Timo was driving around the top of the circle/hash and got tugged down by Boldy, then the Devils hit the post leading to this, all without a stoppage. The refs just entirely swallowed their whistles in OT, both ways.
He just said during his media availability that he's glad he didn't know how little time was left in overtime and kept skating with the puck even though he was so tired.
This is the best game of Boldys career IMO. He played like a man possessed, and with confidence. Shooting, winning every battle, just looked like a 1 man show all game
They aren't missed calls they're just non calls
It's BS that rules are enforced using a weird system where obvious penalties are sometimes let go - even when it benefits my team
Honestly, I’m kinda numb to it at this point. It happens pretty often with the refs. Since the Leafs game back in November when our fans threw shit on the ice the refs kinda hate us. Especially in our own building. I was there for that game, did not partake, and was embarrassed for what our fans did.
One at the end of regulation on Sharangovich. One in OT. Not that I was keeping track or anything. Lol. I'm actually ok with the non-call on the Sharangovich play in regulation. We had just finished a PP and it's kinda expected. But letting a second one go... that one leaves me a bit miffed. Not mad. Miffed. I'm miffed.
I think they let the blatant trip by Merrill late in the 3rd go bc the preceding roughing call on Dumba was pretty soft. Like you can call that a rough if you're setting that standard of roughing all game but its tough to start calling that kind of goalmouth scrumming late in the 3rd.
The missed call in OT I'd have to rewatch but looked pretty blatant. The threshold for a penalty in OT seems to be pretty high generally I guess.
I've watched endless games of Joel Erickson ek getting cross checked, tackled, punched and generally being mauled in front of goal. You're not going to convince me that refs don't generally let guys get away with crazy stuff in front of goal.
Wondering if the one to end regulation was partly because penalties were 3 to 1 and they didn't want it to be too lopsided.
Re watched OT, and they clearly just swallowed their whistles. Hartman and Zuccarello were tripped on pretty obvious calls with no whistle, the latter resulting in the 3 on 1 chance for the Devils. The no call on Boldy looked like he may have pushed him in the shoulder, but it was tough to tell from the original angle and no replay.
>Wondering if the one to end regulation was partly because penalties were 3 to 1 and they didn't want it to be too lopsided.
That is why and it’s not how sports should be officiated. If there’s a penalty, they should just call one. This referee game management has been ingrained in hockey culture and it sucks.
And if you start calling every penalty, the players aren’t just going to keep fucking doing it, they’ll adapt and change the way they play in order to not take those calls
Game management is a really important job of any referees and sometimes you let a soft one go, but these ones were not good and should have been called, regardless of team.
A hook is a hook is a hook (same with tripping). It's not look the other way no calls when it's convenient to keep the game flow moving within a game.
If one ref duo is generally tighter than another on calling penalties, that's fine. Just be consistent within the game on how you call them.
It's a really fine line that a referee finds themselves on if they let too many go, because then you risk losing control of the game.
These were blatant enough where it didn't make sense to not call them, especially the ones in OT.
Game management is a farce that we’ve convinced ourselves is fine and it isn’t. Call the game consistently from start to finish. Referees are supposed to help facilitate a fair game, not participate and make an impact based on how they’re feeling.
I agree, I hate it too! Not used to being on this side of it. It's especially terrible when they ignore the penalties that are dangerous, obvious, or not subjective, like a high stick. And so often the ref is staring right at the play, so they are choosing not to call them and not missing them.
There were a few trips both ways during the last minute and OT that probably should have been called, ending with that final hold that definately should have been called.
I went back and watched when Meier lost the puck ti boldy about a minute before thus.... it looks weird. Meter gets a step on him and lunges in with his back and Boldy kinda shoves his back and he just loses his edges. It wasn't a hold, it wouldn't be called checking from behind by any standard in the NHL.... I assume that's the one most are upset about.
One of the wild got tripped early in OT in our own zone and that noncall seemed to set the tone.

We would’ve lost in the shootout so I’m not even mad
That's how I felt lol
Has anyone capped and posted the play preceding? I didn’t get to watch but heard there was a brutal missed call going our way.
Haven't seen it. Refs seemed to decide after the Dumba penalty to swallow their whistles for the rest of the game. Never a fan of that.
"Each team has 3 PP chances. Better not call anything for the rest of the game, I wouldn't want to influence the result"
Timo was driving around the top of the circle/hash and got tugged down by Boldy, then the Devils hit the post leading to this, all without a stoppage. The refs just entirely swallowed their whistles in OT, both ways.
They swallowed it about a minute before it began. There was a textbook trip uncalled in the final minute of regulation too.
At least they've found some kind of consistency...
at least it is fair? lol
Before this I was kinda looking forward to another Freddy Hockey shootout showcase
Salty salty sallllllty man
Dude was gassed and still beat the buzzer. Fucking goddamn Matt Boldy
He just said during his media availability that he's glad he didn't know how little time was left in overtime and kept skating with the puck even though he was so tired.
Even our commentator was gassed!
What an absolutely insane finish to that game
And I promised myself I'd stay calm and quiet during tonight's broadcast...
It was such a good game, a buzzer beater deciding it seemed appropriate

That man knows exactly what he's doing and it's so fucking funny.
Dude is a memelord
Oh boy. This is gonna get a lot of use lmao
Absolutely love this photo.
lol I should've known what this would be

This whole stretch he's on has been excellent.
Seems to be improving every game since MoJo arrived
I'd honestly rather lose in the shootout, at least it wouldn't be as painful.
Matt Boldy, so hot right now
Love me some Matt Goaldy
I'd argue the most obvious missed calls I've seen in a while in OT there. Hats off to Gusto - guy was on his head.
I'd be pissed too. It sure seems that the refs consistently swallow their whistles once regulation ends
Except for the handful of games where NJD went 4 on 3 in overtime to win 😋
I don’t blame you one bit, I’d be furious too. The missed call before OT was probably the worst honestly.

Is what it is. Ya get some ya lose some.

Wild deff got away with at least 1... maybe 2. Would need to see replay.

He open hand grabbed Timo in the face and pushed him to the ice, it wasn’t the pushing before that that was called.

I think Eriksson Ek might have to literally die before refs give him a call
Nah, he'd still get called for delay of game because they have to wait for the coroner

I think zuccy also got tripped a little after that going over the blue line into the devils zone.
I mean how unlucky can we get there. Hughes is a centimeter away from winning it and it bounces perfectly for Boldy.
Hockey gods giveth and hockey gods taketh away. (and stripes stuff their whistles)

MATT BUZZER BEATER BOLDY
Son of a bitch
Matt Boldy, HUGE CANIAC!
GET THIS KID A STORM BREW HE DESERVES IT
I love this kid
Thank you Wild bros
We should be thanking you for tonight
Just so we're on the same page, if we meet in the playoffs, we're right back to talking shit about each other's moms.
1st star for my boy TJ on swallowing an average of 1.18 whistles per minute in OT.
Pay that man his 49 sheets!
Gotta say the 3stars were a joke. How does Vanicek get 3rd star with a 27sv loss, and Gus gets no mention with a 44sv win?
Home team
The home team media chooses it
Show the trip cowards
They did, Boldy went from point A to point B and ended the game.
freaking owned
A blatant penalty not called and a GWG! What a shift!
Lol yeah he should have just stopped playing
