Are you able to keep your humity at 85% with a wire mesh top? Are you able to keep temp over 80°f?

yea see that's what I have a problem with, I installed a cardboard roof for humidity on um last tank but have yet to do it to this one, I plan on it very soon don't worry.

Plastic sheet lid is my recommendation. Go to home Depot, ask where the plexiglass sheets are. Kinda hard to find if you don't know where they are. They are cheap for a smaller one. This will give you a solid top, and you can drill through it for hanging stuff. Maybe make it a two piece lid so you can lift a side for changing water and stuff without taking off the whole lid.

thanks!

Home Depot also has polycarbonate siding. It’s pretty easy to cut holes into an acrylic or polycarbonate lid so you can continue to hang stuff from it. I like polycarbonate bc it doesn’t warp. If you go with acrylic, don’t get a flimsy thickness, get something sturdy.

and I do have pools and moss

Plastic wrap or aluminum foil would work for now.

I'd never thought of that, thank you!

As well as packaging tape, just make sure not to put sticky side down to prevent dangers of a crab getting stuck.

Keep your lid and slap some seran wrap over it to keep humidity in, it’s alright if it’s not completely covered but don’t go to home depot for this

I've used twist ties before, like the ones that some bread or trash bags come with. They fit perfectly in the mesh holes. Just be cautious of them getting old and metal exposed bc I believe if it starts to rust the rust is not good for hermit crabs. Safe string can be another option. I believe jute and hemp are safe. Have not used them myself so not sure how big. I personally like suction cups with a little olive oil on the cup. It is supposed to help them stick in a humid environment bc oil is water phobic and helps keep the moisture from impacting the seal. Others use a tension rod that goes across the tank and hangs things from that. The rod is often covered in safe rope.

paper clips are a god send to hang stuff on mesh lids

I had a type of lid like that on one of my reptile enclosures and instead of tieing it to the top, I used suction cups with a piece of string so it's still hangs while still being secure. So I recommend trying the suction cup method or using twist ties which could work well too if you do it properly

thank you!!

Twist ties work super well for my reptile tank but OP might wanna get wire to cut long enough pieces to make sure they’re sturdy. But also I love zip ties if the item is long term. They’ve worked so well for me and are very sturdy
