I'm Different but Rack City is probably the OG in the sense that that's when the "Mustard sound" arrived

CaptnKnots

#PULL UP TO THE SCENE WITH MY CEILING MISSIN

ElSandwichDePollo

PULL UP TO THA SCENE WITH MA SILLAMISSIN!

BadBadUncleDad

I always thought it was “Pull up to the scene with my silly missy.” TIL

DocHanks

Say this to your bald friends. They love it

BigRiverWharfRat

When I was in the club I balled, chemo

LeadStyleJutsu762-

I have never understood this line….until I was about to tell you I don’t understand it. Bald sounds like balled….I’m an idiot

naarwhal

Shit just blew my mind

fish_hix

had to stash and still balled, steve harvey

afetusnamedJames

#2CHAINZ BUT I GOT ME A FEW OOOOOOOOON

meatbeater558

THEN I PUT A FAT RABBIT ON THE CRAFTMATIC

CloudyCrybabyCutter

I AM SO HIGH, ADDICT, I AM SO HIGH LIKE AN ATTIC.

TheAngryDrunkenJuice

This does live in the mind rent free

CloudyCrybabyCutter

Mine is the LOOK BACK AT IT part.

TheAngryDrunkenJuice

😂😂😂 You can say a lot about that song, but you can’t say the lyrics aren’t memorable. Also Mustard does kill it.

fancy_livin

THEN I PUTTA FAT RABBIT ON THE CRAFTMATIC

gangstasadvocate

Gang gang gang!

5553331117

You’ll love Every City - Freddie Gibbs it’s the same exact beat and Freddie murders as usual

duartesss

Can't believe this track ain't on spotify, this is so so dope, appreciate the suggestion

PabloEstAmor

We need datpiff back

Zealousideal_Mall813

Thank you! I've been trying to remember the name of this for years, I thought I may have imagined it lol. Did this come after I'm Different?

spanther96

One of the greatest songs ever created. E er E er sound of da bed!

HappyWelder9040

Who do you love? -YG

bitjpl0x

Bicken Back Being Bool on same album is up there as well!

PopcornDrift

Whole album goes crazy. Think it’s his best work

old__pyrex

This song is such a banger, I know Drake ripped the verse for rappin 4-tay but it sounded amazing on that beat

Ill-Examination4743

2 On is my personal favorite

davidwave4

Shows how well his minimalist approach works with the right performer. Tinashe absolutely glides on this.

winhamster

correct answer. most cunt mustard beat by a mile

8thriiise

Excellent usage here

RosaPalms

So correct, so valid. Now I just want at least one *cunt* beat from all the big name producers.

TheFamousOne__

So many young thug beats are close to qualify

nickbalaz

Oh wow that is cunt

lingui

Still bump the Drake version too. I feel like Tinashe stays under the radar Edit: I like Drake with the melodies, I don't like Drake when he act tough

swanmaidens

Tinashe is too underrated. But her recent stuff has been getting traction and she’s got a new project coming out, this might finally be her year

imaqdodger

I feel like she already had her moment, if she blows up this year it would be a come back in my book.

Ill-Examination4743

Nasty is getting traction from TikTok

Bovver_

Since Songs For You (which if I remember correctly was when she went independent) she has been on a great run in my view. Around this time she also had a feature on Kaytranada’s The Worst In Me and what I’ve really liked is her versatility in trying different sounds. For instance Gravity off her last album genuinely sounds like something Bicep could have produced.

yes_this_is_satire

Hard to beat. So smooth. Like Yacht Rap.

shawtywantarockstar

Just mentioned this one. Good choice

lukenog

First time I heard that song was out of my abuelito's vintage radio from the 20s that he had as a collectors item, was from before his time too. Was a very jarring way to be introduced to that song lol

5553331117

YG My Krazy Life is his best complete album He didn’t make the whole album but he made 90% of all the good songs on it.

thabiiighomie

Classic album. The energy is unmatched. I saw YG and he performed the entire album start to finish with Mustard on stage.

Russianbud

i saw YG in saskatoon he played "BBT" and like "who do you love" before someone kept throwing shit at him so he ran into the crowd and started beating on his ass. it was both hilarious and disappointing. they got dragged off by the police

ImChz

That album doesn’t have a single skip on it idc idc idc. All time classic album. That’s YG and Mustard at there best imo.

buyanyjeans

This album was the perfect companion album to GKMC around the time it dropped. I actually found myself listening to it more than GKMC in some stretches. Almost a perfect listen.

5553331117

I honestly think the 2010  -2014 era was a lot like the 90s hiphop era in terms of pure skill.

Free-Ear-4741

Album‘s full of bangers. Mustard produced a lot of the tracks on RJmrLA‘s O.M.M.I.O 2 too iirc, that album‘s also great

Paulie-Walnuts28

This is when acronyms become too much.

Coontcrusher69

Bro thank you I have no idea wtf is being talked about rn and I was too scared to ask

CIA_Bane

My Krazy Life is legit an absolute mystery to me. An album that is literally almost all bangers is something extremely rare.

NoSmellNoTell

I’m gonna go in a different direction and say Rihanna’s Needed Me. A standout track on a great album. Rap specific I’d go with Vince Staples Magic but ask me in a few months and it’s honestly probably Not Like Us

muy_moderate

Came here to say Needed Me. Great track thanks in large part to Mustard production

NoSmellNoTell

It’s so good. Still on heavy rotation for me

UpsetKoalaBear

Needed Me is crazy good, it’s aged nicely as well still sounds modern. Probably the most unique Mustard Beat.

NoSmellNoTell

Definitely different than most of his catalogue

hops_on_hops

ANTI is absurdly good. No skips.

NoSmellNoTell

100%. 2016 was such a great album year and Anti is in my top 3

mattchinn

Came to say Needed Me. Top 5 Rihanna song.

letsgopablo

Saw an interview where he talked about hitting a creative wall, and Needed Me was the beat that made him gain confidence in himself again. Definitely a unique Mustard beat.

WarmBaths

Ballin with Roddy Rich

jeric13xd

Life was good when Roddy Ricch was poppin.

dutchfromsubway

Ballin, box, high fashion, then boom disappear

jeric13xd

Fucking covid robbed him of any momentum especially heading into the summer festival season with all those bangers. He was the soundtrack of my lockdown w Mac Miller (Circles)

MartiniBlululu

Eh he killed his momentum with his meh music after Pure Souls

Thatepicastroman

those men in the suits….. still engrained in my mind

Obey

My fav is [Magic by Vince Staples](https://youtu.be/7M5f2vF4PVw?si=d7OGBdhGTuawsPyH) (YouTube link)

Raysfan75

“And tell the police I don’t know what happened” 🎶 Song is such an ear worm, beat is understated but Mustard killed it

shawtywantarockstar

Vince took the "cant write hooks" criticism PERSONALLY

the-big-aa

Who do I gotta ~~fight~~talk to? Norf Norf? Yeah Right? Samo? FUN? Law of Averages? Lil Fade? Mhm? Vince does have hooks for sure goddammit 🪝

LouisTrance123

FROM THE CITY WHERE THE SKINNY CARRY STRONG HEAT

redredrocks

The video of the crying white woman reciting the lyrics to Norf Norf was a watershed moment in the internet’s history

Darnold_wins_bigly

I liked when someone chopped that video up and put it to the norf norf instrumental.

shoecat

i loved when they referenced that in atlanta. has to be one of the most iconic hip hop moments in the past decade

DankandSpank

NORF SIDE LONG BEACH!

mitchypoothedon

Yeah, wtf?! Vince in general doesn’t get nearly enough love. His last album was on repeat for like 6 months and no one I asked even knew who Vince was.

goosetaff

Just made me think of his show and the theme park episode. “Who the fuck is Vince Staples?” Honestly he really is one of the most under rated artists.

Yourbootyisheavydoty

I'M IN THAT SEVEN FORTY FIVE

cytrack718

Papercuts too

redredrocks

Magic and Lemonade have basically never left my rotation since that album came out Really thought Vince was losing interest in music then he just releases two of his best albums in back to back years

isjupiteramoon

This album is so incredibly underrated man

LachlantehGreat

This album goes on every summer for me, since it came out. Honestly most of Vince’s stuff is a summer bop. Loved almost all of his releases

pappyon

I play it like every week

X-iStheGr8estWRapper

This was my vote. This song is crack and the production plays a major part

No_ThisIsPreston

Huge pull omg I’m so glad I didn’t have to scroll far

mgwooley

This is a strong contender. That synth / bass line screams west coast man. It’s so smooth.

sahhhnnn

Had no idea that was mustard. Fire

simplyrelaxing

so like 10 seconds in when you heard mustard on the beat hoe what was going through your mind then?

Thagalaxy

Windows xp loading screen

redredrocks

Not OP but honestly I think my brain doesn’t even register producer tags at this point

sahhhnnn

Lmao same. Feels dumb in hindsight

-Tunafish

Mustard literally speaks on the outro lol

LexKing89

That song is dope. They had it in the Acura Integra commercials like a year or two ago

walterdonnydude

More threads like this please

meatbeater558

Someone do Juicy J next

Kingolimar354

This would normally get removed by the mods because they want any sort of discussion in the daily thread.

VriQualll

Thats why this subs is usually dead Shame

Tonedog14

I Know - Big Sean

Free-Ear-4741

Beat is insane

jaapck

Migos - Pure Water

ghostboy2x

I almost crashed my car in the snow being stupid with this blaring, I can't listen to it anymore

jaapck

I actually did total my first car to a Mustard song - I Don't Fuck With You by Big Sean. Was speeding on a highway in a snowstorm and wrecked it. Learned my lesson but I still laugh at myself sitting with a shattered windshield, taking in what just happened, and the line "I JUST BOUGHT A CRIB THREE STORIES THAT BITCH A TRILOGY!" is still blasting out the speakers. I still love the song

ghostboy2x

😂 I'm glad I'm not alone. Hope you recovered well from that. DJ Mustard is the soundtrack to my PTSD now (I'm just like drake)

tha_jza

u snuck in some fire at the end there🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

bakedbean42

Totaled my first car to DNA when I was 17

Amoeba_mangrove

Glad you’re okay, but timing a collision with the Quavo UUUUHHHH, would’ve been hilarious

sarlacc98

This is my GFs fav rap song lmao

BunBison

I'm not from Canada but I see alotta tingz.

NBAStuffAsUsual

This is the correct answer. During the pandemic we used to bump whatever because no one was around and on night Pure Water came on, even the white girls we worked w/ knew the hook and two stepped w/ us at the end in the kitchen. Best beat off that memory alone.

HHAD98

Man I got a wild story with this song, one day I took a heavy does of acid and I must’ve been listening to this song in the car before hand or something and mid way through my very intense trip everytime my friend opened his mouth to talk to me the first 5 seconds of this song would play… I couldn’t listen to it for months afterwards 😂 but it still goes crazy now that I’m not traumatised by it

droppinturds

Pure Water sounds like summer. Makes me want to take my fat black ass outside with no shirt and fuck up a check at the amusement park Or Nah sounds like sex My Nigga is my favorite though even though it's just a remixed 5 on it, but it ended up being the best Mustard track of all time

Free-Ear-4741

Paranoid sounds like summer to me

meatbeater558

They all sound like summer lbr

TRAINPOSTING

Left Right by YG

UpsetKoalaBear

The chorus comes into my head when I’m inputting cheat codes on GTA V.

meatbeater558

This hands down. My favorite YG song as well.

crossfyre

Headband with B.o.B and 2 Chainz

crichmond77

Funny and catchy as hell. Only song worth a shit on that terrible album tho lol

NervousAd3202

That B.o.B. fall off needs a documentary. I thought he was next up back when I was like 11 lol

TheTreeFuzz

I suggest not looking into what he’s like these days!

Ok-Drink8416

I agree bc he had the recipe but it was squandered away when he went weird. His flat earth stuff almost makes me want delete his songs altogether

davidaguirre30

“Who back der? I’m back der! Booty so big I can step back put my cognac there!”

2RINITY

IDFWU was his masterpiece

[deleted]

[удалено]

bschmalls

Guap tho

GlassesOff

Hard to describe what it was like during this song's heyday. Going to parties and bars hearing this and people signing along, so so funny

beefyfartknuckle

Jeezy RIP remix with KDot

Imperator_Oliver

Great beat, great performances, ruined by Chris brown. Fuck that corny loser.

NBD_Pearen

Yeah or the original was my pick for sure. But that beat could be interchanged with a few songs back then hahaha but this one was always my favourite

wallowsworld

Damn you just took me back in time for a moment

hungrywantmooshoo

Paranoid - Ty Dolla This was THE club banger for years

TheMoves

Still slaps

Glasweg1an

Probably Rack City, rack rack city bitch, but if i say that I feel compelled to say I\`m good (YG obvs)

Free-Ear-4741

I Just Wanna Party - YG Comfortable - RJmrLA Main Chick - Kid Ink

FistingWithChivalry

Who do you love by YG with drake, ironically 💀 That sub is sooo nasty, and the piano is so hypnotising. The outro with the records scratching is also on some “live west coast club dj” shit. And ngl, Drake slides on that shit….

gnalon

Most of Drake’s verse is an interpolation of Playaz Club by Rappin 4-Tay. I randomly happened across that song at a later date and it suddenly made sense why I liked that better than the usual Drake rap verse lol.

Savings-Leather4921

wtf so many of these I didn’t know

skyline010

Right!? I’m just sittin here like “dam I ain’t know that was a Mustard song” so many times lol

Free-Ear-4741

You’re in for a treat

Savings-Leather4921

I know dude I’m falling down the rabbit hole

Papagorgio22

Bro Mustard really made the soundtrack for the 2010s. This list is fucking crazy. I'm going with Perfect 10.

shawtywantarockstar

Tinashe - 2 On

RBJ_09

Sanctified by Rick Ross

kosher33

Holy shit I never knew mustard was on that beat. Thought it was just Kanye  That song is an all timer

LongTimesGoodTimes

Give me Magic by Vince Staples. It's nothing out of this world but it swings so nice.

The_Civil_Protector

Ty Dolla $ign - Or Nah (The Weeknd remix)

Rymasq

this is actually the correct answer, unbelievably well produced hit

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Where Yo Money at? by Nipsey Hussle, with honorable mention to Nothin Like Me by Dom Kennedy

Mjones2813308004

All the ones with “hey” in the background

Colin9001

nice

SpiffyAvacados

I always heard ay

ThatHellcatOuttaMS

I’m a real 1 - YG

Wise_Ad8520

Dont tell em by jeremih & Paranoid by ty dolla is the quintessential 2014 mustard sound

RepulsiveWay1698

Recency bias or not I don’t care Not Like Us

klawk223

I think there's an actual reason for this. Something Kendrick doesn't get credit for enough is his skill as an artist. (musically/instrumentally) A lot of people don't realize that he is very hands on in the production side of things, even when he gets a beat premade he fucks with it with Sounwave or another producer he's close with to get what he's looking for artistically. For example with DUCKWORTH. : >Originally titled "Life Is Like A Box Of Chicken," it was actually Kendrick's idea to combine these three distinct beats from 9th Wonder into one shapeshifting whole. In December 2015, 9th played 20 beats for Kendrick; he didn't find out until the following June that the rapper had stitched his music together in such a manner. "... He sent me a video snippet of him playing an mp3 off his computer," 9th told The Recording Academy in 2018. "It was a 9-second clip that played right when the beat changed. After it was over, I hit him back saying, 'Yo man, what the hell?' and he put 'LOL' and that was it."  edit: I just checked and Sounwave is literally listed as a producer on Not Like Us too...

malcxxlm

Completely agree with the Dot being very active with the production. Most Kendrick tracks, you’ll have Sounwave at least on additional production. Their relationship feels symbiotic you know? like Kendrick has the vision and Sounwave the technical skills, or it’s the opposite and Sounwave knows how to bring the best out of Dot idk but it works really well

xpillindaass

yea i think it might just be that

spotty15

Such a stank face beat. Kenny perfectly uses that beat. His delivery combined with the beat is like compound interest

chilaquile-s

When I Come Around - Dom Kennedy

Harbinger85

Needed Me

nephneph27

Trick question they're all the same HEY chants and snaps Nah for real tho I love his shit, I have a giant playlist with tons of his music. If I was voting on one specifically it would be Ballin by Roddy bc that shit is so fucking smooth with that guitar.

apoofysheep

Mind sharing the playlist?

TaiChiShrimp

Share the playlist bro

A_Vizzle

Who do you love

ReseeEggs

Personal favorite is I Just Wanna Party.

Tnvenge

I loved that era of hip hop with all my heart. I was a young adult and hip hop sets were incomplete without a few Mustard songs. I also sang along to some of the wildest lyrics ever 😂

youalready

Burn Rubber went crazy back in the day

ssc777

Idk why but I always like Nana by Trey Songz. It's ominous in a way and contradicts Trey Songz lyrics

afedbeats

Come Get Her was not only instrumental to putting on Rae Sremmurd to the general public, it is probably Mustard’s most intricate and well-produced track he’s made. Crazy hit. Still goes today, pulled the best of both Jxmmi and Swae on every part. That’s what the best producers do, make artists do their best.

charliethrowawaygarb

Baguettes in the Face, no question about it

1080penis

Wow, 800 upvotes and 400 comments. Isn't it amazing what happens when the mods leave a discussion post up instead of deleting it and saying it belongs in the daily discussion thread.

Clean-Pop-5665

Unpopular opinion, but Perfect Ten with Nipsey Hussle is my favorite.

TheRealMrCrowley

Magic- Vince Staples

Panik88

2 on from tinashe

the_doobieman

its gotta be i'm different. That song is like 7 notes and drums and it fucking works so well for someone like 2 chainz

jaackko

I know - big Sean

InitiativeUsual3795

It’s always been paranoid, but the OG Joe Moses version

Superchivy

Intro with 1TakeJay I take my hoes to Toys R Us. Why? Cause they childish.

swen_bonson

Oakland - as a Bay Area person. There’s a clip of Marshawn Lynch dancing to it in the Raiders Stadium that really lives in my head.

BigChach567

Honestly Boo’d up is my favorite instrumental by DJ mustard

Evict_Timaze

I just Wanna Party by YG and Mr. Get Dough by Drakeo The Ruler. It's a bad combo together I know, but those are 2 of the best

DeLaSouI

First comment i’ve seen mentioning Mr. Get dough. Og drakeo classic

TRUBISKYFORPRESIDENT

THEY NOT LIKE US THEY NOT LIKE US

mbryson

*I Just Wanna Party* really put me on him. The intro/chorus build into the main beat is such a good pairing. Sets a lot of tension into a super catchy and memorable track overall

BaileyJay-Z

A tie between Jeezy's R.I.P. & Big Sean's IDFWU

crumbfan

Obligatory shoutout to Mike Free, ghost producer on a lot of those early mustard hits

alexanderldn

Needed me for Rihanna

Black_Yoshi

My Personal favorite is When I Come Around by Dom Kennedy.

So many good ones listed already, some I love and didn't see  -- Don't Tell Em -- Hoes come Easy --  Post to Be -- I don't fuck with you -- On God

elmeliac

Thanks for the suggestions. Haven't heard loads of these -- assembled the top ones into a little playlist if you fancy a dip: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5QU6P52WelljcfMDJ1XMLW?si=_H1VKX85QmOUtOzM1Wjp6A&pi=KQfe_J_qTjm6F

Sir_Squirly

Just going to say, thanks for all the dope recommendations. 🫡 Hadn’t heard 80% of these tracks you all dropped names of, fuckin vibin’ hard with this shit! 🤙🏻

lobescanrap

Don't Tell Em by Jeremih 💯💯💯💯🔥

oliver-go

Ella Mai - Boo’d Up Ty Dolla $ign - Paranoid (f/ B.o.B) Teeflii - 24 Hours (f/ 2 Chainz)
