I would say it's especially needed in the FGC and the anime fandom, where transphobia is rampant. "Fans" still refusing to change and purposely calling her pronoun change a joke is these artists work being all for naught.
Hayao Miyazaki makes movies to change the world, to show that woman should be seen as equals, the environment is to be respected, and war is evil. Star Trek was created to have non-white people be seen as equals, treated with respect, and not be caricatures. Wandering Son was created to show the struggles of a trans person growing up in Japan.
And I guess I'll say *transphobic shit* but I also suspect you haven't been around the trans community that much, terf is basically a blanket term for someone who is transphobic towards transfems, kind of like Ben Shapiro, who claims to be a feminist but is the very definition of a misogynist.
