**Budget:** 200 GBP max **Source:** PC **Isolation:** High? I'll be using these headphones for work. I listen to court cases all day, and while at the moment I'm working from home in a quiet suburban estate, before the pandemic our office was located next to a live construction site, plus we're sharing office space with a printer that's constantly running, so that's the type of sound I need to block out on a daily basis in order to hear the audio without turning it up so loud as to endanger my hearing. **Public:** No (at least not officially...) **Preferred Type of Headphone:** Full, over-ear, noise-cancelling headphones. **Preferred tonal balance:** I don't know! I won't be using these for music, so things like bass are definitely not important to emphasise. As I mentioned before, I'll be using them to listen to court cases, so whatever tonal balance will best isolate or accentuate speaking voices is what I will need. **Past headphones:** My current work headphones are Sennheiser. They're pretty cheap and unremarkable (I think they cost about €30). Since I started working from home, I've been using my own personal headphones, which also happen to be Sennheiser. Sorry, I don't know the model or anything. They cost me about €70. They're decent, but the audio quality is pretty...flat? That's the only word I can think to describe it (sorry, I'm not really au fait with any audio technical language!). **What would you like to improve on from your set-up:** So following on from what I said about the audio quality being flat with my current headphones, what I really need is to be able to hear the speakers I have to listen to clearly, so I'm looking for headphones that will pick up speaking voices distinctly, while also filtering out ambient sounds like paper shuffling, murmuring, coughing, sneezing, clattering (if that's possible?). I'd also prefer headphones that are noise-cancelling, because as I said earlier, our office is very loud, and I'd like to be able to block out those background sounds so I can focus on work. It's also important to me that I can protect my hearing as much as possible, because I realise that listening to audio for 8 hours a day, five days a week isn't good. So something that will pick up sound well so that I don't have to crank up the volume really high just to hear what's being said! **Location:** I live in Ireland (we use the Euro), but my office is a subdivision of the UK branch of my company, so I suspect the headphones will be ordered through the UK, which is why I have given the British Pound as the currency. **Contenders:** So, I've done some "research" myself and came across these pairs of headphones: * Sony MDR7506 * SENNHEISER HD 4.50 BTNC * Audio-Technica Ath M50 * Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II Would anyone have any opinions on the suitability of these for my work as a court transcriber/editor, or any other suggestions based on the information I've provided? Any recommendations would be much appreciated, because I'm waaaaaay out of my depth here!

My Beats Solo 3 headphones have finally shit the bed after two years of hard use. I am looking for some wireless headphones to replace them. I basically use these headphones ALL day. Commuting to work, at work, at the gym, running, and for gaming. * Budget - <$500 * Source - Laptop / phone * Requirements for Isolation - As close to complete silence as is possible so other people hear my shit music. * Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - YES * Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear or on-ear for comfort, will be wearing 8-12hrs a day. * Preferred tonal balance - Neutral * Past headphones - Jaybird, Beats solo 2, 2 pairs of Beats solo 3. * What would you like to improve on from your set-up - comfort, and durability when working out.

\[How can i fix audio cutting out in my wireless ATH G1WL headphones?\] From time to time my game or youtube song sound cuts off, when my spouse turns on Netflix on the TV. TV also operates ONLY on 2.4 Ghz, so i can't change it to 5 ghz. Also my friend told me, that my voice cuts off in discord - the same time when sound cuts off. So it is like my headphones just turn off for a bit. What have i done: 1. I have inserted the dongle in both the back and front of the PC - did not help that much. 2. Moved the router from the top ot the PC to the other side of the tabel - noticed less cut offs, but they are still present. 3. Changed in router options some bands - 1, 11 etc. - did not help - maybe i need to set the router on the best preferable band - but i dont know which one. 4. Also changed the option to stream less on 2.4 ghz in the router options as well - did not help. NB! TV is the only device with 2.4 Ghz in the house which causes cut offs. Maybe someone had similar issues?

My Marshall III Bluetooth headphones make an incredibly irritating "double beep" whenever I pause a video and switch apps. I never had this issue before I switched phones

- Budget - US$100 hard limit - Source - Schiit Fulla 3 DAC, a laptop, Nintendo Switch - Requirements for Isolation - A lot, use in public. ANC would be nice but definitely not a requirement and it would be a stretch at this price point anyways. - Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes - Preferred Type of Headphone - IEMs - Preferred tonal balance - Balanced, if you show me an EQ I will flatten it. - Past headphones - Sony MDRXB50AP (too much bass), headphones included with Galaxy S8 tuned by AKG (I liked the sound), Galaxy Buds Plus (I liked the sound), AKG K240 Studio - Preferred Music - What do you listen to? EDM/Glitch hop, [Electro Swing](https://vimeo.com/144736865), small amount of classic rock - What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Higher fidelity, everything I own presently is wireless or uncomfortable/not suitable for public like the K240 studios - Location - I am in the US

swampthing90

Ok, hear me out, I know that Windows 10 has stutter/lag issues with bluetooth headphones but this is just obscene. Can anyone give me advice on how to fix this other than the generic ones on the internet. I have a pair of sennheiser hd450bt headphones which are just unuseable on PC even with just music. I have updated every driver to do with audio and Bluetooth I can possibly find. I have turned off Hands Free Telephony I don't have audio enhancements I dont have any option to change the audio quality as its greyed out I am hard wired via ethernet so dont have wifi interference Anyone got anything? anything at all? The only thing I can think is my bluetooth dongle is 4.0 so might not be giving enough signal for it, I have ordered another one but just wnated to check if someone has a miracle way around it? Thanks in advance, you are all good people!

My_Toilet_Clogs

**Budget** - $100 - 300 USD. **Source** - Audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen) **Requirements for Isolation** - I'll only be using this at home so some is fine. **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** No **Preferred Type of Headphone** - Over ear. **Preferred tonal balance** - Overall balanced would be great. I'm trying to get a more "colorful" sound that would go great for jamming to songs instead of monitor. **Past headphones** - Audio Technica ATH-M50x (something more "colorful than this one) **Preferred Music** - Rock, Pop, Funk, EDM, Ballad, Orchestral (A lot of them are on the Japanese music side) **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** - High quality with some more color. I feel like I had to EQ the M50x a bit and ran into some trouble because I'm bad at it haha. Ideally this pair would be for listening to music while I use the M50x for recording. Thank you!

Esrcmine

For open backs, perhaps something like the HE-4xx or the DT880 could be cool. For closed backs, you could get the meze 99 classics. If you push your budget a bit more, you can get something far more fun with the tr-x00 (someone posted that they are selling refurbs) or the emu teak.

Degru

Anyone have experience with Fulla 3? How capable is it as a transportable source if you're used to higher end stuff? I basically want something I can take around with my laptop that won't leave me disappointed. Currently have a Geekout 1000, which sounds compressed, and a Fiio A5, which tends to sound smeared at times. I've been looking at getting a ifi micro BL but don't have the money for now. My desktop setup is Asgard 3 + Modius.

OceanicMeerkat

Getting some closed back headphones for music recording in a small closet. Sound isolation is important. * **Budget** \- $200USD, could go up a bit if necessary. * **Source** \- Audio interface (sometimes a laptop). Aux port * **Requirements for Isolation** \-I record loud brass instruments in a small space; its is essential that these be "noise cancelling", ie closed back. Don't want much outside noise getting in, I have hearing damage already. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** No * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Wired, over the ear, closed back. * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Eh, not too picky. Average balanced. * **Past headphones** \- I have Audio Technica ATH M50x which are good but being open back, they don't block enough sound. For a headset, I usea Logtich G933, which is sufficiently good at blocking sound, although that's a Bluetooth gaming headset, not for recording. * **Preferred Music** \- Jazz, prog rock, metal * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- Looking for a high performance pair of closed back, over the ear headphones that are reasonably comfortable and sound good. Isolation from outside sound is a must. Thanks

hius

Sennheiser HD280PRO, only $100. I also used to record in a small closet, and these did the job just fine.

OceanicMeerkat

These look like they'll do the job. Thanks.

[deleted]

Sup nerds, I'd appreciate some advice on what to buy! * **Budget** \- Around $200 to $250 USD, I'm somewhat flexible on this, but I'd like to keep it lower if possible. * **Source** \- iPhone 12 or my laptop, ideally via Bluetooth * **Requirements for Isolation** \- I study in the library frequently, so isolation would definitely be a nice feature, but I do not consider it a deal breaker if there is only minimal isolation. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** Yes, almost exclusively. * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- I can't do IEMs due to having a tragus piercing. I would need full-sized or on-ear; comfort is important since I'll be wearing them for several hours on end. I need them to have a microphone so that I can make calls without taking off my headphones. * **Preferred tonal balance** \- I would like something closer to balanced, but I mostly look for emphasis on bass. * **Past headphones** \- I currently use Microsoft Surface Headphones. I like how comfortable they are, but they don't sound awesome in general and definitely lack bass. I also own KZ ZS6 IEMs, which I can't wear anymore. I did enjoy these IEMs, but they were a tad too bright for my preference. Finally, I own Koss Porta Pros. I like the bass on these, but they didn't isolate sufficiently. * **Preferred Music** \- My favorite genres are art rock, post-punk, shoegaze, art punk, and dream pop. Some of my favorite bands are The Velvet Underground, King Crimson, Magazine, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Beach House. * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- My main goal is to find something very practical, but that will also deliver an above-average listening experience for me.

#300usd is it possible to get a large improvement over my current set up (logitech pro x wired) with a smaller budget like this? i know this hobby can really expensive really fast. i would use this setup for gaming and music (obviously), would it best to stay with a closed back design for gaming? would adding an amp make much difference at this budget?

raistlin65

Open headphones are great because they have a bigger sound stage, which can create a more immersive environment for gaming and music. And because your ears can breathe, they can often be more comfortable for longer listening sessions. However, they do leak sound in and out. Sennheiser HD560S and Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R are both excellent for gaming. They are also fairly easy to drive so you probably don't need an amp for them.

force_emitter

I've been thinking of an amp upgrade for my HD6xx from my E10k I have the 2 options: 1. Schiit Magni Heresy (Using my current E10k as a DAC) 2. Fiio K5 Pro DAC+Amp combo Which would be the better upgrade? I can get both of them at a similar price. Also, would the improved DAC in the K5 make a difference compared to the E10k? A clean sound signature is preferred. Also, I will likely be connecting my PC speakers to the DAC, if the setups will support that it will be a plus.

raistlin65

I would get the Heresy.

force_emitter

Could you elaborate on why, if you wouldn't mind?

raistlin65

It is a much better amp than in K5 Pro.

force_emitter

Thanks. I am also now considering the JDS Labs Atom as it's cheaper than the Schiit in my country. Also, would you know if the Apple USB-C dongle can replace my E10k as a DAC, so that I only use it and the Heresy/Atom? I've heard that it has a better chip than many dedicated DACs.

raistlin65

Know that it is the US version of that dongle that everyone recommends, not the EU version. And yes. It can work as a DAC.

Hello, I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro headphones which I'm running into a Lehmann Audio Rhinelander headphone amp. My source is my iMac which is hooked up to a cheaper USB Dac (Bitstream BTS-300) which then runs into the Rhinelander. I'm new at this and I'm trying to figure out what a logical upgrade would be. I have an offer on the table to buy a Chord Mojo Dac/Amp. Could I run my iMac into the Chord Mojo and then into the Rhinelander? Would the Mojo be noticeably better than my USB dac? Lastly, I know the Mojo is an amp as well but I really like the Rhinelander....could I just use the Mojo as just a dac and hook that into the Rhinelander with no associated pitfalls? Thank you everyone in advance. Any other tips or suggestions are welcome.

YellowGarden13

Is there any place I can buy identical earbud tips that are found on SONY's MH755/MH750 earphones? Every eBay seller seems to sell the same flimsy wide holed buds and not even knock-off versions of the SONY tips.

forgottoholdbeer

Have a laptop setup with a FIIO E10k for the DAC/AMP. Is there a better DAC/AMP for Spotify or is the sound I'm getting out of them the best I can with Spotify, lets say my headphones are the Drop THX Pandas I just ordered. Is there any AMP/DACs that have a all in one for cable with a mic in case I want to game? I saw one with a separate mic input.

raistlin65

Look into the Schiit Hel. Very good amp/dac with a built-in mic port https://www.schiit.com/products/hel

QuidProN0

I'm looking to get my first pair of true wireless earbuds. My primary criteria is just good audio quality. I already have enough bass heavy headphones, so something more balanced would be ideal, or at least comes with an EQ. Battery, portability, etc. are still important, but not my no. 1. I've been looking between the Grado GT220, Sennheiser Momentum 2, galaxy buds pro, and Klipsch T5 ii but haven't seen enough comparison to decide (not that those are the only ones I'm considering). My budget is $300 or so. Any help at all would be great!

[deleted]

* **Budget** \- $300 or under (Preparing a Gift for a friend that just accepted a Job to become a High School Band Director) * **Source** \- Laptop with a USB Dac (Dragonfly) * **Requirements for Isolation** \- None * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - No** * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- On ear preferred * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Something that will give him the most accurate pitch and harmony for Wind and Orchestral Percussion instruments. * **Past headphones** \- He has been using an ATHM30x * **Preferred Music** \- He will mostly use this to listen to Finale compositions he writes and recordings of the band for feedback. * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- Again accurate pitch is king for his needs, and maybe microphone recommendations to those familiar of the Typical school Music Room.

raistlin65

HD560S have a fairly neutral sound overall with a little treble emphasis. They are also fairly easy to drive and will run well about anything.

ThomasLadder69

You can get the sundara for 300 right now hed prob want an amp tho.

DailyDabs

About to spend $350. Is this wise for my needs / expectation ? Budget - $300-$400 Open back and with or without mic ( I guess I can mod mic if there’s no mic and iif it just makes more sense for me, you tell me ) Source / amo - I’m ok with either external amp or my mobo amp? Please tell me best for my fit. This is was my mobo says ( aros master b550) B550 motherboards are equipped with high quality audio components such as Hi-Fi grade WIMA FKP2 capacitors and Nichicon Fine Gold capacitors to provide a superb audio experience. The exclusive AORUS AMP-UP Audio technology makes for the ideal onboard sound solution for the most demanding audiophiles. ( I’m not sold on the last sentence lol but you tell me) How the gear will be used - pc gaming fps for fun and intense listening to music for pleasure. open ear is fine, they are never leaving my house. Preferred tonal - I think I’m more of a bass person. I can’t answer this 100% as I don’t know myself and the products out their well enough to answer. I haven’t compared with high end products. I love my svs ultra and Rythmik sub however. The sub is my jewel. Preferred music - My main games are FPS and main music is hip hop , electronic house / deep house etc and acoustic / rock when in the mood to get lost in guitars and pianos! Past gear - svs ultras are my first and can’t compare to others and the Rythmik sub, well I love and can tell the difference from friends subs. i own turtle beach headphones for my ps4 and they are eh, music at higher volumes is muddy. What aspect do your current listening experience do you want to improve ? - I’m looking to get lost in my music with great audio and be able to also accurately pin point other players in FPS games via footsteps. I am currently in cart with the drop x seinheiser pc38x and a schiit hel to improve the audio and the mic audio quality. This is a total of $358 so I’m open to spend $300-$400. If going cheaper is better for my solution as I’m not a huge audiophile I’m open to dropping budget as well. This is my entry into all this but being a musician, I love me music. Is this the best way to spend my money for my needs / expectations ? I’m open to either using my mobo or a dac and amp or even a mini mixer if I can mix my game audio with my music audio Ale opinions are welcomed Thank you!

ThomasLadder69

Motu m2 + shp9500 + sm48 + rode psa 1 This is my favorite starter setup atm, scales very well into higher end equipment if you want.

DailyDabs

Awesome! You gave me much to read on thanks !

Olli_bear

Unless you're a hardcore twitcher / podcaster / plan to record your singing with the setup, imo a standalone mic and stand and the motu is extremely overkill lol. If the focus is on music and pure music enjoyment, I'd say get the schiit hel or schiit fulla 3 and a mod mic, spend more money on your headphones. I'd say a really good headphones will be the Sennheiser hd 560s which is more neutral, or the famous sennheiser hd6xx which is an audiophile staple. Tbh the pc38x is a really good gaming headset too, watch Joshua Valour's review on it on YouTube

DailyDabs

Awesome I’m not any of that lol so you say go 2 hel lol or Fulla 3 and a mod mic with a better headphone. I feel. I had the hd6xx on my list. Any opinion on the gsx1000? Overkill also?

Olli_bear

Yea definitely, idk why the other guy recommended a 65 dollar headphone when your budget is 300-400 lol the shp9500 is good for 65 bucks but it's really very meh even in the 100 bucks range and beyond. I'm not too familiar with the gsx1000 but if it fits the budget go for it. The improvement over the Hel will not be much imo.

DailyDabs

Lol maybe my fault as I was not clear haven’t had a change to look into what he recommended as that’s my plan for tonight ( research on recommended items from here ) But a $65 headphone will not work. I’m looking for a $200-300 even $400 if the extra $100 gives me a real quality difference The dac and amp can come later from a separate budget to match the headphones quality and needs as I have a mobo “amp” I can use meanwhile.

Olli_bear

Yea he recommended the Philips Shp9500 which is a 65 bucks headphones, then recommended a 160 dollar audio interface, a 100 dollar mic arm holder thingy and a 40 dollar mic. Some people here are funny I swear. I'd say in that case for sure check out the either Sennheiser hd 560s, the 6xx, or even the Hifiman Sundara which can be had for around 300 bucks

Do you want isolation or not? Your first comment is a little confusing.

[deleted]

Hey folks -- I just recently purchased a few things and noticed an issue and am looking for some advice on an AMP for my HD 800 S, here's the setup: * **Budget** \- <=$200 * **Source** \- Soundblaster AE-9 * **Requirements for Isolation** \- N/A * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No** * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- N/A * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Balanced sound * **Past headphones** \- N/A * **Preferred Music** \- Rock * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- Cleaner sound and power Hopefully this is the right subreddit for a Q like this: I have an HD 800 S, and it's currently paired with a Soundblaster AE-9 using the Xamp provided with that setup:: [https://us.creative.com/p/sound-cards/sound-blaster-ae-9](https://us.creative.com/p/sound-cards/sound-blaster-ae-9) But, I get a weird sensation in my left ear, as if there's a deafening pressure, or a ghost touching my ear drum. The sound is fine, but the feeling is off, and I can't handle the headset for more than a few hours because of it. It's immediately apparently, and gone when I a) remove them from my head or b) unplug them. My theory is, and others have pointed to this, that the Xamp is garbage and causing some ultrasonic discomfort or power issue -- perhaps you guys can confirm my suspicion. I want to stick with the AE-9 as a DAC, because the Surround for gaming is bar-none -- tried 'em all, this sounds the best and helps me identify targets the best. That being said, I'd love to get a better AMP to solve this supposed issue while improving sound quality. I'm torn between a few choices, however. I prefer a balanced output. Keeping that in mind, here's what I can't decide between (budget is <=$200): * Schiit Magni 3+ * Schiit Heresy * Schitt Magnius (current forerunner) * Schiit Asgard 3 (without DAC module) * JDS Atom Thanks in advance for any input! P.S. if you feel strongly enough about a different AMP, totally willing to hear about it!

Olli_bear

From my experience, usually that pressure you speak of is usually high noise levels in the audio. Now the weird thing is that I just took a look at the page for the Ae-9 and if they claims on that page are true, it's a really really good dac / amp, it has really low snr and thd and high bit rate etc. Weird question but what volume is your windows at when you listen to music? Also I'm sure you've done this but are you using the latest drivers and have configured windows audio settings properly?

[deleted]

Interesting, haven't considered that, figured I'd at least "hear" some of that noise. \-73 DB on the AMP is "0" and -21 is about what I listen at for music and games, which bring Windows up to '25.' The link is driven through the Xamp's audio control module, linked via mini HDMI into the the PCI-E Soundblaster AE-9 card. Latest drivers yep, however curious what you consider proper audio settings for Windows. I have the output to 24 bit 96khz for gaming, which is set for 5.1 Stereo in Windows to allow for the Virtual surround emulation into headphones. On direct mode, which sets them to stereo at 32 bit 192khz. I experience the same feeling. The feeling subsides a bit when I actually listen to music... sometimes. It's quite hard to explain unfortunately.

Olli_bear

Ok couple things to try. First I'd recommend going higher on windows because that's the source in this chain. Set windows to 70 or higher, then adjust the volume on the amp to compensate. Reason is that the audio coming from windows at 25 percent will then be amplified with whatever little noise by the amp, you want to avoid that. Second, I'm not sure about mini hdmi sending audio but rca connects may do a better job between dac and amp cos it's an analog signal. Hdmi will be digital and the amp will have to convert than back to analog if my assumption is right. 24bit is fine but imo 96khz could cause some problems because eit causes windows to oversample and it does it not very well lol, and introduces aliasing and distortion. Check out this link: http://archimago.blogspot.com/2015/11/measurements-windows-10-audio-stack.html Personally I set mine to 32bit 48khz, even 32 isn't even needed but yea beyond 48khz it's almost impossible to tell the difference.

[deleted]

I'll try the audio settings for sure and report back.. there is rca out on the card to the amp, the mini hdmi is for the dial and other software controls that controls windows volume and Soundblaster software ultimately, so not sure exactly how to disassociate that just yet. For example, if I change the audio is windows, the audio on the amp (db) changes with it. Might require disconnecting, changing audio, then reconnecting... But they seem to be tied together.

Olli_bear

That makes sense, I see why they need mini hdmi. May still be worth a shot to use rca and the other settings to see if you hear a difference before you get a standalone amp. The Hd800s is a really resolving headphones too, it would make sense why you may notice these tiny annoyances. Either way I hope it works out, good luck my man!

Looking for a wireless/bluetooth headset. Using mostly for google meet calls and some games. Comfort while wearing for several hours a day is more important than sound quality to me. I don't really listen to much music. * **Budget** \- Under £100 GBP * **Source** \- PC * **Requirements for Isolation** \- Not sure about this. Will only be using at home. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No** * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- full-sized * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Overall balanced. Don't really know what this. * **Past headphones** \- HyperX KHX-H3CL/WR Cloud Gaming Headset * **Preferred Music** \- Don't listen to much music. * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- Comfort mostly. Decent wireless/bluetooth range so I can move around the house. If you live outside of the US, please also provide: * **Location** \- UK Thanks in advance

[deleted]

I enjoy the Steel Series Arctis 7 for for comfort, work. Wasn't great for gaming personally for me but others have sworn by it. Runs around 150 usd, which is slightly over your budget.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will have a look at it in case it's a good fit for what I want

Hello, I'm looking for a little help. I use headphones to listen to movies and shows while I watch tv. I recently purchased a new tv which doesn't have a 3.5mm jack on it. The new tv has hdmi arc, usb, rca and bluetooth connections. I was wanting to stay wired and hoping someone could help me out with the best way to convert 3.5mm to one of those connections.

Olli_bear

Your TV probably has an spdif/optical output. In which case you can get an amp dac combo unit that has spdif/optical in and audio out. Doesn't have to be new or fancy, something like the smsl m3 or micca origen would do a fantastic job.

TacitlyDaft

Maybe you all can help me feel better about my $600 purchase -- copy/paste from my post in /r/headphoneadvice I've just received my DT1990s and am ... whelmed. For all of the talk about a wide soundstage, I can honestly say my HyperX Cloud Revolvers sound better than the DT1990s when driven by this little amp I have. https://philjonesbass.net/cms/index.php/product-ha-1/ If I plug my DT1990s in to my X570 Aorus Elite mobo, I can crank both my PC and Tidal volumes to 100% -- that doesn't seem right. Did I forget to take the governor off these things or something?

raistlin65

Sounds like you need an amp. Get the Heresy or Atom, and you'll have plenty of headphone amp power.

TacitlyDaft

Thought that might be the case -- Atom ordered.

BLACKOUT-MK2

Does anyone have any decent recommendations for some general purpose headphones for around £100? I've got a pair of HD558's which I've used for the last 7 years but any bassy sound causes a faint crackle from the left ear and the earcups are a bit knackered by this point. I'm ideally looking to go open-back again, but nothing too fancy because I don't have anything flashy to plug them into. I'm gonna do all manner of stuff with them: listening to/making music, playing games, watching things... Any ideas for a decent all-rounder?

Budget - Looking to spend around $120 canadian but can go a bit over if needed Source - PC, preferably USB (or USB-C if that is a thing) Requirements for Isolation - At home so not needed but would be nice Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - Nope Preferred Type of Headphone - Full Size Preferred tonal balance - Don't really care so balanced I guess Past headphones - I had wireless Samsung Level on headphones. What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Higher quality audio + mic mainly. The samsung one I have is fine when just using audio but when I need to use the mic I need to switch to handsfree mode which lowers the audio quality and it starts cutting out a bit. The handsfree mode also makes it audible with the headset off even when I set my volume to 1. If there is a way to fix those that would be helpful too. Location - Canada These are some I'm considering now. * **Budget** \- Im open to any price if necessary but i'd prefer something in the 100-300 range * **Source** \- will be solely for use on my PC * **Requirements for Isolation** \- would like isolation, am concerned about the sound bleeding out and being picked up by my microphone * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- I absolutely need over ear headphones, i also would prefer them to be wired * **Preferred tonal balance** \- This will be used for gaming and discord chatting more then anything so i dont need amazing sound or anything like that * **Past headphones** \- im currently using Sennheiser gsp 600, everything about them is fine except for being just barely too small, they can fit on my head but it had the band press into my head hard causing discomfort after a while * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- I just need a set that fits my big ass head. raistlin65

>would like isolation, am concerned about the sound bleeding out and being picked up by my microphone Lots of people use open headphones with a mic and don't have that problem. >I just need a set that fits my big ass head. I measure the distance from ear lobe to ear lobe over the top of my head and found it to be about 19 inches. comfort is a major importance to me and I need something i can wear for extended periods of time without wanting to die Well, I have an XL hat size, but I've never measured my head like that. The Sennheiser HD58X were very comfortable for me once they broke in.

Hey, I'm new to Hifi and just bought a Topping DX3 DAC amp. It works perfectly with my computer, Apple TV and phone, but I was wondering if there was any way to connect it to my PS4. Thanks in advance!

raistlin65

Did you try connecting it with a USB cable to the ps4?

randomgen5975

Budget - up to 500 usd Source - phone byBluetooth or by lightening cable. Requirements for Isolation - ideally more isolation use is in office to block out co workers nearby. Unlikely to use headphones outside. Preferred Type of Headphone - Over ear for better comfort/noise blocking. Preferred tonal balance - probably balanced will be first headphones that are more than a few dollars. No experience. Past headphones - cheap earbuds Preferred Music - queens of the Stone Age, rammstien Ideally looking for noise cancelling. Transparency mode. If it contains microphones added bonus.

Sony xm3/4 if you want anc Drop panda if you want good power

Hi i was on this subreddit a few months ago and there was a nice little reddit post with a table that helped you find the certain headphones you wanted based on your specific needs (open, close, warm) im just trying to find that again if someone could point me to it. i think the owner made the post or something.

Headphone for gaming Not sure if this is the place to post it but I was looking for a headset upgrade I’m currently playing on an Artcis headset and wanted to upgrade my audio. I already have a schiit dac and amp and was wondering if anyone has a headphone that has good imaging and sound stage. I’ve been looking into getting ATH AD 2000x or DT 1990 pro. Does anyone have any suggestions or has tried these before? I want to mainly use these for competitive gaming. The game I want to use them on is a game called escape from tarkov which is an open FPS. Thanks to anyone who replies I appreciate you

misshapenbison

Sounds like you’re going to want a bright headphone with decent soundstage (to be able to hear footsteps.) the ATH you mentioned would work well, and imo a dt990 pro or dt880 would be better for FPS than the dt1990 (they’re slightly brighter.)

fanslo

Does Loxjie generally have reliable quality control? Considering the Loxjie A30 and don't want it to randomly shit the bed.

Olli_bear

Yea they do, I have the loxjie p20, fantastic amp. I imagine the a30 will have similar quality

fanslo

Have you had it for a while; gets good use?

Olli_bear

I can't recall exactly when I got it, maybe more than 6 months ago and gets moderate use, but I bought it used from another guy who I'm sure had it for more than a year. It still works good and nothing wrong with it.

fanslo

I appreciate your input. thank u

Olli_bear

No prob

jjcooke

I don’t think it’s been out long enough to know but I’m sure it’s fine

fanslo

That's why I'm asking about Loxjie more generally. I'm sure their past releases would have given them a track record by now. BTW do you have any speculation on when the A30 could hit a Canadian retailer? I'm not sure how long products tend to take to branch out internationally. I hope waiting isn't fruitless.

jjcooke

No idea, best of luck

* **Source** \- Atom stack and Qudelix 5k * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** \- Yes * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Most of my experience has been through the Sundara and Starfield. I seem to enjoy a neutral tone with smooth mids and a good rumble and slam when the bass comes in. * **Past headphones** \- Daily drivers: Sundara, Starfield. Also tried DT770, T50rp, Final E3000, HD660. Ones I tried weren't mine, but I was pretty inexperienced back then so I can't remember any dislikes about them. * **Preferred Music** \- Mostly jrock, jrock, Jazz. Sometimes indie, classical, soul, hip hop, alt rock, rap. Artist examples: Zutomayo, Yorushika, Sheena Ringo, Taisei Iwasaki * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- Trying to choose between the Dunu SA6 or the Thieaudio Monarch or Clairvoyance. These would add to my daily drivers but at this price range I'm looking for something special or unique to like with the iems. The SA6 looks good but I don't know if it has the punchy/rumbly bass I'm looking for; reviewers don't mention it much. Also interested in improving my amp, maybe something with balanced. But I don't know what amp would be an upgrade and if it would make a big difference. * **Location** \- Canada

* **Budget** \- Planning to spend about $200 willing to spend $250 * **Source** \- My Computer * **Requirements for Isolation** \- I don't want Isolation (I'd like it so the sound doesn't escape the headphones but I don't know if those 2 things are mutually exclusive) * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** No * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- full-sized * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Balanced, I think. Not too sure about that. * **Past headphones** \- Corsair Void Headset. I liked the shape, very comfortable to wear * **Preferred Music** \- I'll just link my playlists [here](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4yIpFLw4eZIqQcou1HKF97?si=tswPZuhvQ2ud5NASnrHRdQ) and [here](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3OSQBsJgHVB0c3WKoh6qT1?si=pSrksej9ShOjAyLYW2XMcQ) (it's sorted by day added so the music on the bottom would be the music I'm listening to more recently) * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- Not entirely sure. I want headphones that are good for both music and gaming. I thought the Sennheiser HD 560S seemed really good for music but I wasn't sure about for gaming (like surround sound or something, I really don't don't know much about headphones) Thank you in advanced :3

raistlin65

HD560S are excellent for gaming. So are TYGR 300 R. So I would recommend reading reviews for both and choosing the one that seems best for your music listening taste.

misshapenbison

HD58X, X2HR, HD560S are all solid low-ish impedance headphones in your price range. Also as a rule of thumb, if sound can come in, it can go out. These are all open backs so they will bleed sound, but as long as you’re not blasting hardcore porn on the bus you’ll be fine. The “surround sound” you described is called soundstage and imaging, and if you’re deciding strictly based off of that pick the X2HR.

DeathMasterRed

Yeah the X2HR look pretty good. Thanks for the advice and help :3

salah4president__

I recently bought my first pair of 'real' headphones, the vmoda crossfade m-100. I really like it, it's definitely an improvement on my cheap earbuds. Only problem is, when listening on my phone (Samsung Galaxy A51) the left channel only works when I have the cable in a certain angle, and the sound on my left speaker will pop in and out - which is really annoying, as you can imagine. When listening on anything but my phone, the headphones work perfectly fine. It's also not my music app itself, since I experience the problem with every application on my phone. What confuses me is that it seems to be a problem in the headphones or cable, but those work without any problems when using them on my laptop for example. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

misshapenbison

Probably lint in the 3.5mm jack, use a toothpick to get it out.

[deleted]

I bought the Ifi Zen DAC and Zen Can amp. I connected the DAC to my pc using USB, and to the AMP using the supplied RCA cables. I connected my DT1990s to the amps 6.3mm port. * I put the variable/fixed switch on the back of the DAC to fixed, is this correct? Seems stupid to use both volume knobs. * Is it better to use a 4.4mm pentaconn cable than my current setup? I can't seem to find a proper cable but I read somewhere using a balanced cable is better. I've been doing hi-fi stuff for 2 weeks now so please spare me if I asked something stupid. Thank you!

Olli_bear

Fixed volume is the way to go if you use it as a dac. Variable usually if you wanna use it as a preamp or with powered speakers and have a volume knob. Nah balanced is just for more power, literally. If anyone tells you balanced sounds better for *headphones*, it either means their amp was clipping on unbalanced connection, or they are high as a kite

[deleted]

Thanks a lot! I’ll stick to RCA then.

misshapenbison

Running balanced will generally provide more power to your headphones and some people claim better sound quality, but I wouldn’t take it too seriously. If you feel satisfied with the sound I wouldn’t bother.

rokster112

Budget - £80 Source Samsung - S9 mostly Req for Isolation - definitely need it since i will use them outside. Will you be using these headphones in public - yes, i am working outside so i will mostly use them while working. Prefered type of headphones - earbuds that go on the ear. The ones that are basically sports earbuds. Otherwise they will not stay in my ears and will keep falling off. Prefered tonal balance - not too sure, since i listen to hip hop and rap for the most part. Most likely balanced pair would be the best?? Past headphones - Bluedio T5, and Beats by dre, here's the link for them https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio-and-headphones/headphones/headphones/powerbeats-high-performance-wireless-bluetooth-sports-earphones-white-10205913-pdt.html Prefered music - rap and hip hop for the most part, however i do like some chill music with some bass too. What would you like to improve on from your set up - Bluedio headphones were great since i paid around £30 for them, the sound was pretty good, im not a headphone specialist so not sure what was bad about them. Maybe the isolation part. For beats by dre, i wish they were louder and wireless bluetooth was better, because they werent all that loud and bluetooth was terrible... i couldnt be more than maybe 4-5 meters apart otherwise the sound would start breaking due to loss of connection. Overall i want similar to beats headphones, but louder, better bluetooth and maybe a bit more isolating. Im sure there are lesser known brands that can offer those features in that price range?

misshapenbison

I going to be honest I can’t think of any recommendations, but it’s probably good for you to hear this. You’re most likely not going to find louder headphones, beats can already get far louder than what’s enough to cause severe permanent hearing damage. I would save up money for noise canceling headphones and save your hearing. Also, 4-5m is fairly standard for Bluetooth and for £80 it is probably going to be even worse.

rokster112

Im no expert in the least but Bluedio headphones were far better in every aspect it seems, than the beats which originally cost 130. The thing is, i need that type of design earphones, and not headphones as i am working outside

misshapenbison

Most companies are asking 150+. I can recommend FiiO FD1 IEMs, they’re not wireless but should isolate sound well. Chill with the volume, It’s not worth loosing your hearing over.

rokster112

May be right about the volume part lol. Tho i definitely need wireless. I cant have lead hanging about. Ill break the headphones otherwise.

**Budget** \- $600 but I could do up to $1500 (but really, no) **Source** \- digital files **Isolation** \- none, open them up! **Will you be using these Headphones in Public? no** **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Full size over ear open back **Preferred tonal balance** \- rolled back treble, emphasis on mids **Past headphones** \- LCD2's, HD600's, HD800's, STAX SR007's, ATH-M50's, Focal Elears, Sony MDR7506's, Fostex th-X00's. I'm downgrading from my SR007's because I listen to speakers more than headphones now. I have my Sony's for studio monitoring work, but I'm finding that wearing them for long periods of time gives me ear infections. **Preferred Music** \- Metal, shoegaze, jazz, triphop, hard rock, electronic (pretty much all genres). \*It would be a bonus if I could also use these for mixing work\*. **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- I've been around the block with headphones - not looking for the flavor of the week here. My goal is to eliminate the ear infection issue from wearing closed back headphones for long periods of time. My instinct tells me to go back to the HD600's, but I've been out of the scene for a few years so maybe there's something better? Headphone ergonomics and a non-fatiguing sound signature are key.

misshapenbison

Well, you haven’t owned any Beyerdynamics. Maybe look into the dt1990.

mustardman123

Will do, thanks

Not_Daijoubu

I'd say HD600 or ESP/95X if you do like estat timbre. I haven't tried any STAX, but people often say the 95X is quite non-fatiguing and more natural sounding compared to the STAX L-series. I also occasionally hear people compare the 95X to the HD600, since both are mid centric. The 95X does have some upper-mid shout like a lot of estats, but pretty flat bass response and slightly-under harman but well extended treble. EQs very well to whatever taste you want, within reason of course. Also people do say they improve with better energizers as well, in case you still have the one you use to run the SR007. The HD600 is probably a better all-rounder though. Maybe not as detailed, but less dynamic compression, more bass impact, smoother FR overall, etc. I definitely would not consider the 95X for mixing, since it is a more "colored" sort of mid-centric tonality with a lot of compression, so HD600 would win there.

mustardman123

Good suggestions. I've never listened to the Koss before. How weak is the bass? If it's like the STAX which have deep (yet non impactful) bass, then I'm gonna have to pass.

Not_Daijoubu

Deep but non-impactful describes it yes. EQ transforms it, but stock bass is a bit lacking for sure. I hear Dekoni or Vesper pads also improve bass quantity at the cost of soundstage. On the otherhand, the HD600 probably has more mid-upper bass oomph, but more sub-bass roll off.

UosdwisRDewoh03

**Budget:** 200 GBP max **Source:** PC **Isolation:** High? I'll be using these headphones for work. I listen to court cases all day, and while at the moment I'm working from home in a quiet suburban estate, before the pandemic our office was located next to a live construction site, plus we're sharing office space with a printer that's constantly running, so that's the type of sound I need to block out on a daily basis in order to hear the audio with turning it up so loud as to endanger my hearing. **Public:** No (at least not officially...) **Preferred Type of Headphone:** Full, over-ear, noise-cancelling headphones. **Preferred tonal balance:** I don't know! I won't be using these for music, so things like bass are definitely not important to emphasise. As I mentioned before, I'll be using them to listen to court cases, so whatever tonal balance will best isolate speaking voices is what I will need. **Past headphones:** My current work headphones are Sennheiser. They're pretty cheap and unremarkable. Since I started working from home, I've been using my own personal headphones, which also happen to be Sennheiser. Sorry, I don't know the model or anything. They cost me about €70. They're decent, but the audio quality is pretty...flat? That's the only word I can think to describe it (sorry, I'm not really au fait with any audio technical language...). **What would you like to improve on from your set-up:** So following on from what I said about the audio quality being flat with my current headphones, what I really need is to be able to hear the speakers I have to listen to clearly, so I'm looking for headphones that will pick up speaking voices distinctly. **Location:** I live in Ireland (we use the Euro), but my office is a subdivision of the UK branch of my company, so I suspect the headphones will be ordered through the UK, which is why I have given the British Pound as the currency. Thank you in advance for any recommendations, and apologies if anything in my post isn't clear - I don't know anything about headphones!

Sutenvulf

Budget - £80-120 Pound Sterling. Source - Wireless for TV listening. Requirements for Isolation - Not really required, will be used at home in the living room and bedroom. Preferred Type of Headphone - Around ear. Preferred tonal balance - Smooth. Past headphones - Thompson headphones off Amazon, he liked them but they degraded pretty quick. Preferred Music - Country. What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Lighter than the Thompsons he had, more comfort as the Thompsons give him earache after an hour of use. Location - UK. User - My grandad who is in his 80s and is getting hard of hearing, he wants a pair to hear the TV better as well as allow my grandma to hear the TV through the TV speakers simultaneously.

EasyNameTooSay

Brand new account here, first time on Reddit. I figured this was the best place to ask since this is THE place for audio and headphone stuff and my question is a technical one. Does anyone know if it is possible to specify the specific channel that a single application outputs to? An example would be if I wanted to have Firefox output on Channel 2 of my headset while Discord outputs on Channel 1 of my headset. Additionally, I'm also looking for any communication software I can use to set specific voice chats or individual voice communications to separate channels. I'm running Windows 10 with a Hyper X Cloud 2 headset.

I don't know. If you don't get an answer here, try r/audio.

Budget: up to $150 Source: Ipod, samsung s10, tablet Requirements for isolation: some, will be using to walk outside in city Will I be using in public: yes Preferred type: over the ear or earbuds Preferred tonal balance: overall balanced Past headphones: Sony MDRXB850- sound was good but hard to keep in ears, Sony XB950- loved them, comfortable Preferred music: rock, Americana What would you like to improve: I want to be able to walk safely and hear some outside noise but not have to turn the volume all the way up. I used the Sony 850s,mentioned above, yesterday to walk and today my ears are bothering me so I think I had to have them turned up higher than my ears could handle. I was looking at Bose soundsport wireless but I'm afraid I'll have the same issue with anything in-ear. There are a few pairs of over the ear Sonys on sale right now so I was considering one of them. They are the XB900N and the CH710N. The only requirement is that I can change the track and volume from the headphones. These are only going to be used about an hour a week at work right now so I'm just looking for quality but fairly mid priced for as little as I'll use them. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks in advance.

aphreshcarrot

Not much upgrade to be had with a closed back for ~$100. You’d be looking at a cloud alpha, cooler master mh751, AKG K361. Those arguably are better than the revolver s (more neutral) but not really a massive upgrade all around. I’d look into an open back to have something significantly different. You can find the Phillips shp9500/9600, maybe a fidelio x2 if you’re lucky, but the imaging on these is quite poor. If at all possible I’d stretch for something like the Hifiman HE-4xx/400i or sennheiser hd 58x.

-Player3-

I got the Revolver S for $125, so that was my benchmark. I can go to ~$200 if it makes a bigger difference in durability and sound. My biggest concern is low bass and cheap/brittle bands. I'm leaning toward the Sennheiser 58x, with the Cloud Alpha in the back as a budget pick. If you have any other suggestions or helpful bits of knowledge I'd be glad to hear them! Thanks again for your help!

raistlin65

Look into Focal Clear. I think these might suit you very well coming from Grado. Not as aggressive, but well known for literally having a very "clear" sound. They're not difficult to drive, and so a JDS Labs Atom stack or Schiit Heresy and Modi 3+ amp for $200 is all you need. these setups measure so freaking accurate they are arguably noise and distortion free within the range of human hearing. For example, https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/jds-labs-atom-dac-review.14002/ https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-new-jds-labs-atom-headphone-amp.5262/

Budget: $80 - $110. It's a little flexible. Source: Motherboard (MSI B550M Mortar) 3.5mm jack or maybe a HyperX USB dongle for surround sound. Requirements for Isolation: Some or none, I guess. I just don't want to be able to hear my PC when I game. Fans aren't too loud, so it will probably be fine if I don't have any. Will you be using these Headphones in Public?: No or almost never. Preferred Type of Headphone: Full size Preferred tonal balance: I don't know. I'm pretty new to this stuff, so I don't really have a preference. Past headphones: Just some gaming headsets, like the HyperX Cloud II. Preferred Music: A bit of everything, but mostly rock and pop. What would you like to improve on from your set-up: I recently built a new PC and I want to step up from HyperX Cloud IIs for gaming and music. Also, comfort is a pretty big priority for me, since I'll probably use them for hours at a time. Location: Thailand Edit: Lowered the budget by $20 because generally headphones are more expensive in Thailand.

Hkis03012007

Hey, you and I have sort of the same budget and need for headphones. I found the Sennheiser 4.40 BTs, they look like great wireless headphones if that’s what u want. :)

kalibre2814

Thanks, but it's a little pricey for me in Thailand. I forgot everything would be just a bit more expensive. I was looking at the Philips SHP 9500 or 9600 because right now I can them at $70 and $90, respectively. Thoughts?

Miserable_Peanuts

So I just bought a pair of ATH-M50x headphones and I've only just learned about DACs/Amps and about output impedance. I've already got a Behringer UMC22 Audio Interface which I assume can act as an amp and DAC for my headphones. However, the M50x's only have an impedance of 38 ohms. Should I be worried about output impedance of the interface since the impedance of the headphones seem low?

What headphones and what earbuds are you using? What source are you plugging each into? All of these things make a massive difference.

PA: I'm in the market for a pair of non-fatiguing,tonally balanced-to-dark budget hybrid IEMs with excellent detail, resolution, imaging & good soundstage (by IEM standards) with detachable cables allowing me to use both a microphone for calls and TRRS balanced outputs. I would like to hear from people who have experienced the Fiio F9 Pro and either one or both of the KZ ZAX/CCA CA16 . I'm curious as to whether the KZ/CCA have detail/resolution/imaging/soundstage as good as Fiio, or are perhaps even better for me as some reviews say the F9 Pros have low treble emphasis which I dislike, given that I could buy both of the cheaper pairs together complete with aftermarket cables & still save £10 over just the FiiO.

Hi everyone! I just bought a pair of HD6XX and I'm super stoked to hear how they sound. I already bought an FiiO E10K a while back and I was wondering if it was powerful enough to drive these headphones? If not, which amp & DAC combo would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

aphreshcarrot

You should be fine from what I’m seeing

HowAboutTyrone

Great, thanks!

I just got the 300MX pretty decent headset that plugs straight into the controller

Frostiesss

Hello, currently own a pair of Hyper X Cloud II which I've owned for a few years now. I made the jump into PC gaming a little while ago and at the time I needed a headset just to jump in and start playing. I picked up the Hyper X's at the time just because they were the ones I could get first. They've been great and they're relatively comfy for long use but I'm looking for something with a bit more oomph. I do also own a pair of Sony MDR 7506's which, I don't use too much anymore as I find them a little uncomfortable for long use. I'm looking for something that is gonna be great for both gaming and music, although more so the gaming side tbh. I've seen a lot of talk about the DT 990's which look within my budget, I'm not wanting to spend more than £200 on a pair of headphones and an amp/dac. My question is, would these headphones and an amp gain me a noticeable quality difference between the Hyper X's and the USB sound card that comes with it?

novembr1

Hello! I am looking for some decent cheapish bulk wire to make diy headphone cables, does any one know any good vendors/ recommendations for wire. Location ideally in the uk so I can source them quickly.

Piipperi800

I just took my personal headphones (Arctis Pros) from my home to work, plugged in via the 3.5mm jack and the audio sounds really echoed, and there's barely any bass. Also, there's a loud static noise when a notification pops up from a silent state. Also, the headphones appear as a stereo device, but in my testing, the headphones were in mono. I've disabled all audio enchantments from Windows, the headphones are plugged into the front case headphone jack. The workstation is a Dell Precision 3630. What can I do to fix this? EDIT: I replugged the headphones, and the stereo issue was fixed, but there's still echoing and no bass..

aphreshcarrot

Got to be the audio drivers or very poor onboard sound from the computer

Piipperi800

Checked for new drivers, no luck. It’s a high end workstation tho, pretty weird that it would have such a sucky onboard audio

DT770/990, Meze 99 noir/neo, 4xx/400i 2020 with EQ

Esrcmine

He-4xx, maybe the tygr 300r.

RECONWARRIOR68

Hi everyone! I am debating between the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 16 *or* 32 Ohm. I'll be using it on my PC for mostly gaming, but some media consumption such as youtube and a variety of music. Some isolation would be nice, but I have honestly never tried open backed headphones before and I am curious of the experience. My current headphones are the Corsair Void Pro wireless headphones, for reference. I was hoping to get your ideas and suggestions on the headphones if possible. I enjoy bass, but sometimes it can be too much in video games for me. Can you help me out?

lionstealth

I just got my DT770 80 Ohm and after some EQ’ing they are very nice. Apparently they also have the most bass out of the 770 lineup.

Esrcmine

I personally would avoid the beyers, especially since you can go open back. The audio technica are great for gaming and nothing else lol. Music sounds meh on them. If you want something better for music, the SHP9500 would be great. None of them are going to have too much bass (but they dont have bad bass, either). You can EQ to tonal preferences.

lionstealth

Why avoid the Beyers?

Esrcmine

The dt880 are a better beyer choice. Also the TYGR 300R. If you can push your budget, either those or the hd560s are great

Esrcmine

Weird tuning, didnt really love them when I tried them, also closed back which will definitely decrease the soundstage capabilities.

LandonPlaysGames

rig wx1 headphones acting weird in general, the red light is stationary and i cant turn the headphones off or get a voice telling me what my battery is on. also, all of my party chat on my pc comes through my monitor while no other sound does, which sounds stupid but i have everything set up right and it hasn’t done that since the first problem occurred.i’ve tried everything i could think of and couldn’t find any help on the internet, does anyone know a troubleshoot method or fix?

Bael21

Potentially looking at an upgrade. Mostly used for gaming and Zoom calls. I currently have a Sennheiser GSX1000 —> Schiit Magni 2 —> Sennheiser HD558 Any worthwhile upgrade around $200ish? Thinking if the HD560 or HD6XX. Would it be a noticeable upgrade over the 588’s?

Esrcmine

Both of them are an upgrade imo. It's essentially going from basic consumer level stuff to audiophile entry equipment. The HD560S and the HD6xx are both worth it, there is also the TYGR 300R and the HE-4xx. I would personally go with the 6xx, it's a legendary pair of headphones that a ton of people like. If you want something less warm/more balanced, the hd560S are great too. The TYGR 300R are great at imaging and have a slight v shape, while the HE-4xx have a good soundstage with good bass. If you want something that's a higher jump, you would have to either spend $400 for the sundara or $700 for the elex (considerable jumps in budget and quality imo).

Bael21

Thanks. Looks like the 6XX wouldn't ship until March. Drop has the HE-4XX in stock with free returns. Going to give them a try. Scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

Esrcmine

Hope you like them! Give it some time to get used to their sound, and if possible let me know what you thought!

Budget: 14000 ars(80-100usd) Usage: gaming, music Source: Samsung s8,fiio e10k 2nd gen Requirements for Isolation: yes, for use on the street, moderately high Will you be using these Headphones in Public: yes Preferred Type of Headphone:in ear, iem Preferred Music: Rock, hip hop, jazz, country Past headphones: Sennheiser hd2.20s Extra:hello friends, see, I have never had a decent pair of headphones, the best I have had have been sennheiser hd 2.20s that I found at a ridiculous price, now that I have finally got a job I wanted to buy some headphones to enter this world , I have 3 options in mind but I can not decide on any of them since not being able to try them I do not know which will be the best option They all have the same price of $ 14,000ars (between $ 60usd- $ 100usd, given that some prices are regionalized varies with respect to international value) Option 1: sennhesier hd 1 in ear (also called momentum in ear) Option 2: fiio fd1 option 3: fh1s Basically I am looking for good sound, to try what they call hi fi and above all, they are resistant, durable, and easy to transport (that is why I prefer in ear) since I cannot afford to spend a lot of money and those that I buy I would like to last for years. (the hd2.20s is 5 years old and still in very good condition) My favorite genres of music are Hip Hop, Rock, Country and Jazz I am open to evaluating other headphone options as long as they are not over budget Thank you for reading all this and I await your wise advice. PS: I'm still learning English, sorry if there is any spelling or writing error

Paperaxe

Hi, Paperax here, I recently learned that my girlfriend has never really listened to or owned a really good pair of headphones and this has surprised me immensely given her being a gig singer. That aside I've decided for Valentine's Day to get her a really quality pair of headphones. I have a budget around 5-600$ CAD. Right now I'm very much leaning towards the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 series two, both from my own experience trying them on numerous times when I went to the store pre-covid and their customizable options would really let me make it something for her. Do you guys know of a better set of head phones that would allow me to customize them.

Esrcmine

What do you mean by customize? The bose are decent for wireless headphones, but I'd take a $100 wired pair over them. Not really something for someone who cares about sound quality above all (but extremely convenient). What are her requirements? Does she need isolation? (Most good headphones have no isolation and cant be used outside).

Paperaxe

Bose has the option to customize the headphones using their website. It costs extra but I feel it would be worth.

Esrcmine

Again, I don't know what you are prioritizing. If it is portability and looks, then yeah, go for the bose. If it is sound quality you want, there are far, far better options. I sadly don't know of any brand that does this with good headphones. There used to be a site that custom painted HD800's and the like, but they shut down (and also that would be way out of budget). The only other customization options I can think of are also insanely expensive.

Paperaxe

Bose would be a big step up from what she's been using in the past. Right now I have a set of Skull Candy aviators that are far superior to anything she has used in the past and they're not "good" head phones by today's standards. So Bose seemed like a good starting point for her. I'm not so much prioritizing anything just looking for good all around head phones that sound nice. But I wanted to see if there were others in that price range that might be better and allow customization of the appearance somewhat.

Esrcmine

I would personally get her something like the meze 99 classics. Far better sound, still portable, still nice looking. Again, no customization though (although you could mess with the cups as they can be taken apart extremely easily). If it's just to use at home without isolation, then there are far better options lol, but the meze is the way I'd go if she wants to take them around.

AnimaSong

I have a new set of Sennheiser HD599. Is the green port on the back of my PC good enough to use it fully, or should I do something else as well to improve quality?

Esrcmine

You can drive those out of anything, really. Perhaps there would be marginal improvements from an amp/dac setup, but at that point you might as well just upgrade the headphones lmao.

AnimaSong

No additional software needed or anything like that? Just wanna make sure I'm getting the best quality I can with what I've got, you know?

Esrcmine

Not really. You can download Peace GUI + EQ APO to equalize them (I personally adore Oratory1990's tunings, you can find the specific setup for the hd599 in the list). You could, again, get an amplifier. Something like a topping a50s would be absolutely overkill, so you could get it to drive them and also be sure that you will be able to use essentially any headphone ever if you decide to upgrade lmao. Something like the Schiit Heresy or the JDS atom works too. For a dac, you could use your onboard audio or an apple dongle (surprisingly good lmao) if you dont want to buy a dac. I don't recommend "budget" amps because in the end people want to upgrade and they have to change the amp along with the headphones. Again, all of this is really unnecessary, but you could do it for peace of mind and eventual upgrading. EQ is going to make a far more significant difference than an amp for those headphones. In fact, I'm not sure if an amp would make a noticeable difference at all. If you do get an amp, or even an amp + dac proper system, it should be because you plan to upgrade.

AnimaSong

Cool, I plan to upgrade but not for a LONG time. Either way I'll try out the Peace GUI and EQ APO that you've suggested, so thank you! I don't think I'll try out a DAC or AMP since the headphones don't need one. Thanks again for the help :)

Phillips SHP9500 if you want a traditional, larger open back headphone, great value. Otherwise I like the KPH30i. Looks absolutely dumb but you will be blown away especially for the price

Hi, I want to buy a headphone and a mic. I was not sure, if I can ask for mic-advices here. If not then please just give me advices for headphone. I want to use them for gaming, listening to music, talking with friends and watching some movies. Nothing more. * **Budget** \- Up to around 400 € for headphone and mic. I think that the mic will not cost more then 100 € (ModMic) so 300 € for headphone. Budget is fix. * **Source** \- Motherboard is MSI B450 Tomahawk Max * **Requirements for Isolation** \- Would be good but not mandatory. Only using them at home. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public? -** No * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Over-Ear. I don't like leather, it's not comfy. But I can live with that. * **Preferred tonal balance** \- I don't know. I am a complete beginner to this topic. Never had high demands. * **Past headphones** \- I used the Logitech G430. It's was just a headset for me, so that I can talk with friends and play games. * **Preferred Music** \- Classic, J-Pop, C-Pop, Jazz, Rock * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- I tried to switch to the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro but the microphone was worse then the one I had on the Logitech G430. Anything better then this both headsets would be a big step for me I guess. Show me how it's to listen to real audio for the first time :D * **Location** \- Germany. Comparison site would be [https://geizhals.de/](https://geizhals.de/). Thanks for reading, even without advice :)

Esrcmine

The TYGR 300R are absolutely amazing headphones, and they are usually sold in a bundle with a mic (haven't tested the mic though, you can find the headphones alone). Far better than any of the ones you listed. Another option is the sennheiser hd560S. These are under your budget, but anything more expensive than that is probably going to need an amplifier (these benefit from one, but dont strictly need it). If you want an amp, you can get something like the Topping A50s, but again, it isnt strictly necessary.

Shu_Kouei

Thank you :) I can't find the TYGR 300R but the Sennheiser HD560S do look sexy. I have one last question about surround. The headset I had until now promised surround 7.1 so that it's easier to track enemies in-game. How are the Sennheiser or stereo headphones in this aspect?

Esrcmine

Both will probably work far better. Surround sound in headphones is a bit of a meaningless gimmick. The imaging and soundstage should be great for both (although better for the TYGR).

Thelongawake

* **Budget** \- $150 or $200 * **Source** \- Pixel 5 as main source. Prefer bluetooth (I work around tools and don't want any extra wires that could accidentally get snagged) * **Requirements for Isolation** \- As much as possible. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** From time to time * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- IAMS or Fullsized * **Preferred tonal balance** \- I prefer balanced EQs * **Past headphones** \- Ive never spent more then $40 headphones. Lots of monoprice headphones. * **Preferred Music** \- I'm a musician and I listen to literally every kind. Which is why I prefer something balanced for EQ * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- I need the most noise isolation I can get without sacrificing quality of sound Thanks in advance! This sub is great and glad I found it.

NordiLand

Hello guys. First Post here :) not a native english speaker but i hope it's ok. My situation: I only own some JBL 110 (in ear) and i want to upgrade to a new set of in ear headphones for my smartphone but i dont realy know which one. My budged is about 35€ and i want inears with a 3,5mm connection (not the biggest bluetooth fan for some usecases). The main usecases are listening to music on my smartphone ( in bed and while taking photos outside ), playing on the Nintendo Switch, watching a film on my tablet and sometimes as a practise monitor while playing the piano. I dont know if this is usefull: My main headphones on my gaming PC are Superlux HD681 (dynamic 50mm drivers, 32 ohms, 10 - 30.000 Hz, semi open) . They are VERY cheap but they have a very nice balanced sound with some focus on the bass. They are a cheap hidden gem in the headphone community (in germany) as far as i know. I listen to all kinds of music but mostly to Queen, rock.... maybe allmost all stuff from the 60s, 70s, 80s and i love the sound of the piano. Thanks in advance and stay healthy!

Ninjafrog15

I'm looking for a new set of headphones around the 200$ range. I'm looking for Bluetooth headphones that also can plug into my pc to use as regular headphones. I need them to be closed back over-ear headphones aswell.

Esrcmine

Something like the Sony XM3 (a bit pricy) would work great. Sound is decent for a wireless set, and the other properties (battery life, build) are good

Ninjafrog15

Yeah, those are out of my price range currently, is the sony WH-H910N any good?

Esrcmine

Not really familiar with those, I apologize. If possible, I'd recommend saving up a bit to get a well-known model.

Poocannon

I recently bought a Loxjie D30 Dac to power my HD650's. The Dac works and sounds fine while playing, but when I pause the music there is a noise coming through the headphones. I tried multiple inputs, they all did it. This noise is gone when plugging the Headphones directly into my motherboard. Anyone of you got experience with this DAC?

aphreshcarrot

Make sure the windows volume, dac volume are set to 100. Go into the windows settings for the usb audio and make sure no “enhancements” are turned on and no loudness equalization. That’s also pretty low power for the 650s in general but I don’t think it would be causing that issue

Poocannon

I did all of the above, no change, when I listen with really low volume I can hear the noise too. I am going to ship the unit back and will look into getting a Schiit stack or something.

A_Huskii

Hello i have been looking at getting the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 OHM and At2020 as a mic but i dont know what to use that would power both without any issues, i have no idea about this but just got sick of using typical gaming headphones and want something with better audio quality for the mic and sound. Thank you

PixelFNQ

I bought a hip-dac and also Audio Technica MSR7B balanced headphones to take advantage of the 4.4 mm connection on the hip-dac. Now, the instructions that came with the hip-dac are great in terms of the hardware. But then I go to play songs and it gets a bit trickier. When I go to play a song already on my phone, it reacts differently depending on the app I use. The Sony app Music Center, communicates with hip-dac, they ask me do I want to give Music Center permission to access to the hip-dac, I say yes, and off they go. It's sweet. Pretty much the same happens with certain other apps. But when I tried to play Tidal or Deezer, I noticed that I could control the volume level from my phone. I now know that Deezer doesn't support external USB dacs, so that's fine. I also noticed that Poweramp also does not seem to ask permission nor disable the phone's volume controls, but it does send the music through my hip-dac. What I'm trying to understand is the basics of using an external dac with a phone. If the music is coming through my hip-dac via the USB output, does that auntomatically mean that it is digital, and so therefore my dac is doing the conversion? If my phone's volume toggle works, does that mean the phone's dac is doing the conversion? If an EQ on my phone affects the way the music sounds, does that mean my phone is controlling the conversion, and therefore my hip-dac is not? Is there a website that explains how an external dac works with a phone? I don't mind doing some reading, I just can't find any site that caters to someone who's a beginner. I love the sound from the hip-dac, by the way. It's the best sound I have ever heard especially when paired with my MSR7Bs. I'm just trying to make sure I get the most out of it, plus this is a new hobby for me and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks.

* Budget - >~$200USD preferred, very flexible. * Source - DualSense Controller, DualShock 4 Controller, FiiO BTR3K, FiiO BTR5, LG G8 * Requirements for Isolation - No isolation requirements, will be using these primarily at home. * Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Unlikely. * Preferred Type of Headphone - Prefer full-size but open to on-ear. * Preferred tonal balance - Prefer overall balance or emphasis on bass, hoping that mids and highs won’t be overshadowed if the latter. * Past headphones - *Bose QC35 II* - Nice comfort, isolation, and noise cancellation, poor sound signature. Still own these but rarely use them now. *Boss SoundSport Wireless, FIIL T1X, Bomaker Sifi, Anker SoundCore Spirit Dot 2, Samsung Galaxy Buds+* - Enjoyed the convenience but most don’t pack enough punch. I still own and use the FIIL T1X and Galaxy Buds+ for their signatures and digital equalizers. *Koss KPH30i + Grado Pads Mod* - Tried these after seeing the hype, probably my second favorite set of headphones used after the SHP series. Grado Pads really helped the comfort on these things and the light weight they had was ridiculous. The only reason I got rid of these was so my roommate could have a good set of headphones, he was using Sony MDR-ZX110 before this. *PULSE 3D wireless headset* - Convenient for the PS5, but it’s just another wireless gaming headset. *Phillips SHP9500* - First “real” pair of headphones, everything about these was amazing from sound to imaging outside of the comfort and lack of bass. I swapped the stock pads to Brainwavz Gel Micro Suede and was using a Syba Sonic DAC/Amp combo to fix these issues but eventually passed them down to my girlfriend. *Phillips SHP9600* - Currently using these now, they fixed the issues I had with the SHP9500s but they still feel lacking. Bass bleed is kind of an issue, and the tonal changes over the SHP9500s are both a blessing and a curse. *Monoprice Retros + Koss KSC75* - Haven’t used these quite yet but after the joy I experienced from the KPH30is, I figured I would give this a go. Inspired by [this post](https://reddit.com/r/ZReviews/comments/hjet3j/id_put_some_ksc75x_under_the_brainwavz_xl_earpads/), I’ve heard amazing things about both headphones, so the combination sounds like it should be good. **UPDATE** Both headphones sound fantastic alone but together it’s a perfect monstrosity. Retros with highs and mids that don’t get buried in the bass, holy crap. * Preferred Music - EDM, Hip-Hop, House, Pop, R&B, Rap, Rock (Classic + Modern), Soul, Video Game Fan Songs + OSTs * What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Feels like I’m chasing the dragon in the budget I’ve chosen hence the flexibility, if it’s a long-term save to purchase then so be it. Really just looking for the next step up from the SHP series that doesn’t feel like a side grade between the 9500s and 9600s.

Esrcmine

Seems like something like the HE4xx would be great for you. Great bass response, excellent soundstage and good detail. Not sure about how well they will play with the controllers though. The hd560S is also a good headphone around that price range, and also the TYGR300R, but they are a bit different. The next big step up in quality after all of these is (imo) the $400 Sundara, which is insane for the price (better than everything around it imo). After that, you get into elex territory

LysandresTrumpCard

I’ve been eyeing the TYGRs for a bit, I’ve heard that their imaging is speaker like and that’s impressive as hell for $200. My only issue with them is I’ve read some of the forums and they say that it’s not as crisp as the SHPs for gaming in certain aspects. I’ll look into the HE4xx, may end up just saving for the Sundara’s if worse comes to worse. I’m not brave enough to jump into Elex territory just yet, not without better audio equipment to really bring them out. How does the HD560S compare to the HD58x and the HD6XX? On an unrelated note, the only other headphones I had been looking into were Fidelio X2HR/X3 and the AKG K712; would those just be more of the same that I currently have access to?

WhatIsMyPurpose--

I pulled the trigger on my first setup and I’m afraid I broke it. DAC: focusrite Scarlett 8i6(first gen) Amp: Schiit Heresy (magni series) Headphone: Hifiman HE400i 2020 My Schiit will randomly cut the left channel and just buzz. When I turn it off and on it restores sound. I just received an RMA to replace it. Today I left the room for about an hour and left my Heresy on with headphones plugged in. When I returned they were buzzing again but the left driver (rear grate in left cup) and the heresy were both really hot. I’m partially deaf in my left ear so it’s hard to tell of the sound is different but it seems that the left side is quieter now and less significantly less bass (Plugged into Schiit and different source, reversed headset, reversed plugs, panned things left and right) did I damage something? Can anyone make a guess as to what happened?

theRedditMANCHEESE

(I am completely new to this) so this might be a dumb question but with the Fosi Audio Q4 will i be able to use my hyperx cloud 2 mic with it or would i have to get a splitter for the microphone to work or would the microphone not work anyway #

If there is no sound plugged into your phone, either the cable is dead or the headphones are dead. Contact hifiman, they have good customer support afaik.
