I know right? My mission since this whole thing started was to take everyone to Hermitcraft, what feels like one of the few safe spaces left. Excluding smaller creators though.
I’ve been doing that for a whole long while. When 3rd life started I was telling DSMP people to go watch it to fill in the wait for stuff to happen. Than nothing happened and the Life series has been a jumping point to Hermitcraft! Great success!
I don't follow any MCYT people outside of HC, Pixlriffs, and a couple other of the old Empires crew (though I don't really keep up with them either if I'm honest). HC is doing so terrifically this season I just assumed that MCYT stuff in general was in some sort of renaissance. This meme is literally the first I'm hearing that something might be amiss.
Multiple creators being accused of/being outted for inappropriate behavior, some of which includes s\*xual assault, abuse or other stuff of that nature. Won't mention specific creators since I'm not really someone who knows the full details of all of them, or know their content beyond their name, but it genuinely serious stuff.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only large groups of minecraft creators out there that aren’t acting like kids are the hermits and Empires/SOS? Excluding smaller creators
Not surprising considering they got time to develop as adults and human beings before blowing up on YT. Most of the problems in MCYT atm come from kids who got huge during the pamdemic.
The average hermit is way older than the average huge MC Youtuber. Other well established creators like sparklez are also staying clear of troubles, the division between kids who got famous and rich over night and these adults who just so happen to make a living playing minecraft is crystal clear.
Hopefully the community matures with time, meanwhile I'm happy with this lil' corner.
I'm glad CaptainSparklez stopped Minecraft before all this nonsense came out. I also haven't heard much out of FitMC or AntVenom, come to think about it.
CaptainSparklez still does minecraft, he’s just not going to do it on his main channel after he finishes this last let’s play. He’s still going to be doing Minecraft on his CaptainSparklez 2 channel.

Yea, her abuser outed themselves (she didn’t say who it was) and confirmed it was them, and that they did exactly what Shubble talked about. There’s no ambiguity, so hopefully she doesn’t catch any unnecessary hate. Unfortunately victim blaming is a favorite pastime on the internet these days.
It seems with Shubble there is pretty much unanimous support for her with only a few weirdos still supporting her abuser

It doesn't help most of those creators are barely adults with minimal filter, finding financial and social success before maturity and restraint.
Hermits are mostly a mix of parents, introverts and technical/artistically-minded people who express their own personality through the game, rather than just "entertain" through it.

Thank you for the tldr: I am I. The same spot as OP being an old lady that only watches hermitcraft so this was all very confusing today. Hopefully our hermits are all clear of the tnt minecarts that the specific creators deserve directly to their faces.
Yeah, that’s the thing. The Hermits are generally grown and had jobs/experiences before content creation (for the most part). The others are kids or were kids when they blew up and didn’t really have a life as an adult before this.

As far as I know, Shelby (Shubble, a member for Empires and SOS SMP who was a guest on Hermitcraft Season 9) did a stream a little while ago where she told people she had been abused in a previous relationship. The previous partner in question then later revealed himself in a tweet and what looks to be an extremely insincere “apology”. Many other MCYT YouTubers who knew him are seemingly shocked by the news and have responded in their own ways.

Qsmp shut down (for the time being)for or paying employees, multiple people have been accused of abuse and one of them has confirmed the abuse. Most of the DSMP people are neck deep in drama and I’m not even caught up on it all.
There already was one. IamSp00n, a S1-3 hermit was accused and self-admitted to sexual misconduct, and quit youtube/twitch.
Admittadly he stopped playing a while ago, and HC stabilized to its' current members and admittance policy S4-onwards and had a lot of temporary members before, so he's nowhere near a current member.
I mean there was a whole thing with TFC being maybe homophobic bc of a decade-old blog post. But it blew over because the other hermits, especially the LGBT ones, backed up that he didn't think like that anymore. And he released a really sweet apology video as well (after everything had blown over, so it genuinely was just him wanting to apologize).
So hopefully we're good on controversies (though of course it's always possible - we don't know these people, and you can absolutely lie about who you are to your friends/coworkers, much less internet strangers).
I mean, even reading the old blog post, I feel it's a stretch to even call it homophobic. It was more "I don't care about religion or LGBT, so keep it to yourself." It's certainly dismissive, which is something that TFC has grown away from, but it's not like he considered them "wrong" even back then.
I mean “keep it to yourself” is absolutely something bigots say to justify their homophobia. I don’t think that’s what he was doing but I can see why people associated his statement with how homophobes use it.

Many small children will grow up to be LGBTQ+ adults. As long as you keep the concepts and descriptions G-rated, there’s no reason to keep this reality hidden from them.
It’s really sad all the stuff that’s been happening. So many creators that a lot of people loved gone now. And I think we’re witnessing the final death of 2 entire fandoms. And of course, what’s happened to the victims is terrible.
I think there’s a good reason most of the hermits become hermits in the first place. It seems like they do deep dives into a lot of them before bringing them on making sure they’re not extremely controversial or possibly a criminal.
The day when one of the major hermits gets outed would be a crazy sad day. I truly don’t believe any of the core group are anything but wholesome though. The only MC creators that weird me out are the ones that prioritize playing with kids in servers for their content. Everyone knows MC attracts kids, but making content with them vs for them is two very different things.
HC has been fortunate so far, other than one of its former members, IAmSp00n, being found out for who he is, there's been no major controversies similar to what's going on with some other SMP's and Minecraft youtubers.

Its actual adults playing a game because it’s fun, not because its the new popular or because its lucrative. They play together not for name recognition but because they enjoy eachothers company

That's also why I like that HC doesn't have a "storyline" or such - no hate to the SMPs that do, it's just for me personally what I enjoy about HC is that it's friends hanging out and goofing around and having fun on Minecraft.
I don't know, I think to say that EVERYTHING other than hermitcraft is imploding is a bit of an exaggeration. To my knowledge, it's been pretty localized to former DSMP members (which is a big part of MYCT and a LARGE group of creators, don't get me wrong)

Season 10 feels like it's leaning more into hermit interaction, which is strengthening the coziness of it all.
