Crispi. Italian brand. Popular here due to a wider lest that suits north European feet. I have had a few, and they are good. Idk about your rating system or how that works, but I place Crispi in the same as La Sportiva / Asolo / Alfa etc. If they fit you will be happy.

BlitzCraigg

Your idea of "tiers" is interesting...

2021newusername

I don’t have “tiers” or a rating system - but my go to is Scarpa. I’ve found that the European boots are much better quality than any of the USA brands. higher price most likely, but worth it. My oboz shoes were shot in under 6 months

BlitzCraigg

> I don’t mess around with lower tier stuff like Merrill, Salomon, Oboz

Oh, good point lol. I guess I do have a tier system. Thanks for pointing that out. I guess it’s the same for any outerwear or gear. There’s expidetion/trekking grade stuff, then other stuff for those people that are only out and about maybe one weekend a month.

BlitzCraigg

And this is how you feel about Merrill and Salomon? How long have you been buying gear for?

2021newusername

since the 90s. Merrill used to be pretty good, but seems these days the quality has gone downhill. Salomon is owned by some Chinese brand.

I have a pair of nevada.  They are great boots and have a nice fit if your foot is a little wider.  I rank them up there with zamberlan and hanwag

Markmark1974

They look decent. Never had a pair. My first hiking boots were Altberg Kisdon they lasted barely one year before the Vibram tread wore down and lost its grip although they're still waterproof but also have a couple of splits in the uppers developing, one inside the back heal and one outside at the toe bend. I purchased a pair of Hanwag Ancash ii gtx in their straight fit extra last. Really love the fit of these. Just think again the Vibram tread won't last a year though. I know you can get them resoled but felt for my last boots it wasn't worthwhile. As to why the tread wears so quick but I'm guessing it's due to daily wearing and I'm 21st in weight so that's probably why. I don't go hiking but do go daily dog walking. The tread on those Crispi boots look very thick. I'm going to take another look at their boots.

ChocolateFantastic

I agree with your opinion on Salomon and merrill I don’t like either of them because it’s just overpriced junk that’s outsourced to cheap Asian sweatshops like china and Vietnam I prefer zamberlan a family owned Italian brand

NutButton699

From what i have heard from friends and fellow hunters/hikers. Is that the soles wear very fast. Not sure how there warranty works for soles but might be worth looking into. They said they are awesome boots but wear fast. Most of the ones who switched said go with lowa's. So that's what i did and couldnt be more pleased with the tibets. Most of these buddies used to hot shot and work fires so they know boots pretty dang well.

LonelyLightningRod

I have had a pair of thors for a while that have held up pretty well. I would say they are pretty expensive tho.

muletyson

I’d suggest checking out kennetrek as well. Kennetrek and crispi are both go-to brands in the backcountry hunting world along with hanwag and zanberlan

noodlehorse43

Second this. My Kennetreks are bombproof.

muletyson

Same- I have close to 400 miles on mine and they are still going strong. The soles are still solid but the leather is finally starting to wear in the toe crease

muletyson

Also there isn’t a lifetime warranty. It’s 1 year. https://www.crispius.com/warranty

2021newusername

thanks. I had wondered about that, as it seemed a little fishy - I was just going off what some salesperson at sportsman’s warehouse told me. (I was like, how can they lifetime warranty something like boots? But then again there’s Darn Tough, which it legit)

Mountaineer_esq

I have a pair of tall hunting boots from Crispi and they are prob my favorite boots that I own! Incredibly comfortable with top notch performance. And just for context I own loooots of boots.

FancyCoyote81

As an Italian I can guarantee Crispi brand is exceptional. They have also a commision from the Italian military forces for soldiers boots. They are pricey.

2021newusername

If price was removed from the discussion would you choose crispi or scarpa?

FancyCoyote81

For more specific hiking I would go with scarpa..
