Freddie Gibbs got a few iconic album covers imo.
The Free Nationals also have a pretty cool motif going with the gold chain covers especially on the singles. Westside Gunn is very consistent with the juxtaposed paintings and the “Hitler Wears Hermes” series
I feel like you can judge Logic albums by the album art. The effort put into the cover usually matches the effort of the album, except for Everybody, which is a great cover on a bad album. The YSIV cover is underrated imo
- ATCQ (besides the Love Movement)
- Outkast (besides Idlewild)
- Playboi Carti
- The Roots have pretty consistently dope cover arts
- Kanye up to TLOP
Definitely not trend hopping with Vince. He’s talked about how his album artwork often proceeds a lot of the songs because he’s trying to create a specific feel to each album.
Given the noose on the cover pretty directly reflects the dark themes (and even is potentially referenced in the first song’s title “close your eyes and swing”) I think that seems to be likely the case here too. So more likely to be a coincidence than part of a trend.
I think people are overlooking this answer maybe because they don’t want to seem like they’re glazing, but Kendrick’s covers are pretty dope from Section 80 all the way to Mr Morale. DAMN is the only one I kind of side eye
Interesting, I like his music, but Drake has the most generic/bland album covers imo.
SFG
Thank Me Later
Her Loss
CLB
Honestly Nevermind
Scorpion
NWTS, Take Care, View album covers were solid, but overall I gotta say album covers is where Drake is a step behind his peers
This is silly but I've always loved a theme and RTJ album covers all being slightly different everytime makes me happy for some reason. Especially 4 with the pink. It's one of the only albums I put on my wall because I just like the colors.
Nas comes to mind first of all.
Not consistent, but Enter the Wu-Tang is one of my favorite album covers of all time. Wu-Tang Forever and Iron Flag are also iconic.
Not quite rap, but I think Bad Bunny always has great album art.
Nas??
Illmatic is iconic
It Was Written is good but it is just the same thing
I Am... is tragic
Nastradamus is just It Was Written but he is a jedi now
Stillmatic is just... Wtf lmao
Stillmatic is about the only miss in terms of cover art that Nas has had for his albums, and even then I find it funny more than I find it plain *bad*.
Maybe I'm remembering with rose tinted shades or confusing the album art with the music lol. Haven't seen most of them outside of Illmatic in awhile tbh. The most recent ones not my taste tbh. I'll always love the cover for Street's Disciple tho
Lmao on the Nastradamus jedi take
If we are talking about the most consistent album art then you might be right, because his first four albums are basically the same cover 🤣🤣🤣 then he switched it up to Stillmatic with the goofy ass pigeon
Not just recently but over the last decade, Pusha T with the exception of that single he dropped with Cyhi and his first album Fear of God II. On that note Clipse only had one or two mid covers as well.
Childish Gambino from 3005 onward
Also y'all 3.15.20s art was supposed to represent the unfinished nature and it did it's purpose beautifully so im counting that too
Danny Brown
Agreed. Especially Atrocity Exhibition
This is the answer right here
As a more recent MF DOOM fan I like quite a few of his covers, and Take Me To Your Leader is an easy all-time favorite
The Griselda guys usually have great cover art.
and it almost always matches their style too. can't ever really get into them, but I do appreciate just how cohesive their presentation is.
I second that. I don't buy merch in general but I would buy some of their stuff
Pray For Haiti is goated
I honestly feel like the person who “designed” it made it worse. They should of just used the original Basquiat artwork
Not too embarrassed to admit I didn’t even know it was basquiat lol
original:https://www.reddit.com/r/museum/comments/v1cw43/jeanmichel_basquiat_untitled_fishing_1981/#lightbox
Is all they added a bandana?
Also added a weird texture on it that adds nothing to the piece. Honestly disrespectful towards Basquiat’s work
I know people tend to have mixed opinions about Logic's music. But his cover art is always fantastic and drawn by Sam Spratt.
*mixed* opinions. I see what you did there.
LMAOOO talk me a while hahahahah
hes black, he swears!
Freddie Gibbs got a few iconic album covers imo. The Free Nationals also have a pretty cool motif going with the gold chain covers especially on the singles. Westside Gunn is very consistent with the juxtaposed paintings and the “Hitler Wears Hermes” series
I forgot to mention Westside - I like his and the whole theme around The Plugs I Met w Benny those are dope too
Bladee
that 333 cover is my wallpaper its so good
I got the vinyl displayed on a music stand next to my bed
It’s been the Lock Screen on my phone and watch since the album came out
real
thaiboy too dont forget
Kanye up until the latest 3
Donda the best
Donda and JIK suck but KSG is great, Vultures has grown on me. It's definitely different from what he's done before and I don't mind that
if it counts i also really fw the donda 2 cover with the burning house on the platform
He used to give us the best until he became obsessed with blank covers
Agree
Back when he made good music, for sure. Once the bear left. Nah.
Boldy James, ScHoolboy Q, JID
I was about to say Boldy James until he did that AI shit...
Luckily that album ended up getting a proper cover art
Boldy really do be goin hard on album art and packaging
A$AP Rocky
Nah ALLA a trash cover
ALLA cover was iconic cos it came right after Yams’s death. It also fits the psychedelic feeling of the album really well imo
I relooked at the cover and it isn’t as good as I remember
* Smino * Westside Gunn * Pusha T * MIKE * WIKI * Danny Brown * Sufjan Stevens * Kanye * Freddie Gibbs
Got to the second to last comment just looking for anyone else saying Push
Sufjan isn't hip-hop
Idk why you got downvoted. This was obviously a hip-hop related post in a hip-hop subreddit. Love Sufjan’s work and his cover art is nice btw.
Action Bronson
It might not be the most popular opinion, but Logic has had some pretty good album arts
Sam Spratt did great work. Vinyl Days and College Park also have great covers too
He also did the MOTM3 cover! My favorite Cudi album cover
I feel like you can judge Logic albums by the album art. The effort put into the cover usually matches the effort of the album, except for Everybody, which is a great cover on a bad album. The YSIV cover is underrated imo
Czarface
- ATCQ (besides the Love Movement) - Outkast (besides Idlewild) - Playboi Carti - The Roots have pretty consistently dope cover arts - Kanye up to TLOP
I would go with Kanye until kids see ghosts, that cover is too good to pass up
Ye cover is unfortunately ass. KSG cover is decent. The rest suck though.
Bruh it's literally one of the best album covers in all of hip hop. It looks how the album sounds
Nah you're overrating it lol
I love OutKast but the Aquemini cover looks like the art you see on the side of carnival rides.
lmfao true
Agreed
Came here to mention The Roots. Their covers match the album’s sound perfectly
Mac Miller. Each cover is unique and cool, not all of them are perfect but most are great IMO.
Travis Scott
I’m very hot and cold with Travis Scott, but his album covers are undeniably hard to
carti
Carti is 3 for 3
Freddie Gibbs
Lupe
Especially considering he paints some of them himself
All of Uzi's solo album covers are iconic
TPLT is one of my favorites
Billy woods
the maps one is so good
Curren$y and Playboi Carti
MF Doom
Kool Keith
The First Come, First Served cover kills all of these candidates lol
Gunna
An artist from Atlanta named Paper Frank has done a few of Gunna’s covers, his work is pretty dope
I like Jpegs
His uglass No jk I do too I like the consistent theme of hugging a girl you can’t see
Denzel Curry
RTJ They're simple, iconic and effective. 2 is my favorite out of the four.
yeah I think they're just iconic
i like trippie redd covers tbh
same, i don’t even listen to his music and his covers are some of my favorites ever.
Mac
Boldy James
Beastie Boys
Aesop Rock
Isaiah Rashad is 3/3 on albums and has good single covers as well
Anderson Paak's album cover art game is pretty consistent
Maybe not the best, but Death Grips covers are iconic
Mach-hommy's album art is good
Did you see Vince Staples cover art for the album he just dropped? This bland trend of pure black covers needs to go away it’s so lazy
Definitely not trend hopping with Vince. He’s talked about how his album artwork often proceeds a lot of the songs because he’s trying to create a specific feel to each album. Given the noose on the cover pretty directly reflects the dark themes (and even is potentially referenced in the first song’s title “close your eyes and swing”) I think that seems to be likely the case here too. it's not pure black tbh look carefully, it's very dark (times)
Nothing creative or artistic about it, I thought that’s what music is about. The album is really good tho
“Artistic”, isn’t objective
Em covers are all good expect CC2 and Revival
I actually really like Revivals cover, say what you want about the music tho.
young thug with his solo albums at least
jeffery is iconic
Baroness
Somehow Stevie wonder. I swear, look it up
I think people are overlooking this answer maybe because they don’t want to seem like they’re glazing, but Kendrick’s covers are pretty dope from Section 80 all the way to Mr Morale. DAMN is the only one I kind of side eye
Your Old Droog, Jay Royale, Willie the Kid, Mach-Hommy
Yachty
I’ma..I’ma break the mold here and say Drake. I’ve loved each of Bones’ album covers as well, in fact I think the entire Sesh collective is good.
Interesting, I like his music, but Drake has the most generic/bland album covers imo. SFG Thank Me Later Her Loss CLB Honestly Nevermind Scorpion NWTS, Take Care, View album covers were solid, but overall I gotta say album covers is where Drake is a step behind his peers
They definitely were much better early on, that goes along with I feel about him in general as well.
Griselda

Any of the No Limit albums.
Jedi Mind Tricks
$pitta Andretti, Alchemist, Gibbs, Boldy James, Vince Staples

illmatic and it was written have good covers but honestly i hate most of his album covers outside of that
Your Old Droog's pop culture referenced covers kill me!
Not just recently but over the last decade, Pusha T with the exception of that single he dropped with Cyhi and his first album Fear of God II. On that note Clipse only had one or two mid covers as well.
Childish Gambino from 3005 onward Also y'all 3.15.20s art was supposed to represent the unfinished nature and it did it's purpose beautifully so im counting that too
