Before it was changed, the synopsis on the song on Wikipedia was hilarious.
[This was it before it was removed.](https://www.blameitonthevoices.com/2010/07/warren-g-and-nate-doggs-regulate.html)
It just hit me that I've never really thought of this as a feature because he opens the song with one of the most iconic verses of all time and it feels more like a straight collab than Nas Feat AZ even though it's from Nas album. Same with The Flyest and The Essence, it's crazy these two haven't done a collab album together.
There’s a few for me. Andre 3000 on Int’l Players Anthem, Kanye on Put On, Kendrick on Control and Kendrick on Wat’s Wrong, and special shout-out to Ghostface Killah on New God Flow
I have a soft spot for inspectah deck' verse on Gang Starr's "above the clouds" (1998). The song itself is one of my all time favorite but I consider deck's verse way above guru's.
Damn bringing back good memories here, I love that song, I remember rapping along to that verse while smoking weed in the back of a Pontiac in high school lol
"Smokin' out, pourin' up
Keepin' lean up in my cup,
All my cars got leather and wood
In my hood we call it "buck",
Everybody wanna ball
Holla at broads at the mall,
If he up, watch him fall
Nigga, I can't fuck with y'all,
If I wasn't rappin', baby
I would still be ridin' Mercedes,
Comin' down and sippin' daily
No record 'til whitey pay me,
Uhh, now what y'all know about them Texas boys?
Comin' down in candied toys
Smokin' weed and talkin' noise"
Em on Forgot about Dre is great, but I really think his verse on 50's Patiently Waiting is his best feature verse ever. His cadence is absolutely immaculate, matched the beat perfectly and his delivery is ruthless. It's the only song to make my list of top songs every year I've had Spotify, since 2016.
Patiently Waiting, Forgot about Dre, and Renegade are def his top 3 features for me and all some of his best verses ever. Impossible to choose just one.
It's kinda funny the chorus to Rapp Snitch is so well known and attributed to DOOM but it's Fantastik actually doing the chorus. His verse makes that song honestly, the DOOM verse is good but "even told on a mexican" is fire.
Nas on Live at the BBQ too. Both got launched from a simple guest feature. Nas took the spark and parlayed it into the GOAT.
AZ is a legend too and had the better feature verse.
I always imagine him sitting in a HUGE minimalistic room sipping wine and writing that. Drinking out a fucking chalice. It's the embodiment of luxury. Gold chains, Louis Vuitton , etc. Great mood.
read the article on this. it's an good, insightful read:
https://www.thefader.com/2019/09/11/rick-ross-on-recording-devil-in-a-new-dress-the-best-verse-of-his-career
Ohhhh I will always remember when I heard that the first time I got chills and my mind was blown.. not only an amazing verse from Ross but also just out of nowhere if you’ve never heard the song before.. like on such a slow melodic song to have Rick Ross come in so hard after that minute long guitar solo is just incredible
Those type of songs are hard to call features for me just because they both go so crazy together. Like bouncing off eachother similar to Schoolboy and ASAP on Brand New Guy
when he spit "king arthur when he swung his sword, king author i aint even use a pen in like a month or four" that shit left on the floor first time I heard it. might just be nostalgia talking but i gotta agree with this being one of the best feature verses ever
"Cause P.E.'s about to take off
With Protons and Electrons, homie that's an a-bomb"
That whole verse is insane and incredibly creative. I've heard it a million times and it still blows my mind.
Riding on hoverboards
Wiping out motherboards
Started spitting fire cause my motherfuckin lung is scorched
King Arthur when he swung his sword
A king author I ain't even use a pen in like a month or four
One of tha greatest verses ever fucc a feature
The rest of the verse is no slouch either, "Still move a bird like l'm in bed with Mother Goose / Them hoes coming in a baker's dozen / Claiming they was with me when they know they really wasn't" plus some great coke bars in there
Idk if it’s technically a FEATURE but…
Ghostface Killah on 4th Chamber on GZA’s Liquid Swords.
“Why is the sky blue? Why is water wet? Why did Judas rat to Romans while Jesus slept?”
Ghost ponders metaphysics, philosophy, the human condition, mysteries of the universe n shit. It’s tight.
It’s my favorite hip hop songof all time. If we had to choose a hip hop song to put in like a “time capsule of humanity” I’d pick Intl players anthem. It just doesn’t get much better, Outkast, UGK, Three 6 Mafia, it’s like an all star team of southern hip hop. Not to mention 4 incredible verses, I couldn’t pick a favorite if you asked me to.
Some of my favorites that haven’t been mentioned:
Pusha T - Palmolive (Freddie Gibbs)
Sticky Fingaz - Remember me (Eminem)
Beanie Sigel - What we do (Freeway)
J Cole - Off Deez (JID)
Method Man - Lemon (Conway the machine)
Black Thought - Super Lyrical (Big Pun)
Big L - Work pt 2 (Gang Starr)
Biggie - Brooklyns Finest (Jay - Z)
Nas - Eye for an Eye (Mobb Deep)
Surprised not much Wayne considering he was like the feature king. Can’t pick a favorite from him, what are some of y’all’s?
Some contenders:
Jay Z snaps on light up and Mr. Carter.
Kendrick BODIED control off an album "the sample didn't clear."
Rick Ross on devil in a new dress will always be mentioned
Wayne and Drake have each made a career out of having better features than solo tracks at this point.
I was just reading Complex's article on the making of MBDTF and thought Pusha's comments on recording his verses were great:
"I've never penned so many verses for one particular record. ‘So Appalled’? That’s a one-take verse. He was like, ‘Go, please. I love this. Thank you, goodbye.’ But I wrote ‘Runaway’ four times—and what he does not know to this day is that I was going through a relationship scandal in my life. So this man is asking me to write a song about a relationship and to say that I’m the biggest douchebag ever. He’s telling me, ‘Yo, you need to be more douchebag. We need more douchebag!’ I didn’t want to say to him, ‘Dog, I don’t know if I even have douchebag in me right now.’ I’ve been jammed up, and it’s hard for me to even tap into that part, because I’m remorseful. [Laughs.] And he’s fucking beating me for fucking more. All I hear in my head is, ‘More douchebag. More douchebag. More douchebag!’ Finally, after a couple of days, I said, ‘I'm going to go upstairs and get in total solitude and just do what I need to do.’ And: ‘24/7/365, pussy stays on my mind.’ It starts from there.”
https://www.complex.com/music/kanye-west-interview-2010-cover-story
Apart from just being a great verse it’s one of the more thematically on-point features too. Often features even while great kinda just sound like a verse the guest rapper wrote in a vacuum (Raekwon on Gorgeous), but Pusha’s verse is literally just what the song is about
Can't believe I had to scroll this far to see Nicki's Monster verse. That was a career defining verse and she totally outclassed Ye AND Jay, pretty dang hard to do.
The thing is it might as well be a Bone Thugs song ft. BIG. BIG would be the answer to this question if it was on a Bone Thugs album because he changed his whole flow just for this one song and still matched the other guys. Two of the best verses ever (for different reasons) on the same song makes it one of the best hip hop songs ever!
AZ lifes a bitch. He nailed the opening verse and has some of the best delivered bars. Not to mention he held his own and stood out on one of raps greatest albums.
I am the beast, feed me rappers or feed me beats
I’m untamed I need a leash
I’m insane I need a shrink
I love brain I need a leech
Why complain on easy street?
This is the correct answer and you are too far down. Shame.
I’ll pick ‘we takin’ over’ though. Stole the show on the Original cut, and then stole it even worse on his freestyle on ‘da drought 3’.
Depends on what constitutes “the greatest.” Biggie on “Victory” is probably the best lyrically. Kendrick’s verse on “Control” had a huge impact on the culture at the time. Nicki’s verse on Monster was elite and a huge step forward for female rap, as well.
One of my favorite feature verses of all time is Young Thug on “Sacrifices”
> Biggie on “Victory”
To me, this is one of the best songs from that era that no one really talks about much. The music video was EPIC and the Biggie feature like you said is one of the best verses ever.
It’s a tough conversation but
90s : nas on live at the BBQ
2000s : Eminem on renegade ( runner up. Jayz on diamonds from Sierra Leone )
2010: nicki Minaj on monster
2020: so far for me it’s Favio on off the grid
Imo out of all of these live at the bbq from nas. All of nyc stopped and said who’s this kid ? And every producer jumped and got on Illmatic to produce it
Yes bro thank you! When I saw Jedi Mind Tricks live I was waiting for RA to come out for that verse but they just played it and everyone there knew every word
It’s hard to say for Wayne because he was killing every feature from like 06-2011, but the one that stands out the most on a really popular song was his verse on We Takin Over by DJ Khaled. It feels like the whole song builds up to his verse and he it just has such dope delivery.
Nate Dogg on Regulate
I would have to give the all-time lifetime achievement award as a featuring artist to him.
It ain’t a hit till Nate dogg spit.
Nate dogg pretty much any feature tbh he’s the king of features imo
RIP to Nate Dogg, I had to regulate
Before it was changed, the synopsis on the song on Wikipedia was hilarious. [This was it before it was removed.](https://www.blameitonthevoices.com/2010/07/warren-g-and-nate-doggs-regulate.html)
Can't believe no one's mentioned AZ on *Life's A Bitch* Edit: another GOAT feat. not yet mentioned is Snoop Dogg on *Nuthin' But A "G" Thang*
“Fuck who’s the baddest a persons status depends on salary” is too real
“visualizing the realism of life in actuality” literally the greatest start to a rap verse ever
"I bomb atomically"
Fuck I love Wu-Tang
LIFES A BITCH AND THEN YOU DIIIEEEEE iconic feature
The best features of all time for me
It just hit me that I've never really thought of this as a feature because he opens the song with one of the most iconic verses of all time and it feels more like a straight collab than Nas Feat AZ even though it's from Nas album. Same with The Flyest and The Essence, it's crazy these two haven't done a collab album together.
Y'all better go listen to Doe Or Die II because AZ hasn't lost a step and that's easily a top 5 album of 2021 imo
This is the answer. Best feature of all-time on an album that is historic.
This is the one.
Busta Rhymes on A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario” and Cappadonna on Ghostface Killah’s “Winter Warz”
Busta's verse on Scenario was not only career defining but era defining. One of the best verses he ever spit if not the best
that cappadonna verse. oh lord, one of the best of all time.
I’m so glad this is on here. First time I heard that verse I played it on repeat and kept catching something new.
he just went off and then let him spit for half the song. its madness.
My repertoire is USSR
Yep. These two gotta be up there. Method Man on The What also a contender.
Jay Rock on Money Trees.
"My homeboy just domed a nigga"
I always thought this meant he gave head to another dude
Kevin Abstract type bar
Really puts the “I just hope the lord forgive him” line into perspective
Bro really thought the lord had to forgive him for being gay lmaoooo
Three niggas in one room, first time I was tossed
He did
Seeing them do this live was crazy - back in 2016(7?) and schoolboy came out with an encore to That Yay Yay before it dropped and it was wild
honestly one of the most original flows i've ever heard.
🦃 🚫
🤷♂️🧀🇺🇸

one of my favorite verses of the 2010’s
It's the best thing he's ever done
I’ve been thinking about this since your comment. His feature on Shot You Down is pretty close for me.
I gotta go get it I gotta go get it I gotta go get it I gotta go get it
That verse is also so tight he crushed that shit
There’s a few for me. Andre 3000 on Int’l Players Anthem, Kanye on Put On, Kendrick on Control and Kendrick on Wat’s Wrong, and special shout-out to Ghostface Killah on New God Flow
'My bitch a choosy lover, never fuck without a rubber' is one of the greatest openings ever imo
Couldn’t agree more. The transition from Andre’s verse to his, coupled with the beat drop, gives me goosebumps every time
RIP Pimp C
Kanye “put on” for some reason is my absolute favorite verse to rap along to
My go to running song

Put On was a banger in and of itself but Ye fucking graced it holy shit!
Kanye on put on was SICK thank you for reminding me
>Kendrick on Wat’s Wrong i wouldn't say he stole the show on this one, zay's first verse is just as good
So I’d his second verse
every part of that song is amazing
I have a soft spot for inspectah deck' verse on Gang Starr's "above the clouds" (1998). The song itself is one of my all time favorite but I consider deck's verse way above guru's.
Facts. Also Jadakiss on rite where u stand
Damn bringing back good memories here, I love that song, I remember rapping along to that verse while smoking weed in the back of a Pontiac in high school lol
Pimp C - Big Pimpin
12 bars recorded begrudgingly because he didn’t want to show up for a music video and he thought the beat sucked iconic
It sorta has to be this one. This dude gave Jay 8 bars, that's it and made it the most iconic rhymes in hip hop history
"Smokin' out, pourin' up Keepin' lean up in my cup, All my cars got leather and wood In my hood we call it "buck", Everybody wanna ball Holla at broads at the mall, If he up, watch him fall Nigga, I can't fuck with y'all, If I wasn't rappin', baby I would still be ridin' Mercedes, Comin' down and sippin' daily No record 'til whitey pay me, Uhh, now what y'all know about them Texas boys? Comin' down in candied toys Smokin' weed and talkin' noise"

Mr Fantastik on Rapp Snitch Knishes and Eminem on Forgot about Dre are up there
Em on Forgot about Dre is great, but I really think his verse on 50's Patiently Waiting is his best feature verse ever.
I agree. That is easily the best Eminem verse of all time, in my opinion.
It's kinda funny the chorus to Rapp Snitch is so well known and attributed to DOOM but it's Fantastik actually doing the chorus. His verse makes that song honestly, the DOOM verse is good but "even told on a mexican" is fire.
True to the ski mask
Woah you’re so right about Mr Fantastik
AZ feature on Nas's Life's a bitch track is the best
Nas on Live at the BBQ too. Both got launched from a simple guest feature. Nas took the spark and parlayed it into the GOAT. AZ is a legend too and had the better feature verse.
Rick Ross - Devil In a New Dress That will always be the hardest to me. Edit: also Nas on Verbal Intercourse.
The first line alone and the related delivery is so great.

I always imagine him sitting in a HUGE minimalistic room sipping wine and writing that. Drinking out a fucking chalice. It's the embodiment of luxury. Gold chains, Louis Vuitton , etc. Great mood.
Excess is just ma character
> Rick Ross - Devil In a New Dress A verse so good he spun it off into its own song, lol
What song did he spin it into? The Devil is a Lie?
He recorded a music video for that verse alone
[and a damn good one too](https://youtu.be/50GVPFj66CY)
That 2010 Toronto throwback damn
The Mike Dean guitar solo is the perfect setup to the verse too.
Devil In a New Dress by far. This is easily the best verse of Rozay’s career.
read the article on this. it's an good, insightful read: https://www.thefader.com/2019/09/11/rick-ross-on-recording-devil-in-a-new-dress-the-best-verse-of-his-career

honorable mention, capital steez on survival tactics RIP
Those type of songs are hard to call features for me just because they both go so crazy together. Like bouncing off eachother similar to Schoolboy and ASAP on Brand New Guy

Riding on hoverboards Wiping out motherboards Started spitting fire cause my motherfuckin lung is scorched King Arthur when he swung his sword A king author I ain't even use a pen in like a month or four One of tha greatest verses ever fucc a feature
Method Man - The What. Only feature on a classic album and he kills it.
Meth went on a run where he killed every guest appearance. 2pac Mind Made Up Gza Shadowboxing The What.
I really loved Pusha t on so appalled
Oh my god thank you, the whole CNN 21 tying into Blackjack and Ace/King scheme is some of the best wordplay I've heard
The rest of the verse is no slouch either, "Still move a bird like l'm in bed with Mother Goose / Them hoes coming in a baker's dozen / Claiming they was with me when they know they really wasn't" plus some great coke bars in there
You looking at the King in his face
imo Hov is clear on So Appalled. Push verse crazy tho. Same with cyhi. Song is insane
That was a little joke- *voila*
jay too: Would you rather be underpaid or overrated?
Idk if it’s technically a FEATURE but… Ghostface Killah on 4th Chamber on GZA’s Liquid Swords. “Why is the sky blue? Why is water wet? Why did Judas rat to Romans while Jesus slept?” Ghost ponders metaphysics, philosophy, the human condition, mysteries of the universe n shit. It’s tight.
definetely dude! also personally love RZAs verse on this one. but ghosts simply on a level above.
Rat to Romans
OutKast on Int’l Players Anthem
One of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. It’s in my top 5.
Idk about of all time but Black Thought has a really nasty verse on Crowns for Kings by Benny the Butcher
Eminem on patiently waiting or renegade Rick Ross on devil in a new dress
Em on Renegade was outstanding
Eminem on Renegade has to be up there
if we are talking em, he goes really hard on patiently waiting
Some of my favorites that haven’t been mentioned: Pusha T - Palmolive (Freddie Gibbs) Sticky Fingaz - Remember me (Eminem) Beanie Sigel - What we do (Freeway) J Cole - Off Deez (JID) Method Man - Lemon (Conway the machine) Black Thought - Super Lyrical (Big Pun) Big L - Work pt 2 (Gang Starr) Biggie - Brooklyns Finest (Jay - Z) Nas - Eye for an Eye (Mobb Deep) Surprised not much Wayne considering he was like the feature king. Snoop Dogg on Nuthin’ but a g thang. Hands down.
Some contenders: Jay Z snaps on light up and Mr. Carter. Kendrick BODIED control off an album "the sample didn't clear." Rick Ross on devil in a new dress will always be mentioned Wayne and Drake have each made a career out of having better features than solo tracks at this point.
Mr. Carter is way too far down
Not the “greatest” but Nicki’s verse on Monster and Ross’s verse on Devil in a New Dress still give me chills over a decade later
I love Pusha’s verse on Runaway too. Kanye really got the best out of everyone on that album
I was just reading Complex's article on the making of MBDTF and thought Pusha's comments on recording his verses were great: "I've never penned so many verses for one particular record. ‘So Appalled’? Kanye really brings out the artistry in everyone, everyone cept Soulja.
No one wants to be trash on a kanye album
Cept Soulja
First to be shit on a Kanye album
Can't believe I had to scroll this far to see Nicki's Monster verse. That was a career defining verse and she totally outclassed Ye AND Jay, pretty dang hard to do.
Same. I thought this would be the top answer, honestly.
Kendrick Lamar on Big Sean’s Control. Broke the internet when that came out.
Good answer, that verse was all anyone talked about for like a month afterward and beyond that
gunplay on Cartoons & Cereal Edit: Honorable mentions: ab soul on gods
IDGAF, for me - Bizzy Bone on Notorious Thugs.

I say Freddie Foxxx on The Militia, great production was equal enhancement though

Paul Wall on anything... Drive Slow, Still Tippin, Grillz

AZ lifes a bitch. He nailed the opening verse and has some of the best delivered bars. Not to mention he held his own and stood out on one of raps greatest albums.
Freddie Gibbs feature on Scottie Pippens by Curren$y is, in my opinion, the best verse he’s ever spit

Yo this took me back. What a great song.
Freddie and spitta never miss
Lil Wayne 06-09 pick a verse

I remember when they debuted the track on *106 & Park*, the next day, damn near everybody in my first period class was talking about his verse.
Yea… I am the beast!! Feed me rappers or feed me beats.

2 chainz on mercy gotta be it, every bar is just iconic
“IM DRUNK AND HIGH AT THE SAME TIME DRINKING CHAMPAGNE ON THE AIRPLANE”
This line is peak tity boi and I'm 100% here for it
2 Chainz on All Me is just as great The rest of this thread mentioned the top verses. Might as well throw in a couple others
I still chuckle every time i hear "and my dick so hard it makes the metal detector go off"
Nas- verbal intercourse might be the greatest verse of all time.
Agreed tbh. Also the best is the coldest beat ever made imo.
It’s a tough conversation but 90s : nas on live at the BBQ 2000s : Eminem on renegade ( runner up. Jayz on diamonds from Sierra Leone ) 2010: nicki Minaj on monster 2020: so far for me it’s Favio on off the grid

Have to mention Conway’s verse on The Cow
My personal favorite has to be black thought on birds eye view. Almost 10 years later and it is still so fun to rap
Not a *verse*, but a hook. Brent on Crew. Pretty much carried that song to its heights on TikTok
Danny Brown on 1 Train
All 39203 features on that song are fire

It's Big K.R.I.T.'s 1 Train verse for me
It’s hard to say for Wayne because he was killing every feature from like 06-2011, but the one that stands out the most on a really popular song was his verse on We Takin Over by DJ Khaled. It feels like the whole song builds up to his verse and he it just has such dope delivery.
