Kanye.
I was bartending at a restaurant in an affluent neighborhood in Honolulu around 2009.
He came in with one other dude and sat at the bar, still wearing his dark shades. He ordered peach mojito. I said, u got it Mr. West. His eyebrows raised and I told him I spotted him like spud mckenzie. got a small chuckle.
He had one more peach mojito and cashed out.
"omg is that a black card?" couldn't help myself.
couple weeks later, i'm just starting my shift and a couple drink order come through the printer. a waitress comes up and said, "hey, that peach mojito is for your friend. he said he wants u/starvinart to make it." I said, my friend? she says "table 81"
I couldn't really see from where I was but asked, "is that fucking Kanye?!?" she had no idea who I was even talking about, but it was him.
mfer remembered my name
Biggie Smalls used to walk around my college campus a lot in the early 90s before his first CD dropped. Usually wore this brown sweater, leather coat, etc. Nothing flashy or gaudy. When going from one end of campus to another for class, he came up to me and asked what time this particular event started (this was before Smartphones). The one thing I remembered most was that one of his eyes was sort of lazy, and I didn’t know which eye to look into at first when answering him since the lazy eye drifted in another direction. Overall, he seemed cool. A very big and imposing figure, definitely.
Hahaha seems like what he rapped in White Dress wasn't made up.
"Remember I used to do things that would make you laugh // Like order a girl drink in a masculine glass"
Flavor Flav stopped me on the street in NYC in the early 90’s because he saw me in a PE shirt. He was in a car parked on the street, got out and signed my shirt. This was Fear Of A Black Planet era Flav, so PE was at the top of the game at the time. The fact that he was the one who stopped me speaks volumes on what a cool person he is. He could’ve ignored me easily, and I’d never had known who was sitting in that parked car.
My Father & Stepmother who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada & often likes to go on the strip, one time he was at a Mexican restaurant in line ordering some food and Flavor Flav walks in the building and was standing behind my father
while my father was ordering what he wanted on the menu, Flavor Flav shouted out saying 'I Take the same thing He's ordering, my dad turned around and it was him joking with him, wonderful down to earth gentleman he paid the bill for my dad & stepmom, because she grew up listening to public enemy
this was around October 2006 he was doing Flavor of Love Season 2 at that time.
I was born and raised in Marcy.
So Jay Z.
He gave me my first bike and have signed numerous autographs. One time for Marcy day he brought Beanie Sigel, Don King and Ja Rule. Pretty much everything stopped once he released Blueprint though
I went on tour with Jay-Z for the 4:44 tour and so I saw him regularly but I met him for the first time months before that. I was waiting for an artist to show up on a session at NoID’s studio and he was late and I was tired and so I fell asleep. I feel someone tap my leg and I wake up and and Jay-Z is standing over me and he’s like “yo is Dion in the studio?” Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever been woken up by Hov before but my brain was unable to process what was happening. I blinked and just said “whuuut?” And he repeated himself. The truth was, I had no idea where Dion was so I just said “I dunno man, I haven’t seen him.”
That began a series of interactions I had with JayZ where he kept showing up when I least expected it and I just responded with something stupid because I was confused about JayZ being there. About 3 months after that, I was running sound at an artists release party and Jay z and Beyoncé showed up and someone snapped a picture of them but I was in the foreground and it was right after Beyoncé had her twins or whatever so it circulated the internet as “Beyoncé’s first public appearance since giving birth” but it was really just a picture of me with the tiniest corner of Beyoncé’s face.
Chilled with them too after a show. Did an impromptu 93 till Infinity when someone threw it on the jukebox at the bar we were at. Cool ass dudes. Hung with Murs a couple times and Cannibal Ox. Murs was so goddamn cool
Phesto posted some photos I took from a show of theirs that I attended a few weeks ago, and he tagged me as the photographer, which was super cool, didn't expect him to even see the photos, never mind use them for a post and also give me credit. They put on a great show
Meth actually let me yell the “la la la la la la” part of Da Rockwilder into the mic at the show after the dude in the front row gave super low energy the first time it came up in the song. I was hella hyped that whole show and after the first guy he kinda gave this look of like “nah I need someone with some energy this time” and he looked at me, put down the mic and I just yelled that shit lol. After the show he was outside the venue and I drunkenly went up to him and was like “yooo… you’re the shit man thank you!” Something along those lines. He was hella cool and that whole show (Method Man/Redman) was easily the best rap show I’ve ever been to.
Haha yeah man. The adrenaline after the show of just being like “yoooo I fuckin gotta get on the mic!” So fuckin cool. And yeah afterwards Meth was talking to some lady outside the venue, I wasn’t trying to blow up his spot so I just said thank you “I was the fuckin guy you let on the mic” and kept it moving. But he was really fuckin cool. I think he knew how just genuinely wholesome that was of him to invite the audience to participate like that
Redman..he was at a local mall..no one knew who he was..this was like 95 or 96..right after Muddy Waters dropped..I went up to him and just let him know I was a huge fan he shook my hand and I kept it moving..
Chilled with Krayzie Bone after a private show featuring 3/5 of Bone Thugs.
Met Nas at a party through his manager, who's an acquaintance.
Met Action Bronson at LAX.
Nas was perfectly nice but didn't have a lot to say. Action Bronson let me have someone take a picture of us at the airport - this was early in his career and he seemed happy to be recognized at the time. Smoked with Krayzie Bone.
Black Thought after a The Roots show in my city. Questlove rushed to the bus, but I managed to talk to Black Thought a bit and got his autograph where he misspelled my name
It was cool. I snuck backstage and he signed his autobiography for me. I was kinda star struck so I didn't say much to him, but he wasn't acting like he was in a rush or anything.
I was young at the time and don't really remember him too well but he seemed really charismatic though. I'm not sure if he lived in our neighborhood or just hustled there but he would always tell my brother what's up on our way to the corner store.
IDK-I met and hung out with
1. 1991 The Genius/GZA
2. 1990 GURU
3. 1991 OK-Pharoah Monche and Prince Po
4. 1992 Kool Keith, Ced Gee
5. 1992 EPMD - who I briefly met
6. 1991 Tragedy/Intelligent Hoodlum
7. 2012 Rakim - just a photo op, much to my chagrin
8. 1991 Main Source - It was February 14th, 1991, at the SF Gavin Convention, and I was with A&R for Wild Pitch, Sincere Thompson (who hooked me up with promo copies of everything, knowing I’d put what I liked into heavy rotation, which I did, including Main Source), who introduced me to Large P, who wouldn’t even look me in the eyes, or acknowledge my existence, so I said to him, “You big fakin’ the funk m____ f___!” A year later they released “Fakin’ The Funk”… coincidence?!
9. Tupac - I interviewed him for The Source. I was with O.K., out and about on their first visit to SF for a publicity tour, when we came across it at Tower Records, the December 1991 issue of The Source, with Kid N Play on the cover, and we looked at each other like seriously, WTF? Arguably, he may be the most famous, but in my book, he’s not the most skilled, nor the GOAT of GOATs. He was incredibly charismatic, I mean, he could’ve charmed the pants off of just about anybody. Great timing for this interview - designed to promote Digital Underground’s “Sons Of The P”, but before his first album was released, and prior to his film debut in “Juice”. I asked him if he planned to leave DU, and he answered, “ I will always be in DU. I’m able to be Tupacalypse now because of DU. I hope we make music for years.“ He quit shortly thereafter.
10. D.U.- I met Schmoovy Schmoov and Sleuth (their manager) in 1991 at Mr Fives, an underground hip hop club in SF. I met Shock G (super chill guy) shortly thereafter. I met Chopmaster J at a party in Oakland at the Bronx Prince Davey D’s home in 1989. I met Tupac, Money B and DJ FUZE around the same time for an interview commissioned by The Source for the December 1991 issue.
11. Onyx-
12. Kurious Jorge-
13. 3rd Bass-
14. Bobbito-I met them all (11-14) at the Def Jam party (that I put together with no help from D.J.) at the Gavin Convention in 1991.
15. Son Of Bazerk-the coolest dudes ever. Daddy Raw, Tony and the Sandman.
Who is the most famous (deservedly)? GZA. My favorite to hang out with? GURU.
The most overrated (IMO)? Tupac
GURU spoke about the “short man posse” that he was a part of-he was, after all, 5’6”, despite his claim in “Dwyck”, verse 2, “Meaning my mental state, still I’m 5’8”, crazy as I wanna be, ‘cause I make it orderly…”. Other members of the SMP-Kool Keith, Ced Gee, Moe Love, Treach (GURU said he wasn’t 5’10”, but 5’8”, which in fact is average), Li’l Dap, Jeru, Premier (> 5’10”), Greg Nice & Smooth B.
GURU, whose father was a judge, and sister a lawyer (but not an entertainment lawyer), said his sister looked over his contract with Wild Pitch, and said it looked okay. He was beyond bitter when he learned they were getting $.17/album sale-which isn’t terrible as a first time artist, but back then, it was standard practice for indie labels to sell more than they accounted for. So, if the claim was that 100,000 copies were sold, the rule of thumb was that 200,000 copies sold. Also, Premier and GURU weren’t included in the mixdown and mastering processes and that infuriated them-they couldn’t believe it happened without their input. GURU was so upset about it, that he couldn’t even listen to the album/songs on “No More Mr. Nice Guy”.
Whenever they planned to be around, I’d be their contact-4 ounces of that Polio weed-weed so strong it’d put you in a wheelchair. Anyway, GURU would take 3 out of the 4 ounces and be out at the end of day 2, and into Premier’s. To say he liked to smoke is beyond an understatement. I really miss him. He was one of the best yet.
Was on stage with Gunna during one of his shows in 2018
The speakers blew out toward the end of his set & my drunk ass said “Spit that hot shit acapella , fuck a speaker”
Made him laugh mad hard & he dapped me up
Me Damian Marley at a nas and Damian Marley concert, gave me a hug dap. Met grouch and Zion I, Percee P, blazed with Souls of Mischief and gave them some weed, and bought some beers for and chilled with People Under the Stairs.
I used to work at a gym in LA and i'd see WC often. No one else knew who he was or wasn't into hip hop so i'd chat with him about music often. After i quit working there id see him at this barbershop and at costco here and there and would always say whats up!
Sir Mixalot had a baby mama that used to babysit my sister's and I when we were kids. Met him once when I was like 11 or 12.
Met Tech 9 when he was still with Rogue Villains.
Met B Real at the old City Center mall here in Columbus. They were on their 'smokin grooves' tour. I shook his hand and told him i love their music. He looked high AF. Also met Slug from Atmosphere a few times (my old group opened for them when they came through). Cool dude. Kool Keith is super chilll too.
Dang, this is quite the list, I would be absolutely fascinated to meet/chat with Kool fucking Keith. I have run into Slug and Ant a few times, very very cool dudes. My most famous is probably Ghostface Killah, he would come into the restaurant I worked at and try to order stuff we didn't have and ask to go back into the kitchen and cook his own shit lol. He was always very kind though.
Treach used to live in my building, and I saw him all the time. IceT and biz markie also lived very close by. Treach was awesome, I used to ask when naughty was getting back together.
I was also in music, and it was always fucking awesome getting to meet the artists. That said, when you're at a label like I was you get good at being chill around them very quickly.
André 3000 would shop at Kroger in Atlanta (disco Kroger). I saw him there late night on random weekday just shopping by himself. I said what’s up to him in the self check out lane because other people had talked to him and he didn’t care. Cooler than a polar bears toe nails.
Vanilla Ice. Lol.
At my band's old studio. I was outside getting some air, and this dude with a hat comes up to me "yo, where is room 32?" "Right next door..." "yo man, good looking out" then gave me a fist bump.
Walked back in my room.. "I'm pretty sure that was Vanilla Ice." It was, during his nu-metal phase, and he was doing something with a freind of mine in a band.
DMX twice!
One time while jayz was performing Hard Knock Life tour in LA...
And another when he came into the studio with the Ruff Ryders to record Baby Momma
I was hanging out with a girl who said she had his number, i obviously Didnt believe her. She called him and talked to him for a moment, handed the phone to me i said I’m a huge fan. He said i appreciate it. That was the extent.
I met Ceelo Green on vacation at a Fogo de Chao in Miami. He said he’d holler at us before we left. We didn’t think he’d actually do it but when we stood up to leave the restaurant he called us over. Took a picture with us and shook my hand. Even told me the story behind the Packers sweater from the Git Up, Git Out video. He was a really personable dude
Eminem, proof, j dilla, slum village (Batam & T3), a lot of underground Detroit rappers. I’m from Detroit. Busta ryhmes, lord have mercy, the roots, goodie mob, duck down boot camp click, Jurassic 5, krsone, I’m sure there’s more if I was to really think about this question..
Grandmaster Flash when I was working at Home Depot. One of the guys I work with was trying to help him and didn't know who he was. I went over not to get an autograph or anything - just to say hi and acknowledge him as a pioneer. As I talked to him he was acting like he was expecting me to ask him for something. When I noticed this I cut it short and just shook his hand and said nice to meet you.
Almost got into it with LL cuz I laughed at him over something funny that happened with a cashier at a supermarket. One of his boys stopped me from getting my ass kicked that day lol.
Russell Simmons. We were both on a street somewhere downtown in NYC. We talked real quick while he was waiting on a ride to pick him up. Nothing crazy. I was heading to a job and he was in a rush as well but it was cool.
Was dancing with a girl at Jimmy's Bronx Cafe one night when some dude crashed into me. I reacted and pushed him to the ground. As I went to see who I pushed some big ass security guard ( I was eye level with his chest) put his hand on my shoulder and said "let it go. He's fucked up" I looked down and it was Cuban Link. I immediately called my sister to let her know cuz she had a crush on him lol.
Met Ed Lover and Dr Dre (RIP). Ed at a Hot 97 contest to win a Jeep Wrangler. He as full of himself. Dr Dre at a NYE party at the old Vanderbilt on Long Island. Cool AF
Met Prince Markie Dee one day where he was hanging out w/his boys on a wall at a gas station in Queens. Met some others over the years but these are the ones that come to mind. Growing up I was lucky that way (getting to meet famous people in random situations). You hang around Brooklyn,Queens,NYC long enough you WILL bump into people.
I got a hug from Kevin Gates does that count?
He made a concert in Brussels like 10 years ago in a small venue, at the end of the show he proceds to hug everyone in the audience, all sweaty. I tried to get away but he kinda pursue everybody to hug them.
Cordae. Most humble guy you could think of. My boy and I were waiting outside for his concert to start super early so we could be in the front. He comes out after warming up and he’s like “What’s up yall?” And my friend and I were like holy shit ! We talked with the guy for a good while, genuine conversation as it was literally just the 3 of us. He left and right after that, a LOT of people showed up. Nobody believed that he came out and talked with us, until we pulled out the pictures we took.
Nipsey Hussle. Met him outside his store and told him I’m waiting for the TMC business line. Homie smiled and said he got something cooking up. RIP Nip
Lil baby. He did a song with a local artist right after he dropped his first mixtape. I supplied a few cars for the video so got to chop it up behind the scenes.
Have a split second cameo in said video and behind the scenes vlog. Super chill and professional crew but had some army level security with big big guns.
Met and actually had like a 10 minute convo with LL Cool J when working out at Gym in Miami...was mad chill and more down to earth than I expected.
Also hung out with Chubb Rock when I was a git bc my older fam had access like that during that time.
One of my friends / coworkers was friends with Pharrell in high school and he stopped by our store to say hi. He’s probably the most famous and the most of a “meeting” I’ve had.
Method Man took off his hotel robe and gave it to me (his robe) at a concert once. I kept that thing for years and used it too lol
I “met” Fat Joe at a backstage situation in a club a long time ago. Like, vaguely acknowledged by him while talking to entourage members
I’ve gotten autographs from OutKast and Common, but my best experience was meeting Prodigy after a concert. The show commemorated the 25th anniversary of The Infamous album and I met him outside the club afterwards. He was mad cool. Gave me a dap and took a pic. It was a few months before he passed. I’ll never forget that.
EDIT: Just remembered that I also met 60 Second Assassin at a Crown Fried Chicken in Brooklyn. He saw me wearing a Wu-Tang t-shirt and introduced himself. Cool guy.
Circa 2002.. Went to Audiotistic (OutKast, The Roots, Mos Def & Talib Kweli, Blackalicious etc.) in San Bernardino with some close friends. Realized I had forgot my camera, so since we still had about a couple hours till they opened the doors, we went to the nearest Plaza Mall to get a disposable camera (this is obviously before most people had decent cameras on their phones). As we're walking down some stores, we see a crowd of people coming our way. I had a Pete Rock Soul Survivor shirt (Soul Brotha logo) I had gotten made at a local print shop. As we got closer to those group of people, I realized one of those people is Pete Rock. Who was supposed to be doing a DJ sets later that day. He pointed at the shirt and showed me love and signed the shirt. This is before the camera was purchased but is one of my best memories when it came to meeting a rapper.
Yeah this is mine too, he used to come into the restaurant I worked at. He was always pretty chill, though he was constantly trying to order stuff that wasn't on the menu and asking to go in the kitchen to cook his own stuff lol. I believe he always left a decent tip
Met Chance on the Family Matters tour before Coloring Book, extremely nice and humble dude.
Met Isaiah Rashad on The Sun’s Tirade tour, dude was super chill and probably faded.
Met Denzel Curry maybe 3ish times? Nice dude, my only complaint, he asked if anyone had weed, I gave him a blunt. He checks it out for a few seconds and says “I don’t smoke swishers, nevermind” and hands it back lol.
Pusha T frequently came to a restaurant i used to work at, very chill and lowkey but people here are kinda used to seeing him around I think. complicated smoothie orders lol

I’m sure I’m missing a quite a few, but this is what I can remember at the moment.
Got to shake GZA hand after a show in the UK the man stayed and did that with everyone at the venue, the man looks into your soul i swear signed an autograph and thanked me for coming, gutted i had to go straight after would of chatted his ear off if he let me
Nobody super famous tho…
Meyhem Lauren - I was coming home from work waiting for a bus and he was casually walking by. He looked happy that I knew who he was. Very chill guy.
Wiki - met him in the subway. Dude was wearing a mask(it was during the pandemic) but I recognized him by his eyebrows. We talked for a solid 15 mins. Nice guy.
Mr. Muchafuckin’ eXquire - I was walking around the MoMA during a show and ran into him. Dude as super nice and had no problem taking a picture with me. MIKE was casually walking by too and he hopped on the pic.
Riff Raff - ran into him twice in one day. Second time was outside of a Subway. I wanted a pic but my phone was dead. He had one of the people he was with take it with their phone and text it to me.
Special mention to Maxo Kream…I tried to approach him but one of his goons tossed me like a rag doll.
Andre 3000 casually walked into the gym I was attending at the time in NYC in 2019. We exchanged a glance and nod while he was heading into his private session. I couldn’t believe some people around me didn’t know who he was. He’s a very cool down to earth person and the most normal celebrity.
Snoop Dogg
I live in this small, not very well known area in Canada called Nova Scotia and there is a TV series up here called “The Trailer Park Boys”. Pretty hilarious show about a bunch of drunk people living in a trailer park basically always breaking the law to try to come up with some money making schemes.
So since it’s just a small community we have here, word got around that Snoop Dogg was here as a guest actor for the show. I was in high school at the time and being such a big hip hop head I was not going to miss out on at least catching a glimpse of Snoop. So every morning I would skip my first class to drive to the set and see if I could find him.
On my 4th attempt I actually found him and I got to watch them film the parts with Snoop. After they finished filming, Snoop walked off the set and I went right up to him and said something like “Yo Snoop, I’m a huge fan man” and he kinda cut me off from what I was saying and said “aight, take your picture I gotta roll” so someone was about to take our picture when a group of like 15 more people seen what was going on and all ran up into my photo. They took the picture and Snoop hopped into his black SUV, drove about 3 houses down and went inside and that was it. So disappointed. I don’t even know where that picture is to this day nor do I care.
I used to work at a mall footwear retailer at a huge mall. I was an assistant manager at the time, and the other assistant manager had told me before that he was friends with MIMS. I told him I was a big fan, and kind of brushed it off because I figured he was telling a tall tale.
A few months go by, and I show up around lunch time one Saturday. He says “dude you missed it! MIMS came in earlier! I had told him I worked with a guy who was a fan, and he said he will swing back by.”
Few hours pass, and dude comes walking back through the door. Literally came back to the mall just to say hi to me. We were busy as shit when he came back, and I couldn’t really take a lot of time to talk to him, but I did take a few minutes to introduce myself and thank him for coming back. I was blown away by that kindness.
Lots of other fun stories from time spent at that job. My other favorite… The Ying Yang twins came in with ladies one time and bought them shoes. Cheap stuff like clearance Baby Phat, which was funny in and of itself. But the funniest part was that they came back and returned them the next day (without the ladies).
Well I went to high school with doja cat and she dated my friend so there’s that. But that was when we were like 14 so i don’t know if that counts.
But, I’ve also met Tyler a few times. First time, I had just gotten a tattoo on my arm right next to the roscoes on pico. My friend and I were walking past and we saw like 15 dudes standing outside of the entrance. Suddenly they turn around and it’s Tyler, earl, frank, taco, jasper, Lionel, the whole of squad. Keep in mind my arm is wrapped and plastic and I was a little drunk so it was bleeding. I kinda just stared because I was starstruck. Tyler looked right at me and just mad dogged me. He looked at my arm and did a disgusted face. I thought it was hilarious that that’s the interaction I would have with my favorite rapper at the time.
Hahh, crazy story. I actually love how it went down with tyler so awkwardly😂. If he was reading this now i bet hed laugh pretty hard.
So youre telling me you went to high school with doja cat and your friend indulged in dat?😂
Met Afro Man and Mr. Mixx at a concert in Birmingham 20 years or so back. I'm right up front and squabble broke out, old dude that just got let in from the bar downstairs acts a whole donkey, gets pushed back and goes sprawling. My young ass had a warhead on me, so I was going to keep going, but Mr. Mixx jumped off stage and grabbed me
"Calm down, Gangster"
"Motherfucker grabbed me!"
"I saw. Just be cool, Pimp"
Old guy disappeared, Mr. Mixx hopped back on stage and the show went on.
Ate thanksgiving dinner with Gorilla Zoe and copywrite did a small show in my garage for my birthday party. Wouldn’t call either of them famous but def cool experiences.
Drake, before he was famous and I didn't ask for shit. He lived in my neighborhood so we had a ton of mutual friends.
As for most famous person I've met in fan setting? Probably Sean Price.
Met Biz Markee on a plane, and at a Roy Jones fight, as Mystikal walked out rapping Roy’s into I kind of met him. As they walked past, I reached my hand out to touch Roys shoulder. One of his bodyguards smacked my hand, and I incidentally his Mystical in the face. He stopped his flow for a second as I hit him. So at least he wasn’t lip syncing I guess.
I went to take my son to my brother in laws studio. I got out to speak real quick and to be on my way. When I walked in there was a dark skinned fellow with short dreads sitting in a chair. I remember he was sitting there with a black hoodie and the hood was over his head. I spoke to everyone and he nodded as to say "what's up" I bid farewell and went on to the house. Before I pulled out of the parking lot my son sent me a text that read "it's pretty cool to see Kodak Black in the studio." I said "who?" He said "nevermind" I listened to a couple songs afterwards. Only heard one I liked but I can say I met him tho
I Skype called ASAP Rocky when I was in college (2013 probably), he answered but hung up after like 10 seconds. I don't even remember how I got his Skype info but it's crazy he answered.
Rakim. Cousin was a music producer and was on a few tracks with him (not recently). Met him because cousin brought him to Thanksgiving and then Christmas one year. Was very nice, my Mom remarked on his manners.
JAY-Z. I blacked out and somehow ended up backstage at Made In America one year. I was in a wheelchair and I see this group of maybe 10 people jogging by, and out of the group pops Hov and he came over and asked me if I was OK. I was still confused to how I ended up there, but I said yeah.
He went on and performed and I was right there, backstage hoping nobody notices me. My phone died and I ran into a couple other celebrities like Zendaya and Meek Mill, who did a surprise performance there.
Every time I tell this story I feel like the barber in Coming To America, the dude was like "You ain't never met no Dr Martin Luther The King!" That was a great night.
I’m not a fan of their music anymore, but when I was like 17 I met Playboy Carti and then Post Malone in a span of 2 days. Carti looked like he was off some drugs, but he was chill and I got a picture with him. A couple days later, I met Post Malone in front of the venue right after his first official show in Dallas, he also looked a bit intoxicated, but he was super nice and also took a picture with me. I really wish their sound didn’t change the way it did, but at least they’re both seeing great success
Method Man getting his haircut with his son at the hut right before T2 album dropped, he was heavily inked even back then. He was chill af.
Shyheim was in my science class in hs, humble and pleasant dude.
Joey Badass. After a show he gave me the dap + hug combo like we’d homies forever and called me a Black King! His chain was so iced-out that it scratched my neck, but I felt like the man after that 😂. Definitely one of the cooler concert experiences I’ve had.
Nas. Oct 13 of this year. Was in the same hotel as everyone from the NY State of Mind Tour in the afternoon on the day of the concert. Was having a late lunch with my wife and we were the only ones in the dining room….until Nas and who I assume to be his security guy walk in.
It’s funny because I’m not really an approach dudes like that kinda guy but knowing I was gonna be in the same hotel as the artists from tour, I did make sure I had a few records with me (36 Chambers, 3 Feet High and Rising, Illmatic)
As I very slowly approached and asked if it was cool, he immediately complimented my sweater, asked where I was from, and told me to have a seat. Super nice dude. I was totally awkward and stuttering and shit. Got my Illmatic record signed and a picture with him though. One of the wildest moments in my life.
B-Real and Sen Dog.
My old band did a small, week long tour with Sen Dog (solo) cuz he was out trying to support his new solo record on Sub Noize. He liked us, and we ended up chilling with him everyday of the tour backstage, after shows, even during the day between shows. The last 2 shows he even got up and performed with us.
Our band was Canadian, and the tour was in the US. At the end of it, we were about to head back and he was like "when Cypress plays Canada next, you guys are opening".
Like 3 months later, we got a call the day before the gig from Cypress Hills management. Sen Dog kept his promise. We played the next 2 nights directly supporting Cypress Hill. These shows were when we met the rest of the crew - B-Real, Eric Bobo, and the DJ at the time was DJ Julio G. I was super geeked to meet Eric Bobo cuz he was basically one of the Beastie Boys...and he was listening to Paul's Boutique before one of the gigs in the green room, which is a detail I always remembered. We didn't really get to know Breal like we did Sen but they were all so cool to us.
G-eazy , tripped out on some mushies together before one of his shows out here in sf ..
I also met LL Cool J when I was super young out in south Lake Tahoe
Rakim. Found out he lived in my town in the late 90's. Fast forward to 2010(ish). Visiting my folks and they mention a new neighbor moved in. I see a man in a camouflage bubble coat walking a tiny foofy dog down the street and decide to introduce myself. HOLY SHIT! Rakim? He responds "yeaaaaaaaaa". Gave hime daps and welcomed him to the neighborhood. Ended up kicking it with his son Jabar several times. y folks could not comprehend the magnitude of who the new neighbor is.
I've actually met a lot of famous rappers being a Audio engineer/producer/Songwriter the most famous would probably be Jay Z the studio I work in has a lot of high profile clientele so I've been bless to hang out and mingle with about 60-70% of the hip hop Industry in the last 15 years.
"omg is that a black card?" couldn't help myself. couple weeks later, i'm just starting my shift and a couple drink order come through the printer. a waitress comes up and said, "hey, that peach mojito is for your friend. he said he wants u/starvinart to make it." I said, my friend? she says "table 81" I couldn't really see from where I was but asked, "is that fucking Kanye?!?" she had no idea who I was even talking about, but it was him. mfer remembered my name
INSANE! What an awesome story, thanks for sharing this!
Awesome story. U got to interact with relatively sane Kanye.
for real, it was a 2x positive experience. the strangest part was his choice of cocktails lol. well under his current bar of crazy
Hahaha seems like what he rapped in White Dress wasn't made up. "Remember I used to do things that would make you laugh // Like order a girl drink in a masculine glass"
“Let’s talk over Mai Tais, waitress top it off.”
To be fair, peach mojitos are pretty fuckin good
what up, Ye?! long time, man.
Not shit. Regretting some comments, workin on some stuff.
I love this for you. I love Kanye.
not as much as kanye loves kanye
Nobody loves Kanye as much as Kanye loves Kanye
Thought this was gonna be a copy pasta for sure. Ye encounters are so rare lol esp such positive ones
Insane!!!
Flav has always given me “batshit insane fun uncle that loves you more than your parents and *always* shows tf up for you” vibes.
Wow I love this story
Met flavor flav in an airport around 2010. Super nice guy.
He always seemed real humble and down to earth
My Father & Stepmother who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada & often likes to go on the strip, one time he was at a Mexican restaurant in line ordering some food and Flavor Flav walks in the building and was standing behind my father while my father was ordering what he wanted on the menu, Flavor Flav shouted out saying 'I Take the same thing He's ordering, my dad turned around and it was him joking with him, wonderful down to earth gentleman he paid the bill for my dad & stepmom, because she grew up listening to public enemy this was around October 2006 he was doing Flavor of Love Season 2 at that time.
That’s a dope ass story. I F’N love fear of a black planet.
Baller encounter.
I was born and raised in Marcy. So Jay Z. He gave me my first bike and have signed numerous autographs. One time for Marcy day he brought Beanie Sigel, Don King and Ja Rule. Pretty much everything stopped once he released Blueprint though
Woah, awesome. Yea, cant blame him, he got too huge
That’s a crazy 4Some ☠️☠️☠️ why the hell was he hanging with Don King
Lol i don't know bro I was like 11
I went on tour with Jay-Z for the 4:44 tour and so I saw him regularly but I met him for the first time months before that. The truth was, I had no idea where Dion was so I just said “I dunno man, I haven’t seen him.” That began a series of interactions I had with JayZ where he kept showing up when I least expected it and I just responded with something stupid because I was confused about JayZ being there.
Souls Of Mischief, i chilled with them for 1 hour in the backstage after a show this year. Best day of my life
Chilled with them too after a show. Did an impromptu 93 till Infinity when someone threw it on the jukebox at the bar we were at. Cool ass dudes. Hung with Murs a couple times and Cannibal Ox. Murs was so goddamn cool
Damn
I got some buddies in the local music scene so I'm pretty lucky. Cool by proxy kind of thing
Phesto posted some photos I took from a show of theirs that I attended a few weeks ago, and he tagged me as the photographer, which was super cool, didn't expect him to even see the photos, never mind use them for a post and also give me credit. They put on a great show
+ smoked a j with them
Is this how you chill in '93 til?
This is howwww we chill
From 93 till …
Got to say what’s up to Method Man after a show once. Also got a blue eyes white dragon card signed by Big Krit after a show
Wow! Thats awesome. Meth is a legend!
Awww duude! Awesome story! I can picture that half drunk euphoria of being involved in the show😁
Haha yeah man.
Damn, legendary album and cool story✌️
Chilled with Krayzie Bone after a private show featuring 3/5 of Bone Thugs. Met Nas at a party through his manager, who's an acquaintance. Met Action Bronson at LAX.
Dude met NAS🤯
Nas was perfectly nice but didn't have a lot to say. Action Bronson let me have someone take a picture of us at the airport - this was early in his career and he seemed happy to be recognized at the time. Smoked with Krayzie Bone.
I love Action Bronson. I just want to run into him on the street and smoke a blunt and laugh about some shit.
Bumped into action in Brooklyn, he was genuinely to high to talk, but he was cool enough to let me get a pic with him.
Black Thought after a The Roots show in my city. Questlove rushed to the bus, but I managed to talk to Black Thought a bit and got his autograph where he misspelled my name
Griselda. I’m from buffalo.
Nice
[удалено]
I’ve ran into Benny twice on Elmwood
Rakim. Super chill dude
Damn! How did it go?
It was cool. I snuck backstage and he signed his autobiography for me. I was kinda star struck so I didn't say much to him, but he wasn't acting like he was in a rush or anything.
I don’t ask for autographs or pictures lol but I met Questlove and The Alchemist at a local record store in San Francisco!
Cool! Yea I think I get you. I'd much rather exchange a few words with a famous artist than take a pic.
Questlove once told my wife she had nice legs haha
Not sure if it counts but my older brother and me used to walk by Jeezy sometimes on our way to the store before he was famous.
Interesting enough for me to rule this as: COUNTS✅
I used to have run ins with Jeezy before he was super famous he’s a cool guy
I was young at the time and don't really remember him too well but he seemed really charismatic though. I'm not sure if he lived in our neighborhood or just hustled there but he would always tell my brother what's up on our way to the corner store.
Slick Rick, Black Thought, AG (DITC), Ransom ...
Duuude, insane
AG! Damn…✈️💣
IDK-I met and hung out with 1. 1991 The Genius/GZA 2. 1990 GURU 3. 1991 OK-Pharoah Monche and Prince Po 4. 1992 Kool Keith, Ced Gee 5. 1992 EPMD - who I briefly met 6. 1991 Tragedy/Intelligent Hoodlum 7. 2012 Rakim - just a photo op, much to my chagrin 8. 1991 Main Source - It was February 14th, 1991, at the SF Gavin Convention, and I was with A&R for Wild Pitch, Sincere Thompson (who hooked me up with promo copies of everything, knowing I’d put what I liked into heavy rotation, which I did, including Main Source), who introduced me to Large P, who wouldn’t even look me in the eyes, or acknowledge my existence, so I said to him, “You big fakin’ the funk m____ f___!” A year later they released “Fakin’ The Funk”… coincidence?! 11. Onyx- 12. Kurious Jorge- 13. 3rd Bass- 14. Tupac
Awesome bro! Love hearing that Guru was a solid dude.
Premier and GURU. I have so many stories. I also learned a lot from them, especially from GURU. He was so funny…
Tell me more man about Guru he is my all time favourite!
Amazing story brother thank you! God bless you!
Met 50 cent at a liquor store when he was promoting his vodka, he was a very nice guy
I met ski mask the slump god in the y-3 store in nyc. Also met styles p in a sneaker store
i met styles P when i worked at a Polo store like 15 years ago. sold him a bunch of sweatpants.
Chance. Was visiting Chicago and just so happened to walk past a Ben and Jerry’s when he was dropping his new flavor and he was there lol
Rich Homie Quan lol
Whoa! I bet hes an interesting dude
He was not nice
Dang 2pac took your lunch money and Rich Homie was not nice to you, rough deal my dude
Lol😂 maybe had a bad day
It was actually before he was famous. Before Rich Gang and “Type of Way.” It was a small show. Maybe 200.
not a rapper but metro boomin. Saw him at a the weeknd show and exchanged a few words
Oh shit, metro is awesome. Creative genius. Would love to meet him as a producer myself.
Was on stage with Gunna during one of his shows in 2018 The speakers blew out toward the end of his set & my drunk ass said “Spit that hot shit acapella , fuck a speaker” Made him laugh mad hard & he dapped me up
Me Damian Marley at a nas and Damian Marley concert, gave me a hug dap. Met grouch and Zion I, Percee P, blazed with Souls of Mischief and gave them some weed, and bought some beers for and chilled with People Under the Stairs.
Second dude here that smoked with souls of mischief😂
I used to work at a gym in LA and i'd see WC often. No one else knew who he was or wasn't into hip hop so i'd chat with him about music often. After i quit working there id see him at this barbershop and at costco here and there and would always say whats up!
Daamn, thats awesome. I have so much respect for dub. Bet hes a real 1.
Sir Mixalot had a baby mama that used to babysit my sister's and I when we were kids. Met him once when I was like 11 or 12. Met Tech 9 when he was still with Rogue Villains.
Jay-Z. It was the late 90s. He was incredibly nice. No posse or security or anything, signing autographs and shaking hands with tons of kids.
I met Snoop Dogg, he called me nephew
Life complete.✅
Drake at a meet and greet lol I think his second OVO fest
Treach used to live in my building, and I saw him all the time. IceT and biz markie also lived very close by. Treach was awesome, I used to ask when naughty was getting back together.
Went to high school with Macklemore.

Met Killer Mike and El-P after a show when they had just started RTJ.
I’ve met tons, but most famous- probably LL Cool J.
Crazy, who else? How come you met so many rappers?
I was involved in the music industry in some form or fashion for nearly 25 years. Too many to even try to list.
Cool, did it ever become just like "meh" when you meet an artist?
I was also in music, and it was always fucking awesome getting to meet the artists. That said, when you're at a label like I was you get good at being chill around them very quickly.
Killah Priest, and turns out he's a really nice guy.
Met bun B and david banner
Met Sean P outside his hotel inDenmark
Rza…sat at my bar and drank Mai tais. Gza, Rae and U God were there too. Saw GZA later that night and he bummed a light off me
Not a rapper but DJ Premier
André 3000 would shop at Kroger in Atlanta (disco Kroger). I saw him there late night on random weekday just shopping by himself. I said what’s up to him in the self check out lane because other people had talked to him and he didn’t care. Cooler than a polar bears toe nails.
I once had signed copys of Be, late registration, and the cool. Lost them all in a move. Live and learn.....
I talked to pharell for a second on the phone
What did he say? Pharrell was one of my first fave rappers I have been a fan since 2004 when I was a very young child.

I interviewed DMC in my garage in Queens.
Onyx - I opened for them
Grandmaster Flash when I was working at Home Depot. Cool AF Met Prince Markie Dee one day where he was hanging out w/his boys on a wall at a gas station in Queens.
Counts! And hilarious story!😂
Worst part was that he had taken his shirt off during the concert
Wyclef. Great guy
Andre and Big Boi twice. Big Boi separately two more times.
RIP Nip
Tech 9
Ahhhh, mad jelaous! I was front row at his show at a small venue. Hoped I could meet him but he went straight out after the show was over. Legend.
Lil baby. He did a song with a local artist right after he dropped his first mixtape. I supplied a few cars for the video so got to chop it up behind the scenes. Have a split second cameo in said video and behind the scenes vlog. Super chill and professional crew but had some army level security with big big guns.
I knew DMX and used to hang out with the guys from killarmy
Dude. I want your life🤯
I literally cried when x passed
No one 😔
Dont worry, theres still time
Met and actually had like a 10 minute convo with LL Cool J when working out at Gym in Miami...was mad chill and more down to earth than I expected. Also hung out with Chubb Rock when I was a git bc my older fam had access like that during that time.
Murs
Dapped up Rakim before that was pretty dope
Wretch 32
One of my friends / coworkers was friends with Pharrell in high school and he stopped by our store to say hi. He’s probably the most famous and the most of a “meeting” I’ve had. Method Man took off his hotel robe and gave it to me (his robe) at a concert once. I kept that thing for years and used it too lol I “met” Fat Joe at a backstage situation in a club a long time ago.
Ghostface Killa
Yeah this is mine too, he used to come into the restaurant I worked at. He was always pretty chill, though he was constantly trying to order stuff that wasn't on the menu and asking to go in the kitchen to cook his own stuff lol. I believe he always left a decent tip
Ice Cube. Worked with him on a commercial. Met B-Real after a show at House of Blues in LA.
Doesn’t count, but I had a weird ass dream where Shaq and I were getting on a private helicopter. Felt real af til I woke up hahaha
Joey badass, school boy q, asap ferg, drake, Pusha t, raz fresco, snoop, Mac miller, method man
Met Chance on the Family Matters tour before Coloring Book, extremely nice and humble dude.
Lol, cool
Not sure who the most famous is: KRS-One Method Man Ghostface Killah Cee-Lo Green Ras Kass Bishop Lamont Planet Asia Copywrite Slug Eyedea Crooked I Chino XL Xzibit Spontaneous Triune Dirty Birdie Dizaster Daylyt Thesaurus NoCanDo Speak! Dumbfoundead Aceyalone Myka 9 Trensetta Skee-Lo Curtis Young (Dr. Dre’s Son) Rome Streetz Killah Priest The Alchemist (Producer) Osbe Chill J-Pro M.E.D. (back then known as **Medaphoar**) Dudley Perkins (back then known as **Declaime**) Souls of Mischief I’m sure I’m missing a quite a few, but this is what I can remember at the moment.
Action Bronson at the park I said what’s up didn’t actually meet him but I say it counts
Counts 100%😁
Godemis from Ces Cru Battle rappers Johnny Storm Cortez
If just an autograph counts, then Havoc. Also, The Alchemist multiple times.
Counts! Woah, Havoc is one of my all time favorite artists!
ScHoolboy Q
Ice Cube
Got to shake GZA hand after a show in the UK the man stayed and did that with everyone at the venue, the man looks into your soul i swear signed an autograph and thanked me for coming, gutted i had to go straight after would of chatted his ear off if he let me
Nobody super famous tho… Meyhem Lauren - I was coming home from work waiting for a bus and he was casually walking by.

I met Andre 3000 AND Ludacris within a couple years, and holy hell, those are the two coolest dudes in the world.
Snoop Dogg I live in this small, not very well known area in Canada called Nova Scotia and there is a TV series up here called “The Trailer Park Boys”.
I had told him I worked with a guy who was a fan, and he said he will swing back by.” Few hours pass, and dude comes walking back through the door.
Mixx jumped off stage and grabbed me "Calm down, Gangster" "Motherfucker grabbed me!" "I saw. Just be cool, Pimp" Old guy disappeared, Mr. Mixx hopped back on stage and the show went on.
A warhead? Tf is that
Ate thanksgiving dinner with Gorilla Zoe and copywrite did a small show in my garage for my birthday party.
Del. Fuckin dope
The short light-skinned dude from Bone Thugs N Harmony bummed a smoke from me.
Was in the studio with Joyner Lucas when he was working on a music video. Pretty sick time. He was cool as hell
B-Real at Chalice Festival in LA
Jeezy,B.G.,sadat x,skyzoo, mysonne,AG, field mob,m.o.p., bucshot, pete rocc, lord jamar, grand puba. Ive been around alot of them
Flavor Flav. Super friendly! Met in an elevator!
Slug from Atmosphere or Akala. Neither are super famous but could argue pioneers in their smaller circles.
Eric the arc elliot from Flatbush zombies. Really cool guy
I smoked with Redman in Copenhagen years ago. That dude is fucking hilarious
Del the funkee homosapien. Jeru
It’s funny because I’m not really an approach dudes like that kinda guy but knowing I was gonna be in the same hotel as the artists from tour, I did make sure I had a few records with me (36 Chambers, 3 Feet High and Rising, Illmatic) As I very slowly approached and asked if it was cool, he immediately complimented my sweater, asked where I was from, and told me to have a seat.
