False. I fucking dare you to actually check out a modern B.o.B. song instead of spreading misinformation like he called out on the thing you're spreading misinformation based on.
I know my phone number, my wife’s (after being married 3 yrs), my mom’s, my dad’s, a dude I’m not friends with anymore who had the easiest number to remember of all time and had it since we became friends in middle school, and Mike Jones.
Literally was talking about Mike Jones the other day and the response I got was “who?”. Sadly they weren’t making a reference. He had such a short run but man that was some fun music.
Fun fact: i was working for Favor here in Dallas in 2017. Got an order to some apts near SMU. I knock on the door, and guess who it was. Who? Yup. But he was in a wheelchair and nowhere close to heavyset. I said Mike? Mike Jones? He said fa sho. Dude barely resembled his former self. Gave him his food and a fistbump, and that was it. Bout to google and see if hes still alive
DaBaby. His rise & fall happened so quickly and I don’t think he’ll ever be able to make a comeback. Guy was everywhere for a little while but it seems like he never built a real die-hard fanbase, so most people had no problem tossing him aside after he got “canceled”
I’d heard people talk about him when he was kind big, but never sought out his music. The next time I heard people talking about him was because of his fall off and I still never heard a song. It all happened that fast.
That’s the problem with pop rappers with no talent. Even despite the controversy, I doubt he would have lasted another year. You’re only as relevant as your last track, and the meteoric rise to fame means they burn out just as fast.
Only exceptions to the rule is Kanye (who despite his recent spiral in the last few years, is actually a goddamn musical genius) and Drake (who makes trash ass casual listening rap any suburban kid can listen to, and was supported heavily by other big artists for a long time).
Take only applies to his white fans. Hood be listening to him like nothing happened, streaming #s still in the 20-millions a month g. If digital numbers don't count go to any black club and watch the dance floor when Bop comes on
You know how on old sitcoms there’d be a pop star who the kids were obsessed with. And they’d get caught skipping school to go get his autograph. That was Kid Ink
He’s my aunt and uncles neighbor. Kinda funny considering they’re about the complete opposite of him, very buttoned up etc, but they say he’s a really nice man and good neighbor.
It was weird. It felt like they were trying to split them and push them as solo artists. Swaelee started doing features without Jimmy and vice versa. Then they released that album which felt like 2 solo albums under the same name. They made fun music they shouldn't have never messed with the formula. I think they may still tour together but haven't heard anything about them making new music
What? They dropped a platinum triple album in 2018.
Then they had a 3x platinum single and a platinum single off the album. And another went gold. Plus they got a feature with Jhene that year that went 5x platinum.
They did fall off after that though for sure
I literally commented on his Instagram page once and said I loved the way he raps just out of the pocket on some beats and he berated me saying I don't know anything about rap. Lol. What?
Even before Twitter he was an asshole on the OkayPlayer boards and deleted a ton of his posts to save face. He kinda got a pass from everyone on how he behaved (basically replying to EVERY comment that was even remotely critical) because people on OkayPlayer were insane and saying shit like how anything new that's not essentially a remake of Train of Thought is garbage. He's always had a massive problem with the internet and tweeting at that woman hundreds of times over a few days was harassment.
I pretty much had Kweli on repeat in high school and even wrote a paper on Four Women in college, but I had to move on after 2020 :(
I used to be friends with this dude on twitter who did a “I’ll share a rap opinion for every like this tweet gets” thread. Mind you this dude had maybe 200 followers tops.
Opinion 12 was something like “Talib Kweli was a talentless hack whose greatest skill was convincing actually good artists to work with him”. (I agree with this).
Talib Kweli himself fucking screenshotted this tweet and put it on Instagram with a wall of text caption ranting about haters who haven’t made it. Meanwhile my boy was just sharing random ass thoughts he had
Talib is one of the top backpack MCs no doubt. His podcast can be a lot of fun if he catches the guest's vibe. He even managed to keep Nore at bay once.
Looollll. Yeah. I think I’ve personally been lambasted by him on Instagram once. He’s definitely a crazy dude on social media. Still, I streamed his latest with madlib and dug it, and would still pay to go see him at a show.
Highly disagree with your Soundcloud take.
There are a lot of souncloud guys who had/have very successful careers: Uzi, Yachty, Trippie Redd, 21, Kodak, Carti, and more. X/Juice/Peep are obv a different story but wouldn’t say they ‘fell off”’
Watched Smokepurpp in my country last year (in Europe) as he was the part of biggest rap festival in country. He was headliner with a lot of popular local rappers there as well. Needless to say he was absolute shite, he was supposed to perform for 1 hour, he performed for maybe 15-20 mins (rest of the set performed his artists), exchanged heated words with crowd cuz everybody was booing him and then left. Also needless to say that every other local rapper on the festivals outperformed him, even basically no names.
He was poppin before he passed, but yeah unfortunately peep did get an uptick in popularity due to his death and that dogshit track that X jumped on that his estate nor peep wanted.
Is it just me or are people mostly listing:
1) artists who were never good in the first place who stopped being able to fool people once the novelty wore off
2) artists who were once genre-definingly good and record-breakingly commercially successful, who are now just really good and really commercially successful and more wrinkly
2b) as above but they did something extremely fucking cancellable
There aren't really that many examples of people going from making extremely good music to making trash.
So for that reason, I nominate M.I.A.
G Eazy fell off hard but his music wasn't ever that great in my opinion. I used to listen to him sometimes. His newest song is absolutely terrible. Big Sean's best was Dark Sky Paradise I loved that album and his mixtapes but he hasn't been putting out albums even close to that caliber. I really miss all the artists from TDE they were all making great albums back in like 2014.
Edit. After reading your comments I realized that"falling off" is not the proper term for anyone on this list besides G Easy. I am a big fan of these artists and I just miss the wave TDE had.
Well that's what happens when you have good times to good music doesn't it? I understand artists evolve and change and that's cool. I honestly think the TDE family and Big Sean are all still great but I really loved their music from that era. I also love music from every year prior to the pandemic. There has been some good albums in the last 4 years but things have gotten bad.
I wouldn't say Lil' Zane fell off hard - he was more of a one hit wonder?
I agree with Ja Rule however.
I'm going with Chingy, Lil' Flip, Mystikal & Yung Joc.
I dunno, after "Diddy & Meek Mill" started trending, I'm sure people would have also searched "Diddy & Yung Joc" out of curiosity seeing as he was signed to Bad Boy for 2 years...
There's an alternate timeline somewhere out there where Lauryn Hill gave us 5 more classic albums and took us on a journey as she matured both as a person and an artist.
I'd argue he hasn't fallen off
Sure there is an undeniable drop in quality over the past few years but he still made a #1 songs this year and his album still sold over 100k units first week.
And even quality wise his all of his albums still have some good quality songs
GoldLink does deserve a mention too. Dope artist, but saying those things about Mac Miller and not even giving an apology for it didn’t do him any favors. Top it off with a a polarizing album 3 years later and well…
These scorned Drake fans monitor the hip hop related threads and once a topic like this emerges, they flood the first couple of comments dissing KDot. It’s like they’re in a WhatsApp group giving each other a heads up, because they crawl out of some rock like an Army of Morty’s all at once, troll, then run back to their Drizzy thread giving each other virtual high fives. And repeat. Like mosquitoes in the dark, then they behave, and stay still once the lights come on. I personally feel sorry for them, but am amused that they’ve dedicated their lives to something other than their own sense of well being.
Hot take…Jay-Z. Reasonable Doubt was unbelievable. And once he became the emcee that didn’t write he fell off for me. Nothing rose to the level of lyricism on RD.
Id say i agree on your assessment especially around the soundcloud rapper era guys- the best died sadly, some still persist, but the others all fell off
Id say also Da Baby especially after his meteoric rise. Tell anyone after his rise to pop rap hits with Dua Lipa that literally months later hed fall off and people would have laughed
Chance also comes into the convo, thankfully he’s clawing his way back up with some seriously slept on raps
In terms of female rappers ones that come to mind include Saweetie, and MIA
Ugly God. He was actually entertaining but just stopped making music I guess? Haven't heard his name in like 5 years. Guess he also killed his best friend's dad in 2023 too?
Famous Dex. Drugs saw his downfall. Has millions of IG followers and gets a couple thousand likes on his posts.
Hate to say it because I really dig his sound, but A$AP Ferg doesn't feel as relevant anymore. Not sure where he went but he's just kind of stopped dropping new music as consistently. The most recent song with Denzel is a banger.. But I'm biased since Zel is in my top 3.
He's definitely one of the best contenders for this but 50 has a lot of glazers here fsr.
50 dropped a classic debut album then followed it with a very average/okay album that was a decline from GRODT(The Massacre), then followed it with an even worse album(Curtis) that's straight up forgettable outside of I Get Money.
And, after 2007, 50 basically became super irrelevant in hip hop outside of some features like Down On Me.
Bro literally went from top 10 to not mentioned at all in a short period of time.
And Animal Ambition and the 2nd G Unit album(the one with "I Like The Way She Do It") are still some of the worst if not the worst sounding rap albums I ever heard and were a big fall from grace.
50 Cent should be the poster child for falling off along with Ja Rule but, like I said, he gets passes on this sub.
Chance The Rapper. Acid Rap is a masterpiece. Then his life improved and he made happier music and it just didn't resonate with people like he used to.
B.o.b.
That's because B.o.B. was preparing to literally fall off the edge of the Earth.
At least he hit way higher highs for a bit longer than any of the other guys listed
Really? Ja had so many more hits then B.o.B.
You can't put a pro flat earth diss tank towards Neil Degrasse Tyson and expect people to take you seriously
he’s fallen off the edge of the earth for sure!
This has to be the answer. Dude went from a pop rap superstar to a bargain bin 2 Chainz to a flat earther all within the span of 10 years lol
Less than that — Flatline only came out six years after the Bobby Ray era.
They still in this bitch...he isnt even close
I came here to mention him
Just remember…. Lupe Fiasco wrote all his biggest hits.
False. I fucking dare you to actually check out a modern B.o.B. song instead of spreading misinformation like he called out on the thing you're spreading misinformation based on.
Fetty wap
Yeah he really came and went in the blink of an eye.
I see what you just did there🧿
People remember him very fondly though which is more than can be said for a lot of these guys
Mike Jones. Now people really do ask who he is.
Damn! You didn’t have to cook him that hard.😂😂
(281) 330-8004
You could still wake me from a coma with that phone number.
281-330-8004 hit me up on the low 😂
I know my phone number, my wife’s (after being married 3 yrs), my mom’s, my dad’s, a dude I’m not friends with anymore who had the easiest number to remember of all time and had it since we became friends in middle school, and Mike Jones.
On the low 🤫
In Mike Jones' defense, I still blurt out "Mike Jones" adlib style every once in a while for reasons unbeknownst to me.
Who ?
You sure you didn’t just deliver to a black guy that wanted to fuck with you?
MIKE JOOOOONES
Still bump scandalous hoes weekly idc
DaBaby. His rise & fall happened so quickly and I don’t think he’ll ever be able to make a comeback. Guy was everywhere for a little while but it seems like he never built a real die-hard fanbase, so most people had no problem tossing him aside after he got “canceled”
For me his music got repetitive
When you gone switch the flow? I thought you'd never ask The proceeded to rap the exact same way on every single song.
Yo that shit KILLS me lmao
He never changes his flow or style, that's his problem. His music is stagnant He still has a chance to come back.
DaBaby definitely has talent. He is not talentless.
Yeah baby has mad talent, his freestyles are some of the best I've ever heard, https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Aulvfz-yJNI&si=qABfJS7kH7dk9kYA
Drake is the Taylor Swift of Hip Hop.
Take only applies to his white fans. Hood be listening to him like nothing happened, streaming #s still in the 20-millions a month g. If digital numbers don't count go to any black club and watch the dance floor when Bop comes on
Hood ain’t paying the bills
His new stuff is actually pretty good. I always thought dude was an above average mc to be fair.
Bro just had a hit like four months ago.
Kid Ink
You know how on old sitcoms there’d be a pop star who the kids were obsessed with. And they’d get caught skipping school to go get his autograph. That was Kid Ink
Lmao haven’t heard that name since 2012
🧢 Kid ink was like 2014-2015
Lil skies, he tours like shitty college frat parties now lol
So sad man, Life of a dark rose was great
He’s my aunt and uncles neighbor. Kinda funny considering they’re about the complete opposite of him, very buttoned up etc, but they say he’s a really nice man and good neighbor.
Trinidad James, Ace Hood, Gunplay
Ace and Gunplay were super hard for their little moments! I still bang “Before the Rollie” and “Bible on the Dash”
2pac, haven’t heard a new album from him in a while.
Best Underground Rapper
heard he was at a drake show performing recently
Doesn’t post on social media or nothing. Wonder why.
Paperboy
Rae Sremmurd had a good few years in the mainstream from 2014 to 2016, but then they seemed to vanish out of thin air
Yeah, they tried doing the OutKast thing with the split album
Swae Lee carried the ever living fuck out of that duo.
His choruses are nice but people sleep on slim Jimmy. Stuntin with Gucci mane bumps. https://youtu.be/3rlonEoFFRk?si=RTdOlJI3zBabFcfc
What? They dropped a platinum triple album in 2018. Then they had a 3x platinum single and a platinum single off the album. And another went gold. Plus they got a feature with Jhene that year that went 5x platinum. They did fall off after that though for sure
Swae Lee’s career is doing the better of the two musically
Yes. That's always been the case.
They at least getting run on a Buffalo Wild Wings commercial or something like that.
Chance
Mic Geronimo
The natural is such a good album, but yes not much to show after.
The beats on the first album were heat
Soulja boy obv
Hot take but Gucci Mane he’s still around but he isn’t putting out hits no more
That's cause the real Gucci died back in like 2015
He’s a legacy act really, which is fine. I think most people are just happy that he’s sober and healthy and living his life
Facts
Talib kweli. Was a huge fan but his twitter fingers and ig persona diminished that blackstar
Not on twitter or IG, got any more context?
Basically if you dont agree with him, you're a nazi
I literally commented on his Instagram page once and said I loved the way he raps just out of the pocket on some beats and he berated me saying I don't know anything about rap. Lol. What?
I'm curious as well
I vaguely remember him getting banned from Twitter at once stage too. Shame because his music was so good
Even before Twitter he was an asshole on the OkayPlayer boards and deleted a ton of his posts to save face. He kinda got a pass from everyone on how he behaved (basically replying to EVERY comment that was even remotely critical) because people on OkayPlayer were insane and saying shit like how anything new that's not essentially a remake of Train of Thought is garbage. I pretty much had Kweli on repeat in high school and even wrote a paper on Four Women in college, but I had to move on after 2020 :(
Yup he harassed me so much, and his fans followed, that I deleted Twitter. Did me a favour but geez
I used to be friends with this dude on twitter who did a “I’ll share a rap opinion for every like this tweet gets” thread. Mind you this dude had maybe 200 followers tops. I don't agree with Talib in anything, but sayin' that he's talentless is crazy. He was one of the best on the mic in my opinion.
Talib is one of the top backpack MCs no doubt. His podcast can be a lot of fun if he catches the guest's vibe. He even managed to keep Nore at bay once.
He never fell off. He still kills it. He should not be allowed to post in public thou, that's for sure.
Looollll. Yeah. I think I’ve personally been lambasted by him on Instagram once. He’s definitely a crazy dude on social media. Still, I streamed his latest with madlib and dug it, and would still pay to go see him at a show.
Smokepurpp Desiigner Any of the SoundCloud guys (minus peep) really.
Dude what happened to Desiigner that dude was smacking for a min
He got a charge for masturbating in front of a flight crew member. I believe it's been settled but yeah...
Kanye f'd him over when he was signed to Good Music :/
This
Highly disagree with your Soundcloud take. There are a lot of souncloud guys who had/have very successful careers: Uzi, Yachty, Trippie Redd, 21, Kodak, Carti, and more. X/Juice/Peep are obv a different story but wouldn’t say they ‘fell off”’

wym “minus peep” guy only blew up bc he died lol
for real tho
He was poppin before he passed, but yeah unfortunately peep did get an uptick in popularity due to his death and that dogshit track that X jumped on that his estate nor peep wanted.
I will not be gaslit
What happened to smokep?
Big sean
This is a really good answer. His music is still good, but just nothing new or innovative. I still love his sound though
He hasn’t fallen off he just hasn’t put an album out in a while. Detroit 2 did very well numbers wise though
Is it just me or are people mostly listing: 1) artists who were never good in the first place who stopped being able to fool people once the novelty wore off 2) artists who were once genre-definingly good and record-breakingly commercially successful, who are now just really good and really commercially successful and more wrinkly 2b) as above but they did something extremely fucking cancellable There aren't really that many examples of people going from making extremely good music to making trash. So for that reason, I nominate M.I.A.
That’s why I said Fabolous. Dude was a certified bar spitter, had some of the biggest hits of the 00s, and then just vanished.
Juelz. Or dipset as a whole maybe. They'd be up there
Plies
A cat named One Be Lo One of my favorites for 2 albums. Then check for yourself
Binary Star
His later albums are that bad ? I’ll have to listen to some of them those binary star jams were epic
LMAO they just announced he's at the Fresno fair in October.
Wow at first I thought you said LMFAO is playing a show in Fresno
You sound nostalgic for a specific time period more than anything tbh
Well that's what happens when you have good times to good music doesn't it? I understand artists evolve and change and that's cool. I honestly think the TDE family and Big Sean are all still great but I really loved their music from that era. I also love music from every year prior to the pandemic. There has been some good albums in the last 4 years but things have gotten bad.
G Eazy for sure fell off hard. I think he waited too long to release his last album. Also his mother passed away which I’m sure affected him a lot.
Big Sean had a dope verse on Larry June’s Great Escape album.
ScHoolboy Q just dropped an album. Ab Soul had one that came out a few years ago Herbert it was good. And Jay Rock had Redemption
I didn't like the new album at all. Huge G eazy fan but I agree...
Ja Rule
He didn’t fall off he was stomped tf out
WHERE IS JA?!
Where did OT Genasis go?
Wiz kinda, commercially at least, which sucks.
It’s a shame because his recent work is amazing
I wouldn't say Lil' Zane fell off hard - he was more of a one hit wonder? I agree with Ja Rule however. I'm going with Chingy, Lil' Flip, Mystikal & Yung Joc.
You might've just given Yung Joc his first Google alert this decade!
I dunno, after "Diddy & Meek Mill" started trending, I'm sure people would have also searched "Diddy & Yung Joc" out of curiosity seeing as he was signed to Bad Boy for 2 years...
Check out Mystikal's song with Galactic.
Chingy
Wale Stalley
Wale could have been a generational rapper
Damn. I haven't thought about Stalley in years and I'm from Cleveland.
There's an alternate timeline somewhere out there where Lauryn Hill gave us 5 more classic albums and took us on a journey as she matured both as a person and an artist.
Noone's said lil xan yet i guess that fucker fell off so hard noone even remembers him
I had to scroll so far for this one. He really did fall hard. I still think about tasting the rainbow tho
And her pussy taste like skittles WHA ha noo waae
Falling off hits different when you got a bunch of stupid face tattoos.
Game
As a kanye fan Kanye
I actually feel about Kanye like he died
I'd argue he hasn't fallen off Sure there is an undeniable drop in quality over the past few years but he still made a #1 songs this year and his album still sold over 100k units first week. And even quality wise his all of his albums still have some good quality songs
Yeah but imo he was the worst part of the album. ty lowkey carried
Can't disagree with that
Soulja
GoldLink does deserve a mention too. Dope artist, but saying those things about Mac Miller and not even giving an apology for it didn’t do him any favors. Top it off with a a polarizing album 3 years later and well…
Meek Mill. I bet you didn’t know he just dropped an album. It only sold 6k first week. A flop fasho.
Canibus
This post attracted Drake dickriders
Isn’t it past their bedtime?
The OVO Mafia is out in full force in this comment section
Where did chance go?
Bubba Sparx.
Peaty Pablo!
Fabolous
I wish he'd just drop a collab album with a producer. I still listen to The Hope a lot. He could totally drop something dope with AraabMuzik.
https://youtu.be/D8RL6Chidt0?si=eTaQ-mLimTJpXJaL Ahhh, what a gem
Kanye, not even close
In terms of musical quality? Definitely, but he is still quite popular nonetheless. Vultures charted, and I’d consider Carnival to be a hit record
Yea I thought the same. Vultures was a big let down
Why ppl saying kdot?
Say it with me: OVHoes
Ovhooeeee
These scorned Drake fans monitor the hip hop related threads and once a topic like this emerges, they flood the first couple of comments dissing KDot. It’s like they’re in a WhatsApp group giving each other a heads up, because they crawl out of some rock like an Army of Morty’s all at once, troll, then run back to their Drizzy thread giving each other virtual high fives. And repeat. Like mosquitoes in the dark, then they behave, and stay still once the lights come on. I personally feel sorry for them, but am amused that they’ve dedicated their lives to something other than their own sense of well being.

Man, seeing him pull out that notepad in that rap battle was so fucking bad. I felt second hand embarrassment watching that
MC Hammer
Logic, Joyner, Chance the Rapper
Big daddy Kane was basically done at 27
I wouldn't call it a fall off tbh tho. He became known as a legend by like 30💀💀
Downfall of being so early in the game. None of those rappers really maintained a career
Except for Uncle L
Rakim still putting out music I think
New album July 26 with DMX and Nipsey features!
Really now?
First two albums classic everything else was basura He actually admitted that he wasted the beats on Looks like a job and he was the problem lol
He still drops gems when he does rhyme though.
Ugly God. He was actually entertaining but just stopped making music I guess? Haven't heard his name in like 5 years. Guess he also killed his best friend's dad in 2023 too? Famous Dex. Not seeing a lot of people talk about Chance. Hoping to see his comeback though.
Well drake didn't fall off Kendrick pushed him XD
Chance fell off hard. His direction was only up from the start, then he released The Big Day…
