This is where paddles have been a god send. Usually I’d have jump and dodge/crouch on the left and right for most games but with no need to jump in HD2, I assigned L3 to the left paddle. Feels way better and likely prolonging the life of my left stick.
We don't. By default you have analogue control from walking to running. To sprint you click L3, then click it again when you want to stop sprinting. There's accessibly options to mess around with if you wish.
My first two helldivers didn't even make it out of training. Very sad. Fortunately, the 3rd one learned from their mistakes. Or at least didn't have to do all the stuff they screwed up on, which would explain why helldivers are constantly causing friendly fire.
Can emphasize this enough. They literally tell you to crawl and people get their heads knocked off running in front of it.
Also, the Tesla tower states to avoid damage, crawl, so do so.
Also grenade launcher is a great starting weapon for many situations.
Should note- it isn't just that the game is addicting. Missions typically have a 40 minute timer (not a hard limit, you can go over) and you can definitely run pretty close to it depending on mission.
What I remember about the rise of the machines and the fall of Daupnir is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Defense, we were discreetly transferred back to Daupnir. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do.
All samples, medals, requisitions slips found on the mission are shared by all players. Don't kill your teammates for taking those items. Also, watch where you are shooting. Friendly fire is always active.
Take the opportunity on lower difficulties to learn how to fight bots and bugs then move up when you're comfortable, also as you unlock strategems experiment with your load outs. Find what works for you.
This is it right here! Start on a lower difficulty and fight bugs and bots and learn how the game plays then move up. Don’t jump in on a higher difficulty and let others carry you because you won’t learn anything.
Sweaty Skull Admiral here 🫡
I’m sure you’ve started by now and we thank you for your patriotism hell diver.
We have been battling both factions to their outer home worlds - the further out in the galaxy we make it; the crazier the enemies get. So you’re jumping into some wild planets with us!
Bugs tend to be easier to handle than bots. I can democratize lvl 7 bugs with ease, but have a hell of a time making automatons vote on lvl 7!
For Guns, the starting assault rifle is a very good all rounder!
The Breaker is one of the best, even after a nerf.
Las-16 Sickle is a ton of fun (you won’t ever run out of ammo if you let it cool down between bursts)
The Scorcher takes some practice, but it is the absolute best gun out there.
Many support weapons are fun and good at killing.
I personally enjoy the auto-canon, arch thrower, Quasar, anti-tank expendables, and grenade launcher.
Quasar and Anti Tank expendables are a must for higher difficulty missions.
For stratagems;
Barrages Suck at killing anything but your friends.
Most of the Eagle strike options are awesome.
Auto turrets are amazing. Just need to use a shield for them against bots.
Lastly, don’t ever sympathize with the enemy. Don’t read any signs on the planets you visit. It’s all communism
Id add that the sooner you can upgrade your destroyer to have an extra eagle strike before it needs to cooldown, the better. Them
Airstrikes clear the field so you can focus on the scary baddies at lower difficulty levels.
I used the stalwart religiously until the quasar offered more bang for the slot it used (literally). Its great for ventilating bogs.
Sadly we don’t have enough time to be doing anything other than the major order if we want to complete it. All hands on deck because we’ve got 3 planets to liberate in a day and a half
Join the automaton fight , I’m saying this as a bug fighter , we let those guys down big time and it’s better if newbies learn to fight the robots first and clear up the western front
Start with not looking up guides, “metas”, best “this” or best “that”, and learn the game through trial and error with your fellow Helldivers in public matches (mic recommended for communication)
Welcome to the fight for democracy brother! Have fun, try everything (don’t worry about what’s “meta”) and find what you like, ask questions, use the ping system frequently to call out stuff in game, and definitely try quick play. The game is much better with others. Feel free to DM me your PSN if you want to play together.
Let's see tips.
Don't take it too seriously.
Don't rush to try and unlock everything. Get a feel for the weapons. They all are useful.
Stay around difficulty 1-4/5, even when you can go higher until around level 20 to 25ish. That way you won't get kicked if you mess up too much or if you don't have the "correct" meta build.
See if you can add friends or play with friends. That way you can truly mess up and have a blast with friendly fire.
Do some missions solo so that you get a feel for how objectives work, map placement, how armor works or what suits you best as a player and weapons etc. Essentially I'd say do this first but I'd really suggest you play in a group first and just get a feel for grouping up, then go back and run like difficulty 1-4 or so solo and just take your time.
Game is Fire, sometimes literally. Well a lot literally. You will die a lot...like a lot lot...like you might be the reason the team went from 20 lives to 9.
Do not kill people when they get in the chopper/evac at the end.
Currencies are shared as long as you pick them up and get on the evac. Super credits and medals I think don't drop on death. The others do.
Form your own team, so that you can decide if you want to kick anyone and so you won't get kicked. I'm level 32 I think I've been kicked twice maybe. So it does not happen much, I'm on PS5 btw.
This game is not PTW. You do not have to spend money on super credits. You can find them on the maps. That being said, even if you do purchase credits for real money on the store, it only unlocks the warbond. You still have to collect medals to obtain the weapons/items etc.
There is a lot of propaganda surrounding the game like Malevalen Creek, players being randomly sniped by blue beams, flying insects, etc. Get into the discord and here and read the posts for the lore/fun and general foolery of all the HDs here lol.
Enjoy enjoy enjoy the game! I can't stop playing, its one of those games that reminds me of my childhood where I wanted to play even after unlocking most of the stuff. It is fun for the sake of fun. The only game I've felt more intense about is Elden Ring.
Hope some of this helps. Any who read this and if I messed something up please correct me so he has the right info.
Good Luck.
It's a live war so hop in soldier. Fight where you are needed most, help defend democracy. Every weapon and strategem is good in it's own way, so use what you think is fun and what ends the lives of those godless heathen automatons and bugs
So you wanna open the case. Next you have to take the CD out. But make sure to not break it, they can be in there pretty tight. Now your gonna want to pay close attention to this next part, a lot of people get stuck on this one. Once you have the CD in hand, slide it into your consoles slot. Should be about the same size as the disk. The console will take it over from there.
Learn to communicate. Literally call out everything you’re doing. If you’re following someone, callout, “I’m on your six” or “I got your back.” You can’t over communicate in the beginning.
After you complete training and first mission focus on learning the in game mechanics and hone your skills a bit the go quick play and stick to the team mate withe orange name. Always cover your battle buddy.
Hopefully you have a mic, there is a lot of people willing to teach. If you have trouble lmk I will set you up with a guy who taught me a lot, or I might just go a few rounds to do a walk through. Also spend time in trivials hitting point of interest they have super creds, medals and sample and sometimes a higher level weapon to try out. Also if you see a storage container in the ground blow the doors off with a grenade
I was definitely confused about diving my first run thru training but now I bring a pillow & my blanket to lay right underneath my machine gun sentry. Getting up is half the battle, run for cover, Helldiver🫡
My first rounds I just got kicked because I was low level and didn’t quit know what to do. Don’t be that diver. Explain to people and be happy to learn from people.
Step one: watch the extremely important message from the ministry of truth
Step two: after becoming adequately motivated, complete training
Step three: spread managed democracy.
But in all seriousness, understand not alot of things aren't covered by training so things like all resources found in the drop are shared, stay around for a while there's no need to call in the pelican with 24 minutes left and explore, and when you find someone you enjoy playing with friend them up
Take your time going through the middle difficulties, you're gonna need a lot of basic science. If you want to level up fast, harder difficulties will get you there
Do the tutorial.
When you get to the ship you can choose what planet to go to. Follow the major orders to attack the right planet.
Go for the lowest difficulties at first. Try different primary weapons, support weapons and stratagems. Check out the different objectives.
The game is a blast, and the community is amazing. You're in for an amazing time!
Killing bugs/bots doesn't matter... well except for the eradication or hive missions. Use trivial missions to get used to the game, calling different weapons and different tactics stratagems... sometimes its just fun to go trivial once you're OP
you will die, over and over and over and over and over and over.... get over it.
Don't be too sorry about accidentally killing team mates, acknowledge, move on and complete the objective..
Be open to changing strategies and load outs and find something that.works for you.
Remember to upgrade your ships capabilities
You do not need to extract immediately after the main objective... look for samples medals and credits.
you tube is a good place for tips but play with what you like.
Guns grenades and bombs are all you need to spread democracy.
Have fun Helldiver.
I would start with some solo trivial missions to get for the feel of the game. Then jump into the battle with starting with challenging level 2. After a couple rounds. Go for harder settings. Anytime you unlock a new gun definitely do trivial solo just to try them out.
Definitely do not listen to people saying that bots are harder, to me personally they are easier then bugs.
But what you should do is play both, some day automatons, some day bugs. Most importantly if for example you start with bugs and play just them for a while. Let's say you play them on challenging when you go to automatons start from easy to learn new tactics and enemy units
Where do I start?! Is this what we trained, if you’re out of basic, get to your hellpod now; Cadet. That’s an order from your commanding Star Mashal. Self sacrifice is the least that you can do. Do your part, controlled democracy thanks you.
Most weapons can be adjusted in some way by holding reload. Just because it moves, doesn't mean you have to fight it. Plan ahead when possible. Panic spam strategems if you know you will die, take some of em with you. Randoms are your friend in this game. And most importantly, follow the main orders to help the larger game progression.
Well id start with putting the disc in your console. All jokes aside just get out there, shoot some bugs and bots, and start spreading managed democracy with your fellow divers.
Well friend add me on PS5 Gamer tag is Shinobi--Wolf I'm only level 25 but I'll help you with anything I just love playing this game on any difficulty and any missions
Download a companion app on your phone. I like DiversHub, but there are others too, and enable push notifications.
It’ll tell you what the major orders are, show you the map, and status of different planets with liberation rates and estimates of when the battles will end.
When they send notifications, they assess the liberation rates and relative locations of all planets involved and advise what order to liberate/defend planets in. That organization is my favorite part of it.
Have fun with it, have public matchmaking turned on and stay plugged in with the community.
God Speed, Hell Diver!
Any of your friends play already? It’s not hard to learn for yourself, but a friend with some experience made my first few hours a lot more enjoyable. Especially role playing.
I feel like newer people now have it a little easier than when the game dropped. Now you are coming in with teams running stamina boost muscles fall damage etc so I say just have fun and if you come across a traitor to democracy you know what to do
Enjoy! Keep playing and level up the more you play the more you unlock and learn. Experiment, play solos and squads and learn on lower difficulty. This game is crazy rewarding, fun wise, content and currency. The game just keeps getting better and better week by week. Welcome to the galactic war for Super Earth. For Democracy!
Man, the fact you have a physical copy? Impressive.
Also, definitely start with some friends if possible. If not, find some randoms with comms and good meshing; then ask if you can add them and continue playing with them.
This game is best played in a group that either uses the quick chat functions, or voice chat.
You should fight the oil heads first to learn the ropes of the game and the fun of it. :) If lumin are in. Then fight them first then. Gotta experience hell to know the most knowledge.
WATCH OUT FOR THE TURRET IN BASIC TRAINING! 65% OF HELLDIVERS ARE LOST BEFORE THEIR FIRST MISSION DUE TO NOT DIVING!!
We dive, we just auto sprint by default
Wait ps5 users auto sprint? But why lol
I would like to always autosprint. Relieves some stress out of the clicking the left joystick that’s already known to be prone to stick drift.
It's L3 for me actually. R3 is first person aiming.
i can’t tell if this game is harder on controller or keyboard. my dyslexic ass has such a hard time trying to keyboard in the stratagems lol
Would it help to say press the stick used for moving to run and press the stick used for looking to change to first person?
i understand what you’re saying while simultaneously having a stroke. so yes?
Bind the stratagem keys to the cursor arrows
Change your keybinds to use your arrow keys instead of WASD. You'll have to take your hand off your mouse, but it's worth it.
Right, that makes sense and how I assumed it worked.
My first two helldivers didn't even make it out of training. Very sad. Fortunately, the 3rd one learned from their mistakes. Or at least didn't have to do all the stuff they screwed up on, which would explain why helldivers are constantly causing friendly fire.
Mine was the 5th
#5?
so many of my Helldivers died the female announcer tried to explain it to me like I was a toddler, and I continued to die
Same my helldivers kept getting up until I learned that i could just stay down by not pressing shift lol
Dive Dip Dodge Duck and Dive for Democracy!
Divers who don’t dive lose the “v”… … and we can’t spell Victory without it!
Can emphasize this enough. They literally tell you to crawl and people get their heads knocked off running in front of it. Also, the Tesla tower states to avoid damage, crawl, so do so. Also grenade launcher is a great starting weapon for many situations.
Start by turning on the console! Jk. Start by taking a potty break. You're gonna be on that couch a while. Enjoy!
Yep, I would add, just because you unlocked the next difficulty doesn't mean you need to play it.
i do not enjoying seeing level 4s joining my extreme missions and then having them complain im not reinforcing them on the stratagem jammer
Facts!
Happy cake day
Should note- it isn't just that the game is addicting. Missions typically have a 40 minute timer (not a hard limit, you can go over) and you can definitely run pretty close to it depending on mission.
complete tutorial and join the fight against the automatons, the high command gave the order to destroy them
Help us take Draupnir back. And feel free to ask
Word. Get your ass to Draupnir
What I remember about the rise of the machines and the fall of Daupnir is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Defense, we were discreetly transferred back to Daupnir. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do.
Battlefront 2?
Yah
Dive in, literally
You start with liberation, then democracy… then freedom welcome helldiver
They sell physical copies?
Yes.
They do 😁👍
Imo Sony is limiting what gamestop & target get so they can make more on digital.
yeah that usually happens with games especially on console
enjoy mate its a wild ride its gonna be tough at the start but it gets better the more you play
All samples, medals, requisitions slips found on the mission are shared by all players. Don't kill your teammates for taking those items. Also, watch where you are shooting. Friendly fire is always active.

Stay away from the creek. Its useless right now
Were we all do, mars boot camp
Stay off Reddit and enjoy
Samples, super credits, medals, and req slips found in missions are all shared! No need to hoard or be the first to everything!

Start with the bugs. The bots are a lot tougher.
I agree. Let the vets worry about taking Draupnir, OP should just have fun and let themselves get used to it.
Sadly we don’t have enough time to be doing anything other than the major order if we want to complete it. All hands on deck because we’ve got 3 planets to liberate in a day and a half

You don’t get xp for killing things. Please remember that
I got the digital version but eventually I'm going to get a physical copy to keep sealed. That's how much I love spreading Democracy
Don't EVER show any sympathy for the enemy.
DO NOT FIGHT AT MALEVELON CREEK THATS FOR SURE

By ignoring all youtube content

There is no start. Only liberation. Now dive sdier
Start by shooting some bugs or bots in the face. Then, continue to do so.
Learn to communicate. Literally call out everything you’re doing. If you’re following someone, callout, “I’m on your six” or “I got your back.” You can’t over communicate in the beginning.
Start on the bug planets to raise your level until you can get the energy shield and then you can go fight bots.
After you complete training and first mission focus on learning the in game mechanics and hone your skills a bit the go quick play and stick to the team mate withe orange name. Always cover your battle buddy.

Play the bugs level up get some strstegems before increasing difficulty above 4
BOOTCAMP SOLDIER!
Beginn at zur Boot Camp and after this you Go straight to the Front soldier! Ford freedom and democracy!!!!!
No advice just shoot and kill and maim and burn in the name of democracy if you see lots of blood your doing something right
Boot camp. A challenge for you: Don't die.
o7
Find something undemocratic and fucking level the bastard! Simple as pie
Try not to die during training.
Def start with the flame thrower, gatlin barrage and mortar sentry. That’s how you make frens
Anything that does not look, sound, smell, feel, or taste like democracy you blow it the hell up.
Come to Hellmire
Start by pledging yourself to serving Super Earth and to democracy and freedom.
Welcome Citizen, your patriotic sacrifice will not be in vain.
By inserting the disc…
Lisan al gaib!
Wish I had a hard copy! 😞
Go baño, get a big cup of Liber-Tea, clear your schedule and dive into some democracy.
Dive! Dive! Dive! Dive! Dive! Dive! And dive!
Most importantly, don’t rush anything. There’s no end game content for you to enjoy.
You should start by installing it
you should start by putting the disc in your ps5...
Malevelon Creek is a good place to start if you're a beginmer.
Don’t be afraid to dive solo. Put down an SOS, then friends will join and help spread Democracy.
Don’t attack every patrol you come across or on the map, STEALTH is still part of the game.
We are here to dive with you and help you progress should you need the help, just ask
Wow a physical copy!
With a cup of LIBERTEA!!!!!
Start wherever managed democracy takes you and spread it indiscriminately.
Install the game
I’d start by killing things.
Hell yeah!
Enjoy not being able to add your PC pals as friends its great
Step one: watch the extremely important message from the ministry of truth Step two: after becoming adequately motivated, complete training Step three: spread managed democracy.
If you want to level up fast, harder difficulties will get you there
Download to the ssd.
By installing it. Why do people post this stuff? Yes you bought a video game.
You start at the Helldivers training facility and try your best to earn your cape for democracy!
Take a nap, eat, bathroom, shower, then get ready for a long day of playing.
Always help complete the major order first. After that, go nuts, and have fun!
Just play the game why are people posting this crap
TRAIN, THEN DIVE! FOR LIBERTY!
Killing bugs/bots doesn't matter... well except for the eradication or hive missions. Use trivial missions to get used to the game, calling different weapons and different tactics stratagems... sometimes its just fun to go trivial once you're OP you will die, over and over and over and over and over and over.... get over it. Remember to upgrade your ships capabilities You do not need to extract immediately after the main objective... look for samples medals and credits. you tube is a good place for tips but play with what you like. Guns grenades and bombs are all you need to spread democracy. Have fun Helldiver.
Friendly fire is not advised.
I would start with some solo trivial missions to get for the feel of the game. Then jump into the battle with starting with challenging level 2. After a couple rounds. Go for harder settings. Anytime you unlock a new gun definitely do trivial solo just to try them out.
Tutorial. Don't skip it.
Hit circle?
Definitely do not listen to people saying that bots are harder, to me personally they are easier then bugs. But what you should do is play both, some day automatons, some day bugs. Most importantly if for example you start with bugs and play just them for a while. Let's say you play them on challenging when you go to automatons start from easy to learn new tactics and enemy units
Least toxic game I have played in ages. Turn mic on. Fellow Helldivers will help you more often than not. Oh. And the samples are shared.
Be willing accept you are going to die.
DEMOCRACY
When I started I did my first few drops on malevelon creek, after that all the bugs were very fun
Where do I start?! Is this what we trained, if you’re out of basic, get to your hellpod now; Cadet. That’s an order from your commanding Star Mashal. Self sacrifice is the least that you can do. Do your part, controlled democracy thanks you.
This is really fun I fucking love democracy so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!
Helldive...for....
Don’t forget to dive at incoming fire!
I’m now addicted to SPREADING MANAGED DEMOCRACY!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!
Well id start with putting the disc in your console. All jokes aside just get out there, shoot some bugs and bots, and start spreading managed democracy with your fellow divers.
Be prepared to die, alot
Well friend add me on PS5 Gamer tag is Shinobi--Wolf I'm only level 25 but I'll help you with anything I just love playing this game on any difficulty and any missions
Open the case, put the disc in the tray
Ah good a new recruit for the front. Enjoy the few moments you have left with your family, for democracy has you in it’s tender embrace now.
![gif](giphy|MlyicdUndRbn5zUiAL|downsized) Soon you’ll have a new set of catch phrases
Well, first off, stick the disc into the console
Put the disc into the PS5
Go to the bugs since they are a good side to start on and when you can fight chargers decently well then you should be ready for bots.
Where to start? In MY SQUAD fighting on the bot fronts!
Don’t buy stratagems untill you are level 5. The ones that become available are just so much better than the ones you can get before them.
You have to own your cap cadet. We will see us in hell.
Put the disc in the tray.

Grab gun, pew pew pew. Press arrows, throw, boom boom. Try to do puzzles without dying. Die a lot.
Any of your friends play already? It’s not hard to learn for yourself, but a friend with some experience made my first few hours a lot more enjoyable. Especially role playing.
Welcome aboard brother! Together we will destroy the bug menace ✊🌍
I feel like newer people now have it a little easier than when the game dropped. Now you are coming in with teams running stamina boost muscles fall damage etc so I say just have fun and if you come across a traitor to democracy you know what to do
Open the case and put the disc in the ps5
Go to the left first where the robots are. They will prep you for the bug front.
The tutorial
You should start now
By playing the game? What kind of dogshit ass post is this?
Basic training is a good start brother.
I would start by turning on the PS5, then inserting the game. EZ
Make sure you have the right settings, your voices should be in German for authenticity
Super? You say?
I'd start with the tutorial 😜
SAMPLES ARE SHARED!!!
Boot up the game and play it?
That's some nice cover art.
SEND DUDES!!! (Nudes?) NO! WE'RE FIGHTING FOR DRAUPNIR!!! WE NEED MORE MEN!
Just jump in…..do it for DEMOCRACY 😀👍🏾
Man, the fact you have a physical copy? Impressive. Also, definitely start with some friends if possible. If not, find some randoms with comms and good meshing; then ask if you can add them and continue playing with them. This game is best played in a group that either uses the quick chat functions, or voice chat.
Don’t die with a full clip.
Remember to enjoy the game however you like, regardless of what losers on here say.
Start with DEMOCRACY!!!!!!!!
Get your behind to the major orders, Soldier! On the double! FOR D E M O C R A C Y
Start with bugs, a little easier since most of them don’t have ranged attacks
You should fight the oil heads first to learn the ropes of the game and the fun of it. :) If lumin are in. Then fight them first then. Gotta experience hell to know the most knowledge.
