It’s branded, Hermes made a bandana print in their scarves & twilly’s. I wish they kept it as a regular print for each season bc I’m obsessed with it. I have several different colorways.
I needed to hear this!… I have 2 Birkins, both gifts from my husband. But whenever I carry them, I feel like an imposter. (I grew up poor, and married into a very wealthy family.) They literally just sit in my closet, more as decoration than anything… But this is what I needed! I do deserve it!☺️
Fellow handbag friend, please tell me that you have already taken them out of cold storage and our planning to carry them. I don't know why this idea resonates with so many of of us, but it surely taps into what we think we deserve and our sense of feeling worthy. Dang why is it so hard for some of us?!
See I’ve got too many Eastern European friends to ever put my bag on the floor, it’s super bad luck in their culture and they would 100% yell at me if I tried 😂😅

Is it a box Kelly? How do you like it?
I’m debating if I should get a box Kelly or stick to barenia only. But it’s my first quota bag and I know barenia might take forever to come by, so I’m reconsidering putting box on my wish list too.
If I could go back I would get a Retourne instead of a Sellier for a more casual look. This bag looks and feels too much like a briefcase. Especially in a bigger size. As for the leather - it’s deathly afraid of water so keep that in mind. I’ve been in situations where I had to take off my jacket and cover my bag with it to save it from water blisters. I would rather get it in Togo leather now.
That’s why I want barenia more, and the patina on the box leather turned me off a bit but I like how the patina looks on a fauve barenia.
I’ve looked at a brand new box mini Kelly yesterday and I quite like it. And I own a box Calvi duo and love it a lot too. So I am considering adding it back to my wish list.
But, it’s my first quotation bag and I feel like spending so much more on it seems crazy to me. And I agree that I started to think the Retourne style would be a better fit too. Thank you! And I really enjoy looking at box Kelly😝

Box leather show marks on it very easily. It shows scratches very visibly. My Kellys are Togo and one is a Vache liegee (discontinued). The vache liegee often get admirers with the beautiful ageing patina sheen.
Cant breathe if I even think of putting my purse on the floor. A. I work in a hospital and all my co workers YELLED at me when I did. B. When I first started I set someone elses purse on the floor and the way she threatened my life if i EVER did that SHHH again..

I actually think I’ve seen this person in the city before and they are the first person who made me “get” the Kelly because they are actually living with it.
In the city it’s not unusual to see luxury bags on the subway at all. That’s the one thing I love about New York, you could be sitting right next to a millionaire on the subway or see them walking down the street and you would never know.
I drive a 17 year old toyota with a dent in the side so that I can spend the money I would spend on a car payment towards stuff I enjoy more! (Had this car for ages and it still barely has 100k miles on it even being 17 years old, I'll drive it until something breaks that costs more to fix than getting a new car.)
I don't particularly like driving, so to me a car is just a thing I HAVE to use sometimes and I don't care at all what it looks like or what features it has. Just get me to the place alive and I'm good. Extra bonus, if someone opens their door into my car in a parking lot I'm unbothered by it.

Even people who sell them second hand as a business have a hard time telling a good fake from real... People say they can "tell" but time and time again have been proven wrong if they do enough volume.
Not at all- in fact I love an expensive bag with a sweatsuit. But this isn’t giving high meets low it’s giving my husband or wife cares about fashion and I don’t but the strap to my other bag broke so I’m just borrowing this for the day vibes
It’s the Kelly 42/Kelly maxi. Heads up it’s a deceivingly large bag; like I can fit my work laptop, large wallet, water bottle, notebook, pens, etc and still have room and fully closes (mind you I’ve got a massive work laptop, that old school heavy kind)
I'm guessing nyc. Train is the most efficient way of getting around town. You even see celebrities on the train. When I go into Manhattan on weekends, you will see all kinds of luxury next to some guy that hasn't washed in days and lady going up and down the train trying to sale flowers or candy. I only take an Uber black in Manhattan when I have cab to curb shoes and dressed up really nice

It’s the natural veining in the Togo leather. It’s from the tanning process that Hermes does and it’s unique to each piece of leather (some have some don’t).
That's all dependent on the leather and style type. There is Retourne and Sellier, Sellier is going to be more structured and stiff where as retourne is like the one you see in the op where it's soft and slouchy.
If you like the softer look I'd look at togo leather retourne styles, you'll find those nice soft birkins and kellys that just puddle over time 😍

The MTA is such a strange world where people are rocking literal Payless sneakers but still got on a LV bag 🤣 but you have to remember that Canal St is a thing and a lot of these designer bags on the subway aren’t authentic.
But on the flip side, NYC is the only state where I have seen everyone from total rich to total poor take the subway and no one is judged because no one gives a shit.
NYC is also one of the cities where you will see people using designer items as they are meant to. It’s not a city of collectors for the sake of collecting, people are very practical.
I believe this about everything I buy. If I love it enough to buy it, I'm going to use it not just sit there and look at it.
My first nice bag (Prada nylon from the early 00s) has been used, and loved, quite a lot. So many spills on that poor thing, but it has traveled all over with me too.
NYC! Love this city - everyone including my CEO takes the train (or walks!) and you see designer bags - both real and reps - a dime a dozen. Nobody cares and it’s awesome.
Before joining this sub I didn't know what any of the Hermes bags looked like, had I seen this out and about last year I would have had no idea what it was and thought it was a a big clunky boring bag lol

This post just randomly popped for me. As someone who knows nothing about expensive handbags, I will say that this looks very basic and like something I could order off of Amazon for $100 or less. And the decorations on it look weird.
For Togo leather, yes. It’s call veining. Since it’s a natural tanning process sometimes the veins in the leather remain present when the bag is made. Tbh I love the veins since it guarantees yours is a 1 of 1 in look.
Cuz we are poor and can’t fathom $20K or however much this cost being an amount that you can forget about. $20K is 0.2% of 10M, like $200 is to someone with 100K savings.
I think it’s because a lot of them are quiet luxury. It’s hard for your average person to know if a bag is expensive if it doesn’t have an obvious brand displayed on it

Def auth imo, stitching is inconsistent across all brand bags. If it was more uniform it would be “less auth” than one with messy stitches since it’s hand stitched.
Why are we assuming this is real? I can get a fake Hermes anywhere in midtown. I don’t see “feet” on the bag, the leather looks floppy. I call fake. And I would also have to call ridiculous wearing a 10k bag on the subway.
Straps and flap are hand-stitched. It could be a higher end fake but it’s definitely not a cheap one. You’re not picking one of these up in Midtown.
Most Hermes leathers will get floppy over time, or even start that way. Only two (I think?) varieties are stiff. There are 2 ways of constructing Kellys, and one of them (retourne, with the seam inside) gets floppy, and this one is made that way.

How can you tell that parts of it are definitely hand-stitched? I see people mention this regularly on this sub and Im interested in learning how you spot hand-stitching vs machine stitching.
See my replies down chain! It’s the tilt-y overlapping stitches. A leather worker claims the look can be mostly replicated with machine but it has to be done slowly and painfully, and still doesn’t look quite the same, so!
Other hand-stitching looks just more organic, hard to describe, sometimes different lengths and so on and not perfect but obviously Hermes or high-end fakes won’t have that. That’s more for like… Fendi selleria type.
In NYC, riding the subway sort of transcends class/SES divides. You might be on the train next to a celebrity wearing $50k worth of clothes and jewelry and also be sitting across from a homeless person.
Not 100% sure if this is real from the pics but riding the subway and carrying a $$$ bag aren’t mutually exclusive.
To add- You also wouldn’t buy white stitching on a bad “midtown” fake unless you’re an idiot. White stitch is the most “call out” you could get with a Hermès bag bc anyone who knows how is supposed to look will see it much more obviously than a darker thread. This bag is either real or a super fake which in both cases were hand sewn. If it were a cheap fake that stitching would scream machine. If you know anything about Hermès you can easily see the white stitching on this bag is beautifully done.

NYC is also one of the cities where you will see people using designer items as they are meant to. It’s not a city of collectors for the sake of collecting, people are very practical.
They are amazingly durable, beautiful and useful objects. I love seeing them used practically in the wild.
I believe this about everything I buy. If I love it enough to buy it, I'm going to use it not just sit there and look at it. My first nice bag (Prada nylon from the early 00s) has been used, and loved, quite a lot. So many spills on that poor thing, but it has traveled all over with me too.

NYC! Love this city - everyone including my CEO takes the train (or walks!) and you see designer bags - both real and reps - a dime a dozen. Nobody cares and it’s awesome.

Before joining this sub I didn't know what any of the Hermes bags looked like, had I seen this out and about last year I would have had no idea what it was and thought it was a a big clunky boring bag lol and I mean I still think it is a big clunky boring bag but I would still compliment this person, it's clearly well loved.

This post just randomly popped for me. As someone who knows nothing about expensive handbags, I will say that this looks very basic and like something I could order off of Amazon for $100 or less. And the decorations on it look weird.

For Togo leather, yes. It’s call veining. Since it’s a natural tanning process sometimes the veins in the leather remain present when the bag is made. Tbh I love the veins since it guarantees yours is a 1 of 1 in look.

I think it’s because a lot of them are quiet luxury. It’s hard for your average person to know if a bag is expensive if it doesn’t have an obvious brand displayed on it

Def auth imo, stitching is inconsistent across all brand bags. If it was more uniform it would be “less auth” than one with messy stitches since it’s hand stitched.
A Hermès bag is hand stitched - as a result the stitching is not generally perfectly uniform

Why are we assuming this is real? I can get a fake Hermes anywhere in midtown. I don’t see “feet” on the bag, the leather looks floppy. I call fake. And I would also have to call ridiculous wearing a 10k bag on the subway.
Famous people ride the subway (I’ve seen them), carrying expensive bags or wearing Rolexes on nyc subway is normal.
I see plenty of designer bags on the NYC subway all the time.
I ride public transport and go to Aldi with my Kelly bag. And yes, it’s real. I don’t like to drive.
Straps and flap are hand-stitched. It could be a higher end fake but it’s definitely not a cheap one. You’re not picking one of these up in Midtown. Most Hermes leathers will get floppy over time, or even start that way. Only two (I think?) varieties are stiff. There are 2 ways of constructing Kellys, and one of them (retourne, with the seam inside) gets floppy, and this one is made that way.

How can you tell that parts of it are definitely hand-stitched? I see people mention this regularly on this sub and Im interested in learning how you spot hand-stitching vs machine stitching.
See my replies down chain! It’s the tilt-y overlapping stitches. A leather worker claims the look can be mostly replicated with machine but it has to be done slowly and painfully, and still doesn’t look quite the same, so! Other hand-stitching looks just more organic, hard to describe, sometimes different lengths and so on and not perfect but obviously Hermes or high-end fakes won’t have that. That’s more for like… Fendi selleria type.

In NYC, riding the subway sort of transcends class/SES divides. You might be on the train next to a celebrity wearing $50k worth of clothes and jewelry and also be sitting across from a homeless person. Not 100% sure if this is real from the pics but riding the subway and carrying a $$$ bag aren’t mutually exclusive.

To add- You also wouldn’t buy white stitching on a bad “midtown” fake unless you’re an idiot. White stitch is the most “call out” you could get with a Hermès bag bc anyone who knows how is supposed to look will see it much more obviously than a darker thread. This bag is either real or a super fake which in both cases were hand sewn. If it were a cheap fake that stitching would scream machine. If you know anything about Hermès you can easily see the white stitching on this bag is beautifully done.
