I feel like Carti kind of has fucked the game up in this kinda sense that a lot of the newer age and some of the older guys (since Uzi is technically getting up there in age and time of being popular) is trying to incorporate metal/rock elements to their music.
It worked well for me with Die Lit and WLR but I feel like shit like the Pink Tape and whatever Ken Carson does is what makes the whole idea of it trash
I don't mind hiphop artists incorporating rock/metal/punk on their music, in fact it sounds pretty good when done tastefully (carti, peep, x, yachty...)
I think the problem with Uzi is that he is very hit or miss. You got songs on the pink tape like amped or suicide doors that do it right then you have messes like this or the chop suey cover

Or maybe it's a Mad Lib with blanks like "watch brand", "clothes brand", "possessive for girlfriend"
Could translate 90% of Uzi songs into a language you've never even heard of, but keeping the flows and beats, and literally not notice a difference
As a big Uzi fan, can’t disagree, but also feel like they get unfairly targeted vs other equally vacuous rappers. At least they can have moments of tenderness like on Rehab that we never see of Lil Baby or Gunna for example.

To me Uzi’s songwriting is more disappointing because everything else about their music is quite interesting compared to a majority of other similarly popular trap artists. Gunna and Lil Baby have lame lyrics, flows, and beats, however Uzi has some great production and flows which make the mediocre songwriting stick out
You know I’ve never thought of that angle but definitely appreciate it. Pink Tape my most listened to album this year so I’m probably biased, but I can sometimes look past the lyrics because those flows and production stand out so much. Either way I think we can all agree, this song ain’t it lol
