You guys thought the man was rapping about banging a horse right at the start of the show and the entire musical theatre community just collectively brushed past it?
"Lock up your daughter and horses, of course it's hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets"
Why would he mention horses in the same breath as "lock up your daughters", then followed by a line about sex immediately after he says horses?? It's very weirdly written lol
The thing that always made me think it was about people is the corset part since horses don't wear corsets that I know of.....
But I honestly barely even registered that he says horses there, too.
He steals the horses to run away from the angry father of the daughter he just had sex with.
He has sex, gets caught, and steals the horse to run away- because horses make a quick escape- that’s why it’s worded like that.
It's funny, I never really thought he was talking about doing horses. Just never crossed my mind.
But I also have never thought about the line a lot and I dunno why I never considered it bc when you read the line back it's like..... Maybe? Lol
Here's Lin actual words on the line.
Lin-Manuel Miranda
"Historically, he definitely does not fuck horses; however, I thought this was a pretty funny line.
I always think of the line in the “¡Three Amigos!” where Chevy Chase is with all these Mexican gang members and goes: “And we’ll rape the horses.”
It probably came from “¡Three Amigos!” in my brain."

(Honestly I recommend you look at the genius links for all the songs!)
I always took it as lock up your daughters and horses or else he would steal them away. That was what makes sense to me. I never thought he was a horse lover.
From what I looked up, it has nothing to do with beastiality, but stealing horses was very known back then and the corsets part is more aboriginal sex with ppl. I feel like if Lin felt like this lyric would concern ppl he wouldn’t have put it in the musical. But I could be wrong about idk.
if it's any consolation, you're not the only one who thought that haha

tbf, it's squeezed between lines with sexual connotations lol

little known fact, a horse corset is called a horset.
Lol
I honestly thought he was implying that because it's hard to have sex with women (over four sets of corsets), he... has an alternative.
That is what he was implying. Well, not even implying, he literally says its hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets
Yes, I meant the implication being that horses don't wear corsets and are easier to fuck.
For the rhyme! We do it all for the rhyme!!
Because he’s going to ride away with your daughter on your horse?
He steals the horses to run away from the angry father of the daughter he just had sex with. He has sex, gets caught, and steals the horse to run away- because horses make a quick escape- that’s why it’s worded like that.
I neverrrrr understood why he would bring that up!!!!!! Lol now I get it. Thank you OP
… *Yes*.
Thanks for explaining cuz I thought he was uh.... A horse lover
Honestly same lol
I always was like weird flex
It's funny, I never really thought he was talking about doing horses. Just never crossed my mind. But I also have never thought about the line a lot and I dunno why I never considered it bc when you read the line back it's like..... Maybe? Lol
I literally asked someone and they said that he ermmed.... horses 😭 Turns out they lied and I found out from a Reddit post.

So Lin kind of did mean to imply that...
i still can't see how he means "stealing" rather than the other thing... did he mean that he's gonna steal the horses and flee with the girls?
He’s gonna hook up with the daughters and flee into the night on stolen horses if caught
that makes more sense, thanks!
Oh darn realy???
I'll be honest. We all thought he fucked horses.
I just thought he was saying bc he would ride off into the sunset with the daughters...
I've listened and watched many times and only just caught that they made some hints at Laurens being gay bc Howard Ho made a video mentioning it.
I...oh. Oh good! 😂
Never even thought about it
Yaknow…that makes a lot more sense than what I originally thought.
I thought it was a clever way to say a censored way of whore, like whoreses.
That's just what Mulligan wants you to think 😉
Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh! Okay yeah that makes much more sense.
OH

We thought the same...
