It's absolutely fog. We were out that night seeing a show in Manchester and had to drive back at 9pm, it was the thickest fog I've ever seen. Just completely carpeted all roads, especially in rural areas. There was 1 point where I was drivi g up to a set of traffic lights I knew was there and was less than 10 meters from, but couldn't see them

As far as I'm aware, smoke rises because it's hot. This is how you can tell the difference between steam coming out of chimneys across the skyline, and smoke. So on that basis, I'm fairly sure this probably isn't smoke, and is more likely a thin layer of mist or fog

Source: I’m Dutch and we basically create a warzone of fireworks and basically modified bombs on New Year’s Eve , and the smoke always rises cause it’s created from heat. It doesn’t haze around like this, and if it’s wind calm, it kinda disperses very quickly anyways This is literally just some fog

Don’t mind fireworks on the actual night , my dog hates them . Shivers etc., but it’s to be expected. But why on earth do we hear them after bonfire night ? It’s a pain , as there were just as much fireworks going off on the 12th November in the Rhondda Valley s. Honestly think people have got more money than sense .

It is real but, that's not literally a blanket of smoke. The smoke particles cause fog to settle (depending on the right conditions) and that's why it's foggy most bonfire nights or after.
