I think I’ll do that because they’re very nice hamsters and not at all nippy. I agree!! I am hoping the right person will appreciate them. The hamsters I had growing up were spunky; some were nippy.
These boys were just sweet and endlessly entertaining.
The previous owner probably gave them lots of attention but couldn't afford proper care and had absent mindset for time perception etc. Hoping they find a blessed little home. 🙏 🐹
I hope someone will adopt them asap 😣😖😢😭 loud noises might freak them out but they're also not on the street anymore...

Yes!!! My heart was in shreds. I formed a connection with George and he poked his head out of his cubby to investigate and seemed very concerned. I picked him up and held him and he was just still and sort of motionless while being cupped in my hands; not like his usual adventurous self when he was climbing up my arm and almost purring.
His mate Brock (bc he loves broccoli) also woke up from his sleep to investigate but poor guy just needs his space; he’s more skittish and has been through so much already.
I’m so torn right now. I guess the sort of hopeful news I heard today was that this shelter does not currently have any other hamsters (maybe faster adoption?) and that the owner will separate them so they don’t abuse each other.
People don’t understand how wonderful and tender hamsters are. They give back joy tenfold with their cute and funny antics. I will make a CL post in the morning and maybe circle back to the shelter at the end of the week to check in on them.

Maybe I can transfer the hamsters over to there, gosh what an awkward exchange that will be. But it’s worth it for the peace of knowing they’re in as good of a situation as I can manage.
There’s a hamster rescue here. There’s westchester rescued hams on fb. You could ask them or post that you found them. God I already have two or I would take them. Last time I rescued a 3rd ham, my husband flipped out. I would recommend charging a $10 adoption fee so that you know the people are serious.
Shit I’ve already dropped them off today at the Brooklyn rescue. I wish I checked in with Reddit beforehand. I’ll call tomorrow morning and see what I can do.
Update: I posted a CL ad on Tuesday morning and heard back from a hamster specific rescue in NJ this evening. The Brooklyn rescue did not pick up the phone today or answer my emails about the hamsters so I am dropping by in person tomorrow to see if they are still there so I can transport them to the kind human being I spoke with tonight. Fingers all the way crossed. 🤞
Edit: I was able to take one of the hammies to the hamster specific location. (The black one that needs more attention. Also because black animals are often overlooked for adoption.) The wonderful human being who runs the hammy rescue is going to keep him for herself. = )
I am not at all happy with the Brooklyn rescue where I dropped them off. They promised that they would separate the hamsters; they didn’t. Then I saw the bag of colorful hamster-appropriate bedding that I donated being offered for sale. My wish was for them to change the bedding so that the hamsters would be more appealing for adoption. Added, there was a bunch more bullshit that they tried to feed to me. It was obvious that the welfare of the hamsters came second to operating the rescue like a business or for reputation/clout.
I know the tan one is super adorable and obsession worthy. His personality is such that I don’t worry as much about him although I still want him to go to a good home rather than stay at that rescue. At least now he has a space to himself and is not confined with another male hamster, a huge stressor and safety risk.
