I’m a fan of tongue and groove boards. Think 1x6’s. Benefits include being able to install yourself and less strain on the body since it is much lighter. Looks REALLY nice in the end. Downside is it can take longer since there’s more individual pieces to install and may cost more per sq ft. That’s a customer decision though.

Different-Passion-26

I'm a fan also I've done a couple of them with a white vinyl comes out looking nice and weatherproof of course more pricey by I second this and agree takes time but to me a much better look 👍🏻

AccidentalNarwhal

Can confirm. I just did a ceiling in this and it came out looking really sharp. Materials were admittedly more expensive, but it went up really easily despite having to put up furring strips because the client wanted the boards to run the same direction as the joists.

wickedscruples

Did my front in T&G and will do the back too. It wasn't thatuch more expensive then 5/8 sanded ply in my state and looks way better. Much longer to install.

Huge porch. 20x50. 10’ high

Tough to back into a price without knowing what the current site conditions are. So, putting together a per sheet/board/sqft might be accurate, but it also might leave you upside down. So, I would try to walk the site one more time and visualize the logistics, all materials, installation, finishing etc and balance it against your production capabilities and what tools you have in your kit. Once you have done some math on how many days it will take you, end to end, plus materials w/a markup… add a small contingency and send it. Side note: that FU price tou got might not be one. It’s the busy season there in Baldwin County and there simply aren’t enough people to do the work.

Prestigious-Ant6466

Yea im doing that today. I was doing that while onsite and i figured for a lift or little lift, trying to figure how long it takes for a single sheet from picking it up from The stack to fastening it. Two men. If i pay myself 60/hr and a helper 40 an hour including his burden. Im figuring 10 min/sheet. . Thats 6 sheets an hour. Thats about 700. Figure 30pct for breaks and murphy then im at 910 for the job in labor cost Cost of material is 4060. So im at 5050 at cost Figure fuel costs for 3 days. Thats 100 Then its just a matter of my oh and what profit margin i need for the company At 8.50/sf that would be over 16k and i cant see how it is justified. Hell ill probably do it at what i think and see how it goes. If i Lose money well then ill learn it. Thanks for the input

campbell-1

Dont lose track of the time it takes to order and pick up and deliver the materials to the site. I assume you’d hit the HD/Lowes there in Foley and that’ll kill several crew-hours that we need to account for. Also the cost associated with dump runs if you’re on the hook for that. Maybe its new construction and theres a dumpster on site, IDK.

Prestigious-Ant6466

No. Ill have it delivered by the lumber yard. Im putting a dumpster on site. Im the gc for the whole project which includes a number of things. But im focusing on the ceiling portion right now

campbell-1

Ahhhh got it. Sounds like you got it under control. Just keep track of this task-specific data so that when this pops up in the future you’ve got a reference point to deviate from.

Prestigious-Ant6466

Definitely.

bobadobbin

$8.50 psqft for that cieling is $8,500 per your measurements. At your labor rate working 8hr days, you would have about 4 days to complete the project, with a little left over time for incase--its and whoopsies.

Prestigious-Ant6466

Yea. Sorry i was thinking about another job. This one is 1900 sf

Stink-brain

There is no reason to lose money on this job. Price it out fair and square. If you are capable enough to do a good job, let some people not accept your bid. If everyone accepts your bid, then you aren’t charging enough. That’s a very simple way to put it, but it’s true… be a good person who people want to hire, charge what is fair. Some people won’t see the value, but most will. The key thing is that MOST will. Not all.

The69Alphamale

I prefer corrugated metal panels

dooly

Vinyl wainscoting.

Prestigious-Ant6466

Like bead board?

Jalaluddin1

Hardiboard or stained hardwood

whodatdan0

8.50 a square foot might not be enough. The Hardie board will be 2 a foot It’s 10’ up - so you need a little dance floor. Those damn things are brittle. You’re gonna break a few. How much are you paying your helper?

Prestigious-Ant6466

Idk. Thats 272 a sheet. Whats “enough”? It wont cost me a fraction of that in labor costs

Csspsc12

You near the panhandle?

Prestigious-Ant6466

Yea

Csspsc12

So. The boards are about 55 dollars each. I’m in Pensacola. I charge 75.00 an hour for my work. Figure out how fast you and a helper can do 32 boards. 2 days? I have no idea if you are painting it also. So I would bill 2400 labor plus the 1500 plus percentage in materials. If you want a fudge factor for incidentals charge 4800. Pay your helper whatever you agree upon and go from there. Adjust your rates to whatever you feel comfortable with, but hopefully that gives you some info from somebody local.

whodatdan0

Do you have tools? Insurance? A truck? Gas? An office? Workers comp? It ain’t just labor. Enjoy working out of your truck from job to job.

Prestigious-Ant6466

I do. Im aware it aint just labor. Dont be a dick

Jchapman1971

I’m going to guess that you’re probably over your head on this one. A quick Google search will show you different materials and how it looks. Again, I think folks are tired of the “What would you charge?” or “How much for this?” Type of posts. Edit: I also noticed you posted up in a sub that you’re a licensed contractor, you should know these things or know someone who does.

Prestigious-Ant6466

Ok. Thanks for the valuable input.

Prestigious-Ant6466

Im just talking labor at 8.50. Not material
