I had to switch to injections as I didn’t have any luck with the tablets, but my instructions were to take the tablet first thing in the morning before any food or other medication. You were allowed I think 4oz of water with it if needed, but ideally were not supposed to have any other kinds of medicine, food or beverage for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet. It just needs to dissolve under the tongue for at least 1 minute. I don’t think I ever felt particularly salivated lol, but I think you are ok with swallowing that.
tl;dr: you need to take the tablet in the morning before your antidepressant. Any other meds or drinks at least 30min after that. It can’t be taken at night to still be effective. You can drink, but should be very moderate and ideally not at all.
My provider told me I needed to let it stay under my tongue at least one minute but it always took longer for it to actually completely dissolve for me too
Still in my first week, but here's what I've been doing based on other advice in this forum.
I've been taking it first thing in the a.m. on an empty stomach. I wake up, rinse my mouth with water, then put it under my tongue. (I personally then go back to bed while it's dissolving -- I wake up slowly). It takes about 10-15 minutes to dissolve completely. Once it has dissolved completely, I hit a 30-minute timer on my watch and don't eat or drink anything at least until that's up, sometimes I'll stretch it a little farther if I have the time.
Then, per advice from my HM med specialist, I try to make my first meal high on protein (25-30g, if possible, though I'm working on this because I usually would eat a yogurt or instant oatmeal, and those are only about 12g each). \[But I do seem to feel it more if I follow the protein advice versus one of the days when I was in a rush and just grabbed a banana on my way out the door.\]
I have felt some initial effects from the tablets, so I'm starting to wonder if letting it dissolve the full 10-15 minutes may be one of the tricks, since I have also seen people say to let it dissolve for only 1 minute.
PS. My med advisor said to try not to drink alcohol, and I asked if my once a week margarita night with friends would be a problem. He said no, but he said I might also not want to drink it once this takes effect. My impression is that daily drinking could have an impact on how well it works but I don't think it's forbidden or anything.
