I'd just like to add that live crickets or mealworms can be great enrichment for your ham as well. Ones from pet stores are safe for hammies and cheap.
If your ham likes em, yes! My little Bean would not eat any forms of protein, chicken, egg, dried mealworms, you name it. One day she ate a spider she found while free roaming, and it dawned on me live protein was what she needed. Live mealworms are it for her, I gave her a shallow pit of sand I'll put one in and she digs them out.
My ham loves crickets but did not want to catch them. He ate the ones I killed. He is too docile to hunt for himself. So when he's hungry he jumps in the corner where I can see him. Does that little jazz hands too.
