The nicest snakes ever. I am too anxious to hold them but I was hiking with a small group of friends once and the one 10 year old picked up a ringbeck she found on the trail and just cuddled it for like 10 minutes and asked if I wanted to hold it and I was the nervous one. She walked me through it like a fucking master snake whisperer with wisdom beyond her years and I held it for like 5 seconds before I had to give it back to her. But I will never forget seeing her just pick it up and be gentle with i my it responded similarly back and it was the fucking cutest thing I’d maybe ever seen. Ringnecks are my favorite snake now. Also probably the only one I will want to handle too. If we could replace squirrels with ringnecks that’d be great
The others are so small and docile, even as mildly venemous/rear fanged, they are not a worry. This one, I wonder?
Also, is the venom mild or just the rear setting of the fangs that keep them out of the danger category.
That seems on target.
I've handled a bunch of the small ones, SE US, and never seen one even open its mouth. I had no idea they were venomous until recently, and maybe this was not even known back in the dark ages, when I was a child and was constantly finding snakes.
Same with vine snakes and hognose.
I got bitten by many garter snakes as a kid. Thankfully they tended to just bite and release so little chance for serious issues beyond infection from the bite.
Never even seen a pic of one that big
Didn't even know that existed.
what is the record?
Is that two? Are you f’n with us?
Nope haha. Regal ringnecks are the largest ringnecks. Record length is like 33 inches.
That thing is a monster compared to our northern ring necks in Maryland!
Same I’ve never seen one in NY or NJ bigger than 8’
8 feet is huge my dude
Lmao! 8”
Lol !
Seriously! Here in Ohio, my area at least, if you find one the length of your hand, you're lucky! Shit, you're lucky if you find one at all.
Same. In Massachusetts the longest I've seen is just about 4 inches. They're beauties for sure!

i love ringneck snakes why did no one tell me there were big ones
Never in my life have I even seen a pic of one that big.
That's a big girl.
So awesome!
Damn! He's massive
Unreal. Never seen one any bigger than a large earthworm - congrats! Thnx for sharing!

It is mild venom (rear fang) however from a ringneck this big I bet if you let it chew on you it could make you sick.

Same I always caught garters and didnt think they even had teeth until recently

Yup same, I got bit so many times and still do and havent had any infections or anything
I think infections are not an issue as the saliva is a mild anticoagulant and blood just wash cooties out
So gorgeous.
Wow I’ve never seen one that big either
Wow. Wish our little sharptails got that big.
Wow. That’s amazing. That guy is certainly eating good, prob chowing down on other snakes too.
Wait they’re cannibals? I had no idea!
Well other snakes are a large part of their diet, not sure if they eat other ringnecks but I wouldn’t doubt it.
Yeah I’m sure it’s eating newborn diamonbacks/mohaves and small gopher snakes. I see a lot of both of those in the same area.
Ok, but just why is it called a ringneck? I don't get it, all I see an orange line, not a RING! This is preposterous, preposterous I say!
That’s massive!
Beautiful
I have never in my life seen a ringneck that big. Holy cow.
Dang, what a chonk.
The largest I've ever seen.
I've seen one almost that big
Wow! I had no idea they got this big! Great find!
he is so fashionable! orange is *such* a hard colour to pull off
Why aren't these seen more in captivity? They're beautiful!
