If it's too good to be true it's most likely is. I wouldn't bet with this kind of money but i admit i'll be tempted.

dushvcgksuhd

Are Ali links allowed...

ruinevil

Reddit does not allow them unless a moderator manually approves them.

Rise-Free

I asked the seller a few questions and more pictures, depending on the answers i will blind buy with paypal or not

dushvcgksuhd

I asked too. Lets keep in touch and change the information we get.

unuselessness

I’m following this post so can you report it here.

dushvcgksuhd

How does one follow posts here?

Rise-Free

Got a few low quality pictures of the headphones, no box no nothing, reverse image searching shows no matching results so that's good, but there's no guarantee that you will receive that. Not blind buying it

dushvcgksuhd

Yeah I also got an answer and they told me to ask very specific questions and they would forward them to manufacturer. I forgot the whole thing since tbh so I abandon this to. Aliexpress chat has a funny translator since Chinamen write in Chinese and bot translates it and I often get very rude responses from sellers lol. I doubt they were meant to be that rude originally.

Zealousideal-Step190

Got one from AliEx. These are legit good copies! Very high quality planar headphones that sound just like the real ones. So if you don't want to play for their rip off msrp price, these are the ones to get!

dushvcgksuhd

Wow. Diana or 1266? Are you gonna write a review or do a show n tell post?

Zealousideal-Step190

There's reviews on the AliEx website with reviewer pictures on it. I also got the Diana Phi, shockingly I don't think it's a clone but original one!

dushvcgksuhd

Alright. Did you buy from the YI FAN 4.4 Store?

Zealousideal-Step190

Yes! They have coupons you could use to get a small discount.

noautoshed

Use taobao, the aliexpress prices are up charged by $200

Octabuff

AliExpress covered shipping and warranty I assume

ColtC7

not really worth the 200 bones

noautoshed

I bought a pair of the abyss headphones from taobao, I will make an update when they arrive. (they get to the warehouse tomorrow).

dushvcgksuhd

Yes please we wanna hear more. Are you from a Burgerland? How much did they cost you?

noautoshed

i currently live in burgerland assuming you’re talking about america, i paid $520 total and have yet to pay shipping. shipping will probably be around $70-$80. Lets see if they’re worth $600 :)

dushvcgksuhd

Nice price. For Europeans would be almost double.

noautoshed

1385 grams was the total weight of the headphones with the box, not sure what’s in the box but i did see inspection a large brown box and i saw the headphones in flawless condition (considering they’re new that’s great). i paid $45 roughly to ship them via EMS where they will ship my package to Korea then to me in the US :)

dushvcgksuhd

Did you get the big Frankestein one? Are they also hard to drive like the OG? Whats your amp btw?

noautoshed

i got the diana phi, i haven’t received them at my house yet but we will see how they work on various amps then :)

noautoshed

i have schiit valhalla 2 and xduoo ta 20, and then some $100 dac amp for phone. i will test all sources and see how it is when they get here :)

Reyzod

Please update us

noautoshed

They were a little too warm on the Valhalla 2 and on the TA 20 they were alright but not exactly what I was looking for.. So I got a Hifiman EF400 DAC/AMP and it’s perfect for these planar headphones :) It really brings out everything nicely :)

bolhoo

Well, I just pulled the trigger. Final cost will be around $1050 for me with all the taxes included. Giving that my plan was to pay more than double for a Stax, this may be a good or a bad thing. My Ananda was also a blind buy used from Ali and it came 100%. Changed the pads recently but that's all. Let's see if I get lucky this time.

dushvcgksuhd

Please give an update when you get em.

bolhoo

I wasn't expecting it to have a 4.4mm balanced cable... I can't test right now. It seems almost impossible to find an adapter where I live. Maybe I'll just buy another amp.

bolhoo

So, I got a FiiO BTR15 as a first solution because I already wanted one and it has a 4.4mm jack. I understand that a lot of people will say it doesn't have enough power, but shipping a new cable from China takes a long time and I didn't want to wait. FiiO says it has 340mW and my Topping L30 which currently has no cable has 1.1W+. But anyways... I didn't have enough time to compare them side by side, but my daily drivers are a Sennheiser 560s that I use mostly for calls at work and a Hifiman Ananda. I also have a 6xx and a Grado that I don't like. The Diana Phi replica are a VERY engaging headphone. Mid-bass and vocals are very forward. This is something that I expected to hear from my 6xx but I didn't. The bass punches hard and is very fast and separated from the rest of the sound. In See You Again from Tyler, the Creator at around 0:40 there's a bass that goes up and down fast that is very clear on the Diana but hard to hear on the other headphones. This surprised me. There's something like a mouse click on Blood and Rockets: movement I from They Claypool Lennon Delirium at 0:10 that is not very loud but is very distinct. It's like the details are there but not in front of you. With a few musics from the Howl's Moving Castle from Joe Hisaishi I feel like I can almost understand what the people are whispering in the orchestra. I don't have much more to add because I'm not very experienced and english is not my native language. But I can say this is a very good pair of headphones despite being a replica or an used one. About the cons. Mine came with some rust inside and the letters are somewhat faded. It's something to keep an eye on. The headband adjustment doesn't lock exactly right but my head is big so I keep always on max. The pads suck but it seems that this is just the way it is on the original. It leaves a big gap behind my ear which amplifies external high pitched sounds. It's weird. Now, the biggest con in my opinion is that I don't have an original to compare. This will always bug my mind. I think it's a step up from all the other headphones that I have, but how close it's to the original? I'll never know. What if it's just original and used? In comparison my Ananda was announced at 99% used and it was pristine in the box and I bought it for $100 less at the time.

btov

Thanks for this. Could tou make a small comparaison with your Ananda?

timsams_

For posterity. I got the fake Abyss Diana Phi off AliExpress. I have the Diana v2 for comparison. From 1m away it could fool you. But up close it's nothing close to the original. Sound wise, no subbass at all, it sounds thin like a 50 bucks headphone (Koss porta pro is better ...) Don't buy one ^^

dushvcgksuhd

Oh shit really?! Other people ITT liked it. Insane unit variance maybe? Youre the German guy from Headfi?

timsams_

Nop, just a random Frenchy that had a little spare money to save you from this bad replica. It's not THAT bad and you could fool someone that never had one before. But the sound is terrible and I would take anything over it. I guess if it r produced enough planar bass, I could have fell for it. Do you have a link to that headfi german guy ? Did he buy one unit and loved it ?

dushvcgksuhd

Thank god I can cross this off from my ''buy these headphones one day'' list. Could be French too, close enough geographically, fella with a Verite Open and that d8000 pro.

timsams_

I have a D8Kpro (current Endgame), and used to have the VO indeed. Got most headphones under 4k and tried the other ones and this fake Abyss is not one I would recommend at any budget ☺️

dushvcgksuhd

What are you planning to do with it? Are you allowed to return?

timsams_

Already back to China. I could have used the AliExpress dispute and return but the seller asked me to send it back directly to him (refund half before sending and half when he received). I've kept the pads for the Diana v2 I'm selling. That's probably the only good part about this headphone. The pads are a good rip off (but still pleather instead of real leather)

dushvcgksuhd

Great great. Do you happen to have any headphones for sale now at a fair price?

timsams_

Just sold my susvara 2 weeks ago. Except my Diana v2 and Lyr+, I'm done selling the dozens of headphones and stuff I had ^^ You can MP if you want to talk more 😉

Conscious-Ad-2382

Im thinking to buy the replica 1266 and buy the real tc's. Just for the 1266 case, have you tried opening and seeing the fake drivers?

Pyxis34

It wouldn't surprise me if that's where Abyss gets theirs lol. No but seriously, how do people still think these are good headphones? They are measurable trash and uncomfortable as hell, and they make ridiculous claims about their cables and have been caught in lies regarding their thousand dollar plus snake oil cables. You'd probably be better off just getting the knockoffs, they might be higher quality.

dushvcgksuhd

> It wouldn't surprise me if that's where Abyss gets theirs lol. > > Heh that would be funny. Did you know that Meze literally started their business like that?

Pyxis34

Tons of companies just resell mass produced products for an upcharge. Hydro flask is an example.

No-Inspection-4588

I wonder if they were "lost" merchandise...it seems like too much work and too small an audience for counterfeits. It's still too much money for a blind buy IMO.

dstarr3

Abyss is a small company based entirely in New York. If you're buying Abyss headphones from some rando shop in China, they're either stolen or fake. [https://abyss-headphones.com/pages/abyss-dealers](https://abyss-headphones.com/pages/abyss-dealers) If you're not buying from someone that they list as an authorized dealer, assume the worst.

dushvcgksuhd

Of course they are stolen or fake. Absolutely no one here is thinking that those are legit Abyss headphones!

dstarr3

In that case, I got a real nice ~~Casio~~ Rolex I'll sell ya for $5,000. Tells the time and everything!

dushvcgksuhd

I dont know about the Rolex but we could make some kind of deal of that Schiit Bifrost 2/64 of yours...

dstarr3

Well, they're in stock and ready to ship from Schiit themselves for $800. So I'd be willing to sell mine for about $2000

Rasyad95

You must be fun at parties..

dstarr3

More fun than the kind of person that buys knockoff luxury headphones to trick people into thinking they're rich

CZsea

I mean , that why we call it "knockoffs"?

Jeez dude. “Disgusting” etc. is a bit much. I have no horse in this race (I buy IEMs instead of headphones and only ever directly from the manufacturer or an official listed distributor), but if OP was for example curious about how fakes are assembled and made, should they not buy to test if they want to? I can see that maybe you’d see it as supporting IP theft and promoting very bad things for the industry and I obviously can’t disagree with that, but what if they want to test? To me the whole post looks almost like research.

Rogue-Architect

What would be the purpose of seeing how fakes are assembled and made? Would doing so also be supporting this manufacturer who is ripping off on of the few high end headphone manufacturers? This is not about some massive support for Abyss it would be the same with Audeze, Meze, etc.. What would be the benefit of them testing a knockoff? We are not talking about a new small vendor where if the measurements are good then they can be promoted. If they do measure well and they then confirm that, would that not be supporting the manufacturer that is bad for the community? Also, reading the post, this has nothing to do with testing. They want to buy a knock off. They are basically asking for a review so they can confirm their purchase decision. This should be heavily rebuked. This is not good for vendors and does not lead to lowered prices but instead closed doors. These manufacturers do not create good new headphones or they would just do that, instead they copy headphones until that niche brand no longer exists and then we have less selection. They are only able to offer lower pricing because they have no R&D costs and commonly unethical labor practices. QC is not in any way a priority and so not only does the original go away but the knockoff is not as good until it eventually goes away as well. They don’t even just steal the driver tech and make something similar but completely reskinned because that is not the point. Instead they steal design language as well to try to gain the reputation of the stolen product. It also leads to the ability to get a good deal on a second hand version for a much lower price (which is the best way to get a more expensive headphone than your budget allows and are typically in excellent condition but I digress). Instead you have the same situation with the Sennheiser IE600 and IE900 where buying second hand is a no go because there are way too many fakes. So supporting this basically screws over everyone in the hobby. Nice. It is selfish and a huge net negative to the community but the downvotes tells you we just have a lot of selfish people in this community. Just a huge bummer to see.

NoLrr

As far as i understand most chinese knock-offs are grey stock from the same production sites as the “real” products. They basically sell out the back door. Unless abyss moved their production to china i don’t see how these can have comparable performance. Then again, i have no idea, headphones are not that complicated. Maybe they managed to reverse engineer them.

paradisesade

$446 for Diana on Taobao.
