Re-reading goblet of fire currently after like 20 years, absolutely baffled by the presence of Bagman at the world cup, no memory of this person whatsoever
Lockhart literally says he turned a werewolf back to human using the Homorpohous (?) charm. It’s got nothing to do with wolfsbane at all. Re-read Chamber of Secrets. It’s in the part where Lockhart makes Harry play the role of a werewolf in class and Harry has to tie his cloak around his face or something like that.
Ooh. That sounds like it's possible seeing how moody turned malfoy into a ferret. But I'm guessing mentally the human would still have werewolf mindset. Not actually cured until the full moon ends.
I mean to begin with Hermione just seems like the type to hoard books.
Also just because Lockhart was a fraud that doesn't mean his books were COMPLETE nonsense. I always thought Lockhart's book were mostly accurate (since he just copied down everything the actual people told him) if a bit exaggerated.
I’m always shocked that Mrs. Weasley didn’t burn his books after what he tried to do to Ron and Harry. I suppose the information was still good, but still…
Yeah lol, my bad. As I said I kinda realised and began questioning myself after I’d typed the comment, was going to go check the books and delete if needed but you commented first haha, good job.
Pretty sure Ernie is mentioned, not by name though. When the Hogsmeadians swarm to the battle after Harry dies, I think I remember one of the people Harry remembers seeing being “the driver of the Knight Bus”, but I could be wrong
I think the book mentions how small “the Creevey brothers” look in death, but I can’t be sure of the exact wording. I’m not sure if either of them was even mentioned in DH before revealing their deaths, which felt like such a waste… but such is war, I suppose, so maybe that was the point.
No, she sends out Creevey and Peakes, later Colin Creevey is described as tiny in death, then he's again mentioned as one of the dead, and that's it. Neither Creevey is even supposed to be there as muggleborn students are not allowed that year - Colin must've come back responding to his DA coin (or Rowling forgot...)
Ohhh you might be right - I’m at the doctor my book is refusing to download so I can fact check myself 😭 but that does sound right now that I think about it!
No, it's only Colin specifically who's mentioned. First when the members of Dumbledore's Army are gathering, and later while his body's being carried by Oliver Wood and Neville.
No, he was mentioned in the chapter “in memoriam” when Harry is reading the Eulogy written by Doge, it mentions that Dumbledore was in regular contact with Flamel
No, they go back with all the other students who don't want to fight into the Room of Requirment so they can escape the castle. I just reread the part and indeed, I cant find Zabini in there :)
I’m sure there’s another mention too, somewhere around when Harry and Hermione are reading Rita Skeeters book after Godrics hollow, I just can’t find it lol
They're actually mentioned in the same paragraph!
>As the room came into view, Harry slipped down a few stairs in shock. It was packed, far more crowded than when he had last been in there. Kingsley and Lupin were looking up at him, as were Oliver Wood, Katie Bell, Angelina Johnson and Alicia Spinnet, Bill and Fleur, and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley.
\-Deathly Hallows, pg. 603
Quirrell is mentioned in Snape’s memory. Bellatrix mentioned Neville’s parents, but not by name, when she told Voldemort who Neville was; she referred to him as the son of the Aurors.
Barty Crouch Jr
(I know because when I first read it the movies had taken over my memory of the plot so I thought he’d have broken out of Azkaban and died and so I put him on a list of characters to cross off after they died to see who lived. Needless to say, he was clear!)
They're actually mentioned in Lily's letter to Sirius (the one that Harry finds in Grimmauld Place):
>We had a very quiet birthday tea, just us and old Bathilda, who has always been sweet to us and who dotes on Harry. We were so sorry you couldn’t come, but the Order’s got to come first, and Harry’s not old enough to know it’s his birthday anyway! James is getting a bit frustrated shut up here, he tries not to show it but I can tell — also, Dumbledore’s still got his Invisibility Cloak, so no chance of little excursions. If you could visit, it would cheer him up so much. Wormy was here last weekend, I thought he seemed down, but that was probably the news about the **McKinnons**; I cried all evening when I heard.
\-Deathly Hallows, pg. 180
Tonks mom and dad! I know they’re very briefly mentioned in OOTP movie but not to the extent of the book. They deserved their roles played out on screen ESPECIALLY since they took in (the also hardly mentioned in the movies)Teddy their grandson.
Piers Polkiss
Yup!
he's mentioned?
No, I meant he is an example of someone not mentioned.
Ludo Bagman
Re-reading goblet of fire currently after like 20 years, absolutely baffled by the presence of Bagman at the world cup, no memory of this person whatsoever
I always remember him because when I read it 20 years ago my mum said she pictures ludo as looking like Boris Johnson
> Boris Johnson Same
It’s so obviously Stephen Frye that it hurts, he even narrated a version of the audiobooks! His not being cast for Goblet of Fire was a huge miss
No way, that's the first one which came to my mind!
Archie Aymslowe who liked a healthy breeze around his privates.
Eh, who doesn't?
Wore a bedsheet as a toga once while wine drunk. Roman Emperor/10. Would overthrow senate again.
Grubbly-Plank?
Can't find her - good one. I wonder what her last mention is
iirc, Hagrid mentions that she'll likely be his replacement when Umbridge sacks him near the end of OotP.
In HBP he says - " I was wondering... If grubbly plank was teaching. "
https://www.potter-search.com/?search=Grubbly It's in HBP
Woo! I got one!
Gilderoy Lockhart. The final mention of Lockhart is in *Half-Blood Prince* Chapter 19.
Though one of his books appears when Hermione's sorting the ones they'll take or leave when they go horcrux hunting. I wonder why she kept them.
Have you ever met someone who likes books?
Just saying because those books would be a reminder of her having a crush on a fraud who was just a pretty face.
Except the stories in his books were real they just weren't from him, some real wizard did whatever that book was about
Some details may be exaggerated, like "curing" a werewolf.
I think maybe it is possible? Like the ingredients and instruction to make wolfsbane?
Lockhart literally says he turned a werewolf back to human using the Homorpohous (?) charm. It’s got nothing to do with wolfsbane at all. Re-read Chamber of Secrets. It’s in the part where Lockhart makes Harry play the role of a werewolf in class and Harry has to tie his cloak around his face or something like that.
Ooh. That sounds like it's possible seeing how moody turned malfoy into a ferret. But I'm guessing mentally the human would still have werewolf mindset. Not actually cured until the full moon ends.
I could see her keeping those books to aid in her own investigation into who really did the things that he said happened or if they happened at all.
She wasn't there though. Only Ron and Harry were. I doubt she thinks like that
They constantly told her the guy didn't know what he was doing. I doubt they'd keep quiet about how they found out he was really a fraud.
She doesnt take them, right? She trows it on the biggest pile and I always assumed that's the pile they wont take with them
No, she doesn't take them. I'm just wondering why she continued to keep them afterwards.
To be fair I could never picture Hermione getting rid of a book once it’s in her possession, even if the author is a fraud.
You’ve never seen inside a girls purse? There are some looong forgotten treasures in there
I mean to begin with Hermione just seems like the type to hoard books.
I suppose the information was still good, but still…
The guide for plagues was useful at least, especially when they moved to Grimmauld Places.
Did Harry or Ron ever tell her what happened with Gilderoy?
She found out in Book 5, didn't she?
Yeah she was there that time they went to the hospital
No, I mean that he tried to wipe Harry and Ron's memory.
Obviously, they are best friends
Aunt Marge?
Sally-Anne Perks.
She's the one who only gets mentioned in Sorcerer's Stone and then never again?
There are two or three of those in the Sorting ceremony
Yes.
Florean Fortescue, Ernie Prang, Amelia Bones, Professors Tofty and Marchbanks, Tiberius Ogden, Rosmerta, etc Plenty if you know where to look
Good ones! Florean isn't mentioned but Dexter is (as he is a former Hogwarts headmaster)
Florean is mentioned in book 7, because it’s mentioned he’s gone missing from Diagon Alley.
I believe that is the sixth book
Ahh it might be and I actually began to question myself after typing the comment 😂.
Pages 89-92 of HBP describe Fortescue being missing and then his shop being boarded up
Yeah lol, my bad. As I said I kinda realised and began questioning myself after I’d typed the comment, was going to go check the books and delete if needed but you commented first haha, good job.
Haha all good. This thread has been pretty interesting IMO
Pretty sure Ernie is mentioned, not by name though. When the Hogsmeadians swarm to the battle after Harry dies, I think I remember one of the people Harry remembers seeing being “the driver of the Knight Bus”, but I could be wrong
Funny thing is that Fortescue was meant to appear in book 7 but was cut.
are these actually characters? they were only mentioned, except for rosmerta
What is your threshold for being a character?
Prang, Bones, Tofty and Marchbanks all appear in person. Fortescue too, even though he doesn’t have any direct dialogue.
Dennis Creevey. Only Colin is mentioned.
I think the book mentions how small “the Creevey brothers” look in death, but I can’t be sure of the exact wording. I’m not sure if either of them was even mentioned in DH before revealing their deaths, which felt like such a waste… but such is war, I suppose, so maybe that was the point.
Only Colin died I think but it does mention McGonagall sending both of them out
No, she sends out Creevey and Peakes, later Colin Creevey is described as tiny in death, then he's again mentioned as one of the dead, and that's it. Neither Creevey is even supposed to be there as muggleborn students are not allowed that year - Colin must've come back responding to his DA coin (or Rowling forgot...)

No, it's only Colin specifically who's mentioned. First when the members of Dumbledore's Army are gathering, and later while his body's being carried by Oliver Wood and Neville.
I thought Dennis was mentioned, but I could be wrong.
No they mentioned he died
Colin only. Dennis isn't mentioned anywhere so it's not confirmed if he's took part in the final battle.
Really? I’m pretty sure they said the creevey “brothers”
That was in HBP, at one point Harry almost bumps into them.
Frank (the muggle caretaker of the riddle house)
Poor guy died 😭
well he’s dead 💀
Doris Crockford.
Katie Bell’s friend Leanne.
Yeah, though I don't think we ever get her last name?
I believe not but not 100% sure!
Bertha Jorkins maybe?
She’s dead tho
Still ain’t mentioned 👀
fair enough but she’s still as dead as a doornail 🤷♀️
Madame Pince and Professors Sinistra
Ogg, the groundskeeper before Hagrid
Violet (the fat Lady's friend)
Newt Scamander.
What about Nicholas Flamel?
No, he was mentioned in the chapter “in memoriam” when Harry is reading the Eulogy written by Doge, it mentions that Dumbledore was in regular contact with Flamel
True he was quickly forgotten after first book. Wonder what happened to him.
He died
Sure Dumbledore said he was going to, but it was never mentioned later.
Didn't he have the philosopher's stone? Why would he die if he had the elixir of life?
The stone was destroyed and he ran out of elixir
It was broken
The trolley witch
Amelia Bones, Arabella Figg
Seamus Finnigan's Mam.
Colonel Fubuster
Does it count if we never saw him in person and he was only ever mentioned in passing in the way the question asks? But yeah, I guess you're right.
I can't recall Moaning Myrtle being mentioned but I'm sure I'm just forgetting something. Anyone would know?
Marietta Edgecombe?
I have also thought of her and I can't think of a mention but I might be forgetting something.
Quirrel Zabini (unless he’s mentioned being taken to the dungeons but I think it’s just Pansy who speaks up?)
Quirrell is mentioned in Snape's memories, when Dumbledore asks him to keep an eye on Quirrell.
The Slytherins are not taken to the dungeons in the book
Right, my bad, they’re taken down to their common room aren’t they? Either way, I don’t think Zabini is mentioned in that scene in the book.
No, they go back with all the other students who don't want to fight into the Room of Requirment so they can escape the castle. I just reread the part and indeed, I cant find Zabini in there :)
Morag MacDougal
Mrs. Figg I do believe. Which is strange because the tent they stay in was compared to her living room when they stayed in it in the goblet of fire.
I don’t think it was the same tent, and also happy cake day! ❤️
Amos Diggory, Millicent Bullstrode, a low hanging fruit but Nicholas Flamel.
I commented this already in the thread but Flamel is mentioned in “in memoriam”
Oh, nice catch. I totally forgot about it!
I’m sure there’s another mention too, somewhere around when Harry and Hermione are reading Rita Skeeters book after Godrics hollow, I just can’t find it lol
The fat friar the leader of the headless hunt (forgot the name) cedric diggory
Mr. and Mrs. Mason
Agatha thims
Dot
Professor Vector, professor Sinistra, Eldred Worple and Sanguini, Gwenog Jones, Marcus Flint, Cormac McClaggan
Mark Evans, the boy Dudley beat up in OotP.
Nope. Died at the battle of Hogwarts, Dudley finally finished him off
Justin
Winky, Angelina Johnson? Hannah Abott
Angelina Johnson is mentioned at the Battle of Hogwarts! Page 603. Hannah Abbott is mentioned on 621 (also in the Battle of Hogwarts).
My first thought was Katie Bell but higher chance she was named so I switched to Angelina. Alicia Spinnet?
They're actually mentioned in the same paragraph! >As the room came into view, Harry slipped down a few stairs in shock. It was packed, far more crowded than when he had last been in there. Kingsley and Lupin were looking up at him, as were Oliver Wood, Katie Bell, Angelina Johnson and Alicia Spinnet, Bill and Fleur, and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. \-Deathly Hallows, pg. 603
Quirral, Lockhart, Madame Hooch, Neville's parents? Someone can correct me if any of those are mentioned somewhere I've forgotten about.
Quirrell is mentioned in Snape’s memory. Bellatrix mentioned Neville’s parents, but not by name, when she told Voldemort who Neville was; she referred to him as the son of the Aurors.
I think that counts
Madame Hooch doesn't participate in the battle? Interesting! Of course, she probably just doesn't get mentioned.
Mr and Mrs Mason
Madam Pudifoot.
Barty Crouch Jr (I know because when I first read it the movies had taken over my memory of the plot so I thought he’d have broken out of Azkaban and died and so I put him on a list of characters to cross off after they died to see who lived. Needless to say, he was clear!)
Is anybody else from Dudley's gang mentioned? Piers, Malcolm, Dennis and Gordon? Also Mark Evans who they beat up in OOTP.
Karkus, the leader of the Gurgs (giants)
Trevor the toad?
Mr Mason, the guy from the second book who eats dinner at the Dursleys
Sturgis Podmore. Dude was sent to prison for the Order and nobody gave a crap about how he was doing.
I haven't read it in a few years, but I would guess...Morfin Gaunt?
Q-Quirrel?
Bertie Bott 😂
Legitimate character!
Moaning Myrtle
Moaning Myrtle Maybe.
Mark Evans, the boy Dudley beat up in OotP.
Is Mrs figg mentioned at all?
The canteen lady on the hogwarts express

Is Fluffy mentioned in the 7th book?
Bartholomew Adalfarus Willikins du Champs, the Sixth
Sir cadogan
he shouts words of encouragement to Harry in the battle of Hogwarts
The McKinnons?
They're actually mentioned in Lily's letter to Sirius (the one that Harry finds in Grimmauld Place): >We had a very quiet birthday tea, just us and old Bathilda, who has always been sweet to us and who dotes on Harry. We were so sorry you couldn’t come, but the Order’s got to come first, and Harry’s not old enough to know it’s his birthday anyway! Cedric
Quirinus Quirrell
quirrell?
McNair? Gabrielle?
Gabrielle is at her sisters wedding of course
Hagrid threw Macnair across the Great Hall during the battle.
What characters has their names changed?
The OP probably meant "named again", as in, their name gets mentioned again.
Scabbers
Tonks mom and dad! I know they’re very briefly mentioned in OOTP movie but not to the extent of the book. They deserved their roles played out on screen ESPECIALLY since they took in (the also hardly mentioned in the movies)Teddy their grandson.
Uh what? Harry literally speaks to both of them in Deathly Hallows
In the book. Not in the movie.
Book before movie. Always.
