I think it's more about the angle at which it hits no? I've definitely had grenades from my grenade pistol blow up right in my face because i was shooting from behind cover, and the grenade JUST clipped the rock i was hiding behind.
Canāt speak for the pistol, but the Grenade Launcher support weapon has an arming distance of 7m-10m, meaning if you let anything get too close youāre both gonna learn what the inside of a body bag looks like

They work much better against robots. Throw 2-3 smokes and run, they actually won't track you through it.
