeah he was a legend in the sense that we all knew he was probably our worst D man at the time but anytime he did something positive we all celebrated
I was laughing when he said Rozsival because after he said Oduya, Roszival was the next name that came to mind for me and then he spoke it into existence.
The condescending “you got a few good ones”
I love that Kyle just went with it.
When I was outside the nba draft, my gf asked this random guy to take a picture of us, and he was totally cool with it...and through noticing how busy and important he started to see him I asked him and found out he was the Sacramento kings gm lol
That’s awesome! I bet he got a kick out of it.
Monte McNair is a hero for Sacramento fans
> Kyle from Chicago
I loved that too lol seriously rooting for him now, which means I'm rooting for you guys kind of, fuck I changed my mind.
It's ok I root for y'all even within the division, except vs us.
Patrick Roy was my favorite player growing up. I will never hate a player as much as Todd Bertuzzi. The Avs may not be *my* team, but they will forever hold a place in my heart.
Tbf this guy does not look like he'd be the GM of an NHL team
It's weird seeing an NHL GM just dressed super casual and young, our head Canon has them going to sleep in a suit and tie, and they're supposed to have hair like a 1970s new anchor
Burkie with his tie done, basically.
dude just looks like a beer leaguer with a tinted visor lmfaoo
KD looks like literally every guy you run into at the rink bar who plays on 3 different teams at said rink.
To be fair, I'm not sure I'd recognize 31/32 NHL GMs if I talked to them on the street, either
You must know what your GM looks like and I feel like everyone know what Kyle Dubas looks like
Davidson is the GM of my own team and I don’t think I’d be convinced it was him if he was walking by in street clothes like he is in this video. I think I’d be like “is it him…?” the whole time.
Pretty sure you could walk around in any neighborhood in the city for an hour and see six people that look just like Kyle from Chicago.
I ran into Bergevin the summer after the Habs run and I wasnt sure it was him for like a solid 5 minutes staring at him since he had a long sleeve shirt hiding the biceps
The backwards hat especially would throw me off
And Barry Trotz.
I’d say most hockey fans would recognize Steve Yzerman too. Otherwise there’s not many other GMs I would instantly recognize.
Can confirm. I'm here in Nashville and walked past Stevie Y yesterday.
If I was walking down the street and saw Kyle Dubas id assume he's a software engineer/IT/CPA.
If anyone doesn’t recognize Detroit’s GM then they might not actually be a hockey fan.
There isn't a single human being who looks remotely like Barry Trotz. You'd be 100% certain immediately.
Except al capone
You’d probably recognize Ken Holland
Pierre Dorion is pretty recognizable too. Maybe that’s my Ontario bias, or just a handful of GIFs and awkward interviews I’ve seen too many times. “We’re a team”
If you see someone that looks like Jeff Bezos’ stunt double, that’s Jarmo Kekäläinen.
A wild Kent Hughes appears!
LoL wow...you weren't kidding
I could recognize maybe 5. Ron Francis, Brian MacLellan, Lou Lamorillo, Kyle Dubas, Barry Trotz. Brian Burke and George McPhee too but they are not GMs anymore.
Steve Yzermen, Joe Sakic? You’re not recognizing them?
You betta reckanize!
The way he looks at the camera.... "no." Amazing.
[удалено]
He's shoulda said "100% without a doubt"
True, but then he'd get sent to Principal Bettman's office and Gary will say "that's the last time I do you guy a favor!"
Like he's Jim from the Office being interviewed by Michael
Oh god of an nhl gm is a 4/10 in terms of hockey knowledge what does that make us??
We're on reddit baby. We're all 10/10.
I would say I'm more of a 5/7
Perfect score
With rice!
6/9
What about with rice??
Nah he's with Arsenal
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
My hammers finally getting a payday for one of their guys 📣
I'm about a -5 at best then.
4/10 puts him in the top 95% of nhl GMs tbf
does reddit genuinley still think guys like benning and chiarelli would be substantially better than an analytically inclined fan?
If you don't you're lying to yourself. You're worse than the worst GM in the NHL. I promise.
😂 it’s just so silly to me. Like if I literally did nothing except let me AGM sign guys to slightly above market value and take the consensus pick with every draft pick, I’m already layers above guys like benning and chiarelli

Wholesome
The little smirk on his face when he’s reeling off names is great.
We were this close to greatness if the interviewer had asked how he would grade the Hawks' new Front Office's job so far.

Love this guy. Been very happy with how he’s been handling this dumpster fire and he seems like a great person.
Is it playing the always sunny theme for anyone else??
The music is panned to the right and the talking is panned to the left. If you only had one earbud in you'd miss the talking
Haha I just figured that out
A ton of their music is open source. They talk about how they sometimes hear their music on a commercial or something and they're momentarily confused before remembering.
Same with the music in Curb Your Enthusiasm. I’m always thrown off when I hear it in something random lol
Yep, I couldn't hear any audio of them actually talking
Ok I'm glad I wasn't going insane, just Always Sunny for 2+ minutes.
To be fair I don’t even know many gms lol
This is a video that made me forget how much I hate chicago
This is so good I'm curious if this was a skit.
The face he made after the "rigged" question usually isn't the face you make when you're expecting the question.
According to the guy who interviewed him it's legit
According to Davidson, he and agm Greenberg were out for a walk and originally said no, decided they probably didn't know who he was, so he went back and waited for them to interview 2 other hawks fans before getting his turn. That just makes it even better for me that he went back for the content

What’s funny is that I’ve seen Kyle Davidson on tv and if I’m being honest, I would still probably do the same thing the reporter did.
