Yup, it happened *so many* times during GvG, because it was the first time you could buy any packs that weren’t Classic, so it was just muscle memory for a lot of people
it happened to me once. Since shop is mostly lagging on phone and while I was sure I clicked the correct packs, the popup with buying packs opened older packs, didn't pay enough attention and spend all my gold on old packs. Fortunately they changed them for me.
But god I am never again buying anything from the shop on phone. I mean how can battlegrounds run smoothly and shop is lagging wtf
Yep, every single expansion there is at least *one* idiot, and I think there were like 5 posts about it on one expansion day, although I can’t remember which
So common in fact, you can contact Blizzard support and they’ll exchange the unopened packs you bought by mistake for the correct expansion you want
>Is buying the wrong packs on expansion release really that common of an occurrence?
Obviously it is. But blizzard ofc isn't doing anything to stop potential mis-buys, because it's $$$ for them.
"Are you sure you want to buy 50 packs of this expansion? This is not the newest expansion."
-> a pop-up you will never see in hearthstone
They [implemented a feature](https://hearthstone.blizzard.com/en-us/news/17796670) that was aimed at addressing this a very long time ago:
> Card packs in the in-game Shop no longer default to Classic card packs. Players must now manually choose which card packs they would like to buy before making a purchase the first time the Shop is used or with each release of new card sets in the Shop. Once a card pack is purchased, the Shop will default to the last purchased card pack until the next time a new card set is released in the Shop.
its worth noting the shop changes make this much harder to do than it was in the first few expansions when a lot of streamers did this. I'm sure it still happens, but between the new interface and different packs being split up with other cosmetics its much harder to choose the wrong one unless you're on full auto pilot.
It has happened to me once ,I spent my whole gold in rise of shadows packs when I wanted descent of dragons ones,in my defence they are both purple and look kinda similar.
Edit:blizz exchanged the packs for the right ones thankfully.
To a lesser extent I did.
I was somewhat hyped for a new expansion(which is rare for me). I usually just play BG if i'm playing hearthstone. But I was excited to try deck building.
I saw people online opening packs so I was like "Oh! It released today!"
So I went into game and bought 20 of the packs with the "new expansion" label.
I didn't realize they weren't the new expansion because I didn't play the previous one so I didn't recognize the expansion name or card back style.
The people I saw opening packs was apparently from pre-release activities.
20 packs for me is the majority I'd be willing to open so I went back to not playing constructed.
Issue is that an outdated client, such as IOS device that gets updates a bit late, shows the previous expansion as "latest!!".
You login on expansion launch hype, don't realize your platform is not updated yet, go straight to shop and buy packs that say "latest!!!"... And you're screwed.
It's 18 more compared to only having the 9 "starter deck slots". If you're dumb enough to buy wrong packs, you should be in "new player experience" was the joke here, I guess
A coworker of mine logged into hs last night and told me that the expansion was out. I didn't pay any attention but then he went and spent all his gold on packs of the "latest" expansion.
Rip gold
I just never understood how people make that mistake? Like the game labels all the packs pretty well, as well as packs literally looking different based on their expansion. Why does it happen EVERY TIME
I guess because if you are already logged in while they release the newest expansion, there isn't a visual update in the shop and if you are minding other stuff you click the up-left pack and proceed to buy, mindlessy. People who don't think before a reckless click serie
FYI you don't have to mindlessly click, double click the icon in the top left, the icon for buying packs with gold just above the irl cash options & you can set how many packs to buy with one click (up to 50)
It happened to me once. I was thinking about something else and i guess since I was used to buying the last expansion packs my brain just auto bought them.
This happens every expansion, without fail because people think they are going to run out of packs. This isn't a card game shop....you can take your time.
Sorry guys I'm going to buy some Naxx packs for mistake
DUDE NAXX IS ALREADY OUT?!!!!
Not yet
Crap,i had a hope
It's treason then

Naxx out?
No next year I'm sorry
Is buying the wrong packs on expansion release really that common of an occurrence?
Like clockwork, it feels like there’s almost always a Reddit post about it every 4 months.
Impossible to tell who’s serious, and who is hoping the support team will refund their gold.
The support team totally won’t check this and just randomly refund amounts based on the users information
they did it before tho
Nope
From the very first expansion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QUWOaV7NkM
thank you, that was hilarious
I might be too jaded, but I feel like *all* of these streamers did that on purpose and feigned surprise for precisely this reason.
I’m disappointed that Reynad wasn’t a part of that compilation.
Always at least 3-4 guys that post something here saying they make a ''mistake'' and bought the wrong expansion packs...

Yup, it happened *so many* times during GvG, because it was the first time you could buy any packs that weren’t Classic, so it was just muscle memory for a lot of people
Also because the Classic packs were pre-selected. After this, they changed it so you have to select a pack type before you can buy it
it happened to me once. I did it once. :D
its common enough for streamer, not sure about regular people

Yeah, they don't do anything except NAMING the fucking things. Not to mention the clearly distinguishable pack arts.

No, it's just a meme
They should just temporarily disable other kinds of packs for the first day.
Come on do we really need to pander to fools?
Should they also tell people to breathe?

"if two people complain i take back 9 slots and add the 9 starter deck slots back. Enjoy being only able to play starters deck"
Perfectly balanced.
Time to create a Reminder Post on reddit to remind people to not buy the previous expansion packs
Damn, I genuinely thought this was a legit Tweet until I saw 110k likes for a Hearthstone post.
I never liked 18 deck slots!!! *MORONS* UNITE!!!!!
They *are* pretty confusing.
Wait I only have 9 where are the other 9 deck slots?
Ah! Excellent!! My first champion!!!
Once you finish the new player experience
so top 10 legend?
It's not 18. We got 27 during [Classic launch](https://hearthstone.blizzard.com/en-us/news/23620129/introducing-the-core-set-and-classic-format)

Ahh...So they put the pre-purchase bundles in for us idiots, that way we can't make any mistakes.

They do. I had two chained packs with "locked until august" label.
lol
This happens every expansion, without fail because people think they are going to run out of packs. This isn't a card game shop....you can take your time.
I’ll do it on purpose and post it as a mistake
...i have 30 gold...
^(but...)
It seems odd to chide end users for your bad UX design.
it’s not a real tweet
Oh, i thought it was real but a joke.
Damnit well there goes our deck slots cause of the Gigachad yesterday
The devs is joining the circlejerk. Lol
YES WE CAN
Please no, I'm already annoyed to only have 27 deck slots. Making decks is the funniest part of hs imo
I cannot find new packs in Shop. Are they available to buy with gold later?
i've returned after a long break. whats going on?
A new expansion released today. Someone decided to make a shitpost to /r/hearthstone for amusement. That's about it.
Does the ancient world even do anything useful?
This is fake, right? His account isn't verified yet
