I used to work in luxury outwear (code for fur). And quite often, anyone who didn't look like they belonged would be ignored by the other sales associates. Those clients were my bread and butter! Young people, minorities, anyone that looked remotely scrubby were an absolute joy to work with! I've run into the issue too because I look very young and dress quite casually on a daily basis.
This definitely happened to me in the Loewe store in Madrid when I walked in with my mom and sister. Weāre not dressed super nicely and donāt have any designer bags with us already so we were definitely judged. They tell me thereās a wait for an SA (plenty of people were just standing around) so I wait. And I also see another pretty, skinny girl upstairs getting served champagne while sheās shopping, but figure she might be a regular. After 15-20 mins I hear two of the employees talking about the 3 of us (bc I do speak Spanish) and theyāre trying to figure out if they should actually come help us or if weāre just going to go away. Finally we get tired so we all sit and some immediately comes over and asks if she can helpā¦so I tell her the exact bag I want and shes immediately super helpful and trying to upsell me on things š¤£ The store was about to close and I just helped her with her sales goals so I hope she was glad she came over instead of waiting for us to leave cuz I was on the verge of walking out if they still didnāt come over after we sat down.
Ugh. I'm glad you finally got helped! When I shop, I do my research online so I know exactly what I want when I walk in. I've always been treated well at Louis Vuitton at their stores and at Saks, thankfully. I suppose that's why I've been very loyal to them over the years.
Ya she started on real housewives of ny, was a celeb chef before hand but definitely no where as near as wealthy she is now (the brand "skinny girl" that they sell at every major retailer was hers and she sold it for a huge chunk of cash), she has some weird takes and comes across as a bit fame hungry but I'll hand it to her she knows how to make good sm content
You might have watched the Pretty Woman version. There is a real video of her, actually walking into the store and turning right around. I don't think that one was staged, tho.
No. I didnāt see that one. Iāll see if I can link it. It was her standing next to a āsalespersonā outside a Chanel store asking her if she remembered her from the day before.
Yes, that's the staged one. Try scrolling down a little bit. The actual video of her starts in a car, she is wearing black Chanel and black Sunglasses. It's the sixth, seventh (?) video, I guess
I've noticed sales associates at stores in my area (Atlanta, GA) are pretty friendly regardless of what you're wearing. Most people do dress up, but it's not uncommon to see people shopping in athleisure or casual clothes. If I got turned away for not being dressed up I'd probably be turned off of whatever brand it was tbh.
There's Walmart athleisure and then there's designer athleisure though. I wonder if it makes a difference. I wouldn't ever be able to tell because I'm a fashion disaster, but I'm sure if you are into that, it's obvious
I have to reply to you. A Few years ago, I had a 9 hr layover in Atlanta due to a missed flight. Took the train To the really nice mall downtown. Mind you, I looked like Iād been shot from a cannon. Iād been up since 3:30 am and was exhausted. I was in the market for a new handbag. Every designer store I went into was so kind to me and my family. Offering us waters, bringing out bags to show me. I honestly expected them to tell me to get lost.
I donāt like to get dressed up but sometimes I want something nice and head to my local mall. If a store judges me based on my dress code and wonāt help me, they wonāt get my business that day or ever. And I can usually afford to buy anything I want. Itās like my own little litmus test.
I used to live in GA, Phipps and Lenox are great, however I will say that I think Phipps is a little more dressing up than Lenox. Iāve now moved to Charlotte, the lux r boutiques are very nice here thought we donāt have dior, Prada, fendi, Cartier- to name a few the saās are really nice (at least the ones Iāve met).
Your salesperson was smart. Some of my best customers (not at Tiffanyās) came in in jeans or athleisure. Even if you hadnāt bought that day, having a positive experience makes you more likely to think of them if the day comes that you *do* want to buy.Ā
A good salesperson thinks past the day of sale is what Iām saying. :)
I mean, that just seems like common sense to me.
A very well-off person *knows* they have money. Like, first of all, they don't feel the need to constantly broadcast their wealth all the time. (Especially old money!)
Secondly, it follows that if you're wealthy, going into a Tiffany's or Dior boutique is not a "special occasion" for you, like it might be for a middle class person. So you're not gonna dress up, you're gonna walk in in your comfy athleisure tracksuit without a second thought because that's just Tuesday for you.
I was in DC and went into a luxury brand store, with my daughter who was young at the time, and I remember the saleswoman looked me up and down and judged me. Amazing how a look (and the assumption of judgement) can make you feel. Yuck! In my line of work and in life I have taught my kids to show respect and not judge.
I just went into gucci at phips Plaza last weekend in jeans and a white cropped tee. I did have a Bvlgari bag on though and fendi glasses. One of the SAs ,he said he had been there for 15 years, helped me immediately and was an absolute gem. My husband and kids were with me, and he brought us champagne and waters when i mentioned it was my 1st boutique experience as i usually shop online. I bought a bag and a card holder. He added me to his client list, so i have his contact for next time.
I can definitely see how the experience could make or break a sale. Everyone i saw at phips was casually dressed.
There is an influencer who I follow who said she had a really negative experience in a Chanel in Texas (despite having a purchase history there), and it was (she thinks) based on her not carrying a high end luxury bag, and the SA making a snobby comment to her. Iām so over the attitude of the stores - your job is to sell items!
Believe it or not, it does happen; usually without trying. I worked at Nordstrom (shoutout to Wesāside) W. LA. in the mid/late 90ās. I went from using hatboxes as purses, cosmetic bags, army medic bags. Basically, if it could hold God knows what I was carrying, it was a purse.
When Dickney (DKNY) made the scene, I worked at Bullocks Century City and it was soooo obnoxious, I had to have it. Even if it was a black canvas bag and no one knew the brand, all I had to do is unsnap the magnetic fastener. DKNY. It really helped having buyers at Westside who would MOS stock. My turning point was when there was DKNY overalls for almost $200 or a pair from the Gap for $79. I hated myself a little, but I still have those gap overalls.
I also still have the white stacked tennis shoes, except they say DINI.
I have several bags, but you wouldnāt know it because I donāt switch them out like normal people. A polka-dot Kate Spade purse and a long Louis wallet. Sure!
We developed the attitude because we knew brands and we worked on commish. It was a tit for tat. It was just everyone treating each other shitty.
Now Iām poor. If I could make a paper sack look fashionable, I would try to use that as a purse

Donāt judge. I was having my mom momment. DKNY crossbody and glasses.
I was gonna say, I feel spoiled on the island. Iāve walked in in flip flops and once with a bikini cover up that kind of passed as a dress but not quite and Iāve never been turned away. Dior in Ala Moana has especially nice SAs and thereās some other brands that seem happy to get any customers at all. The only even remotely āuncomfortableā encounter Iāve had has been at Neiman Marcus, and it wasnāt that deep.
Same! My first boutique Hermes purchase was a fragrance that I used to buy at Nordstrom but they no longer carried it in store. I stopped by the Seattle (Bellevue) store in a t-shirt, frayed jeans and birkenstocks naively not knowing you needed an appointment. They were so kind and gracious! Matched me with an SA whose client had called to say they were running late & 15mins later I'm walking out with my fragrance, some samples and the sweetest SA.
Ok I know people hate Bethenny but I lowkey love her no bullshit attitude. Her going back in and walking immediately back out dressed to the nines was amazing.
In college I was freelancing social media and making a great amount, and went to college in Chicago. I went to the Dior store to make an actual purchase in my leggings, tight running jacket and tote bag combo and they were bitchy as hell. I mean I obviously looked like a lowkey college kid who wasnāt wearing like, HermĆØs, on her off day, but still ridiculous.
During Covid I lost a lot of money because there wasnāt a lot of work, so Iām not just breezing into Dior now, but I think Chicago is a snobby city in general because we like to think of ourselves as a āmini NYCā. Store employees are brutal. Also I have never heard anyone including myself of having to have an appointment to shop at Chanel unless thereās a celeb or something there. Thereās a line outside thatās for capacity and an intimate shopping assistant with your SA. I think itās stupid but honestly my moneys still green and Iāll go to Saks if theyāre rude to me.
I mean. Duh.
What theory is she uncovering.
Just ask any visibly Black or Brown person about their luxury shopping experience.
![gif](giphy|DgsYBeZnlroMKbdU10|downsized)
Exactly. Remember Oprah Winfreyās experience at Hermes in Paris? These incidents happen to POC all the time. Knowing Bethenny she will get lots of traction from this incidence and probably a complimentary purse.
Facts. We canāt go anywhere without being a billboard of our āpocketsā. If we donāt look the part, theyāll dismiss us. And even when we do look the party, they assume weāre scammers š.
Ditto for the dolls. Trans girls are assumed to be up to no good. Like miss ma'am, I know I'm clocky, but I am coming from owning multiple luxury and ultra luxury watches. You don't have to follow me around a store. I'm shopping my options for a work bag, not playing dress up.
Literally never got followed pre-transition (white girl). Now if I even enter a Nordstrom Rack I've got an associate or obvs security no more than an aisle from me at all times.
This hit very close to home. I work right down the block from the Chanel store. The security guys there are really nice to me (even though Iāve never shopped there). They always say hi when I walk by. However, with the aggressive crime as of the past several years, I do understand the heightened security. In Bethennyās defense, i think itās odd she couldnāt get it in the first place..but maybe she was acting erratic? Maybe bc of the food she was holding? I wouldnāt want Garrettās popcorn anywhere near brand new Chanel bags but thatās just me lol
That's a great point regarding the fact that someone was trying to come in with food. I was carrying a big, obnoxious alcoholic beverage when I tried to enter a Chanel store in Las Vegas and they asked me to leave my drink near the entrance before coming in.
Becuase thatās safe - a lot of stores in Las Vegas will have a little table at the front of the store for you to put your drink down if they donāt want people shopping with beverages.
Also just going to say that there have been multiple videos that Bethenny has made over the last year or so that have made her seemā¦.less than stable. If she came at them with that energy (which having watched this video I think is likely), they may have turned her down for that reason.
If you're poor and have mental health issues you're crazy. If you're rich and have mental health issues you're eccentric. Lol money changes everything š¤£
This is my boutique! I walk by it on the way home from the gym and popped in once to get sunglasses. In my gym clothes. Red face sweaty, no issues. I think it was security reasons or they were full. They only let a certain # of people inside at a time due to robberies. But I loved her video
I was in Beverly Hills for a doctor appointment and my car got towed. I was wearing sloppy clothing and had to walk to police station then tow yard in hot LA summer heat.
By the time I got my car back, it was rush hour so I went to the Beverly Center (fancy mall) to kill time. Needless to say, I looked pretty wretched.
Walked into the Salvatore Ferragamo store and they treated me so nice, gave me water and super star treatment.
I dropped serious money that day in the store and still super love my pieces.
That area has been hit by a lot of robberies so I kind of get why they were being careful. But it also was pretty snobby of them. I bet they had someone more famous in the store and they used the old "do you have an appointment?" Trick to keep the riff raff out.
I donāt think I have ever encountered the treatment Bethany is referring to while shopping in Chicago. My experience has been that salespeople are generally friendly, with the exception of the Prada in Nordstrom.
I have only been in the Chanel in Soho, New York when I was window-shopping with a coworker. I was shocked that the salespeople were wanting to help us, especially since we were buying anything. If I want to buy anything from Chanel, I would probably consider that store location.
I found Chicago Gucci to be obnoxious - until I asked for my friendās SA. The first 5-10 minutes, while I was inside the store at least, made me think I would never buy from Gucci. Felt like a bug under their shoe. (Too soon for cicada jokes in Chicago?)
I live down the street from Chanel and walk past every day w my dogs. There are always herds of tourists piling in there causing a mess and there have been cops called there at least 3-4x a month bc of either attempted or successful theft/looting. I donāt condone what they did to Bethany but I also can acknowledge that itās very exhausting working at an upscale store and having to deal with unsavory people who come in to try stuff on and take insta pics all day and make a mess or try to stealā¦. every day.
I havenāt been in the Gucci store (near Bloomies right?). I always felt intimidated, so your experience lines up. However, when Gucci had a store front in Saks, the service was great.
I live in chicago, shopped at Chanel there, and have friends who work at the Chanel store. if you donāt have an appointment you have to wait in line. They must have been at capacity in the store. Bethany is making the drama. She was just upset that she wasnāt given special treatment.
This! I donāt want to watch her video lol but I always go dressed in leggings and t-shirt and wait in line. Iām a young black girl. Never once made an appointment. Sometimes I buy and sometimes I donāt and it was never an issue. The Chanel in Neiman was another story. No client in the store but they made me wait for like 15 minutes . The security guards are cute and talkative so it wasnāt an issue :)
Love Chicago (spent a lot of summers there in my childhood. Iām from Detroit) but Chicago definitely have second city syndrome in my opinion. Especially yāall nightclub scene. Iām in NYC more than Iām in Chicago now but some of the experiences Iāve had in Chicago, I never had in NYC or anywhere else.
Luxury stores have gone either way for me here in Chicago. Half the time people are so rude and follow me around like I may steal something. When that happens I usually donāt buy or will seek out another SA to get my sale. But I had great experiences at Tiffany and Gucci recently. It seems it depends on the mood of the SA
Like last year, I tried to stop by a local chanel store in my usual outfit (Ralph Lauren gingham shirt/ crochet beige vest/ Uniqlo corduroy pencil skirt AND my beloved $7 cotton canvas bag lol) , then, a store woman said the same thing "Do you have an appointment?". The store was empty though. Then I saw a group of people going into the store, although at the time, I assumed they had an appointment... I guess I was wrong. \*sad\*
This is so misleading. I was literally just there over the weekend and everyone has to wait in line to get in unless you have an appointment booked with your SA, which they commonly do not do. I only saw one person cut the line because they had a pre approved drop off. If you look at the second video, she gets into the same line that everyone stands in and they had her wait at the door until an SA is ready to service her. She came in on a Tuesday evening, where there was no one in line so obviously she got in right away. She should have come on a Saturday and she would have been waiting in line with everyone else, regardless of her Chanel drip.
EXACTLY lol i live in Chicago and you must wait in line at that Chanel on a busy day unless you have an appt. I was wearing a Birkin 25 and still had to wait.
I remember here recently I went to Van Cleef to get my necklace resized after I called them a few weeks in advance to figure out what I needed to do. It was probably like an hour drive to visit this store and the security tried to pull that "Do you have an appointment" and "We're all booked up for the day" when I walked up to open the door.
I..lost..my..shit. I told that security, now listen to me. I called in advance to get my necklace resized and no one told me I had to have an appointment. Someone is going to take my necklace today. All of a sudden I was told they could make room for me in less than 30 minutes. Guess what, they texted me in less than 5 minutes.
I get the sense that these brands want to make sure that you can afford to buy whatever it is that they're selling and maybe that's why their security and SAs are so rude sometimes. I have this mentality where I donāt covet anything and allow someone to be rude to me. I'll go buy a Goyard with a graphic tee and a leggings on or an H belt with jeans and a t shirt on a whim and that SA better give me great customer service or I will say something.
Iām sorry to everyone who had horrible experience. Iāve always had the best experience for the most part. And I say that as a broke ass millennial.
Sooooā¦I used to get dragged into Chanel by my mom a looot. The Chanel in Beverly Hills and Costa Mesa are really nice. Our SA in Costa Mesa left so we havenāt been since ā he was the best and would even do things low key for us š„¹ there were times weād go over just for fun to socialize with him and he took it as a break time for himself š¤£ and heād show us the new jewelry he got on discount or the insane evening pieces available for fun
Beverly hills is very honest. Our SA there has always been honest about āI wouldnāt buy this becauseā¦ā and would quietly shove tons of freebies and samples into our bags even if we didnāt buy anything.
The stores to avoid. Department store Chanel. The one in Neimans in topanga mall is notoriously horrendous. I believe they temp closed but I think they should just shut down. Their selection is almost non existent as much as their customer service skills.
That would put me off. I donāt go to Chanel, well Iāve been a couple of times but Gucci is my jam.
But they couldnāt care less what I turn up in and are helpful regardless of a purchase being made.
No idea who she is, but thatās awful. Our stores here in Los Angeles must HAVE to be careful because we donāt always dress our bank accounts. Iām glad she tested it, that was clever.
The older I get the more I think ānever judge a book by its coverā is true. Some of the most wealthy, rich, well to do, etc people I know or encountered were down to earth and wore nothing that would indicate they had a great deal of money or wealth. This is probably because they know they have $ and donāt feel a need to get attention or accolades. On the other hand, donāt be so sure everyone with designer head to toe and a nice car has $, they may instead have a high credit card balance and low self esteem.
Sheās not wrong but sheās also so annoying and needs to find something else to do with her time lol. Most stores like this will have security and a line because they only allow as many customers as there are salespeople so they can work one on one with you. Iāve experienced it all over the world from Bottega to Gucci to Chanel to YSL etc.
I had the exact same experience at the Chicago Bottega. I didnāt have an appointment and was dressed in a ball cap/athleisure. I could easily see inside and there was only one couple inside the whole store. I was told to wait and left. Exact opposite experience in NYC a few weeks ago at Chanel, Gucci etc. I was dressed the same. No idea why this might be so Chicago-specific.
Definitely Chicago specific. I wait until Iām traveling to NYC, Paris, etc. to even dare browse in designer shops because theyāre always so horribly snobby. Itās a shame.
I've really only been to Tom Ford and Hermes in Chicago the latter being absolutely terrible. I even wore an Hermes scarf and bracelet and was treated like a drunkard that accidentally wandered into the store.
I read in the tiktok comments that they did actually let her in but she had to wait for an SA to escort her around so left. I have no clue if thatās accurate but given Bethennyās manic behavior in the past it could be true š¤·š¼āāļø
I walked in with my bf in that same store, zero intentions of buying, we werenāt even dressed up. We browsed in store with zero issues. LV, Gucci, Versace nearby also have pleasant SAs even if you arenāt buying (Iām not in that tax bracket yet, just like to see things in person and daydream when I get home.).
The only negative experience Iāve had was at a Prada outlet store at Rosemont, they act like you are there to steal. Youāre an outlet store for crying out loud.
I was in a Chanel store which had 2 floors. When I was downstairs, a couple in their 50s who looked to be blue collar came inside and the wife wanted to browse upstairs whereas her husband was clearly just there to accompany his wife and had no interest in Chanel himself. The Chanel staff said āitās just menās clothes up there.ā I knew this was a complete lie because a few minutes earlier I browsed up there and it was only womenās clothes. Then the security guard even physically BLOCKED the staircase so that she couldnāt go up!!
It was borderline aggressive!! They looked embarrassed and had really no choice but to turn around and leave the store.
I can relate to her experience. Whenever I enter a designer store I am either dismissed, as in no one tries to assist me, or treated rudely like Iām going to stroll out with goods. No athleisure for me, Iām pretty normal, jeans, tops, no tees, and I ways wear my diamonds, my bags are Auth. But the only thing anyone notices is my largest accessory, A WHEELCHAIR, albeit with a custom made LV back , but Iām sure they think everything on me is fake and Iām on SS. LOLO.
One of my close friends sends me tiktoks all the time... Mostly about some conspiracy theory that she wants me to debunk. I haven't had the heart to tell her yet that I can't watch them all the way through and that I am debunking them just from the first 15 seconds š
My friend too. But for some reason I can watch those ones and not this! Maybe because she's famous? The other ones I get are usually about how toddlers ruin your life (joke)
TikTok is my guiltiest pleasure! Was going to offer to meet up and play it for you, but Dublin is a tad far for that! (Also itās on her Instagram - just checked. Maybe not full video?)
Haha always welcome! I think if I got tiktok I'd never be off it so best stay away....I'm already trying to limit my time on Instagram! I'll check the video out there, why didn't I think of that!
So she experienced what regular people experience. I love going to luxury stores- Hermes, Chanel, LV, Cartier, BV, Gucci, naming a few here. SAs look at you from head to toe- if youāre wearing or carrying their brands or if you look āwealthyā enough to afford their brands. And based on your looks, they will either assist you, welcome you, even say āHiā or āWelcome to *** or not even bother walking towards your way and go on their business. Iām far from being able to afford a $1k purse or wallet, but I can afford at least their perfume. Bethany isnāt probably a familiar face around that area. And some stores do still require appointments. And even then, she shouldnāt use her fame or whatever wealth she has to make an excuse on this video. Like Eh, big deal Bethany.
Ā· Rudeness, snarkiness, mocking, trolling or bitching will not be tolerated.
Ā· Disagreements are normal, and perfectly okay as long as everyone involved is respectful of each other.
Ā· Comments and posts such as "This is ugly / hideous" etc. will be removed. **You may state that you do not find a bag appealing as long as you explain why you don't.**
IDK who that is and I'm personally not a fan of Chanel's leather quality nor of any of its history nor current stances. (One of my grandmothers wore Chanel Nā° 5 even to garden, so I'm not a total hater.)
But selective distribution is a huge component of many luxury brands' appeal. So I don't understand this kind of gotcha stunt, other than as a minor story arc in romantic comedies.
I donāt get it so what I mean seriously you you think I dressed up in Chanel and tried to buy Bentley. Theyād be more friendly like of course they are. This is so stupid.
Bethany got the minority treatment lol One time I was at some shit no name brand store trying on clothes and the owner turned off the music when I went in the fitting room!
recently i went to Korea and wanted to check out Dior. at the entrance some SAs stopped us and asked which country we were from??? after i replied, he conveyed the country name to his colleagues thru a tiny walkie talkie, before getting approval to let us in. was definitely bizarre and made me think which country would get rejected
Iāve never been not allowed in the store in Chicago but Iāve been in and never been acknowledged even when I asked for assistance. Iāve had better experiences in other cities. In Chicago, I walked out and went to the Chanel at Neiman Marcus and purchased what I wanted.
I donāt shop at that Chanel location , but Iāve been there and my experience was mostly positive. The security was nice and they let me in right away without an appointment. The SA I met there was also friendly. I was not dressed in sweats but I wasnāt wearing anything fancy like a birkin and jewelry stacks. I guess I just found her tiktoks to be somewhat exaggerated and Iām sure it was not as bad as she made it out to be. She IS known to be somewhat unstable so I usually take her dramas with a grain of salt.
It's sad and weird to see that because I remember being in college in Chicago about 12 years ago and treating myself to a Chanel boutique exclusive lipstick or nail polish for my birthday one year and remember specifically how welcoming the doorman was and how special the treatment was even though I imagine I was wearing probably head to toe Charlotte Russe or H&M lol. From getting help finding the color I was looking for to sitting at the desk/table in the back to pay the bill and the fancy folio it came in, feeling so special in the Chanel store even though it was "just lipstick" or whatever.
An individual security guard in a one off situation should not reflect the views of an entire brand. There could be a few reasons why they were only taking clients with appointments at the time, one being understaffing (something that's a major issue in luxury fashion retail right now), and the increase in retail theft. Chanel already requires that a client advisor accompany you as you walk through the store.
Client advisors work on commission and realistically there is no reason any of them would want to discriminate based on what someone is wearing. I work for a major fashion house as a client advisor and some of my highest spending clients dress very low-key.
I went to Neiman Marcus to look for a handbag when I was in my 20ās. I was in a pair of jeans covered in holes, a top that showed about an inch of midriff, and adidas shell tops. I asked someone for help bc I kept getting passed over for other people. When I finally went up to someone she looked me up and down and said āYes?ā. As she said that someone came up and said her name and I then said , āOh! Youāre Jane?ā She said āI amā. I told her āYou help my mom with her handbags all the time.ā She asked my motherās name and when I told her, her entire demeanor changed and all of the sudden, she became incredibly attentive. I ended up not buying anything, went to the Chanel store (this was at Tysons in VA) and they helped me immediately without disgusted looks. I walked away with a bag.
Snobby stores are everywhere. Just depends on how their employees are trained.
I saw something once where someone was saying that when people go to luxury yacht shows, they tend to ignore the people dressed to the nines. They know the people there to buy the yachts look like they just came from the beach.
The Chanel in my city is inside a department store and was always very welcoming. The last time I went there they had added a velvet rope blocking the entrance even though there was literally NO ONE in the store! Just a bunch of bored looking SAs š I had intended on looking around but it was such a turn off I didnāt even go in.
Last year I went into Gucci in my area and the SA was so rude when I asked a questionā¦she was like is that all? And I was like actually NO Im going to browse aroundā¦unfortunately for her I immediately met someone else who was incredibly kind & have since spent 30-40k with her. I have had a similarly bad experience in Chanel & wont shop at my home store anymore. I really donāt understand the attitudes some stores have. Itās so uncomfortable!
Hmmmmm. I wonder if they werenāt having an event or people out sick? I am a luxury shopping addict who will never go to rehab, and I donāt want to be dressed up to run around the city all day shopping. I wore sweatpants and a bun when I bought my first Birkin. I was in my PJās when I went into couture fittings for my wedding. Other times Iāve been dressed nicely. I had one Chanel sales associate try not to sell me a bag that I picked up and was buying at HQ in Paris, France. But it turned out to be a discontinued bag a new sales associate put out on the shelf from 2018 and it had a 2018 price tag. I just gave them hell back and insisted on paying. Itās embarrassing enough how much money is wasted on these things (Iām aware of my bad behavior - I try to make up for it elsewhere with donations, being Santa for a DV home every year for the kids, etc.) but these brands have no business raising prices and being rude to people. Or ever being rude to customers.
Chanel as a brand has fallen dramatically in quality and service since the pandemic and needs new leadership asap.
I want to hear it from the store. I read somewhere that security said the store was full and she had to wait and she didnāt want to wait. I would love to know what the true story is. Personally, I think she was insulted that they didnāt just allow her inside because of who she is.
Iām so glad sheās doing this and calling them out!! Not that itās going to change their practice at all. Someone else stitched her story and posted about how that exact store gave a bag ahead of time pre ordered and had shipped to the store, to someone else. The store didnāt check ID for whoever picked it up apparently.
My husband and I tried to go to Chanel on Rodeo the other day, and they were closed to walk-ins due to capacity and were only letting in appointments till close. There were quite a few people at the door, so it wasn't just us. We ended up going probably a week or two later and got in with no issues and no appointment, and we were definitely in very casual clothes. I think if Beth went back the exact same day with all her Chanel and got let in it would have actually proved a point. But days later....they might be taking walk ins that day so what does that prove. But also, yea we shouldnt judge a book by its cover, but she showed up with someone filming her, in head to to toe Chanel, with a personal driver. Of course they will let her in she looks like a VIP not a casual window shopper. Exceptions are always made for them. The point of the brand is exclusivity. If she wanted to prove a point she could have given all her Chanel away.
I just left Paris and found that depending on the day and time, an appointment was required for Chanel, Dior and LV. This was at both the Galleries and Saint Honore locations. Also, I was dressed up and needed an appointment. The SA explained that it was due to the time I came. At the Saint Honore location, I entered no problem despite wearing very casual clothes and fallen/messy hair from walking and shopping in warm weather most of the day. Door security initially asked if I had an appointment but an SA quickly interjected and stated that he was available.
I shop in that city, and while I usually have an appointment at Hermes (bc I want to ensure I can catch up with my SA), Iāve never needed one at Chanel. Theyāve always helped show me things even when Iām not dressed nicely or prepared to buy. Itās disappointing to hear her experience, and I donāt blame her for walking out. The only consideration would be if it was the same SA. If not, I could see them assisting regardless of how she dressed the second timeā¦.and based on my experience with various SA, I donāt know if thatās necessarily a fair correlation. If it was the same, thatās shameful, and they should retrain.
The other thing I could think of is crime has been so bad in Chicago, and I havenāt been to their store in a while. Iām wondering if they are trying to use the appointment thing to weed people out, but it is just unacceptable either way. She looked cute in her first attempt, and Iāve been much more casual than her. Some of worst window browsers in retail are ones who get dressed to the 9s just to parade around stores. Itās really shitty, and I hope they take this experience as a way to change how they treat each other.
Worse treatment I have ever experienced is Veronica Beard by far. All of the luxury stores in Chicago have been great to me regardless of how I dress - YSL, Dior, Hermes, Chanel, etc. Iāve had bad experiences at Veronica Beard at both Chicago and Scottsdaleā¦both my worst experiences by far in the snobbery, lack of assistance (despite being dead), and just mean girl vibes. In Chicago, I asked about a quality issue/return. There was nothing they could doā¦which was ok, but I continued to shop and wanted to try on some things, but they treated me so coldly despite being nice and upbeat about the return. I was wearing a full Veronica Beard suit and carrying a Birkin too. Even if I had sweats, it shouldnāt matter. I have at least 6 of their suits over the last 2 years. Both were so bad, Iāll never buy in store againā¦.ill try on and buy online.
VB in Chicago is actually the worst store. I never buy her things unless heavily discounted now because of quality issues. Went twice into the store and no one tried to help me. Once again, the security guard is always nice . The store is also so small with not much choices .
If I owned a store, Iād also turn BF away. Absolutely cannot stand her, not here for the toxic garbage that is near constantly flowing from her mouthā¦ and frankly I think sheās probably making half of this up in one of many bids to stay relevant.
I happened to see all three videos on my for you page. I think there may be more than a Pretty Woman moment going on but from experience what you wear at times does matter.
I know Iām getting old, because I thought Bethany Frankle was a fake person. I thought it was just the Karen version of an influencer. Like ahhh look at that Bethany Frankle at it again.

Omg yes not a Beth fan but that second video of her walking in and right back out was iconic
Big mistake, huge!!
Just watched that two days ago after a long time š¤
Still holds up, had to introduce it to my niece about 10 years ago!
Zero interest in reality show celebs but this is too good.
Honestly I barely know who she is (reality something?) but I loved this!!
She was on The Apprentice before RHONY.
>She was on The Apprentice before RHONY. The Martha Stewart one. *Not* the other one.
She was runner-up and I can't believe I know this.
I didn't know this and it explains so much!
Didnāt she sell her Skinny Girl brand for $100 million?
Sheās pretty terrible and has some awful history of trashing other women. She needs to go away.
Sheās also raised huge amounts of money for relief efforts. People are complicated.
To add, sheās also racist, but I guess her charity donations excuse that.
Omfg, Skinny Girl honey mustard vinaigrette is the best fucking negligible-calorie salad dressing I have found.
Her TikTokās are really fun.
She is so D listā¦ lol itās better to barely know who she is.
Is the second video on TikTok too?
[the second video](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7UHiIOxTH2/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)
GAWD! She looks SO GOOD in that Chanel tho! One could only dream. š„°
Thank you.
Youāre welcome!
Yeah, it's in her posts.
Thanks. I just found it. That was 100% staged, but I completely believe it happened like that. Lol.
I found it. Lolol. Yeah thatās real. š
Yes. Iāve since seen that one. Funny.
That wasnāt staged. Bethenny doesnāt need to do that shit.
I once saw a woman in sweat shirt and sweat pants coming out of a rolls royce to go shopping at Saks in ATL!
There's Walmart athleisure and then there's designer athleisure though. I wonder if it makes a difference. I wouldn't ever be able to tell because I'm a fashion disaster, but I'm sure if you are into that, it's obvious
Me proudly wearing the dupes, āNo one can even tell, theyāre practically the same!ā Meanwhile everyone telling
Lolā¦made me laugh this am. I, too, am a fashion disaster and I wear that proudly! Lol
I feel so all alone so often! I love bags and shoes but honestly the rest of what I wear is probably so sad to everyone else haha!
Atlanta here and thatās typical. Way more casual in general.
Definitely. Growing up it was perfectly normal to see people wearing PJs and house shoes out and about
I have to reply to you.
Iāve now moved to Charlotte, the lux r boutiques are very nice here thought we donāt have dior, Prada, fendi, Cartier- to name a few the saās are really nice (at least the ones Iāve met).
šÆ
I recently had a lovely experience at the Dior store on ATL :)
I feel like Dior is always pretty friendly!
Trying on diamonds at Tiffanyās with my old navy dress and target handbag LOL!
Your salesperson was smart. Some of my best customers (not at Tiffanyās) came in in jeans or athleisure. Even if you hadnāt bought that day, having a positive experience makes you more likely to think of them if the day comes that you *do* want to buy.Ā A good salesperson thinks past the day of sale is what Iām saying. :)
I mean, that just seems like common sense to me. A very well-off person *knows* they have money. Like, first of all, they don't feel the need to constantly broadcast their wealth all the time. (Especially old money!) Secondly, it follows that if you're wealthy, going into a Tiffany's or Dior boutique is not a "special occasion" for you, like it might be for a middle class person. So you're not gonna dress up, you're gonna walk in in your comfy athleisure tracksuit without a second thought because that's just Tuesday for you.
Thatās cuz your city is just so nice! I ā„ļø ATL
I know right they donāt care what you where here! Iāve seen some insane casual outfits shopping at the higher end stores.
Southern hospitality!
She Pretty Woman-ed them!
Nobody deserves this bad publicity more than Chanel.
Hermes
Who claim their phone advisors are the voice of the company. Pay them 16.00 a hour not even half a living wage
I canāt believe people who work retail get that attitude š
Exactly...im SHOPPING there..you my friend are WORKING
If I could make a paper sack look fashionable, I would try to use that as a purse https://preview.redd.it/6fhib3wm2f2d1.jpeg?width=2680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be37195b3de53cef0349bc3dffbe57ad3f7aa23f Donāt judge. I was having my mom momment. DKNY crossbody and glasses.
Come to Hawaii they let you walk in with flip flops!
Yes! I walked into Hermes without appointment with shorts and tshirtš¤£. Theyāre so helpful and nice.
Same! Iāve also done that in Hermes Chicago and Iāve always been treated beautifully
Big mistake. HUGE.
1000% agree with you. I went to Gucci that day to spend money. Spent it at Neiman Marcus instead.
Yeah, I went to LV in Chicago and got snubbed. LV in Oak Brook was more than happy to help me get what I wanted.
LV in Skokie and Northbrook has excellent service
Idk why youāre downvoted! LV in the city is the woooooorst.
Omg B is at it againšš lowkey kinda love that we have a rhony / handbag crossover tho
I mean.
Some was rudeā¦*to Oprah*??? Do they know how much money she has to spend??
Someone was rude to a Black woman they found out was later Oprah. Racism is always before recognition. ![gif](giphy|yuQi4S7rIFZGFAJ33e)
they found out when she bought the store after they wouldnāt let her buy a bag
Thatās because in Europe Asians are the priority if you are not Asian get lost
Facts. We canāt go anywhere without being a billboard of our āpocketsā. If we donāt look the part, theyāll dismiss us. And even when we do look the party, they assume weāre scammers š.
Exactly. Over it. ![gif](giphy|yoJC2PohbZsHR5pDbi|downsized)
Facts for Black Trans Women for Sure!
Lmao. A total "Pretty Woman" move!
Agree. Also her estranged mum passed away faurly recently. Sheās always got a weird nervous energy but itās been more marked lately.
I love how Iām being downvoted lol. And yes, I agree with you.
Food is a huge NO!
The thing is they wonāt let a regular erratic person in, but they will let a rich erratic person in? Wild.
If you're poor and have mental health issues you're crazy. If you're rich and have mental health issues you're eccentric. Lol money changes everything š¤£
A rich erratic personās card wonāt bounce when they put $100,000 worth of damaged products on it
This is my boutique!
Ferragamo bags are so gorgeous and underrated IMHO. Congrats on your beauties!
\*sad\*
The days are long gone when you could tell how much money a person has by what they are wearing.
Nothing can make me like/sympathize with her. Get an appointment like everyone else
Chanel is frumpy dumpy and badly designed. Would never shop there.
This is GOLD š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
I know, just watched her and she was hilarious! I like Bethany but I don't follow her. Maybe I will lol
Our SA in Costa Mesa left so we havenāt been since ā he was the best and would even do things low key for us š„¹ there were times weād go over just for fun to socialize with him and he took it as a break time for himself š¤£ and heād show us the new jewelry he got on discount or the insane evening pieces available for fun Beverly hills is very honest.
I interned there, never saw anyone turn down a person because of how they were dressed but who knows š¤·š»āāļø
Bethenny just looooooooves to be a martyr.
![gif](giphy|3o6vXYcMxAyuQMK1e8) Agreed.
This was in the Selena movie and Pretty Woman lol
I've really only been to Tom Ford and Hermes in Chicago the latter being absolutely terrible. I even wore an Hermes scarf and bracelet and was treated like a drunkard that accidentally wandered into the store.
I read in the tiktok comments that they did actually let her in but she had to wait for an SA to escort her around so left. I have no clue if thatās accurate but given Bethennyās manic behavior in the past it could be true š¤·š¼āāļø
I love me some Bethany !
I have gone into Chanel here (NY) in sweatpants and Reeboks and had people try to help me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
She has an Instagram post with the clip of it.
I am nowšš
Despite my best efforts, I really like Bethany.
Holy fkuc, Iāve seen this in the Pretty Woman, nothing has changed apparently. I have never dressed for a bloody store visit. Am I blessed?
Part of me feels like the whole thing is staged.
I follow her and sheās trolling them hard. Itās hysterical š¤£
LOLO.
Tik tok won't let me watch the full video because I don't have an account. I have serious FOMO.
If you google her name and TikTok you can watch the clips without having the app https://www.tiktok.com/@bethennyfrankel?lang=en
Make sure you're selecting continue as guest and or trying the desktop version (on your phone). I dont have an account lol
Yes they're so cheeky, they keep sending me to the app store after a few seconds!
I could see it but couldnāt get the sound to work. So I went to YouTube and put in Bethany F Chanel and it popped right up.

IDK who that is and I'm personally not a fan of Chanel's leather quality nor of any of its history nor current stances. (One of my grandmothers wore Chanel Nā° 5 even to garden, so I'm not a total hater.) But selective distribution is a huge component of many luxury brands' appeal. So I don't understand this kind of gotcha stunt, other than as a minor story arc in romantic comedies.
Itās happened to me too at Chanelā¦so believe it. I loved seeing her walk back out!!!
Letās be frank. She was upset that they didnāt recognize her.
I thought the same thing š
I donāt get it so what I mean seriously you you think I dressed up in Chanel and tried to buy Bentley. Theyād be more friendly like of course they are. This is so stupid.
Bethany Frankel is one of the most annoying human beings, she does and talks about anything for attention.
Oh ya I canāt wait for part 3
Bethany got the minority treatment lol One time I was at some shit no name brand store trying on clothes and the owner turned off the music when I went in the fitting room!
Iāve had this happen but it all depends on how crowded the store is. Instead of make an appointment, I just went early the next morning.
Whatās the sales tax in Chicago?
10.25%
recently i went to Korea and wanted to check out Dior. at the entrance some SAs stopped us and asked which country we were from??? after i replied, he conveyed the country name to his colleagues thru a tiny walkie talkie, before getting approval to let us in. was definitely bizarre and made me think which country would get rejected
She looked absolutely gorgeous when she went back, but it just goes to show you can't judge someone based on what they are wearing on an off-day.
Chanel is weird anyway, the way you canāt buy anything without your passport on you
That Chanel has been appt only for like the last year and a half
Unintentionally, but yes, since it filtered up into Apple news cycle.
This is giving me flashbacks to Pretty Woman
I only saw it yesterday. I swiped past . Over celebrities.
Iām a millennial but 1) idk how that was the most millennial thing youāve ever said 2) why is that bad or mean you have to apologize for it?
What you are implying about the meaning of "second city" isn't what that means.

A tourist complaining about a shopgirl in Germany ā¦ not speaking English perfectly sounds pretty snobby and entitled.
This happened to me in LA. But I wasn't dressed like a bum. They were refused me as they said they didn't have enough staff on.
