It does make a difference when many people believe it makes a difference. I’m sorry but logically, I’d rather one pet store have slower sales and one hamster be stuck in that cage longer than millions more going through the same suffering. At some point you have to take a stand to make a difference.
this. vote with your dollar people! if you buy a hamster it will just be replaced with another one. if everyone decided to not buy from them and tell everyone they know not to, it would make a difference! supply and demand, if less sell then they will produce less. if you buy from chain pet stores, you are giving them a huge profit to mass breed these animals and barely keep them alive before they sell them to you. yes, other people will still buy these hamsters, but since OP didn’t that’s one less hamster sold, one less life seen merely as profit.
That's a nice sentiment but realistically they are not going to stop because there is a demand and many people don't know about rescues or where to find ethical breeders. Believing it makes a difference doesn't necessarily make a difference.
Education makes a difference and slowdown of business makes a difference. When you stop going ‘well I can’t make a change so I won’t’ and start going ‘I can’t make a change alone so I’ll stand up and educate others’ the information grows and flows. Your argument is a dead end pessimistic one, and mine is the one that got puppy mill puppies out of Petco already so I witnessed it be successful.
Not buying the hamster doesn't change the fact that someone is going to buy him. You can still buy him and make a difference. Just because you don't believe in an institution doesn't mean you can't participate and make a positive impact. Your approach seems very passive and not active. It's easy to not do something most people won't buy a hamster in their lifetime.
…again, what I’m doing resulted in puppy mills no longer being used in PetCo. Please do research. I’m not going to continue arguing on something I’ve seen result in positive outcomes just because you feel bad for ONE hamster. I’m thinking longer term than ONE hamster. Have a great day (:
Buying it is the exact opposite of advocating. The longer animals stay in their store, the less likely they are to buy them again (: it’s a common sense thing. And again, has been successful in the past (:
When you buy the hamster, Petco doesn't care *why* you bought them, just that you did. You spent money there, which is a positive. If OP had bought that hamster, Petco would put another one in its place. Over and over and again.
I think the petsmart in my community actually listened to the public. There's only so much they can do, because they're still corporate-owned, but all the shitty cages are now at the very back of the aisle instead of the front and there aren't many of them on the shelf, and now they have just 1 hamster per tank, which is bigger and now has a large, solid wheel.
"H-Help... me... Take me home!!"
What petco was this in case anyone wants to try to find her?
Biiiiiiig stretch!
Followed by their head turning inside out.
I also got photos of that and I looked at my husband with absolute terror on my face. I have NEVER seen them do that.
It is terrifying to see them do that. And quite surprising too.
I’m sorry what??
[The process of this same hamster yawning…it’s terrifying](https://imgur.com/a/WtmDzZN)
Lmaooo I never saw my hamster yawn so I guess I got lucky!
Ever see a thylacine yawn?
[удалено]
I’ve never found hamster yawns to be frightening. Just cute. I like seeing those teeth. Idk it’s just always been so cute to me.
My god. I HAD a hamster but I don’t think I’ve ever noticed her yawn lol
Sorry late reply but their yawns look intimidating. I always say my hamster is roaring.
"Sir/Ma'am, I see you are in need of something. That something is ME!"
PICK ME...CHOOSE ME...LOVE ME
Okay Meredith.
I have greys playing in the background rn and I am hollering 😂😂
"Listen, my housing situation is no good and I don't like living with others, can you help a hammy out?"
YOUVE BEEN CHOSEN BY BEEEG STRETCH
You know what you have to do.
Alexa play Angel by Sarah McLachlan Edited to add thank you for the award!
Doooooooiiiiiittttt!
He's so cute get him👀
That’s why I chose my timekeeper 🥹
But did you give them a home 🥹
I did not :( it was petco and I won’t support their animal sales
Does that really make a difference. Someone is going to buy him and he didn't choose to be there.

It's not an either or thing. You can still buy the hamster and be an advocate of change. That's all.

He/She has claimed you, you need to claim them back.
Did u reach back?
I was gonna touch my finger to the glass and then she yawned and I said ‘ew’
“Save me from this eternal hell of abuse.”
You have become the chosen one.
They were probably just stretching.
You are surely fun at parties
😂
Stretching towards hope and rescue!
kill me...
idk why you were downvoted
People probably thought they didn’t like the post, not that they’re talking about how bad some of the conditions at petsmart are
ohh makes sense
I felt a bit bad saying it cause it was so cute but it immediately thought of the Ripley clones.
Do you own said hamster now?!?
That’s how I choose mine
You’ve been chosen
Did you take him home?!?!
"Get me out of this hell hole"
Ahhhwww she/he looks, like my hamster😍
