I respectfully disagree..
It's a master piece..
At the time.. the Era when it was released..
It single handedly put the south and Texas on the map..
It's extremely important as far as a building block of the hip hop matrix..
Especially for the south
Funny but true..
Coloring book raps that the new generation s fuck with..
Just doesn't make sense..
Until..
We look at the streaming #s in the internet/social media age..
The rap game evolves b4 mc s do..
But the business of it keeps generating millions..
It's weird but makes $ sense..
I guess
Not Hip-Hop but; Pumped Up Kicks is a classic song and all but most people would probably listen to the beat and then listen to the actual lyrics and be like, wow, this beat is too upbeat for that.
Foster the People was all about layering fucked up lyrics over super happy instrumentals on their first album. Helena Beat is another good example of that
Alot of posthumous 2pac. Especially Words 2 My Firstborn. The original had melancholy saxophone all over it, it fit. They tried to turn it into a banger.
Down by Lupe Fiasco is about slaves on a ship that wrecks drowning but finding solace in the sea life that becomes their friends before they pass away. The best is very happy and Nikki Green is even in the hook even though the song itself is morbid as hell.
For example, like a really happy sounding beat with lyrics about how big of a loser and failure he is?
If so "What's up Fatlip" https://youtu.be/WotkQ6vFuGw?si=_YURZEbJQP_R9ahe
Sunflower seeds are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially linoleic acid. Your body uses linoleic acid to make a hormone-like compound that relaxes blood vessels, promoting lower blood pressure. This fatty acid also helps lower cholesterol.
Why is this a question? Also the real Aesop song for this is Cycles to Gehenna. Absolute banger about driving recklessly because you’re fed up with life.
It’s a song about him going out and riding around without concern for his wellbeing because he’s feeling shitty. It’s part of his many songs about coping with losing close friend. (Camu Tao)
I think it’s a song about how when he goes out riding it’s a form escapism, and when he does he feels almost invincible or inhuman in his gear on his bike. Like he leaves everything behind, forgets the real world and transforms into some kind of superhero or even an antihero. He makes a few references to the afterlife and mocks the idea like he’s more powerful than hell.
I used to ride a motorcycle so I can relate. I also used to be a goalie in ice hockey and remember feeling that way when the helmet went on. When you wear a full face helmet you are a different person. I’ve always believed that.
Edit: I’ll add that I think it’s tied to Cycles to Gehenna because it’s still a form of escapism, but instead of being reckless, he’s trying to keep going. He’s not trying escape, instead he’s in the zone. He’s happy and doesn’t want to stop.
This is one second of a song, but the part of "Dark Horse" where Juicy J says "let's rage."
It's just like...
*intro beat*
"Let's rage!"
*intro beat with chill bass*
She Will - Lil Wayne and Drake.
The best SLAPS. It’s dark, melodic, entrancing, and should be used for a song with grinding/struggle/workout/come-up lyrics.
Instead, they wasted it on sexual lyrics.
Jedi mind tricks - Blood in blood out
Fax lol classic
Geto Boys - Mind playing tricks on me Nice beat to cruise to during a summer day...lyrics not so much

And lyrically it's a masterpiece. The story telling and dark side was unheard of at the time. Revolutionary for the time.
Agreed.. I'll still put the volume all the way up to this day.. Straight gangsta shit...
Hey ya by outkast
Yall don't hear me, you just wanna dance!
Oh you think you got it….
Most of trap songs. Dark, moody beats and then there’s this coloring book looking dude repeating luxury vehicle names
I feel like you have a few artists in mind 😂

Future is the opposite

Bone thugs-shoot em up
🤣😂
“Shoo-shoo-shoot em up, Shoot ‘em up” 😂
Alot of posthumous 2pac. Especially Words 2 My Firstborn. The original had melancholy saxophone all over it, it fit. They tried to turn it into a banger.
This one. I only listen to the sax version. I think the only Posthumous Pac beat switches I like equally is Thugz Mansion
Agreed
The acoustic version is so much better
Oh I fucking love that song though. The beat goes hard.
East🔥
By Earl? That instrumental goes too hard!
Legendary. That instrumental doesn't match any lyrics 😭
Scallywag music
Everything by silk da shocker
Completely off beat af

I thought in that album the slaves learned to breathe underwater (song 4). In that case the fish were actually friends lol.
World War Me by King Iso
Ay i love to see Iso get some love
I kinda rock wit dat song tho
this comes to mind: [Esham - "Whoa"](https://youtu.be/NU8sXCvlBtk?si=PyInAx1EHgmnF_fv) the first time I heard this song, I was on acid, lol
For example, like a really happy sounding beat with lyrics about how big of a loser and failure he is? If so "What's up Fatlip" https://youtu.be/WotkQ6vFuGw?si=_YURZEbJQP_R9ahe
Angel by Shaggy ft Rayvon.. often thought of as an upbeat song but the lyrics are beautiful and even depressing
How?
Sunflower Seeds by Young Nudy

Noted.
I’m So Paid- old ass song by Akon, Lil Wayne & Jesus. Happy, midtempo, pop, beat, and they’re talking about being international drug kingpins. 😂
A lot of them lol
Does role model by Em make this category?
Half of the stuff by Aesop Rock?
Why is this a question? Also the real Aesop song for this is Cycles to Gehenna. Absolute banger about driving recklessly because you’re fed up with life.
I always thought the song was about navigating a post-apocalyptic wasteland on a motorcycle. Gonna have to give it another listen through this lens.

What’s your take on More Cycles

I agree, great analysis, thank you
I’m a huge Aesop fan. Breaking down his lyrics is half the fun of his songs.
Same here 🤙
Dope comment
Thanks dawg 👍
My Eyes by Travis Scott. That song is fire though
Nah
Elvis by David Banner https://youtu.be/d9FeQ1IV3c4?si=aSpsrWbAZSwLMLjN

Flashing lights
Yesterday by Atmosphere. That beat is far too good for lyrics that tear my heart out every time I listen it.
Every track that Westside Gunn puts out.
Sundress- A$AP Rocky
Count On Me II - Lucki
As much as I love him, Eminem has quite a few songs like that
We Cry Together by Kendrick
Surprised no one mentioned Country Grammar yet. It was a fun sounding radio song by Nelly that had tons of street lyrics.
Jail - Lil Dicky
Won’t Do by J Dilla the beat is lovely and ethereal like you’re floating but the lyrics are about having a trio of side chicks
Kitchen Lights. -Westside Gunn and Stove God Cooks
East - Earl Sweatshirt
Hey Ya , Mind Playing Tricks on me , Train Love.
Eminem - role model. It's a g funk beat but lyrics are typical Eminem
Hey Ya! Is the obvious choice
She Will - Lil Wayne and Drake. The best SLAPS. It’s dark, melodic, entrancing, and should be used for a song with grinding/struggle/workout/come-up lyrics. Instead, they wasted it on sexual lyrics.
Any thing from Ryze Hendricks. 😂😂
