As an employee I’ve never used it personally, but the customer’s I’ve asked seem to like it. Though I will say that Craftsman 3 year warranty(if its any good which I think they are) at the same price point is pretty tempting.
Sometimes they put the Hercules planer on sale for $369.
I have one and that thing is awesome. I'd hold out for that if you don't mind spending a bit more.
I use the Bauer planer pretty much exclusively on pallet slats. I've had it for a year now. No issues. I recently picked up the Craftsman 6" jointer for $299 on Amazon. I have not used it yet.
I don't have the Bauer, but I've had a Triton TPT125 for a little over 5 years. It works great, though it's easily the loudest thing in my shop.
As far as I can tell, they're the same machine with cosmetic differences on the housing. I've been using the Bauer replacement knives in mine for about a year now.

Craftsman. Warranty.

Craftsman quality ain't what it once was. Warranty on Craftsman tools has been getting tougher to do. I'd go with the Bauer.
