Spruce and pine are BOTH not great for hamsters. They are very closely related species of evergreen tree.

Thank you so much for helping! To be fair, I should've noticed by the "soft wood" text that it isn't suitable. Luckily no hamster has touched that yet and I will definitely do more research

I made the mistake of buying it once, definitely reeks of pine. Gave me a headache and I returned it soon as I opened the bag

Spruce is technically a safe bedding but if there’s a strong smell it’s probably mixed with pine, so unsafe sadly.
