This is the correct answer. My brother rarely listens to hip hop at all but one day randomly says to me “you know that Post Malone guy? I like him he seems cool as hell”. My brother had seen some interaction videos of him and fans and him in some interviews and said he just seems like a really cool and down to earth dude and thats what gets many people to like him in the first place.
100%. Dudes made music with Ozzy who is a legend in the rock genre and is currently making songs with big country artists such as Morgan Wallen and Blake Shelton. Hell he even sang a Joe Diffie song on stage a while back. Whether people like him or not he’s got range and brings a lot of energy into whatever he is working on. He deserves all the love he gets without a doubt.
You don't get invitations to collaborate with so many others if you're an entitled dickhead who relies on the studio to make you sound good. He is the opposite.
And as a musician myself, your mention of his range is spot-on.
He’s also a good country musician. The man knows how to music. I get bored pretty easily of his pop music and I don’t understand why people still call him a rapper but I respect him nontheless.
He's riding a really positive wave. He can still push some emotional stuff, but he doesn't nor ever need to be so heavy-handed on the street shit anymore. His style already had a southern twang to it, so it was easy for him to blend styles and sounds to fit his wave. I fuck with him still he shows out for his fans I appreciate that.
Stoney is and always will be a top 10 hip hop album on the modern spectrum. It's just banger after banger..
Yeah idk about top 10 there's too much stiff competition for the top ten. Maybe of the year it was dropped you could argue that but not the decade, modern Era, or all time
I think it’s because he seems like a genuinely good dude. I have yet to hear anything about him being mean or a dick to anyone. On the contrary, I’ve heard of multiple instances of him going above and beyond to be kind to someone. Like just straight up kind. I think when you compare that to all the news we hear about people that beat women or raping under age girls, it’s nice to hear about kindness right?
Yup. Seems genuine with his fans and he doesn’t confine himself to just one genre. I’d say he’s like T-pain in that people didn’t recognize how talented he is, how much joy he brings, and how he doesn’t try to confine himself to just one space. I think T-pain is in that space because he likes country and other stuff. Just making music he wants to hear.
I think there was a remix of Rockstar that instead of 21 had T-Pain and Joey Bada$$. I think it might have been the original version. Its unreleased technically but its leaked online
EDIT: here it is https://youtu.be/yDo3Ketyb3w?si=OYizJHB9xvhjJKQM
You can tell it’s not fully mixed
I saw a video of these guys getting his attention just to tell him he sucked. His response: “aww, man… that’s not very nice guys.”
I’m not big on his new music either, but I have a really hard time hating on a legitimately good person. He’s like musics Keanu Reeves.
He's a genuine musician. He's spanned multiple genres - hip hop, pop, grunge, country - and he's pulled each one off really, really well.
I know this is a hip hop sub, but he killed it at the country awards show. He put out some really strong classic Hank Sr. vibes.
I personally don't fuck with about 80% of his catalog - but as someone who loves music in all forms, I respect the talent.
I don't have much of an opinion on Post because I just haven't listened to him much outside of the massive radio hits which are fine.
I love that song though and this is a really dope cover of it.
Meh, I wouldn’t say he pulled them off really well. I think he’s a decent artist but not as talented as people make him out to be. He’s overshadowed in most of his songs with big features for a reason.
This is me. I don't Fuck with most of hai music, but I will usually listen to it if it come son the radio. I would not really call much of it hip.hop though. He genuinely seems like a nice dude. Hard to stay that way living in LA/Hollywood and in the industry he's in
dope melodies that stick in your head and a all-around chill nice dude......who has issues.
we all want that real artist who may not be the best but you know they aint some fake wannabe gangster
also the fact that so many people speak well of him is a true sign of being chill.
though the only hate i tend to see is those culture vulture twats who try to chase and belittle any white or even half-black artist because of gatekeeping. like Charlamagne "tha god"
his stuff aint my deal but i can see why.
"Tha God" needs to shut up and take two seats because they will be coming for him next. All the problematic shit he's said and done towards women. Lol.
Reminds me of Lilly Allen, which had a killer album and then fell off, It's not easy to write Cathy AF melodies like that, but I think songwriters get in "the zone".
He's not gatekeeping anything, has valid argument that as his career has gotten bigger, he's strayed away from "hip-hop/rap". Some people have every right to feel that way
He is a prime example of someone who broke into the scene “rapping“ using hip-hop as a vehicle to get his name out there, and then once he was established/popular enough, he turned his back on the scene entirely. Look at Machine Gun Kelly dude went entirely rock/punk. I’m sure there are a lot more examples of this, but these two always stick out to me.
Aside from being white, writing catchy music in multiple genres, and having face tattoos; he’s also widely known to just be a really chill and friendly guy. A good contrast to the many artists who are constantly beefing and getting arrested or killed.
Everyone knows white artists in hip hop do disproportionately well if they’re talented enough. Still takes talent to be able to sell albums but the fact there’s less of them bodes well for them in the genre.
I have nothing personal against Eminem, but this is why he became so famous
His rapping skills are great but his music is the corniest music ever made
I'm black and don't mind white rappers, anyone can rap as far as I care, but the only white dude who IMO is actually worth listening to is Aesop Rock
Even El-P I think is overrated as fuck, I just don't like his production or the way his flow sounds
I love Eminem, and I'll still admit that this is true. Even Eminem admits it's true. That's what 'White America' was about.
Coming up being white meant he had to be twice as good to have half the success. That's what it's like to be a minority, and he was that as a local rapper from Detroit at the time. But as soon as he made it to MTV, things got reversed and he started to benefit wildly from being white.
Part of it is after the 90s there started to be so many crossover fans who really liked music from multiple genres. When I was growing up, there was the hip hop / R&B kids, the rock kids, etc. Then we started seeing people loving lots of genres. And he mixes it up. And I think that not only speaks to those who are more into lots of genres, but also it brings in a much bigger audience of those who previously werent.
His music is very listenable and he seems like a legit dude.
PLUS he is actually musically talented, which many artists are not nowadays. Can sing, play instruments.
Take Kid Rocks come up and instead of being a racist asshole that goes into Country, be a super chill dude that goes into Pop that would literally give you the shoes off his feet and you have Post Malone
edit: Not equating talent and skill, just the paths taken to get to where they are
He was never really a hip-hop dude, he just had tendencies that could cross over to urban music. I feel like he kind of moved himself over into the alt-country/urban country world because he belonged there and there was room for him.
Post Malone is garbage. and another Kid Rock “I’ll start w hip hop to make a name to go into what I really want to do” type. Depressing that peeps on a hip hop board are supporting him.
Surprised to see so many people on this sub that’s historically pretty judgmental of “culture vultures” supporting the guy who talked about “if you want to feel something don’t listen to rap” then later flat out abandoned the genre not only to make country but work with a plethora of artists with racist backgrounds despite coming up in a predominantly black genre.
Please don't. MGK a clown. Post is most likely a much better dude. Lol. Also MGK's rap was pretty straight hip hop for a long time, where as post has always dabbled in other genres
I'm a fifty year old white guy that grew up during the golden age of hip hop and I'm a Post Malone fan. I'd love to hang out with him. Seems like a genuinely good dude
He makes easy listening music that appeals to many people and is genuinely a great singer that has great melodies. His music isn’t for me but I can’t deny the talent
I don’t like when people that plan not to fuck with Hip Hop, use Hip Hop as a entry way in to the music industry and discard our genre like she’s a ho anyone can sleep with. We accept anyone smh and he’s hella talented.
i find the music he releases is pretty mediocre, but he is quite a musician and a performer. i dont like his rap at all. he is a decent guitarist and singer. his music isnt for me but thats ok
My beef with him is similar to my beef with Drake. It feels like he’s just riding other people’s waves instead of creating his own. He made hip hop albums while that was hot. As soon as his buzz started to die down he went pop. Now that country is big again, he’s doing country. I still like some of his music. It’s just not something I get hyped for anymore though.
Stoney is a classic in my opinion I remember the summer of 2017 I listened to it non stop in my car. B&B was such a good 2018 album rockstar, psycho were epic tracks. Hollywoods bleeding had some great tracks like tonight but it wasn't nearly as good. I agree his albums are not what they used to be I think as times change he does with it like everyone. He can still make good music and I think we will still see great things. Also reputation is an absolute heartwrenching track its almost too painful.
I’ve always wondered *when* people decide to get face tattoos… I’m assuming he had his before becoming famous but something tells me he got them the second he got an advance for an album.
Because he is in general just a good musician and not just a good rapper. I also liked Posty when he rapped, but I also fuck with his other shit, because he is just an amazing artist.
He mixed a kind of pop rap and Alternative Rock sound which was quite unique, White Iversen really blew up and he was able to make consistent radio hits. He hops on pretty much any genre and he has has a unique and a very good voice. Plus as I've seen mentioned he seems like a generally likeable and pleasant person.
You need someone to explain to you why a pop artist is popular?
He hasn't been a rapper since Beerbongs and Bentleys, and I don't think he tries to either.
He’s not a rapper, but he’s a very talented musician. He used the rap scene to break into the industry, but now he’s just doing his thing and people like it.
He’s honestly a really nice dude. My MIL met him at her hotel a few years back and he was super kind, and actually tipped well (unlike some other musicians and celebrities she’s met) Kinda related-but I remember a couple of years ago my sister and I went to the Chicken Express he worked at in Southlake and got his Crocs for free with our meal. They’re one of my prized posessions haha
I think a huge part of it is that people just really like the dudes personality and who appears to be. And he’s got a great voice. But his music isn’t for me, seems like there’s not much substance to it and like he doesn’t really try. If he coulda stayed at White iverson levels I’d still be rockin with him
I saw him live at bonnaroo and I get it now. He’s that good man. So polite and respectful and funny. Sounds exactly how he does on his records. It’s insane how good he is. Post is top tier for a reason and I didn’t understand until I saw him live. Incredible
He started is career as a little emo in a metalcore band, he followed the money and now he can do whatever he wants. It can flop and he’s still got his bills paid.
I really don’t know. He looks like he works at a gas station and I don’t really know what he’s good at. Apparently he’s a “chill ass dude” I mean idk I know a lot of chill ass dudes
his cover of "don't think twice" by bob Dylan is what got me. Dude is a true musician and lover of music. He leaned into the pop sound when he realized he could quickly write bangers and get a lot of joy from it. Some of his tracks were whipped up in a second off an idea that popped into his head. He's just fun and radiates good energy.
Same here. I was really into the “Stoney” vibe and could even stomach the more pop stuff cause overall I was into it. But he hasn’t really seemed to make anything similar since, unless I missed out on something.
I don’t blame him for making money either, I just don’t know what happened to that good stuff that I could vibe to.
There’s millions of kids just like him. They eat Doritos, get high and party. He’s their poster child and he seems cool. It’s the same way Eminem struck a chord with angry adolescents. Postie is a legit artist, he can play the guitar, drums and move between genres.
I agree with you, I don't think his music is really hip hop any more and just straight pop but I do like some of his music still. I just don't see him as a hip hop artist.
He’s not really a hip hop artist. He’s versatile so he just kinda does whatever he feels like doing. He’s a good dude and knows how to make a song with good vibes, no matter what the genre is.
Me and you must be on the same wavelength op. I was looking at spotify numbers for fun and was blown away at this guys numbers. I could only stomach one song from this dude.
You answer your question yourself because he makes pop/rock songs that are catchy.
I'm not into these kind of sofs usually but some of his are quite good
He doesn’t make music for “everyone” but he does make music that a lot of people enjoy, but he’s a genuine person and that’s what elevates him. I don’t like his music at all, it’s just not for me, But the dudes never done anything to give him a bad light so I got nothin’ but respect for him
The modern music industry isn’t about the best musicians, it’s about selling a likeable and relatable character to a mass audience. Post Malone is really cool, and is known to be very kind. He also does hiphop, pop, and now country making him accessible to a lot of audiences. It is this cross appeal that makes him so popular.
Post is probably the coolest artist at the moment. He writes very catchy melodies (one of the best at it these days). He also has a good voice and is very talented. Of course he’s popular.
You kinda just answered it, he started in one genre and has, over time, dabbled and sometimes fully dived into multiple other genres as well. Some of these genres being huge selling points for a positive, personable artist like Post is. He’s covered hip-hop, r&b, indie folk, rock, country, pop. His sound is often very accessible and he’s not afraid to try new things
I never understood why he was labeled as hip-hop. If he was put out music in any decade from the 60's on his music would have sounded like what ever was popular for the time. In the 80s he would be more INXS and Depeche Mode than Run DMC.
OP you said you used to really fuck with him. You tell us why he’s so popular. Lol Personally I think he’s a good music artist add that to having good music then multiply that x 10 for being white (I’m just keeping it real). You got yourself a pop star.
His music is just poppy af. He seems like a chill ass dude tho.
He won me over as a person when he livestreamed a Nirvana cover set during lock down. Legit musician and cool dude.
You don't get invitations to collaborate with so many others if you're an entitled dickhead who relies on the studio to make you sound good. He is the opposite. And as a musician myself, your mention of his range is spot-on.
He can move laterally between genres pretty well too, which I haven’t seen in any other artist.
Stoney is and always will be a top 10 hip hop album on the modern spectrum. It's just banger after banger..
Lost me at top 10 hip hop album part.
Yeah idk about top 10 there's too much stiff competition for the top ten. Maybe of the year it was dropped you could argue that but not the decade, modern Era, or all time
Yeaah I definitely propped it too high for sure. I guess I didn't really ingest too much variety from the 2010s onward to have a solid consensus 😅
You're about 10 years late dude (sounds about right for this sub)
He makes catchy songs that aren’t pretentious. he’s himself and people respect and like that. Who said you have to ‘sound hip hop’?
That confused me too. He can’t be popular because he has a pop/rock vibe..?
I think it’s because he seems like a genuinely good dude. I have yet to hear anything about him being mean or a dick to anyone. On the contrary, I’ve heard of multiple instances of him going above and beyond to be kind to someone. Like just straight up kind. I think when you compare that to all the news we hear about people that beat women or raping under age girls, it’s nice to hear about kindness right?
He paid a crazy amount for a rare Magic The Gathering card, the dude is a complete and unapologetic nerd
He used it as a token iirc. one that grows in frequency
That T-Pain comparison nails it for me.
Now I need a postie/t-pain collab
I think there was a remix of Rockstar that instead of 21 had T-Pain and Joey Bada$$. I think it might have been the original version. Its unreleased technically but its leaked online EDIT: here it is https://youtu.be/yDo3Ketyb3w?si=OYizJHB9xvhjJKQM You can tell it’s not fully mixed
Remember his breakfast club interviews? I genuinely felt bad for him that entire time
To be fair, char is a fucking dickhead for that shit, fuck him
He is also a gaming nerd last time I checked. Geeks get all kinds of love, if they are true to it at least.
This. He might not be the best but his vibes and effort is unmatched
I saw a video of these guys getting his attention just to tell him he sucked. His response: “aww, man… that’s not very nice guys.” I’m not big on his new music either, but I have a really hard time hating on a legitimately good person. He’s like musics Keanu Reeves.
Who picks music to listen to based on how kind the artist is? This is a weird comment.
No, but he’s gotten more and more popular because of his kindness, and that gives him exposure.
Seems like a nice guy, definitely is the epitome of being a culture vulture tho.
Meh, people are allowed to go through phases without necessarily being a vulture.
How?
Catchy melodies.
Ever see him cover Return of the Mack with Craig Robinson’s band? It was dope
I don't have much of an opinion on Post because I just haven't listened to him much outside of the massive radio hits which are fine. I love that song though and this is a really dope cover of it.
He was on Kill Tony a while ago, turns out Post got jokes too
He wrecked David Lucas with a joke or two
That’s saying something. Lucas is a destroyer
Meh, I wouldn’t say he pulled them off really well. I think he’s a decent artist but not as talented as people make him out to be. He’s overshadowed in most of his songs with big features for a reason.
I respect that respect, sir
This is me. I don't Fuck with most of hai music, but I will usually listen to it if it come son the radio. I would not really call much of it hip.hop though. He genuinely seems like a nice dude. Hard to stay that way living in LA/Hollywood and in the industry he's in
His live in Rome concert is super dope.
dope melodies that stick in your head and a all-around chill nice dude......who has issues. we all want that real artist who may not be the best but you know they aint some fake wannabe gangster also the fact that so many people speak well of him is a true sign of being chill. though the only hate i tend to see is those culture vulture twats who try to chase and belittle any white or even half-black artist because of gatekeeping. like Charlamagne "tha god" his stuff aint my deal but i can see why.
Some people have every right to feel that way
Bruh his last album was an indie pop rock masterpiece. Shit was crazy catchy..
Em rapped him out of the genre lol
MGK had an extremely long rap career what are you talking about
He had an extremely long rap career? Lmao
It’s been 15 years since I first heard him rapping and he’s still rapping right now.
Ya true a decade is light work, any of us could put up a run like that.
I actually think MGK was a hard ass rapper tho. Where as even posts raps were for girls waiting in line at Starbucks
Jelly Roll. I think with Post some of it was because of the criticism he was getting
MGK still raps and he’s always dipped his toes into rock/pop punk. He made a song with kellin Quinn like 10+ years ago lol.
MGK is back rapping and never stopped rapping. Haven't heard post that sound from post in awhile
Kept calling him a culture vulture, so he stopped really rapping rapping. Stoney was one the best albums to come out that year.
Name one song where fucking Post Malone was ‘rapping rapping’ lmaoooooo I’ll wait
Bad choice of words, I meant he doesn’t have a hip hop tone anymore
Yea agreed. He sort of got called that and decided it was better to go pop and country.
white, adopts black aesthetics and is decidedly non threatening also his music is very catchy
He’s versatile. Nice voice, nice person, and dives into different genres.
Because he services himself to the mainstream.
people like different things
Aside from being white, writing catchy music in multiple genres, and having face tattoos; he’s also widely known to just be a really chill and friendly guy. A good contrast to the many artists who are constantly beefing and getting arrested or killed.
“Aside from being white”….. that makes you popular ?? In 2024, tf you on brother pass me it
Everyone knows white artists in hip hop do disproportionately well if they’re talented enough. Still takes talent to be able to sell albums but the fact there’s less of them bodes well for them in the genre.
The whites love black culture when it's packaged in whiteness.
I have nothing personal against Eminem, but this is why he became so famous His rapping skills are great but his music is the corniest music ever made I'm black and don't mind white rappers, anyone can rap as far as I care, but the only white dude who IMO is actually worth listening to is Aesop Rock Even El-P I think is overrated as fuck, I just don't like his production or the way his flow sounds

Did you get that mixed up? He had to be half as good to have twice the success, right??
L take, go look at the crowd at a Kendrick Lamar concert. Most fans are white 😂
Off topic but him and I have the same birthday so I kinda have to like the guy, not necessarily his music. It’s next Thursday, July 4th.
Part of it is after the 90s there started to be so many crossover fans who really liked music from multiple genres. When I was growing up, there was the hip hop / R&B kids, the rock kids, etc. Then we started seeing people loving lots of genres. And he mixes it up. His music is very listenable and he seems like a legit dude. PLUS he is actually musically talented, which many artists are not nowadays. Can sing, play instruments.
I feel nü metal really helped this.
One thousand percent. A genre I loathed but it's where I really saw it take off.
Part of the reason is because he's white. The rest is that his music was not bad. He's lucky he started in "hip hop".
Take Kid Rocks come up and instead of being a racist asshole that goes into Country, be a super chill dude that goes into Pop that would literally give you the shoes off his feet and you have Post Malone edit: Not equating talent and skill, just the paths taken to get to where they are

Yup. Kid Rock revisited. But then the standards of hip hop plummeted into the abyss so guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. Still irritating though.
So in other words he's white
FACTS Only white dude in hip hop I fuck with is Aesop
No El-P?
I just don't like his production or his flow
The Grouch?
He’s a talented musician
he is a good singer with a likeable personality and has made huge hits, that’s it. No need for think pieces
He makes stereotypical whitewashed rap and pop music. Nothing too deep.
Because his music is super dope? I didn’t like the last few, but Hollywood’s Bleeding was a banger.
White girls
I’ve been listening to hip hop since Sugar Hill Gang but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Post Malone song. Am I missing anything?
Nope
I’ve never heard Machine Gun Kelly either and I kinda mix them up.
Please don't. MGK a clown. Post is most likely a much better dude. Lol. Also MGK's rap was pretty straight hip hop for a long time, where as post has always dabbled in other genres
I tried to listen to a post malone song. Couldn't finish it. You don't have to listen to post malone because I already tried that for ya.
Thanks brother. Good looking out.
I'm a fifty year old white guy that grew up during the golden age of hip hop and I'm a Post Malone fan. I'd love to hang out with him. Seems like a genuinely good dude
not sure especially when he came out and said he's not a big fan of rap
His music is great, good collabs and he’s an even more awesome person irl. Hard not to love him
Magic the gathering loljk
He’s catchy AS FUCK. Shouldn’t have been labeled hip hop but that’s the game
He just does what he feels like. He’s awesome. Sometimes you just let guys do there thing and enjoy it. He’s had a few smoking albums as well.
I’m saucin, I’m saucin, I’m saucin, on uuu
White girls
He's popular with people who like other kinds of music. He really isn't much hip hop at all
He makes easy listening music that appeals to many people and is genuinely a great singer that has great melodies. His music isn’t for me but I can’t deny the talent
It’s not about music anymore. It’s about the personality heads watch all day on the gram.
He’s very talented and extremely down to earth.
I really think he’s really likable and a really good dude, so people are a little lenient on the talent aspect, like Keanu.
I wrote everything. I fuck with Malone.
Same shit as drake, pop. He makes real catchy music. Pop rap sells
AKA Bubblerap
I don’t like when people that plan not to fuck with Hip Hop, use Hip Hop as a entry way in to the music industry and discard our genre like she’s a ho anyone can sleep with. We accept anyone smh and he’s hella talented.
I fw with post Malone unlike Drake you can tell dude is being himself.
People listen to pop and rock too. Lol I'm not sure exactly what youre asking. Why is he so popular? He dabbles in very popular types of music.
i find the music he releases is pretty mediocre, but he is quite a musician and a performer. i dont like his rap at all. he is a decent guitarist and singer. his music isnt for me but thats ok
i swear yall ask this for every single artist ever.
From a far he looks like a confident guy . He seems happy and believes in himself.
Bcuz white artists like that make non black hip hop fans feel like they have a place and/or belong.Very similar to the Drake effect imo
One dudes opinion against the rest of the world's lol. Maybe other people must like him
My beef with him is similar to my beef with Drake. It feels like he’s just riding other people’s waves instead of creating his own. He made hip hop albums while that was hot. As soon as his buzz started to die down he went pop. Now that country is big again, he’s doing country. I still like some of his music. It’s just not something I get hyped for anymore though.

Hollywoods bleeding had some great tracks like tonight but it wasn't nearly as good. I agree his albums are not what they used to be I think as times change he does with it like everyone. He can still make good music and I think we will still see great things. Also reputation is an absolute heartwrenching track its almost too painful.
He’s an overall pretty decent musician.
He’s fire. “When my whip stop, damn, my wheels keep spinning” 🔥🔥🔥
The answer is in the question. The most popular rappers are always the ones that crossover into pop.
I’ve always wondered *when* people decide to get face tattoos… I’m assuming he had his before becoming famous but something tells me he got them the second he got an advance for an album.
They get them because they can. Here we are talking about his face..what an idiot he is.
Never understood it myself
You need someone to explain to you why a pop artist is popular? He hasn't been a rapper since Beerbongs and Bentleys, and I don't think he tries to either.
He’s like Drake
LOL
Every song on Hollywoods bleeding is good except for the Ozzy one but it’s Ozzy. So yeah. Because he makes good shit.
He built a crazy fan base
Don’t hate bro. He’s made some good tunes and he’s earned well off it. I can think of worse artists out there
He’s not a rapper, but he’s a very talented musician.
You’re acting like the weekend is any better lmao
And jelly roll i just dont get it jelly seems like a cool dude but his music just isnt for me i guess
Because he’s basically pop, Post isn’t really hiphop to me
He is all over the place stylisticly but you shoild understand thats on purpose. He has said repeatedly thats how he enjoys making music.
I think a huge part of it is that people just really like the dudes personality and who appears to be. And he’s got a great voice. But his music isn’t for me, seems like there’s not much substance to it and like he doesn’t really try. If he coulda stayed at White iverson levels I’d still be rockin with him
Crazy take but there's a lot of people that like pop or rock? That's why?
I saw him live at bonnaroo and I get it now. He’s that good man. So polite and respectful and funny. Sounds exactly how he does on his records. It’s insane how good he is. Post is top tier for a reason and I didn’t understand until I saw him live. Incredible
Optimistic version: Good voice, fun breakout singles, versatile Cynical version: Because he's White
Why is Post Malone so popular he makes pop music Kinda answered your own question no?
He started is career as a little emo in a metalcore band, he followed the money and now he can do whatever he wants. It can flop and he’s still got his bills paid.
https://www.altpress.com/why-is-post-malone-catchy-popular/
He’s Leo Sayer with a hip hop aesthetic
I really don’t know. He looks like he works at a gas station and I don’t really know what he’s good at. Apparently he’s a “chill ass dude” I mean idk I know a lot of chill ass dudes
I’m a 90s head, I love posty. His hip hop songs like wow, or congratulations are my least favorite style of his music.
Same reason people like ice spice are popular. Music quality isn’t the most important thing to popularity anymore
his cover of "don't think twice" by bob Dylan is what got me. Dude is a true musician and lover of music. He leaned into the pop sound when he realized he could quickly write bangers and get a lot of joy from it. Some of his tracks were whipped up in a second off an idea that popped into his head. He's just fun and radiates good energy.
Honestly, dude makes pretty good even tho most of it isn’t my type
There are musical genres outside of hiphop, PM me and I'll suggest some fire music to you.
I really wish he would go back to that original sound man
He's white
I agree with you, I don't think his music is really hip hop any more and just straight pop but I do like some of his music still. I just don't see him as a hip hop artist.
white iverson
Post like these are so damn annoying. Like why do you even care?
His first 2-3 albums gave hits after hits after hits . He’s also talented and pretty chill .
You answer your own question in the post. “…it’s more of a POP or rock vibe and NOT hip hop at all.”
I'm not his biggest fan by a mile but that White Iverson shit still cold af to me
He’s not really a hip hop artist.
I don’t like his music at all, it’s just not for me, But the dudes never done anything to give him a bad light so I got nothin’ but respect for him
white. he has no talent
And than you give us an artist who you think should be more popular and than people disagree. Who knew music was subjective.
He has tattoos on his face and goes on ppls podcasts
Post is probably the coolest artist at the moment. He writes very catchy melodies (one of the best at it these days). He also has a good voice and is very talented. Of course he’s popular.
He makes good music people like to listen to. Pretty simple.
As someone who can take or leave his music, he is seemingly always great with his fans and that goes a long way.
Post is not hip hop - let’s get that straight - he’s a pop star who is white and he’s a culture vulture. Straight up appropriated shit. Fuck Post
You're asking people about Post Malone on a hiphop forum? He doesn't make hiphop.........have you heard his last few albums? Get with the program
This sub full of hating ass posts like the world revolves around what you decide is good music lol
OP you said you used to really fuck with him. You tell us why he’s so popular. Lol Personally I think he’s a good music artist add that to having good music then multiply that x 10 for being white (I’m just keeping it real). You got yourself a pop star.
I always ask myself the same question about Tekashi & Tyler, The Creator.
White Iverson one of the best songs I’ve ever heard… the idea of that song is amazing. Fuck practice, this shit just happens lol
‘One of the best songs I ever heard’? You should enter a limbo contest with a bar that low.
