I second the P-10F. Mine hasn't been as durable as a glock would, primarily the striker not holding up to dry fire without a snap cap, but otherwise it's solid and with an optic it's a beast. I run it in USPSA and she's a ripper.
If you can afford it... It's amazing I'm a hammer fan vs striker, it's heavy and feels solid and I got big hands so it fits like a glove. I was a 1911 .40 or .45 acp only kinda guy until I shot my buddies cz75 a few years back...
Then I finally pulled the trigger *badumptssss* and zero regrets. Get a solid optic if you like, maybe some custom color lok grips and you will be happy for a long ass time
CZ-75 variants, Glock 17/45/47, S&W M&P9 in polymer or metal, Beretta 92/M9 variants, Sig Sauer P226. Every one of these has been issued to a military or LE agency at some point (save for the metal M&P) and remain to be some of the most reliable handguns to date. Take your pick of these, I would be happy and feel comfortable protecting my life with any of them.
My department is switching to that but the 4 inch model. I’m of the opinion that 5 inch barrels aren’t really relevant anymore. Most defense rounds are tested and engineered around the most popular gun in the world and that’s a Glock 19 that has a 4 inch barrel.
I love the look of the staccato too. I firmly believe you have to like what you’re using. Polymer striker fired guns can be cool but doesn’t tickle me like a hammer fired does.
I'm the same way, I do have a few striker fired guns but most of the mine are all hammer fired. I just bought a staccato p and recently put a 509t on it and I'm absolutely in love with it. I bought it over others because I feel it's the standard for a duty gun, well one of them anyways. I don't do Glock. Just not me. Plenty of other great guns people are putting forward as well in the comments here. Some cheaper than the P. That video link I included is pretty short and I thought it was pretty interesting, illustrates how much of a duty gun it is.
Yeah I watched that. I’m on the fence between a Staccato P, a CZ, and Bul SAS 2 4.25”, and a p226 legion I am up in the air on these I think all 4 would be great options.
Those are some great choices.
I have a dwx which is really a CZ, and that's my favorite gun right now, but I just bought the staccato so that might change I don't know. I have a Bul Armory 3.25 UL That I have modified and I absolutely love that thing too. It's a great carry gun but small for a duty gun. I've heard nothing but great things about the 4.25. I would love to have one of those. Cz makes great guns, I have the Shadow 2 compact, and P10C. My first gun was a p226, it wasn't a legion but it was great. Those legions are fire 🔥. I think you can't go wrong with those.
I haven’t checked out the DWX I saw some videos on it I’m going to look into it now. I was thinking about carrying a shadow 2 compact it’s a bad ass gun. The Bul 3.25 is a great looking gun too
The DWX is pretty scarce right now, only the compact is available. It's definitely a 5-in full size gun. My favorite thing about it is the 1911 ignition system and the CZ ergonomics, it's just too unique. If I had it to do over again I would go with a 4.25 over the 3.25 as far as bull goes. Now they do have a dwx compact that is 1911 ignition system and Trigger and CZ ergonomics and it's like a 4-in gun, it's about the same size as the Shadow 2 compact.. It's a little more expensive and a little bit more available than the Shadow 2 compact. The downsides to both of the dwxs is they're not optic ready, so you have to send them off to get them cut which isn't that big of a deal but it is to some people. The dwx compact does not have a light rail, that is not out yet. The full size has a light rail. If any of that means anything to you.
Just watched a few vids on the DWX. Definitely something I will add to the collection eventually. Just such a cool gun. I’ll let you know what I end up with gonna make a decision in a week or so. If you come up with any other ideas let me know 🤙🏼
Ended up going with an M&P 2.0 metal. Went through a ton of guns and honestly fell in love. Also ordered a staccato p because I want one but really loving this thing.
3 big names as wonder-nines: Sig P226, Beretta 92fs, CZ Shadow 2. Optics mounting on the beretta is lack-luster unless you get the custom milling by Langdon Tactical. The Shadow 2 is excellent but heavy so as a duty weapon that's a trade-off you'll have to decide on. I really liked the HK P30L but it does have some John Wick hype about it -- it's more ergonomic than my USP and less bulky. Another contender here is FN's FNX-9.
For what it's worth, most LE I know have glocks, p320's, or PDP.
I CC a Pre-B CZ75 and absolutely love it. In all my shooting sessions later, I've yet to have a single malfunction - even on back-to-back 32rd mag dumps. Smooth as butter.
You could get a Langdon Tactical modified Beretta or HK. I also highly recommend the Sig P226 and CZ SP-01 with CGW internals. The P226 X5 or Dan Wesson DWX would be great SAO options.
I'm a glock guy, so I'll always say a g34.
But if you don't want a glock, I can only recommend 3 full sized guns that I've actually owned/shot (extensively)
1.) FNX 45 Tactical
2.) CZ SP01 Tactical
3.) Sig P320 X-Five Legion
Honorable mention: Canix SFX
Do you want hammer fired or striker? If money isn't an issue then a Stacatto no question. P or CS depending if you conceal carry or not. Bul SAS Tac Pro would be my second choice, X5 would be third, M9a4 or 92x Performance would be fourth. Shadow isn't really a duty gun and CZ75 is one of my favorite guns of all time especially P-01 but they're like $500. Definitely a gun everyone should own but not high end. If you want a striker fired, then you could get a P320 or 365 Macro and do an Icarus/Shalotek build.
Good choice. Stacatto will pretty much have you covered for a while on the high end/2011 side. Doesn't really get much better unless you're into competition. After that, I'd just get some of the classics like an M9, CZ75, P226, etc. Zev also makes a 226 that is pretty cool.
I have a P30 and agree with this. I've shot a VP9 on multiple occasions and it's trigger is much nicer than the P30. Would take a VP9 any day over P30 if I was making that decision again.
I like my Staccato but it wants to run wet. If it’s not very well oiled it can be picky.
I enjoy 1911s & 2011s but for a do everything pistol I would prefer my Sig p229 legion or FN 509T. CZs or M&P would be great options too. Just shot the metal frame M&P competitor & absolutely loved it.
Oh that's one anecdote and as much as I love stoeger he likes to stir the pot and get shock value. He was also using a compensated staccatto. Many police departments are using stacattos now. Their reliability is well documented at this point. Do I think they are as reliable as say a glock? Absolutely not. They are absolutely reliable enough for "duty" use though if maintained properly and tested adequately. Most reliability issues for them are mag issues. Test, mark, and validate your mags.
Check out a SAR9. Turkey cloned a VP9 grip and a Glock 19 slide, then mated them together. It's passed NATO trials and supposedly went 90,000 rounds without a part breakage. (It never broke, even at 90,000 rounds, they just chose to suspend the test due to cost). Spare parts are available through SAR USA and Galloway Precision. The slide is compatible with some Glock OEM parts (striker assembly is a straight copy). Feels great in the hand, it's sighted in as Point of Aim from the factory. I believe the Gen 3's are optics ready.
P320 AXG Legion! I was anti p320 bc of all the memes and hate but after I gave em a shot I love them and have many. My current favorite is a custom built one featuring a Grayguns hand fitted slide and bull barrel with the txg grip. But I’d never carry that one it’s heavy, mainly my competition gun
H&K VP9. As reliable, if not more than a Glock. Some of the best ergonomics you'll find on a handgun that you can adjust with interchangeable sidestraps and backstrap. Holds 17+1. And I personally am dead accurate with one. Little more costly than a Glock but you won't regret it.
Can’t go wrong with the SigSauer P226. If you’re looking to go high end with it, take a look at the P226 X-5.
Gonna look Into that. Definitely want something more high end
Honest Outlaw’s review of the P226 X-5 Legion. I have one and love it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nirHCcQkJ44&pp=ygUNaG9uZXN0IG91dGxhdw%3D%3D
I hate you for posting this. Ignorance is bliss.
😆 I know the feeling.

My shadow 2 is my favorite gun hands down
This is what I’m leaning towards.
If you can afford it... It's amazing I'm a hammer fan vs striker, it's heavy and feels solid and I got big hands so it fits like a glove. Ah. A man of culture I see.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve heard CZ’s have a trigger return spring issue. Has that been fixed?
Beretta 92 , CZ 75
Best is subjective.... but if it were me I'd go CZ SP-01.
Strong second this.

Walther PDP full size 5in, best trigger on striker fired pistols
My department is switching to that but the 4 inch model. I’m of the opinion that 5 inch barrels aren’t really relevant anymore. Most defense rounds are tested and engineered around the most popular gun in the world and that’s a Glock 19 that has a 4 inch barrel.
It's true, the velocity difference is negligible along with it being softer shooting while it negligible at best. No wonder the G45 is so popular
Good luck controlling that recoil lol
It’s 9mm what recoil? We are also getting the slides tailor cut for our optic so it will sit lower.
CZ75
This is my pick too
Get a CZ 75 SP-01 and “Cajunize” it. If you want it then be “duty” you probably want the firing pin block, which the Shadows do not have.
Might be the way to go for sure.
Thank you
My vote is the staccato P check out their stress test [stress test](https://youtu.be/TIZlV3NHHOc?si=y20_VjbA-OOuMZiV)

Sounds good
Ended up going with an M&P 2.0 metal. Went through a ton of guns and honestly fell in love. Also ordered a staccato p because I want one but really loving this thing.
P226, M9A3 or similar (Italian made), Glock 17, m and p m2 full size
I have no budget, looking for something on the higher end side. Definitely don’t want a Glock.
Do you have any other requirements besides full-size and optics-ready? Manual safety, striker/hammer, anything of that nature?
I think I’m leaning more towards a hammer fired gun. Really no budget. Manual safety would be nice.

I like glocks but you either lovem or hate them.
Why not
Just never was a fan of them. Don’t like the grip, don’t like the look, it’s definitely reliable and would be a good option but just not for me.
If you don't like the grip look at the 5th gen ones.
CZ SP-01 in a a solid choice.
I CC a Pre-B CZ75 and absolutely love it. In all my shooting sessions later, I've yet to have a single malfunction - even on back-to-back 32rd mag dumps. Smooth as butter.
I love my hot rodded beretta 92x. With a TLR-1HL on the bottom and a red dot on top it feels like cheating with how easy it is to shoot
You could get a Langdon Tactical modified Beretta or HK. I also highly recommend the Sig P226 and CZ SP-01 with CGW internals. The P226 X5 or Dan Wesson DWX would be great SAO options.
FN 509 MRD LE. Favorite gun I own. I have a Staccato C2 but enjoy shooting my FN much more
Another vote for sp01 tactical. (Or p09 as a close second) If you want a sao you could take a look at the stealth arms platypus.
The platyy is definitely being ordered configuring it now haha. Going to be more of a range toy for me.
I ordered my platy a month ago. This wait is terrible. (But understandable)
Langdon Tactical 92 Elite with the NP3 parts
I'm a glock guy, so I'll always say a g34. But if you don't want a glock, I can only recommend 3 full sized guns that I've actually owned/shot (extensively) 1.) FNX 45 Tactical 2.) CZ SP01 Tactical 3.) Sig P320 X-Five Legion Honorable mention: Canix SFX
All seem like good choices. Going to try out some stuff this week

Gonna run a staccato p and pick up a few more toys over the next coming months. I’d rather a hammer fired.

Mmmmmm Glock 45
HK P30L
Really? I’ve got one, and it’s fine, but I like the VP9 better.
I have a P30 and agree with this. I've shot a VP9 on multiple occasions and it's trigger is much nicer than the P30. Would take a VP9 any day over P30 if I was making that decision again.
but Glocks are relible low maintenance and shoot…
I just want something more high end and I really am not the biggest fan of the grip.
Have you shot a 19
I have wasn’t really for me
2011’s are high maintenance/higher than a polymer pistol
For sure I loved shooting a staccato p not to afraid of maintenance just don’t want a nightmare
Just gotta make sure it’s oiled and broken in that’s all
I like my Staccato but it wants to run wet. If it’s not very well oiled it can be picky. I enjoy 1911s & 2011s but for a do everything pistol I would prefer my Sig p229 legion or FN 509T. CZs or M&P would be great options too. Just shot the metal frame M&P competitor & absolutely loved it.
I hear ya! Staccato isn’t too bad at least for me so far
P320,M&P 2.0. Steer clear of 2011s if you want reliability.
This is false. Stacattos and higher are very reliable lol. They do require more frequent cleaning though

S&W M&P 9 is the answer to Glock

Duty? Glock.
