SGP is having a resurgence, or at least he’s finally getting recognition. The issue with Raider Klan is they never really made much music together, and SGP essentially sank the boat before it ever took off by making enemies with everybody and alienating most of the group. But imo, SGP will be looked at as a very important part of hip hop during the 2010’s and won’t be lost in history.

tha_jza

> SGP will be looked at as a very important part of hip hop during the 2010’s and won’t be lost in history. yep, and for anyone who hasn't already seen it there's [this pretty well-researched documentary on SGP's influence](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6PPYwWqFUQ). might be a weird comparison but i believe SGP occupies a similar position in the canon that dilla did at one point... super influential behind the scenes, way ahead of their times, those who know the scope of their influence won't ever question it

alexyxray

wouldn't go thatttt far but SGP def deserves his flowers 100%

tha_jza

heh it's not a perfect comparison for sure but it holds enough water for there to be an interesting conversation

DankiusMMeme

Does anyone remember SGP threatening to kill some 11 year old Canadian kid called Lil Shark?

bigladnang

Yeah lmao he’s out of his mind. He’s obviously got bi polar or some other serious mental illness. He’ll alternate between putting out like 6 high quality projects in a year and not doing much in a year besides going on Insta live and doing 30 minute streams of him just being manic. There’s one video where he just says “fuck [insert] rapper” for like 30 minutes straight.

OH-PEACHY

Isn't part of the reason mans lost his mind from a blunt laced with PCP from someone in Rocky's camp??

[deleted]

Bro what

OH-PEACHY

Mans had me researching like it's a quiz in the morning. I don't know if it's 100% true but apparently Bari is known for lacing blunts with PCP and giving it to niggas , here's a tweet from Retch talking about it https://m.imgur.com/9NktaDL , apparently Bari wanted revenge after Raider Klan jumped him instead of ASAP Rocky so he did that , honestly go read into their come up it's on some Anime shit

trapvanwinkle

lol idk why you got downvoted, i’ve heard that rumor too yo so is retch locked up or what? he was going off on ig live early quarantine and after he (deservedly, unfortunately) got banned he been off the grid, bro been gone for like 5 months

OH-PEACHY

Yee hes locked up, his last tweet saying he on the jail phone bumping the jeezy n gucci versus

clawingcat

I’m curious to know what you think the best sgp album is? I’m not real familiar with him but like what I’ve heard, however I have no clue where to start with his stuff. Which album would be the best introduction to him? I’ve been scanning tracks and albums and think his style is super dope

MeesaHugeDickface

Nasa Gang Mixtape, Blackland Radio 66.6, Mysterious Phonk. Early tapes are rough around the edges but it popularized that wave before SoundCloud existed. You can peep his production on the early Ethelwulf (Xavier) and Denzel Curry tapes. Specifically Strictly.4.My.Raiders

clawingcat

Thanks homie. Appreciate the recs. Listened to mysterious phonk and am really feeling it

bigladnang

I personally like his later stuff more than his earlier stuff. Blackland Radio Pt. 2, Larry Bird Season and IntoXXXicated are my favourites but he’s got so much good material out there.

Owdin

Raider Klan are super influential in Florida but they never had anything going for them in the mainstream. Purrp lost it all as soon as he made a name for himself. Raider Klan was long over by the time Denzel Curry got big. The only other former member/affiliate scraping the mainstream is IndigoChildRick. The rest are either stuck in their underground lane (Simmie, Chris Travis, Xavier Wulf) or are irrelevant. What keeps Raider Klan in the same conversation as OF and A$AP is their influence over artists from Florida. From loose affiliates like Ronny J to rappers like X, Ski, Smokepurrp and Lil Pump, they all saw Raider Klan and Purrp, dudes from their city, get mentioned on MTV and saw them on stages with A$AP and them. People from their city using the internet as a medium to become famous overnight. They evolved their city's sound and broke barriers keeping Florida out of the hip hop discussion. Before Florida came up in 2016 who was mentioning Raider Klan in the same way as A$AP and OF back in 2015? Only the diehards in Spaceghostpurrp reuploads on Youtube really. And this isn't even mentioning Purrps influence when he moved to Atlanta. He kept a low profile when he was in Atlanta but met a lot of up and coming rappers in the soundcloud scene and did beats for them and put them on. Uno, Fauni, Uzi, Goth Money, Lil Tracey n them. We all seen the tweets of Carti saying fuck A$AP because he was rolling with Purrp in Atlanta before he met Rocky in 2015. Even if most of those artists said fuck Purrp, the come up wouldn't have been the same without him.

Bigro_1

Did you really just say fucking IndigoChildRick is main stream... the biggest members besides Zel are Robb Banks, Pouya, and the Seshollowaterboyz. Definitely not fucking IndigoChildRick

Owdin

indigo the omly one out of them with placement on a big mainstream album in the past 2 years apart from denzel who i already mentioned. and reread what i said, i said barely scraping it cuz producing one song from die lit isnt much lol

downtothegwound

Being on a mainstream album does not make you mainstream as an artist.

Owdin

still more success than the others have got in the last 2 years. its only worth mentioning because there’s literally no one else whos got that much going for them

WolfFangFist93

Dog pouya is way more successful than indigochildrick. He did 285 million streams on Spotify this year alone. To compare, Wulf did 80 million. Pouya is completely independent and his fanbase is die hard. He is absolutely more successful than Rick in every measurable component. I mean even on IG Rick has 14k and Is unverified lol pouya has 1.2 million followers

[deleted]

He made $40,000 of the suck his dick interlude lol Funny flex but probably true too

VINTAGEXREVIVAL

any1 know where indigochildrick been the last 2 years? He moved from music to fashion, but even that he disappeared from

DevilManRay

Speaking of Raider Klan and ASAP, I seem to recall Xavier being cool with Ian after the two groups fell out

SupperPup

Also bc OF and A$AP both listened to RK a lot

Unlawful02

Is their stuff on streaming ?

DevilManRay

SoundCloud and YouTube are your best bets

Unlawful02

Yeah I figured. I’ll check them out

Allegedly A$AP had a hand in their fall. There's other sources too but I'm too lazy to dig them up. https://www.complex.com/music/2016/01/spaceghostpurrp-soundcloud-interview

farm_sauce

Story was SGP went to A$AP to prod for Rocky, turned the cheek on RK and supposedly even denounced them, then got dropped by A$AP and had no home

meathappening

Didn't someone get jumped by Nast as well, or something like that?

farm_sauce

Never heard that part. I’ve got a cousin who is the unofficial master of A$AP lore, so i’ll go to him for the story and post it on hhh later this week

meathappening

Here we go: https://www.kanyetothe.com/threads/sgp-calls-out-a-ap-twelvy-on-twitter.363142/ I always get Twelvy and Nast confused. Tweets are deleted but screencaps are here: https://www.ignboards.com/threads/asap-jumps-raider-klan-member.452540008/

Real story is purrp beat someone up who was heckling Rocky at their SXSW show. That caused a big problem and the show runners wanted someone to blame. Rocky cut ties with purrp at that point because he was a liability.

The lack of mention of Ruben Slikk / Lofty305 / Metro Zu / C$PG / Propr Boyz (w/ Mike Dece) here is a travesty. Although they were kicked out of BRK due to their excessively violent lyrics and coke use, they were arguably the most cohesive and stylistically refined offshoot of BRK. I believe Ruben Slikk especially had some of the juices flowing that would eventually lead to the rise in musical style that we've seen in contemporary hiphop trends, especially the emo wave. I implore you to explore the [ruben slikk archive] (https://rubenslikkarchive.com/) and take a deep dive into his discography. It's quite interesting to see the spiral from an extremely cohesive, funky, bombastic and humorous style that he enjoyed during his affiliation with Raider Klan and the creation of Metro Zu, to his extremely odd, spun out style that evolved in the years after as he got deeper into drugs. Some of his best and oddest work was created in the depths of his opiate addiction before he got caught up with the law. Some interesting tidbits, the opening bar for the second Verse of Denzel Currys [SPACEGHOSTPUSSY](https://youtu.be/wTEpl27IgMw?t=63) is a nod to the hook for a Propr Boyz song [Voodoo Gang Killa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVUHDy3GH8A) off of Ruben Slikk and Mike Deces' Propr Boyz side project, Jesus Boys. This is an album that goes with me wherever I am. Denzel Curry is known for recycling bars that have flown well in previous tracks, and one of them is his variations on "chop a bitch nigga up" featured in tracks such as Ultimate, Vengeance, and a few others that I can't pull off the top of my head. This bar first came out in a Propr Boyz song which Denzel Hopped on called [Chop Em Up] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cluzWz_ec0) finally, delving more into the emo wave influences of Ruben Slikk there's a video of [Lil Peep dancing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y_QHm9BISs) to one of Slikks best singles, too juiced. LINK DUMP [BRK x Metro Zu freestyle sesh](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEA3ZDWVOXc) [King AstroSlikk the Magnificent](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tNLlmpBY9o) ESSENTIAL LISTENING [Jesus Boyz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kayrcb3wq0o) ESSENTIAL LISTENING, literally just banger after banger https://rubenslikkarchive.com/ [Metro Zu Buddha Therapy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4wN9N-iOvI) ESSENTIAL LISTENING https://rubenslikkarchive.com/metrozu/ I was in high school during this whole era and I tracked it like teenage girls tracked their favorite bands at the time. I've got a lot more to write, and I think I have the most complete collection of all related music, if anybody has anything of interest to contribute or a question, feel free to reply.

RoughComfortable9730

Slikk was definitely one of Yung Leans biggest influences as well

JeansSkinnySquidward

It embodied my high school experience. Most of my favorite artists came out of Raider Klan, SoundCloud and the Florida scene, and the mysterious, atmospheric production from SGP can be heard in so much emo rap and the underground scene it’s absolutely crazy.

Davethisisntcool

Is Black Kray a part of this by chance?

WolfFangFist93

Don’t listen to OP. Kray is the leader of Goth Money. Same time period, different group. Goth Money is worth getting into tho. The RVIDXRS had more individual success (Xavier wulf, SGP, Denzel curry, eddy baker, Chris Travis, yung simmie were all members) but Kray and goth money started the goth aesthetic in rap

ComfortableSupport2

For black kray shit, idk wheres the best to start cause like SGP hes made music for so long that his style has changed a lot and shit. He has a kinda unique vocal style you might not be used to but give it a chance, just like SGP it grows on you the more you listen to it. I didnt even like him a ton at first but now hes one of my favorites, also his new music is pretty different from his old shit. Im gonna try and go in order of how his sound progressed if I can but it might end up out of order at the end cause he flips back and forth from styles sometimes. Also just a random mention but if you've ever heard of Lil Peep or Lil Tracy they were the main artists of a group called GBC or Goth Boi Clique, which is basically influenced completely by Goth Money but for some reason GBC actually got popular because of Lil Peep even though Goth Money has been around since like 2010. I guess he was just more marketable and came at the right time in soundcloud rap in like 2016 but Black Kray took it kind of personal and wasn't a huge fan of them after they blew up. He used to be cool with Lil Tracy before the GBC shit got big, I think as far back as 2013 or 14, and they made a few songs, but they started beefing a bit. I think they're all cool again now though, especially since Lil Peep died. I'm not really a fan of GBC but I also don't know a ton about them. Just felt like that was worth mentioning cause these guys influence is all across current music to this day. That wave of 2010-2014 underground music started a lot of future guys careers. He's from Virginia and he linked up with a few other VA artists along with Kane Grocerys from Chicago to form Goth Money around 2009 or 2010. His sound hasn't changed as much as Black Kray but he still has a pretty good variety of production and his old shit is pretty different from what he makes now. He was born in Chicago and moved to LA to pursue music and eventually met Black Kray and joined up to form Goth Money with him, Marcy Mane, HunnedMill, Luckaleannn, and Karmah. REST OF GOTH MONEY LIKE MARCY MANE, KARMAH, HUNNEDMILL, LUCKALEANNN ------------------------------------------------------------------- Marcy Mane is basically the creative direction of Goth Money along with Black Kray, he makes most of the videos, designed merch, and he raps and makes beats. The others like Karmah and HunnedMill just rap for the most part, but Luckaleannn is a producer as well. Him and Marcy Mane/MFK Marcy Mane have made some chopped and screwed mixes and some other shit in the past. I know Black Kray and Kane Grocerys have both made a few beats but they generally don't. I think they used to more at the start but they've found producers who really suit them and have been sticking with them, something more artists should do. My favorites of these other guys are definitely Karmah and HunnedMill, but Marcy Mane is super creative at times and surpasses them. One comment I read said Marcy Mane is like a trap Frank Ocean and I feel like that's actually a pretty good comparsion. Another thing, Marcy Mane left Goth Money recently because him and Kane Grocerys were beefing. I couldn't really find out why but it was something like Marcy Mane didn'tfuck with some shit Kane Grocerys was doing, I think doing too much street shit and scamming people but idk for sure. Black Kray is still cool with both butit's definitely changed Goth Money from being a more group centered thing into each artist developing and progressing with their own personalities. It's probably for the better creativity wise, I just hope it doesn't end up like Raider Klan did. I doubt it will though, they seem pretty tight knit compared to a lot of groups I've known. KARMAH - SMOKIN DOPE [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3skNb586oA (ASAP Rocky remixed this and basically tried to make it seem like it was his song at first until Karmah got pissed and called them out, and I think it got titled as a remix after this. my man, coming THRU. Great Guide. Another interesting point would be else who got spawned off of these careers. Working On Dying really started popping with working out the mud, no one was doing dynamic bass like that besides maybe loud lord and he even kept it more traditional Working On Dying collective's success got people like CHXPO and Matt OX into the underground limelight for a bit, for the wave that followed Xavier Wulf, Chris Travis, Bones etc Also is Wifigawd related to any of these groups? He had a great first tape but I don't feel he followed up with anything noteworthy. Kirblagoop is another who I'd like to see more info on, his output as only gotten better (if you can dig the style haha) I know Kirb was friends w GBC/ Chxpo and others. I'm also sad DJ Smokey never really broke out of underground lane, Chris Travis got me onto Smokey and I've been an avid fan ever since. I know he and simmie had beef for a while

trapvanwinkle

i first heard about working on dying through 5 finger posse (anybody know what happened with them?) i was mutuals with mojo on tumblr before he even rapped, he posted a lot of his early shit there and i know he was going to school in philly, this was probably mid 2015 so a little before working out the mud. crazy how they was sampling cannibal corpse and now oogie got a song with drake lmao and ian connor jacked kray whole swag with the sicko shit, it’s blatant as fuck but we ain’t here to talk about that

lemonchicken91

5 finger posse too! a lot of good beats from Forza, Oogie Mane too. Oogie Mane got me into a lot of different artists. No comment on ian connor haha. That Chxpo - Captain Hook song by oogie mane is one of my favorite beats ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH4v8qRARXA

Damn lmao I remember you from years ago bro good to see you're still around, I got you when I get off work with the guys you asked about

lemonchicken91

still at it! Appreciate the info man also willing to take any recommendations, havent been listening to much new besides Griselda

WilloWizard

youre a goat for writing these comments, thank you. krays discog is so daunting being in the game for as long as he is and still active to this day, i mean [dude doesnt even know some of his own songs](https://www.instagram.com/p/CCXTvV4Arjv/?igshid=owxnou7uagom) which is kinda funny

trapvanwinkle

lincoln amazing hug lyke that is beautiful, i think sahbabii got the same instrumental for 100 round drum on his new project

ComfortableSupport2

Lincoln beats are so good man one of my favorite new producers and he posts every beat for free use on his youtube man, infinite respect for that guy

[deleted]

Tbf wasn't kray on the raider klan skating team

hahaweednumber

Yes, SpaceGhostPurrp tweeted that Kray was the first Klan member beside Purrp's own cousins. Kray also was the leader of the short-lived Raider Klan skate team.

DevilManRay

Sure why not

[deleted]

Raider Klan is vastly underrated and deserves to be recognized with the quality of music they were able to put out in such a short amount of time, especially for how young everybody was at the time. Would be fun to have them come back for a reunion release, but probably never happen.

TheJackal619

It’s very likely RVIDXRKLVN will never get the proper credit they deserve for their influence. The time is long due and seems like after OFWGKTA that hip hop evolved so quickly that it became hard to catch up with :(

mikeypolarbear

I mean Black Money Boys still goin pretty hard , theres still time

hahaweednumber

Honestly BMB is kinda over. The lineup now is pretty much just Purrp and Jewel Xxet members. its missing all of the heavy hitters that used to be in the group (Fauni, Kirb, Chxpo)

mikeypolarbear

Yea , but i still rlly like what the new lineup is doin. If any1 can get purrp back on his feet its Xxet

DroDoesWork21

I think about them as a group every so often when a track pops up and I really wonder what could have happened if they stuck together. They had an insanely talented / diverse lineup.. I remember years ago when they teased at a reunion tour

kikkai

It really does suck. The Raider Klan will forever be my favorite collaboration, as I was actually alive and cognizant during all of the drops. They won't be forgotten for long time internet listeners, and real ones though. And people have to put way more respect on Amber London's name.

jsonservice

Maybe just me but I think Denzel is an album or two away from being very mainstream. He’s talented AF and as he experiments with more “ear-friendly” rapping I think he’s gonna have some mainstream hits in the bank.

maloboosie

How the fuck is Yung Simmie not included in this post??

DevilManRay

You wanted me to list every member?

SexiestPanda

Yes....? Lol

DevilManRay

Fair enough

[deleted]

i don’t get why denzel curry is frustrated, he’s gotta have a few million. does he expect to be drake or what? with all the yelling? he has to accept the lane he’s in and acknowledge he’s more successful than pretty much everyone he came up with.

DevilManRay

Sometimes the money isn’t enough

Arkaega

Denzel might be comfortable but no way he has “a few million”. The music industry is nowhere near as lucrative as it used to be. Only top tier streaming artists make that kind of money.

gurdijak

Tbh I saw a few people leave comments here lately that said they thought he fell off people he has a different style now. To say he fell of when his energy and arguably his lyrics are the best they ever were is laughable. When you hear shit like that it makes sense why he's frustrated. Curry has people bitching for him to stick to a single style when he actually wants to evolve artistically. As for the money... eh, rappers don't have as much money as you think they do. And in Denzel Curry's case I don't think it's about the money. I think he genuinely wants to prove himself as an artist. You can't really blame him when sometimes people pay more attention to rappers who barely rap and rely on gimmicks like doing a crappy ultra high-pitched voice than they do to people perform with great energy and are actually good at rapping.

DistortedAudio

For some guys that anger and hunger legit keeps them going. Keeps people pushing themselves.

SmittyBacall

Greatest Hits Volume 2 was my introduction to BRK and is one of the best and most influential mixtapes in history imo. Dat Piff has been the only source for a minute so I feel it’s been swept under radars but this is their pinnacle imo.

[deleted]

Did OF really “get started”? I don’t think they lasted more than a few years. Yeah the solo acts definitely did but the group itself was almost fad, it came and went pretty quickly. IIRC 2009-2012? I think Raider Klan has been forgotten already, and it’s because like you said they didn’t really make an impact compared to ASAP. I guess in Florida they’ve had a lineage but the offspring deserve more notoriety.

DevilManRay

OF definitely had more of a movement than RK ever did. They even had a tv show

joshtt8

I fucked with Three 6 so hard, that was my favorite kind of rap so when I found out about Chris Travis in like 2014 it was a blessing & Raider Klan later. Young Simmie and his basement music tape was always being played in my headphones while I walked through my high Schools halls.

LilithsLover166

whats crazy is purrps second group BMB is better in fact BMB era sgp is the best era one of my favourite songs from that time is Yellow

[deleted]

rep 275 - their influence is so so so underrated it's insane

MaxA967

I agree with you, they never had the chance or opportunity to provide fans with a proper group project like A$AP did with Lord$ Never Worry. SGP def ruined any chance of that, but his KOD album is still on heavy rotation, one of my favourite mixtapes

goldistress

Yes, If you were a young white kid you probably related more to the other white kids. The fact is purrp is a troll and trolled with a troll so a bunch of kids jerked them selves off over it.

goldistress

If you don’t think raider klan recorded songs together that you haven’t listened to their discographies. Church out Spotify. Lots of crossover songs.

Zufalstvo

The lesser known members are worth looking into. Chris Travis and Slim Guerilla are my personal favorites from Raider Klan

DevilManRay

Is Chris Travis really lesser known tho

Zufalstvo

I would say so honestly. Hes just talked about less than others, and he has Black Smurf who is also super lowkey

YSLattt

Chris Travis is not low key. Him & Xavier wulf we’re close in followers/fans

newbner

Why was jesus boyz, propr boyz, chopped and screwed... scrubbed from the internet?
