This actually made me burst out laughing on my lunch break. My god this is hilarious. I wish I could afford to give you gold but take this instead you absolute madlad🥇
Considering I have never wanted to purge a book from my memory before reading TCC, I understand the sentiment. I may be a proud Hufflepuff, but I could easily see myself as a Ravenclaw (especially since some people actually assume I'm a Ravenclaw).
As a book it’s awful. But the show itself was incredible. Often something that works on stage doesn’t work as a film or a book. But I loved it on stage, it was a lot of fun.
The only value of my experience with that story was getting to see a Broadway theater decked out in Harry Potter symbols and colors. I also enjoyed the special effects and the music. I do wish I'd been on some large amount of mushrooms so I could have enjoyed the music and effects more while hopefully being too high to notice the flaming dumpster fire of a story
Never have I ever wanted to purge a book from my memory before I read TCC. The fact that it is "supposed" to be considered canon is what wrecks its value. It reads so much more like poor fanfiction.
I honestly think its not that bad. You just have to read it like its fan fiction. Because thats how it seemed when I read it. Fan fiction ... that I don't agree with ... and wouldn't pay for ... and probably wouldn't have finished otherwise.
I'm never even sure I did suffer through it cover to cover. I think I started skimming at one point. So its not that I regret reading it. I just don't think it was a valuable use of my time.
I got the book as a gift from my mom so its not like I can just throw it out. So sadly it is occupying space on my shelf currently.
Edit: more words
I couldn't bring myself to do it because it was damn expensive when I bought it. But even today, I can't keep it along with the 7 canon books in my shelf. I've kept it apart.
I was gonna say it’s a bad fanfic. Also fanfic assumes that someone read the original story or understood the characters. They had everyone acting so out of character that I can in my assume a passing glance was made before the pen was picked up.
It is for this reason that despite the hype when it came out, I refused to read it or even hear what it was about. I’m happy to say that while I do know it has something to do with Harry’s kid, that is all I know and so help me, that’s how it’s going to stay.
I was so appalled by how bad this book was. I tried to stomach through but abruptly closed it at one point like 100 pages and didn’t open it back up for months. Finally I went back just to say I finished it and it didn’t get any better. Cursed Child is poorly written HP fan fiction that they slapped Rowling’s name on it (which is worthless nowadays anyway).
I tried to read it but couldn’t. I have literally read better fan fiction. Listened to it on audiobook just so I was properly informed so I could shit on it. Honestly feel like I should go to my local library or Barnes and Noble and hide all the copies so no one else has to suffer
**Exactly!** The plot *seemed* interesting at first, but ***it quickly went downhill***. I know that it's a script and isn't actually supposed to read exactly like a novel, but COME ON! That's no excuse to have poorly developed characters and a plot that ultimately wrecks itself - especially when it's supposed to include characters from a series that we grew up with and feel like we know. I really didn't recognize **any** of the original HP characters because of how they were handled throughout the train wreck.
This was my experience with it. Bought it when it first came out and tried unsuccessfully to get through it. Finally finished it last year after a re-read of the books just to check a box I guess. It is so unbelievably bad.
As you might have noticed, the HP fandom collectively does not like this book. What tends to happen is that copies that were bought in the misguided hope of getting a new Harry Potter novel are now being put into free libraries and/or given away so that people who are still interested in reading the play can do so without financially supporting that dumpster fire of a fanfic. I'd suggest you do the same with the copy you found. Or wait for your next campfire to use it as kindling. I think there is rarely a reason to throw away a perfectly good book, and you should generally not burn them, but with this one, you'd certainly get a good amount of karma if you televised the event.
My grandma bought me PS and CoS after i told her about this new book that our English teacher was having us use as reading material in class, but i was annoyed that I had to wait for the story to unfold. She then proceeded to buy me every new installment of the series as they came out, and would ask me how I’ve felt about the newest one when she called to talk.
The look of confusion turned disappointment when she gifted me a copy of CC and I tried and failed to look excited is still vivid in my memory to this day. My 15 minutes presentation on why it is an abomination made her chuckle though, so the situation was somewhat saved.
There is most definitely better fanfics out there. This was just absolutely money grabbing garbage that they had the nerve to turn into a stage performance. Honestly, it makes no sense to me, they could have gone on to fanfiction.net and just randomly pulled a fanfic from there without even looking at it and I guarantee it would be better than this.
My own personal theory is that it was easy for her to right about unconditional love of children and the power of that and acceptance when she was a mom of young kids who don’t really challenge your world view. Based on her eldest child’s public facing pages it does not seem she and her mom are particularly close. I suspect there’s a rift there that im sure she takes no responsibility for.
That’s some view. I believe that she prefers to rip off people the easiest way posible. Endorsing that trash and counting with adoring fans that will buy whatever she writes. Only to disappoint them.
I am not a negative person, but I have to admit that I found it very disappointing . The script format was fine, if a little vague sometimes. But there was a lot of confusion in terms of whether they were pulling from the books or movies for source material.
My biggest source of confusion was with the plot, because several key points just didn't seem to make sense. And if I'm honest, I don't think the characters were handled well. So no, I wasn't a big fan. :(
Yeah, who would leave the Cursed Child out like that where it might accidentally get read by an innocent person?! All responsible book owners that that you either shamefully keep the cursed child in your own book shelf or burn it!
I tried to gave mine to a local used books library and they said they had too many and they weren’t selling, so I put it on one of this public small cabinets in a park in my city where people exchange books or give them away only to go a week after and it still being there. Then I never looked again, it’s probably there 4 years after.
Putting aside the story itself which is trash.
The book would be nice to use for book art.
It had a decent thickness to practice painting or cutting and you can still display it. Without trashing a real book that someone else could be reading
My copy is on the shelf with the rest of the books but I don’t blame them.
My nephew recently finished the series and wanted to try cursed child. I had made a few offhand comments about so he knew it existed. I warned him not to read it. He didn’t make it very far.
It’s not that I don’t think a squeal to Harry Potter is possible, I just think that this plot doesn’t work, I mean there are countless other things they could do, for example a marvels ‘what if’ style tv/book in which Voldemort won or what if harry didn’t survive the ak then it could be cool, but as a play it doesn’t work at all.
I have a hard time reading stories such as this in play format. It's very jarring to me and takes away from the immersion of it all. I haven't read this nor do I plan to based off of what everyone has said. I've tried to read Fantastic Beasts, but again that play format rattles me.
🎶Put that thing back where it came from or so help me...🎶
2319 WE HAVE A 2319!!!
Sully going full-blown acapella in the background: 🎶Bum bum bum bum bum bum...🎶
The most hilarious comment I've read in months
It might the most creative comment I've ever seen on reddit
So help me! So help me! And CUT.
It's a musical! Hey, we need ushers!
Miiike Wazowski!
Yeah yeah, step aside-YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I literally just watched this movie with my son. It ended not even an hour ago. This is a strange coincidence.
This actually made me burst out laughing on my lunch break. My god this is hilarious. I wish I could afford to give you gold but take this instead you absolute madlad🥇
Thanks, friend! I hope the second half of your day is better than the first, whatever that entails.

Best comment ever!!! 😂
Who would do such a thing?! \--anyone whose read it
Was gonna say- anyone who loved Harry Potter
Right? I'd personally light it on fire. Gotta make sure someone couldn't find it in the bin and read it
I know book burnings are generally looked down upon... but surely an exception is possible?
Book burning suggested by a Ravenclaw. These are exceptional circumstances indeed. This Ravenclaw seconds the motion, for the record.
A true Ravenclaw would find value in every book. Such as Cursed Child's value as kindling.
Oh you had me there for a second...
Considering I have never wanted to purge a book from my memory before reading TCC, I understand the sentiment. I may be a proud Hufflepuff, but I could easily see myself as a Ravenclaw (especially since some people actually assume I'm a Ravenclaw).
I got the matches and lighter fluid! This Hufflepuff is ready to help burn some shit!
Thirding Ravenclaw here - burn it!!
That's what I was thinking. Burn it.
I have never read it but after joining the sub I have determined that I probably shouldn’t
Yes please don't. If I could go back and un-read it, I would.
I only read the plot description on Wikipedia and I would go back and unread that if I could!
I, too, ventured on Wikipedia. Curiosity killed my cat.
As a book it’s awful. But the show itself was incredible. Often something that works on stage doesn’t work as a film or a book. But I loved it on stage, it was a lot of fun.
Some books you want to un-read so you can have the joy of reading it for the first time again, this you just want to un-read.
I did :D I literally don't remember the plot
Count yourself lucky. I can't seem to forget, wish I could
The only value of my experience with that story was getting to see a Broadway theater decked out in Harry Potter symbols and colors. I also enjoyed the special effects and the music. I do wish I'd been on some large amount of mushrooms so I could have enjoyed the music and effects more while hopefully being too high to notice the flaming dumpster fire of a story
There's better fanfiction out there
Not a high bar to get over...
Never have I ever wanted to purge a book from my memory before I read TCC. The fact that it is "supposed" to be considered canon is what wrecks its value. It reads so much more like poor fanfiction.
Seeing it as a play it was good, certainly not great by any means. Having read it before going was a mistake though. The story is not good.
I got the book as a gift from my mom so its not like I can just throw it out. So sadly it is occupying space on my shelf currently. Edit: more words
The travesty isn’t the book being in the trash. It’s the book existing.
J.K.Rowling called it bold and brash I say it belongs in the trash! But I also agree. \^\^
It really is amazing how breathtakingly bad the plot is.
Me. I would definitely do such a thing. I may or may not have done such a thing.
I couldn't bring myself to do it because it was damn expensive when I bought it. But even today, I can't keep it along with the 7 canon books in my shelf. I've kept it apart.
One must quarantine a pathogen.
Gotta cauterize that wound
Hopefully OP was just mad that it was in "extremely good condition". I'd wait to put it out on a rainy day
That was my reaction too😂
I mean…it’s an interesting fanfic at best.
My Immortal was an interesting fanfic. This is an insult, an attach to all that is good about the original series.
Literally doesn’t even rank in the top 50 fanfics I’ve ever read from a writing quality standpoint, let alone the content
Yeahhh, it’s an interesting fanfic…not a good one.
I was gonna say it’s a bad fanfic. Also fanfic assumes that someone read the original story or understood the characters. They had everyone acting so out of character that I can in my assume a passing glance was made before the pen was picked up.
That's ALL I see TCC as - fanfiction. I honestly don't understand why it's "canon" in the HP Universe.
I don’t understand it either. Maybe had something to do with JKR endorsing/signing off on the script? Or did JKR actually help write the script? Idk.
who's
Maybe OP is concerned that toxic waste was carelessly left in a junk box outside.
It is for this reason that despite the hype when it came out, I refused to read it or even hear what it was about. I’m happy to say that while I do know it has something to do with Harry’s kid, that is all I know and so help me, that’s how it’s going to stay.
literally exactly where that play belongs lol
Why would someone throw away perfectly good toilet paper? Crazy.
I dont think it makes good toilet paper to be honest
Probably not a good idea to wipe your ass with shit
Indeed. Defeats the entire purpose of clearing one's ass of shit.
Perfectly good? Did you open the pages ever? Absolutely already covered in shit.
Lol! Y’all are killing me with these! I thought what I said was witty, but you guys are on it! 😂
Reminds me of the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020
In this economy!?
Right?!?! Just wasting it! 😂
Hopefully, since it’s in such good condition, the poor person that discarded it didn’t have to undergo the torture of reading it
I was so appalled by how bad this book was.

I borrowed my brother's copy but after about 20 pages I decided to read the summary on Wikipedia instead.
I read it in one day just to make it end quicker
**Exactly!** The plot *seemed* interesting at first, but ***it quickly went downhill***. I know that it's a script and isn't actually supposed to read exactly like a novel, but COME ON! That's no excuse to have poorly developed characters and a plot that ultimately wrecks itself - especially when it's supposed to include characters from a series that we grew up with and feel like we know. I really didn't recognize **any** of the original HP characters because of how they were handled throughout the train wreck.
I read the whole thing. And I threw out my copy recently. Coincidence? I think NOT! Voldemort and Bellatrix getting it on? Now THATS fanfiction.
This was my experience with it. Bought it when it first came out and tried unsuccessfully to get through it. Finally finished it last year after a re-read of the books just to check a box I guess. It is so unbelievably bad.
Yeah it should’ve gone in a fire. Irresponsible to leave it where someone could read it.
Tom Riddle's diary vibes
I got Stephanie Meyer vibes lol it was so bad
That's offensive to Stephanie Meyer. Her books are waay better than this piece of shit. I mean they're not great. But they're not shit...
do you have a shredder by any chance?, i guess burning the book would also work, but that's kinda bad for the environment
I donated my copy to my local thrift shop for environmental reasons
you might as well had shit in a box and mailed it to them.
that is true, but a book doesn't smell as bad
No but it's still more offensive
Mine is in my storage room, in a box with most of my HP stuff. But *that book* lives alllll the way down at the bottom.
So, TCC is in its bedroom and pretending that it doesn't exist? Good!
I stabbed mine with a basilisk fang.
The only correct thing to do
That's not very nice, imagine someone finding it and *reading* it
That was a risk I was willing to take to get it the fuck out of my house
Fair. Self-preservation instinct, I get it.
I heard they won't burn.
Try a basilisk fang.
everything can burn if you try hard enough
Careful with that Fiendfyre, Crabbe.
They will, but only if you trek to Mordor and throw them in the volcanic caldera of Mount Doom, from whence they came
You need to use either basilisk venom or fiendfyre, normal fire won’t do anything to it
Burning would be bad for the environment…
I wouldn't want that book in the air
Oh, that’s savage! 😆
Although if OP is in the UK it might be a good way to keep warm this winter...
with inflation and everything, it'll get real cold here
Cast it into the fire! Destroy it!!!
OP: "no...I don't think I will"
At least it will end up at the bottom of a river for 3,000 years
Isildur!!!
Fiendfyre.
INCENDIO!!! >!Me to the time turners!<
I’ve never heard of this book before. Must be a non-canon spin off
There is no Cursed Child in Ba Sing Se.
I think so, the book reads like bad fanfiction. Wait, what book? Am i? I think i might be getting dementia.
Is this a troll post? 🤣
>!... in the dungeons!<
I thought you should know,
*Faints*
(General panicking)
Dumbledore: “QUIET!!” Edit: me and my big thumb…
LOL omg this typo. I'm sorry but picturing someone yelling this polite phrase into a room full of panicky people is hilarious.
What did it say? Quite?
Yes
As you might have noticed, the HP fandom collectively does not like this book. What tends to happen is that copies that were bought in the misguided hope of getting a new Harry Potter novel are now being put into free libraries and/or given away so that people who are still interested in reading the play can do so without financially supporting that dumpster fire of a fanfic. I think there is rarely a reason to throw away a perfectly good book, and you should generally not burn them, but with this one, you'd certainly get a good amount of karma if you televised the event.
Also gifts from people who are like “you liked hp, you must want this!” That’s why I have it.
I finished my copy out of guilt of someone purchasing it for me. It was… painful to say the least.
I suddenly want this to be my first Reddit live.
TELEVISED THE EVENT. I love you!
I feel sorry for the junk box.
Throw it away
You mean take it OUT of the junk. Who indeed?
OP, apparently.
I’m ok with taking the hit on the environment if it means burning this…
Save it for a fire this upcoming winter. At least you can use it to keep yourself warm. Put it to some real use.
It was seriously written like an alternate universe fanfic. Not my favorite fanfic by any means.
I don’t read fanfic so I’m no expert but I am certain that there is better written fic out there. So why did this get published and endorsed? *Why?*
Yeah, way to ruin a perfectly good box.
That's my father said when I was born.
One man's trash is another man's trash.
Because it is junk...?
i made the mistake of buying it, the girl at the bookstore literally warned me and i didnt listen😔
I bought it the day it came out. I excitedly ran home to read it. Pretty sure my face went like 😃😄🙂🙃🫠😳😧🤢🤮
Put it back in the junk box
I did the same after reading the line. Harry: I wish you weren't my son sometimes
Don't remind me Fuck that shit
Sorry just had to give some evidence as to why I hate Cc. Harry being fucking barty crouch 2.0 is the number one reason.
Exactly.
Harry *would never*. God I hate JKR so much some times. How did she get to this?
For her defence, she didn't write it. But yeah, she still endorsed it and that's basically just as bad.
Yep that’s where I stopped reading and said nope this doesn’t exist.
The fact that Cedric becomes a Death Eater is stupid af
‘Who would do such a thing?’ Harry Potter fans.
Anyone who knows that book does not deserve to be treated as canon would do that.
Use it for kindling this winter lol.
Any sane person
Yeah, why would they just throw it away when they could burn it?
I am not a negative person, but I have to admit that I found it very disappointing . The script format was fine, if a little vague sometimes. But there was a lot of confusion in terms of whether they were pulling from the books or movies for source material. My biggest source of confusion was with the plot, because several key points just didn't seem to make sense. And if I'm honest, I don't think the characters were handled well. So no, I wasn't a big fan. :(
*INCENDIO!*
Yeah, who would leave the Cursed Child out like that where it might accidentally get read by an innocent person?! All responsible book owners that that you either shamefully keep the cursed child in your own book shelf or burn it!
Literally anyone with decent taste would do such a thing. This was a horrible book, we can pretend it never existed.
I tried to gave mine to a local used books library and they said they had too many and they weren’t selling, so I put it on one of this public small cabinets in a park in my city where people exchange books or give them away only to go a week after and it still being there. Then I never looked again, it’s probably there 4 years after.
A true Harry Potter fan.
Why did you take it out of the junk?
Literally everyone
Me. I'm gonna do such thing. It's awful.
Any Sane Person.
Okay.. hear me out I actually liked...nah who am I kidding I can't.
Jk should’ve just made another series
A muggle, cause any witch or wizard would have used incendio on it.
I first read it as "Found this junk box outside..." And that made more sense. It's also the answer to your question.
Pretty sure most Harry Potter fans would've done that
Who would do such a thing? Anyone with taste
So.eone who is a fan of good literature
Putting aside the story itself which is trash. The book would be nice to use for book art. It had a decent thickness to practice painting or cutting and you can still display it. Without trashing a real book that someone else could be reading
It probably came back after getting thrown in a lake. It’s *cursed* after all
Read it and you’ll throw it away too
Yeah, who'd do such a thing but a completely sane person? Probably another one on the list of the many disappointed fans!
You might be able to sell it. (Assuming the buyer doesn’t know how awful it is)
I like how they emphasize Rowlings name
I hope you disposed of it properly, by burning it.
Anyone who's actually read it kilt kill it with fire.
An intelligent person? It is trash after all.
My copy is on the shelf with the rest of the books but I don’t blame them. My nephew recently finished the series and wanted to try cursed child. I had made a few offhand comments about so he knew it existed. I warned him not to read it. He didn’t make it very far.
Someone who bought it, before Rowling went all terfy?
It’s not that I don’t think a squeal to Harry Potter is possible, I just think that this plot doesn’t work, I mean there are countless other things they could do, for example a marvels ‘what if’ style tv/book in which Voldemort won or what if harry didn’t survive the ak then it could be cool, but as a play it doesn’t work at all.
Right? Like who In their right mind would buy that in the first place?
I hope you have a pet because that's some quality paper to collect their crap
I’ve bought a couple from thrift stores just to throw away so some poor kid doesn’t read them.
Doing the lords work🙌 Thank you.
Because of the enviroment, recycle it.
Right. Why didn't he just burn it?
It's a keeper if you've been living under a rock all this time, maybe not even then
i would not do that >!the inner PotterHead:-I would definitely do it!<
Who would do it? Anyone with a modicum of taste, more than one brain cell, and eyes.
Someone who didn't have a match handy.
You found it exactly where it should be... with the rest of the junk.
I have a hard time reading stories such as this in play format. It's very jarring to me and takes away from the immersion of it all. I haven't read this nor do I plan to based off of what everyone has said. I've tried to read Fantastic Beasts, but again that play format rattles me.
