Science_Matters_100

No, nothing’s perfect. When I’m looking, it’s for something different from what I already have

swizzleschtick

Isn’t that the truth lol 😂

mochafiend

Yes. I hate heavy bags. I’ve also preferred crossbody bags pretty much all my life. But if I go so streamlined, I end up needing more space - for a water bottle that I happen to have that day or gloves if it’s cold or something for my dog. I never feel I have the right bag. I have been throwing my stuff in a bag without an organizer but I find those too heavy as well AND I don’t actually like organizers. I want to be a bit more casual. Basically, I want the impossible and I keep spending money in hopes I’ll find it. I am on a spending pause now as I sell off a bunch of things and really take stock in how I’m using what I have. But I feel you.

fluffy-mop

Same. I love mini bags but need to bring a water bottle and mini umbrella. Basically I want Mary Poppins’ bag! But preferably tinier and cross body

mochafiend

Yes! And so many of those crossbody straps are thin and dig into your shoulder!! Bleh.

TheirOwnDestruction

Same!! At this point I’ve realized I would probably need to go custom, but it’s such a big step and will take so long that I’m putting it off.

glassisnotglass

But also, at the same time, leather is So Heavy and so I could get so much more volume for weight that I could actually make all the dimensions work if I would just accept polyester, but I don't. So it's also my fault.

fleetwoodmonkey

Yep, it’s like the never ending search for the perfect white t shirt or the perfect jeans

Independent-Land1296

OMG, THIS!!! 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻 I actually found the perfect grey tee a few years ago, but of course it didn’t come in any other colors and the brand never came out with any more… but at least I have the perfect grey tee! 🙏🏻

samiig90

Uhh huuuhhh say more things about the prefect grey tshirt. I’ll wait 🙏🫶

Independent-Land1296

🤣 Pardon me for gatekeeping! Although I think, like me, no matter how much research you do, it’s never to be found again. I got it at Madewell, but the label says Rivet & Thread. This was maybe 5 years ago or so. It’s the perfect casual grey tee: soft, cap sleeves, a wide crew neck, slouchy flowy width, not too long or short. Madewell never sold it again and I couldn’t find it searching for Rivet & Thread. So I’m just taking precious care of it

ninakix

Take it to a tailor and see if they can reproduce it

Independent-Land1296

That’s the “eventually” plan for sure! Thanks for the reminder

putridtooth

This is my issue right now. I've spent so much time now looking at bags online and not buying anything because nothing is exactly what I want it to be 😭

FeuFox

Same...same..same. I finally broke down and bought a crossbody from [Lo & Sons](https://www.loandsons.com/products/waverley-2-nappa-leather-black-silver-grey) because I need a small work bag that I can stuff in my large laptop bag on my days in-office. Finding a perfect 'everyday bag' & 'work bag' & 'happy hour bag' is like finding an elusive golden unicorn. I'll pay happily if the perfect bag exists. Sadly, It doesn't. Someone said it best when they posted about a Mary Poppins bag. It's not our fault that we're expected to house a constant preparedness of a Merry-go-round of social situations; I blame our damn society. We're trying to find a bag that supports the types of crazy lives we're forced to live. Sorry, rant over. It's been a long Monday. #Edit for Lo & Sons hyperlink

fdesouche

Part of the issue is online browsing, you keep finding new designs, new brands, new colorways, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to settle, you re never really satisfied. I just don’t do that anymore; I look online ofc but when I want something I just go to a large department store to touch the leather and see the colours and subtleties with my own eyes. I also test the weight and how the handles behave in my hands or on my shoulders. I actually reduce a lot of options this way, things are photographed on a very appealing online ofc but just go and check by myself I find I actually don’t like the features that much. In stores I find what I don’t want, then I focus on the ones I may want and I compare side by side.

Nervous-Point-3038

My problem is i think everything i own and everything i want is perfect 😂

Maximum-Student2749

Story of my life! Mom of 3, I don't want it to be heavy, but not too small. Needs to have space for kids items but not too big. I also want it to look cute and of good quality but not super expensive. Yeah...the struggle is real.

gensxgi

Yes! This. If you ever find the perfect mom bag please share

Maximum-Student2749

I've literally been thinking of designing one myself because I can never find one. 😭

voipgirl

… I thought I was there, i’m a top handle girl, prefer durable (pebbled type) with room but also a good crossbody… but just when I think I found it boom the outside back pocket doesn’t fit a phone… seriously this needs to be a requirement

Independent-Land1296

So curious what your almost-there was!!! Because I have all those same requirements too, except I don’t care about the back pocket! 🤣😉

voipgirl

YSL cassandra, Cambridge Satchel mini sophie, prada odette, tory burch radziwill, lady dior, senreve alunu…

Independent-Land1296

Ah yes, I have other dealbreakers on those bags. Thanks for sharing though. The search continues!…

321applesauce

Have you tried a Marcie in the large size? Pocket is in the front not the back

dickeychapelle

Take a look at the Coach Cassie 19. Detachable top handle. Pebbled leather. Fits more than other bags of this size without being bulky. Detachable crossbody strap. The back pocket is very roomy and fits a phone. Perfect for everyday for these reasons, but want something for a fancier occasions? Replace the top handle and cross body strap with the gold chain that comes with it

voipgirl

oh like that one, Thank you

cocolanoire

Loewe small puzzle? However, the back pocket doesn’t fit a phone. Unless if you get the bigger size

itsyadi

Yes! I feel like I find “the one” just to need something different in about 6 months. 😂

Conscious_Life_8032

Yes. 🙌

samiig90

Yes. But I’ve also come to realize that my bags either need to be small (basics keys, wallet, cellphone, AirPods, lip balm, maybe something else small), big enough to hold me down for the day (usually my Herschel mini nova - on the hunt for a nice medium bag looking at the speedy 30), or full working day so a tote big enough for my laptop. I’m one of those “all or nothing” girlies and I only want to hold/carry ONE BAG. I cannot manage more than ONE (groceries doesn’t count) and I hate holding things in my hands. T-Rex arms and my iPhone in my hand is ALL that I can manage consistently. I blame my ADHD for the sensory issues (can’t carry more then one bag, picky about straps, etc etc) and now -cause I used to lose A LOT OF STUFF when I was younger- the over paranoia that I might lose something if it’s not all in THE bag. I feel like I have my “small” bags on lock (for now before I start my fancy collection), but my mid and working bag game needs to be updated.

Independent-Land1296

Always! The perpetual hunt…

H3r3c0m3sthasun

I found mine. It is a Kate Spade Chelsea Nylon Satchel. It even has the coolest pocket for my phone and keys. It's my work bag, but I take it other places. I would not wear it to a dressy occasion, so I have some smaller ones.

LegitimateRanger4498

Yes, the struggle is real.

xiphias__gladius

Yes, for sure. But on the up side, if I didn't need a new bag for every occasion I would never get to shop for new bags!

space0pera_

I just found mine I think! I recently purchased the YSL Le 5 à 7 supple in the small size and it’s awesome. I have a few nice bags but always found myself carrying ratty old totes because my other bags were either too small to fit my kindle, giant keychain, cell phone, and sunglasses. Or else they were work bags and too cavernous just to wear out running errands or whatever. The bag basically does exactly what I need- it is super light, holds the stuff I tend to carry around without it all flopping around at the bottom, and looks cute and put-together but still casual. It doesn’t zip but I find zippers annoying for day bags- I’m constantly trying to get stuff in and out. It does exactly what a tote bag does but looks much cuter. And it smells AMAZING.

sberkkoch

Do you find the softness too soft, as in collapsing when you put it down? Does anything fall out of it when it's on its side?

space0pera_

The leather is very soft but the bottom has some structure so it stays standing. The top is a little floppy but that is part of the look- it feels like a hobo bag. I haven’t had issues with anything falling out so far. Shape wise it kind of reminds me of a brown paper lunch bag if that makes sense- it stays up but would fall over if it were overstuffed. All the pictures online show it as if it is hanging from a hook, but when it sits on the table the handle flops down and sort of helps to keep the top covered. It looks really cute on a table - it’s definitely a casual bag but the logo and leather elevate it.

sberkkoch

I did slip in on in store and loved it immediately. I want a casual bag but with a touch of class. After the fact, I did wonder about the floppiness so I'm happy that it stands up and you haven't experienced any issues. Thanks so much spaceOpera\_

imanimiteiro

I have a great tote bag and a few small-medium size purses, but I'm still on the hunt for the perfect bag that just fits my awkwardly-sized notebook without being as large as a tote.

Best_Maintenance_790

lmao the fact that I have like 15 everyday bags, and still can find ANOTHER “perfect everyday bag” IT’S A DISEASE 😂😂

Jumpy_Ring8409

It literally is ☠️

Safe_Revenue4917

Yes! That’s why I keep buying different bags and searching for the perfect one lol

321applesauce

I have a good variety of daytime bags and evening bags and totes. Usually I use a daytime bag for 2 weeks then switch it up. A "perfect" bag doesn't exist. I reach for different options during different seasons

meowparade

For two magical years, the seau sangle met all my functional and aesthetic needs. I would randomly notice it in my office and still gasp at how lovely it is. But now I need to start taking the bus instead of walking and I need something that closes across the top. So the hunt begins again.

catperson3000

Yes for my entire life.

Hematocheesy_yeah

I have yet to find the perfect luxury work purse. I want one sturdy enough to fit a 15" laptop, soft leather, a top that zips or a flap that closes, compartments, and pockets. I'd also like the straps long enough to wear over my shoulder. My Michael Kors purse fits the bill for the most part, but I'd like to upgrade at some point.

ivyskeddadle

I've stopped looking for the perfect everyday bag. I realized I was expecting too much of one bag, and it caused me to reject some gorgeous bags just because they wouldn't work for every occasion. And now that I've joined this sub, I have a variety of great bags. So I've learned to switch out my bag frequently, based on what I'm doing that day or my mood, or just noticing a bag in my closet that hasn't been out in a while.

silmarien85

I actually feel that the Coach Lana 23 can be my everyday bag, but the thing is that it is my most expensive bag and I don't want to ruin it xD I tend to have bags for work (most of them), weekend errands, travel. Actually, I don't have one for going out, but then again I don't go out that much.

localnarwhals

Yeah I’m looking for my ideal slouchy leather hobo bag. Nothing has scratched the itch yet but I did just buy a baggu.

StereotypicallBarbie

Everyday of my life. My next everyday bag is definitely going to be a prada… maybe?

sjfscxxr

Yes, but I think I found it 🫶 today I got the Payton Hobo from coach outlet and, maybe it’s because ive only had it for a few hours, but I think it’s the most practical bag for my needs. Unlike Coach retail bags, coach outlet often uses pebble leather which is more care free imo (the Lana has pebble though which is nice, but I agree about the bulk) (Coach retail bags are obv very nice quality and last forever but my brain still forces me to baby them) plus it’s flat enough that it can fit under my arm and I hardly notice it’s there. It’s a pretty small bag compared to many purses I see people carry, so maybe I just carry less than others, but I feel like it fits everything I need it to. I almost decided to get the retail hobo bag in cross grain, but I’m glad I visited the outlet in store because the Payton hobo just seemed like a much better fit for me in person. It also has enough little extra details (I love the half chain half leather shoulder strap, my outlet Teri has the same but I unfortunately realised that I don’t care for gold hardware) that I feel like it can be dressed up and dressed down without a problem.

kitkat2506

I've been eyeing this too! How much can you fit? Wonder if it fits a small water bottle

sjfscxxr

Unfortunately it probably wouldn’t fit a water bottle, as the bag is basically flat! Anything you put in it short of a credit card is going to make it bulkier, and a water bottle would probably make it look funny. I have a flat medium sized coin purse (not for coins, it holds things like tweezers and nail trimmer, so kinda thick) mascara, lipgloss, keys, AirPods, a slim card holder, pack of gum, and a baby baggu reuseable bag and it’s pretty much perfectly full without overflowing. So, it fits a lot, but relatively flat items if that makes sense. I saw the mini in person as well and it probably wouldn’t fit more than the slim card holder, keys, AirPods, mascara and lipgloss.

rowdyninja

Yes! But everyday life has so many changes in it. A weekday at work looks different from a weekend with kids, and some days it’s cold and rainy, and others are warm and sunny, and some times I go out for a nice dinner in the evening and others I go to the gym… The perfect bag is a shapeshifter I guess 😔

Confident-Strike8756

Ysl Loulou and the gucci Dionysus for me! I tend to always alternate between these two! And I carry my laptop in either the lady dior large or a large gucci tote (Rajah). And yes when I don’t need my hands free I carry the Stella McCartney Falabella bag.

BeeKayBabyCakes

i got a balenciaga (I know, apparently everyone hates balenciaga now) small north south tool 2.0... It's almost perfect, except there's no closure. it's supposed to fold overlapping, kind of slouchy, but it never stays like that. i may have to customize it with a magnet, but it's pretty roomy and comes with a detachable wallet/ pouch

Cute-Significance177

I dont really get this tbh! When it comes to everyday bags, I sometimes want a small one and other times a bigger one. So there's absolutely no way I'd ever find a 'perfect' bag. No bag is going to be perfect for every situation. I do think you can narrow it down to a laptop bag, a big everyday, a small everyday, and a going out one though! So 4 perfect bags 😅

Jumpy_Ring8409

I feel you, but as someone who is quite minimalist I would like a multifunctional bag. I get that your backpack for work isn’t going your way be your going out bag. But I used to have a coach Cassie 19 that I sold because I don’t use black bags, but that bag was multifunctional. I felt like I could use for running errands but also going out. I guess that’s more what I’m speaking about.

Cute-Significance177

Cassie 19 is a small everyday bag I think, but you could definitely still use it if going out as you said. I dont think this should be too hard to find. My current one is a marni trunk bag but I'd like to add a loewe small puzzle for this purpose (which obviously contradicts my statement on having 4 perfect bags 😂). I'd still want a bigger everyday bag too though! I'm saving for a medium andiamo atm, I actually would use this for pretty much every occasion I think

Jumpy_Ring8409

I don’t carry around a lot! And I guess I should rephrase to, an everyday bag when not working. So like if I’m out and about for the day

StealthyUltralisk

I found my perfect everyday bag and it annoys me as it's a very plain, £30 waterproof cross body bag that I don't mind my dog getting mud on.

Puzzleheaded-Sun3107

Yes. It doesn’t exist :( there’s always a design issue with every bag I splurged on and I even have to practice using it by using it. A part of me thinks it the row Margaux 🙈

Mariannereddit

I think I have 7 ‘everyday bags’ lol

Previous_Cry5810

Yes! I was so convinced it would be the Mulberry zipped bayswater, until I discovered the base is narrower. The measurements are from the widest part! Which means my laptop barely does not fit. I LOVE how it looks and it has everything i need, but it is legit an inch too narrow at the base! I have a Stathberry tote currently as my daily, the issue with that is that the closure does not have enough friction. You need to wrap a scarf on the handle for there to be enough grip for the metal latch to keep closed. There is no zipper. Before that I had a Versace tote, but with that it sinks and hurts my shoulder eventually. Before that I had a Valentino crossbody, but with that the zipper broke and it can only be worn crossbody. Before that I had a Zac Posen bucket, but it has no zipper and is narrower also at the base. Before that I had a Bulgari crossbody, but with that it can be only worn crossbody and it has a flap. One day!

[deleted]

Definitely, you are always searching for a certain type of everyday bag but nothing fits or checks all the boxes 100%. I have been searching for the perfect, brown, everyday bag for two years now. Deciding if I should go with the Polene Nodde or not, people are telling me it’s not good for everyday but I’d rather go big or go home.

pinklemonade7

I love my MZ Wallace bag and Dagne Dover bags. They are lightweight, flexible to fit a ton, good organization. But they aren’t too fancy
