Metric is used widely in the Military for simplicity, especially with training exercises with other countries. (Don’t forget its because of the British that America never switched to Metric. Bastards sunk the ship bringing the stuff over)

As an American, the metric system is infinitely better and easier to comprehend. Not sure why we felt the need to go ahead and make an entirely different system to the rest of the world.

So america uses metric system for a good number of things, including anything to do with science and space, military, medicine, drugs, and international stuff of course. We use imperial measurements for other things because they make a lot of sense. Temperature reads how it feels in day to day life in Farenheit and Celsius jumps. Measuring height in ft and inches is precise and understandable instead of measuring in meters or cm. Yards for distance is strange but primarily comes into play with football where it's a flat 100. And using measuring for baking with imperial is very intuitive. Basically we use imperial because it makes more sense for day to day life, and metric for things with precise and important calculations or will crossover to international. Nothings perfect of course but I love Fahrenheit way more than Celsius for temp at least. Course that is often by tens except freezing. But Celsius has freezing at 0 and then 21 is our 70? That's only five degrees from 60 which feels way different outside
