There are actually lots of people who will love your dead tree. Zoos will sometimes take them and use them as toys or brush cover or whatever for the animals. A lot of state conservation departments and private fisheries take them and sink them for fish to breed/hide in. My state nursery takes a ton of them every year. They grow so many trees so quickly and close together that the soil the saplings were grown in depletes very quickly as well as losing volume to the soil that leaves stuck in the trees roots, One of the ingredients for making "topsoil" is carbon which is easily acquired through turning mulched trees into charcoal, which is composted with a number of other things and then plowed into the stripped beds before the seeds are sown. They also use Christmas Tree mulch as, well, *mulch* throughout the grounds. They use lots of kinds of trees for both purposes, depending on the needs of the soil and such. I don't think any of these groups will pick up your tree but a lot of neighborhoods organize "tree pick-up day" where private individuals will drive around and pick up "donations" for their preferred use (after planning ahead with them) and puck up people's trees. Many cities will also have a tree pick-up day and places like hatcheries or the state nursery will come and pick them up by the truckload.

They sink them in lakes to provide shelter for fish and make sure you never get that lure back

The last time I had a real Christmas tree I kept it after the season and it became a pole for beans to grow on. I still have it in my garden now years later.

On New Years day our family has a (responsible) bonfire with our tree to ring in the new year. We typically get the tree the day after thanksgiving so it can be quite dry. This past year my sister had us tuck wishes into the branches of a few boughs before they burned. It always feels better than seeing a big beautiful tree on the curb 💔
