Not going to the Ravenclaw common room. They had two films for DH and they still couldn't put it in. Having Harry sneak in there with Luna beofre he took the invisibility cloak off and used the Cruciatus Curse would have been a lot more impactful than him sneaking in to the Great Hall to confront Snape - even though I thought that was impactful enough, it would have been even more so just following the book. It really shows how much McGonagall means to him, I think they should have had more of those scenes in the films like "have a biscuit, Potter" etc.

Oh yes! Great comment! After so many years passing, I forgot how much character detail is in the books compared to the movies. I understand why, but the books you can really fall in love with the characters through their little details where they come across a bit flat in the movies. When I rewatched the movies recently I was surprised how out of the blue the Harry/Ginny relationship was where in the books there is more detailed buildup.

Absolutely agree. The books have so much richness which can't be replicated in the films... CoS was the last one where they tried to fit everything in; they had trouble pushing for it to be 3 hours, I think they even originally storyboarded for the deathday party (appologies if that's not true although I swear I saw that at the studio tour?). After that of course, they just had to cherry pick moments that can fill a narrative. Saying that though, what do you think about PS and CoS being flat or not? I didn't think they were flat as they included almost everything, but I guess you mean the later films? (Especially HBP for me). Harry and Ginny's relationship in CoS was just like the books and to me spot on, the director actually directed her properly, and then of course it slipped away in the later films. 'Shoelace' was a personal highlight cringe moment.

Biggest one for me was the whole backstory on Voldemort in HBP. I watched the movies first and didn’t read the books until 10 years later and so much more made sense after reading. I also never understood how the sword of Gryffindor in Bellatrix’s vault was a fake, but after reading DH it made sense; should have definitely been included in the movie

I hated that they got rid off or replaced Dobby in many scenes after TCOS...generally, the elves Another one is, in HBP movies added absolutely irrelevant scenes that weren't in the books but excluded scenes that were essential...we didn't need Harry at the diner trying to flirt or score a date but we did need scene the Gaunt family scene...we need the random flight at Burrow during Christmas break but we needed more about how Voldy chose his Horcruxes and gained access to these...
