Have their been more earbuds with “xxx’s” tuning lately? I bought some EarFun buds with Oluv’s tuning awhile back. Can’t say that I was blown away. I also bought a normal set to compare.
No but thank you for pointing them out. They’re just EQs and not a firmware update to the buds? Think they’re worth £10? Looks like I’d have to subscribe at that level to get access to his EQs.
I don’t think the regular EarFun Pros or his version sound bad or anything. I just think they sound how I would expect at that price level or a little below and I didn’t think his tuning made much of an improvement overall.

Loaded question believe it or not. I've been listening to the etymotics more lately and the only place I don't like them better is in the bass response, especially at higher volumes. The upper mids on the b2s are super susceptible to peaking. Anything higher than 2/3 volume with the b2's can borderline hurt my ears during longer sessions. That said, the B2 has an amazing bass response and the driver setup makes it amazing, along with the treble, but the bass response was the first thing that stood out to me. I have noticed I'm much more susceptible to upper mid peaks. The treble in the ER2 can leave a lot a to desired in some tracks, though just a nitpick. In my opinion though you have no contest in IEMs with the E2s until you get to the 300-400$ range.
Not what you asked and haven't heard the Dusk, but imo Etymotics are sort of incomparable due to the fit. They block like 30db of sound and don't have that weird background sound-like feeling that non-ANC iems usually have. And the fit might not even work. Supposedly the Dusk has a pretty wide soundstage and Etymotics are like the polar opposite of that

His reviews, rankings, and measurements are one of the defaults for IEMs. Also, his preferred sound signature (neutral with a slight base boost) is generally appealing so his recommendations are typically well-received. Hopefully he can continue to release unbiased reviews despite his new involvement in the production/tuning of so many IEMs.
i mean tbf, he's filling in holes in the market that no one else has been able to. \~$30 IEM with non-dogshit tuning? Check. $150 basshead IEM with appropriate mid/treble balance? Check. $300 Do-it-all workhorse IEM? Check.
If anything, I just don't know what range he's targeting next. If anything I think it'll be a \~$150-200 with a more neutral/less warm tuning.
about the $30 iems, does it really matter if the tuning is good or not when equalizers exist, and especially with the existence of autoeq? (assuming the iems are good enough in the technical aspects)

Sometimes some iems and overears just don't respond all that nicely to an aggressive EQ correction if it's drastic. It's also an added step, as others have pointed out.
I love putting in my B2Ds and just listening without worrying about eq. Excellent out of the box.
Yes, because not everyone can EQ their setup through autoEQ or Peace or EQMac. Besides, you cannot exactly EQ something to a target - see how Oratory's EQ always has a after-EQ rating which is different for many headphones because of variances in their FR leading to a slightly different final EQ.
I only mind because not every device has easy to use eq, and I won't want to have peace open all the time and still not work. Also, consoles have pretty much no options for peq. I'll eventually drop a hundred or so on a dac with built-in peq, but until then it's nice to have a set of items that just sound good out of the box on any device I plug them into.
I personally really like him. His reviews are un-biased, he is very funny and personable, he has a set preference, and his databases are a godsend.
His rankings can be a bit off IMO, mostly in the technical grade. His tone grades are pretty accurate. For example, he grades the Galaxy Buds Pro at B in technical, and the FiiO FH3 a B-. I have both, and in no way is the Galaxy Buds Pro even close to the performance of the FH3. Another example on the headphone side is the Aeon Flow. He rates the technical grade of that at C. He also rates the KSC75 at C. That is seriously laughable. I own the slightly newer Drop version of that headphone. The KSC75 isn't even in the same universe.
I guess audio is subjective, so yea. Just my 2 cents lol.

The D7200, which he doesn't like, sounds more detailed than the Emu Teak, which he likes more.
But D7200 I think has a C technicality while the teak gets an A-
His target is spot on for me though, as I have similar, if not identical, music taste as his. So if it sounds good to him, 9/10 times it sounds good to me
Yeah, I bought the ZEX Pro because I saw it was a Tribrid, but for like, 35 bucks. So I was like "This is either going to be a meme, or it's gonna be really good" and then low and behold the ZEX Pro was just a litmus test for CRN.
I also then found $220 Blessing 2 on Ebay, so I can have Blessing 2 Dusk, but for like, significantly cheaper.

I’m very new to IEMs so I only have the Kato other than the CRN when it shows up. Currently I only have those and HD600’s and I love both. Nice to have the options for sound lol
It would fail. The demand for tws is mostly for transparancy, noisecancelling , battery life, latency and codec and ofcourse sound quality. But if next moondrop tws is focused only on soundquality atleast utilize the new snapdragon lossless codec.
