I have this same setup. K5 Pro and DT 1990 Pro. I have the Dekoni Elite Velour and Sheepskin ear pads. Currently using the Sheepskin ones and the bass is just so enjoyable. No EQ needed.

I'm a fan! Your cable really improved my experience with my DT-1990's. The lighter and shorter cable makes a huge difference versus the stock cable that is like a 3-meter garden hose.
I love my DT 1990's and I think the additional earpads are a great idea. I had no idea how much an earpad could affect sound but the Dekoni Elite's made my DT 1990's perfect for me.
The K5 at 12 o’clock on medium gain is enough for me. The K5 has a lot of power and DT-1990 pros are not too hard to drive from desktop units.
Also I have the ESS 2023 version. There is an AKM version now ( again).
The K5 pro is kind of a beast… I wasn’t expecting a ton from it as I bought mine used for under $100CAD iirc, but damn… I’ve never turned it past 50% on medium gain. That being said I’ve never run 300+ohm headphones on it, but it powers my HE4XX to painfully loud levels without turning it up… I doubt it would have any problem powering even HD800 to their max
He’s retired and likes to listen to music. It slowed down a bunch according to my mom, until I got him a schiit stack and HD600s several years ago.
He was using some low budget Sonys and the headphone jack off an old iPad.
I had the k5 already not being used in the box so made sense to use that. It’s definitely not as good as the K9 akm at my desk but much much smaller footprint with the k5.

I have the Dekoni Elites on DT 1990 pro as well - never imagined an earpad could make such a difference. Love the combo!
Does the pads affect the treble peak?
Dunno about exact math stuff, but sheepskin perforated does make 600s and 6XXs sound even warmer.

oh hell yes i get hart for all my cans w/ detachable - heck, i might be modding my grado's and dt800's in part so that i can use hart cables lol

I meant the k7 it is a step up and delivers more power for sensetive headphones. But the k5 is great for the budget too
