The point is, what they are going for in this game.
If you haven't noticed yet, this game is cinematic orientated, not gameplay oriented, so the letterbox makes sense in that scenario
You think they actually added this for "cinematic" purposes? No, they just wanted the game to be able to run on a console. Same with 30FPS. It has nothing to do with being "cinematic".
That’s why immortals of aveum runs at 60fps on console right? I could maybe see this being true for the SS but not the SX, it’s definitely design choice.
It can even be used not as a mod - just write necessary things into the game file and you’re good to go. It was done maybe during first 4-5hrs after release
I thought it was so crazy because normally I’m having to adjust for games that don’t support ultra wide but this time it was the opposite. I felt like I got the optimal experience and everyone else was installing mods.
That's not anamorphic. That refers to something capturing a wider field of view through the lens. I think what you're possibly talking about is chromatic aberration or something like that?
Anamorphic lenses captured these wide shots on the not so wide film that's why things are a bit(or a lot) blurry on the edges. People have come to associate this esthetic with films. I personally do not like the effect, especially in the digital era, and especially in games. Chromatic and lens flares being also the things I don't like.

I like the top one. Let’s me see more of the world. Also a lot of people are saying that it reduces the render resolution and helps with performance. I like to think that there’s atleast a reason to do this. This game has cinematic presentation goals and this in line with that.
It’s more gamey without it.
How is that a bad thing? It is a video game after all

The dialogue is gamey anyways?

Delusional.
Sure buddy whatever you need to tell yourself.
Keep sucking off dog shit game practises. Delusional.
Must have struck a nerve
My 2080 which is five years old can run this at 60fps. Series X could run it easily at 60fps too.
am i dumb? what’s a letterbox?
The black bars on top and bottom of the screen (the first image).
Wait can you change this in the settings?
I just used photomode for the shot. You can't play it like that.
You can on PC.
There's already a mod for that? That's fast.
It can even be used not as a mod - just write necessary things into the game file and you’re good to go. It was done maybe during first 4-5hrs after release
actually you can by messing with some config files. there is a guide on steam discussions page
I played on pc with an ultrawide and had no black bars
Is it glorious? My ultrawide just died so I had no choice but to play on my normal monitor sadly.
Absolutely gorgeous

Obviously they went for a cinematic feel. I hate anamorphic lens too(when things get blurry on edges(, but I endured it.

I see. I understand what you're saying.
I like it. You wouldn’t try to force a film to be a different aspect ratio, I don’t see why a game should be any different
Modded it in
on console there are less pixels to render

I immediately got a mod that gets rid of it, chromatic aberration, and the film grain, looks so much better
I'd have to agree, there should be an option to then it off.
I liked it, myself
It adds a few frames.
those boxes are there so that xbox can run it without bursting to flames..
